Hot Potato Trophy - SHL S48 Awards Ceremony

Welcome one and all to the first ever Hot Potato Trophy awards show! I am your host, Slap McShotty. This is a recorded event, not live.

The SHL Hot Potato has had quite a journey during season 48, with the original trophy running off with @~~Mike Izzy~~ and then settling down with a family. This called for a replacement Hot Potato to be issued, but caused no significant interruptions to the event.

Overall, the Hot Potato possessors have had their ups and downs, and these individual awards are to recognize those who performed well and poorly while in possession. The individual awards are as follows:

Fried and Crispy - Most time with the Hot Potato
The Unburnt - Least time with the Hot Potato
Potato Lover - Most Hot Potato possessions
Sack of Potatoes - Most hits taken with the Hot Potato per 20 minutes possession time (more than 1 total hit taken)
Potato Protector - Most shots blocked with the Hot Potato per 20 minutes possession time (more than 1 total shot blocked)
Potato Shoots - Most shots on goal with the Hot Potato per 20 minutes possession time (more than 1 total shot on goal)
Protato - Most points with the Hot Potato per 20 minutes possession time (more than 1 total point)
Forgedible - Worst performance with the Hot Potato (0 shots blocked, 0 shots on goal, and 0 points for longest possession time)

This award goes to the player who was stuck with the Hot Potato for the longest, whether because they couldn't get rid of it or they horded it away from everyone else.

My, my, the Calgary Dragons really had a presence in the individual awards this season. And it's also no surprise to see Mike Izzy in there with his Hot Potato involvement this season.

Next, the Hot Potato was a detriment (or benefit) to the teams of the possessor, so we must recognize some team awards. The team awards are as follows:

Putting Down Roots - Most total team time with the Hot Potato
Potato Famine - Least total team time with the Hot Potato (at least 1 possession)
Potatoverload - Most total team Hot Potato possessions

Best and worst team possessor performance were not awarded as they directly correlated with the P/20 and Worst performance individual awards. In the future, entire team performance will be tracked while one of their players has the Hot Potato to determine best and worst performing teams, and may even keep track of team performance while the possessor is on ice.

And now, on to the final event: the Hot Potato Trophy! This is presented to the "lucky" individual who ends the regular season with the Hot Potato in possession. There was a last-game scramble between Tampa Bay and Minnesota to get rid of the Hot Potato, but someone had to possess it in the end.

This award goes to the last player to have the Hot Potato in the regular season, who was (un)fortunate enough to have the Potato thrust upon them just as the regular season "music" stopped playing.

A big congratulations to the winner of the Hot Potato trophy!

The Hot Potato will hopefully continue in the next season, and, as mentioned before, with more tracking and possibly more award categories to compete for. Also, an SMJHL-based Hot Potato may be added to the fold. The future of the Hot Potato trophy is looking bright and more advanced.
