1. Allow yourself the shitty first draft. Seriously, once you stop trying to self-edit, you're better able to get something down on the page. Give yourself permission to write something, anything. WOrry about editing later.
2. When editing, read it out loud to yourself. I've found more badly written phrases/typos this way than anything else 3. Start in the middle. Know what's hard to write? Introductions. So start in the middle with your main ideas. If you're struggling to start, give yourself a prompt like "why should someone care about my topic?" THat's usually the spirit of your thesis/argument Even if this is just a meme from the spambots, I will always offer suggestions on how to write better. |
