Analysis Anchorage Defensemen

Statistically, neither of these defensemen really helped the team offensively with a total of 0 points and that showed on the ice with the team struggles for Anchorage. Wang played 18 minutes which is a bit lower than his average but not completely abnormal. Interesting note here is the minutes being played by these two rookies is on par with some of their veteran teammates. Wang took one shot, had a single hit and blocked two of Detroit’s attempts. Wang also took a high sticking penalty this game, a lazy penalty for this level of play. He needs to be in more control over his stick on the ice. Michaud seems to have been more of a hindrance to his teams performance than an asset tonight, being on the ice for two goals allowed out of four. Defensively with him being the type of player he is, this needs to be much better. His ice time is on par to where it has typically been during the season. He also was on the PK tonight a role that we see him taking a larger role in as the season progresses. He did have two blocked shots, but that did not help the team as much as he likely would have hoped.

Analysis of Detroit Defensemen

Magoon really did not play a role in the game tonight. Coming off the bench as a PK specialist while another man was in the box was the only ice time he saw tonight. Detroit is likely keeping him held behind some of their stronger defensemen and that appeared to work tonight. We will see how this goes during the remainder of the season.

Overall Analysis
Since Anchorage was not really in the game and Magoon didn’t really play, it’s tough to call which teams rookies on the blue line performed better. Anchorage might have this on virtue of them actually getting ice time, however they didn’t play that large of a positive role in the team tonight.
