5. This time the games are hosted in Minnesota. How would players spend their time in Twin Cities?
7. What would be your starting lineup, 3 forwards, 2 defencemen and a goalie for one of the SMJHL conferences?

5. Ah yes, the Twin Cities. I would spend most of my time in the Mall of America, only the biggest mall in the history of the world. Whether it's getting all my shopping done at store such as Air Traffic Toys or Paper Source or even Perfumania, and then grabbing a quick bite at the Piada Italian Street Food place, only to go have some fun at the Sea Life Aquarium or Fly Over America and then watching a cool flick somewhere because I am sure there is a movie theatre. You could easily spend the whole weekend at the Mall of America and miss the All-Star Game.

(110 Words - 2 TPE)

7. If I had to pick a starting lineup for the one of the SMJHL Conference, it would probably be completely wrong because I do not pay attention to that league, but here we go:

The Southern Conference:

F - Walbilly Koala - CAROLINA
Koala put up an insane amount of points and kind of came out of nowhere, easily winning the breakout player of the year award. They would be on my all-star starting line up for sure.

F - Spaceman Spiff - OTTAWA
Cool name, even cooler stat line. 40 goals, 41 assists, they can do it all in the offensive zone and that is important I think.

F - May O'Nayse - MAINE
Another cool name, another 50 goal player. What do they put in the water down south? I just picked three random players.

D - Arvinder Singh - NEVADA
A rookie defenseman with those kind of offensive numbers? An easy all-star, but an easier starting line up pick.

D - Ty Justice - MAINE
Hasn't this player been in the SMJHL for 15 seasons? Had a great breakout season and would be an excellent pick for this spot.

G - Mark Andrew Flower - DETROIT
First season as a starting goaltender in Detroit, and let's be honest, their numbers didn't jump off the page as superstar quality, but with a name like that, is a future hall of famer, I'm sure.

4. Starting goalies – 162 words, 3 TPE
For the Northern Conference, Katharina Rosenthal would be my choice. Rosenthal had 31 wins versus 15 losses throughout the regular season. She had a league best four shutouts, a feat not easy to accomplish in a high scoring league like the SMJHL. Rosenthal’s GAA was an impressive 3.02 in the regular season, and she carried a respectable .899 SV% in 47 total games played. Rosenthal also posted a good GSAA, at 10.06 – not the highest in the league, but competitive among top goaltenders.
In the Southern Conference, rookie Meowlnir Kittenson put up some great numbers over 38 games. While their record was not top-tier, with 18 wins and 15 losses, they put up quality stats anchored by an impressive 20.76 Goals Saved Above Average, leading all goalies in Season 79. Kittenson also lead all top goalies with a .908 SV%. Doing this in their rookie season while competing for minutes with fellow successful rookie goaltender DarthDeavin makes these accomplishments even more impressive.

6. Non-hockey skill – 118 words, 2 TPE
Tip Toasty started practicing transcendental meditation in order to create out of body experiences while not on the ice. Toasty would like to always be on the ice and in the play, and by practicing The Gateway Method of transcendental meditation, he hopes to be able to influence games through energy manipulation while not out on a shift. The trouble, Toasty believes, will not be getting out of his body, but instead getting back in by the time the coach puts his line in the game mid-play. This process is long, and requires a lot of practice, so the goal is to be able to leave his body by the time he is called up to the SHL.

8. Teammate – 118 1 TPE
When asked about his teammate Puddles O’Duckling making the all-star game as one of the last four players in, Tip Toasty expressed excitement for his linemate. “Puddles deserves this nod as much as anyone in that game. I’d love to be an all-star, but Puddles had better numbers, there’s no arguing with that.” O’Duckling had 73 points, including 43 assists compared to Toasty’s 66 points on 34 goals. “He’s a playmaker and a goal scorer, and he’s one of our top PK players. If we both get top line minutes next season, I think we’ll both be near the top of the league in scoring. I’m looking forward to joining Puddles in the ASG next season,” said Toasty.

1. Milestones here!

9. I think if you go with your brain it's Team West, if you go with your heart it's Team East. We all like to see good league-wide representation at the All Star game, it makes the fans happy and it rewards the players that battled all season on rebuilding or struggling teams. There's no downside. That being said it does mean that the teams will technically skew "worse" if they aren't just loading up on the best teams top players. While that's the optimized choice, it's not in the spirit of the All Star Game. So I'm pleased with the composition of Team East, I'm excited to see everyone going and I think they're going to have a lot of fun-- however if you made me bet on who's going to win the game I have to give it to the more top heavy Team West. Another great group of guys, but they simply have the advantage when it comes to pick distribution. So it goes. (166)

11. To put it simply, I think the SHL needs to figure out how they're going to get a foothold in the Southern Hemisphere. Being a simulated league we don't have the travel and weather contraints of a meat space hockey league, so why are we not exploring more global options? We should be having exhibition games in Lima and courting expansion franchises from Maseru. Anywhere we can gin up interest in the sport would be good for the league, and the entire bottom half of the globe is essentially unserved right now! Perhaps it would be good for marketing if, similar to how the NHL plays a game or two in Europe each season, we started sending teams to Ghana or Uruguay. Get some new fans, find some new talent, grow our beautiful simulated game! (135)

3. On West you could build D pairs out of teammates or rivals as both Los Angels and San Francisco sends 2 defencemen. Which one you’d choose and for why?

Perhaps in any case, I would definitely switch it up between periods to see if there could be any chemistry there (if there isn't any 'hard feelings' for the rivalry that brews between them).  Toasty would definitely get the nod with his teammate Sydney Shaw in the first period as starting pair to set the tone, with Elena Maximova and Willow Soderberg-Snooks on their own pairing right behind them. Then in the second and third periods they could swap to all play with each other.  I'm certain by the third period that most players, if not all players, got on the scoresheet.

4. Which of the goalies you would have starting for each team?

This could be a no brainer, or a strategic choice.  Would you want to start the best goalies like Justin Time and Denebor Milasch to set the tone for the rest of the game, or start Rebecca Montagne and Grzegorz Brzeczyszczykiewicz first to get some clutch goaltending at the end of the game once the team chemistries have developed?  Either way, all all-star goaltenders will get tested by some very capable SHL superstars like Tony Soprano and Chris Valentine, there are too many to list, which is why they're at this game.  It could be safely be assumed that no goaltending strategy would be the winning one!  Everyone is smarter at the end of the game.

7. What would be your starting lineup, 3 forwards, 2 defencemen and a goalie for one of the SMJHL conferences?

I'll be picking for the Southern Conference.  At center, from Maine, Doug Weight, and one would guess I would select his Timbermates, Valtteri Pulkkinen and May O'Naise, but I'm going to select some complementary players.  From Detroit and on his left wing, Theo Kane, and his right winger, from Ottawa, Easton Schaffer.  Some playmaking from Weight, sniping from Kane, and all-around player like Schaffer.

The players should absolutely check out the Mall of America where they can do some shopping, check out the aquarium, and ride some of the rides in the amusement park there. They should also make sure to find and try out a Jucy Lucy from Matt's Bar or the 5-8 Club. Outside of that, they could get tours of US Bank Stadium or Target Field, check out the Sculpture Garden, or simply tour the city. There are plenty of museums to check out as well as a zoo. There are plenty of other places to eat as well as some excellent local breweries that the players can enjoy on their time off. They can also check out the river walk as a warm up before their games.

2. East has interesting mix of top scoring players who finished on top 15 on points. How would you mix these players up to create best 2 forward lines?
3. On West you could build D pairs out of teammates or rivals as both Los Angels and San Fransisco sends 2 defencemen. Which one you’d choose and for why?

2. It’s difficult to come up with lines for the east all star team since its basically half people who play center normally – even Billy Herrington is a center in the latest index loaded though he’s announced onto this roster as a winger. So, if I were to be coach for the all-stars it would come down to who is willing, able, and experienced to play out of position along with whichever centers we choose to keep on the dot. I think a strong spine is very important for the team so I would set up three lines around three strong centers, In this case I would pick Tony Soprano, Max Carnage, and the physically imposing Gnabe Dabson on the third line (because I don’t trust him as much to get up and down the wings). I’d make sure to split up the top playmaking wings as well, probably going with Beauregard on Tony’s line and Jiggle E. Puff on Max’s line, which just leaves the opposite winger to be chosen for each line and for this I would choose to keep familiar players together, dropping Sawschuk and Herrington into the mix. Therefore my two East all-star lines would be Sawschuk-Soprano-Beauregard and Puff-Carnage-Herrington. These should pose a big threat against the west all-stars, which will be needed in order to counter the goaltending advantage they have in this game.

3. I feel like I get a similar question often and I usually give the same answer: it depends. Do we want to win this game, or are we trying to have more fun and give fans a look at some fantasyland combinations? In this case we do have some flexibility to do both without switching pairs mid-game, because both Maximova and Shaw represent France internationally, bringing some familiarity to a pairing that theyd make up. Similarly, despite different birth countries, Willow and Toasty bring the same surname to the party, despite being from different parts of Europe. Would be funny to see a pair of Soderberg-Snooks jerseys lining up side-by-side for the opening faceoff. No matter how you slice it, someone will have to play on their off-side, being that willow is the only RD of the bunch. Even bringing McCarthy into the conversation doesn’t fix that. Im going Toasty-Willow and Maximova-Shaw.

(If more than one of your teammates made the game, pick one of those players other than yourself. From the Atlanta Inferno, we have both Billy Herrington AND Jiggle E Puff. The top left wing and right wing for the team at 98 and 94 points. I mean I have spoken on Jiggle E Puff in years past. The name alone is worthy of All Star Week, awards, anything that this league has to give them. And that is not even touching on the skill of the two of them together. Some could even say they were the sole reason why Atlanta made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals in the playoffs. If the coach decides to leave these two on a line together (as they should, why in the hell wouldn't they?) the team is ensured to excel. I mean think about it, these two guys on either side of the best center in the league, Tony Soprano? It is game over. Pure dominance the sport has never seen.

Which player on your team has the best chance of receiving an award? Which award and why do you think it is them? How likely do you think it is for them to get the nomination for it?

Well, they are not exactly a player. I mean they do have a player, but the one who deserves a true reward I think would be Micool as the best "rookie" GM / co-GM. Micool has been one with my entire perception of the Atlanta Inferno since I first joined the team years ago. He is an incredible friend, a fantastic presence to have in the locker room and Discord server, and has been doing great as a GM! He is always hyping up the team to do their tasks in fun, not obnoxious ways. He is always looking out for new sims and sharing the results if people can't tune in, he has just been all around fantastic. Now that is not to say the rookie of Micool, Nathangus McExplosion, is not deserving of the rookie of the year award. It is hard to make a true impact in your rookie year in the Simulation Hockey League, yet somehow this guy still managed to finish with 46 points.

11. Thinking Out Of The Box

I'm not a fan of sports leagues with lots of teams. With many pro leagues ballooning to well over 30 teams, talent gets spread too thinly across too many teams. But the All-Star game is the perfect opportunity to bring big-league hockey to cities that don't have teams of their own. If I were in charge, I would ensure that every All-Star game was played in city without either an SHL or SMJHL team.  Aside from spreading the love of big-league hockey across the continent, it would act as a way to gauge the popularity of hockey in cities that might be candidates for relocation some time in the future.

If I were to pick the top few choices to host an All-Star game, number one on my list would have to be Halifax, Nova Scotia. It's almost shocking that there's no SMJHL team anywhere in Atlantic Canada, and given their contribution to hockey, it's long overdue to give them something in return. Second on my list for hosting the All-Star game would be Pittsburgh. You may be sensing a real-life theme here; I can't deny that there is one. Finally, I'd get Milwaukee a shot at hosting.  Hockey is very popular in Wisconsin, and the fans there would love to host a game.

13. I Have Your Back

It doesn't seem terribly likely that anyone from the Anchorage Armada will win an award this season, but if I had to pick one, it would probably be defender Javelin Bodine. His assist and point totals were third-best among SMJHL defenders, and only one D in the league had more power-play points.

2. The most natural first pairing for the east seems to be to find the right wingers for C Tony Soprano, who led the east forwards in points this year. One issue the east has is a lack of natural left wingers, but with Jiggle E. Puff playing on the left most of the season despite being a natural right winger, it makes most sense to put him on the LW with Antoine Beauregard as the RW, who had the best season of the various East right wingers. Assembling the next line is a bit tougher as there is a glut of centers on the roster, but a slight edge will have to go to Max Carnage to center the second line as his team ultimately was more successful than Lahey's team despite both players putting up similar numbers. Gnabe Dabson saw time at RW for Philly despite being a natural Center, so it makes sense to have him as Carnage's right wing, which leaves Trevor Lahey to fill in the gap in LW to close out the East's second line. (183 words, 3 TPE)

3. While it may be cool to see different pairings than you are used to, I think it only makes sense if those pairings would actually make sense. With regards to the SFP pairing, Toasty takes a much more active role offensively as a blueliner, which is enabled by the much more stay at home, cover for your aggressive, pinching partner type of play from Sydney Shaw. It wouldn't make sense to split this pairing up because the LAP pairing of Elena Maximova and Willow Soderberg-Snooks is a much more balanced pairing, where both players share the load both offensively and defensively. Toasty's offensive capabilities require a partner like Shaw to balance it out and pairing Toasty with one of the LAP blueliners simply doesn't make sense. (130 words, 2 TPE)

Tony Soprano is my choice to highlight (of the three teammates that nabbed very well deserved all star nods) due to one very simple fact. Soprano is the best player in the world currently (and possibly of all time, who knows) and that’s the sort of skater that should be recognized by the prestigious honor of the all star roster selection. A first ballot hall of famer who continues to dominate at every level. Immense talent, killer name, the ultimate face of the franchise type of player who needs to be at public events in front of the cameras to show off an unbelievable skill-set to both the children watching at home and the grown-ups performing (albeit, not as well) alongside him on the ice. Two way, goal scoring, high IQ, high athletic ability, high skill players come around every so often, but none on the level of this freak. We should worship the man who gets me more secondary assists than any active player.

I think because my last question didn’t hype him up enough, I’m gonna go with Tony Soprano yet again for this pick. Deserving of a great many awards, I would primarily put my money on him getting a nod for his outstanding defensive play. I could see a nomination for MVP but I think the various hacks and frauds will vote wrong and not give it to him. Hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see it. I think a nomination for best defensive forward is in the cards, and in a perfect world, a win is on the table. I would put the nomination around 90% and the win at around a 60% based on my own inside information asking around the Vegas strip.
