PGS S46 Game 44: Anchorage vs Halifax

Snake-bitten Player of the Night

Oliver Kovacs gets the snake-bitten player of the night award for this game with his game leading total of 5 shots. He also amassed a total of 5 shots that were either deflected or blocked. Kovacs must have been visibly frustrated after this performance as he clearly felt like he could beat McKorsky in this game. Amassing 25% of Anchorage's total shot number Kovacs surely could have done more to help his team in this game. It wasn't a totally worthless game from Kovacs though, as he amassed a couple of hits and played some PK time. Anchorage will need this man to keep his shot totals up, but hopefully he can sort his finishing out.

Brick Wall Award

It would be embarrassing to award either goalie the brick wall award tonight as they both performed well below their expectations. Therefore we will award Kalevi Karhunen with the award for this game. Nearly leading the Armada in penalty kill time on ice, he managed to block five of Halifax's shots to help out his struggling goaltender. It's not a complete stretch to say maybe Anchorage should've started Karhunen in net tonight instead of Peter Larson. Not only was he a brick wall for the Armada he also pitched in offensively with a goal. If either of the goaltenders in this game had played to their abilities it wouldn't have been a contest.

Unexpected Impact Player

Perry Morgan lead Halifax's offense on a night where they didn't really need him or expect him to. Morgan is known as a bit more of a defensive defenseman who pitches in offensively with crisp breakout passes. He is not known for his scoring. So when he potted two goals for the Raiders, including the game tying goal, coach Ed Balls was ecstatic with the effort. "If Perry can do this every game I think we could go undefeated for the rest of the season" - Ed Balls. We don't expect Morgan to keep this going, hence the unexpected impact player award, but if he does the Raiders could be even more of a force going forward.
