- Jiggly_333 - 06-25-2017 ![]() Story: We had 7 back-to-back games against Detroit for some weird reason and we were tied at 3 before the last game (we lost) Side story: It kinda looks like shit because I only have MS Paint and generally have no real ability, but honestly it's some of my best work. - Shmurph - 06-26-2017 ![]() - Theo667 - 06-26-2017 219 words Before the Halifax Raiders go into battle against their most despised foe, the Prince George Firebirds, their locker room is reminiscent of a raiding camp from years long past. Battle-hardened warriors fill the room, all participating in their time honored pre-combat rituals. Some sharpen their blades, others meditate to prepare themselves mentally. They don their protective gear like suits of armor, ready to face their enemy on the field of battle. The locker room is usually a more comfortable place, with laughter and friendly ribbing of one another, but the team that they play tonight brings out everybody's serious side. Both teams are in the beginning phase of a rebuild, and have many rookies with few veteran players. Each team has scratched and clawed their way to a few victories so far this season, and every time they play each other is a battle to stay out of last place. The players all know what is on the line, and will play with all the fire and heart that they have. The rebuilding franchises have found themselves in a kindling rivalry from playing every game like this. Tonight, the Raiders' captain will give a pregame speech, and he knows that his players will do everything they can to prove which franchise will come to dominate the SMJHL for years. - STZ - 06-26-2017 ![]() - rowser - 06-26-2017 ![]() - schewbacca - 06-26-2017 ![]() - slomo76 - 06-27-2017 Code: Word Count - 288 words “My god am I sick of seeing these guys†– Detroit Falcons rookie Dean Youngblood speaking of the Montreal Militia. Look up the definition of the word RIVALRY, and you’ll come away with the following: A competition for the same objective or for superiority in the same field. For Detroit Falcons rookie center Dean Youngblood, he’s not quite sure why he dislikes them, but he does. It might have something to do with having played the Montreal Militia a total of 10 times in the Falcons’ first 13 games, or maybe it’s just something that happens when you pull on the red and white jersey. Either way there’s no love lost for the red and gold. “I don’t really have anything against them personally,†said Youngblood when asked about the distain felt between the two clubs. “I know there was a chat forum on the inter-webs that had a conversation title “F*** the Militaâ€, but I’m not too sure what that’s all about,†he added with a smile. It’s easy for Detroit to be disliked given the fact that they came out of nowhere a season ago to claim the Four Star Cup knocking off one favorite after another. But this season looks to be different. The club is comprised mostly of rookies with a few returning veterans, but for the most part the better portion of the team has no ties to old hate. Maybe in the end it’s as simple as the cliché states… In order to be the best, you have to beat the best. The Detroit Falcons are returning Champs; the Montreal Militia envy their success. Montreal is clearly hoping to win the “competition for the same objective and reign supreme in the same field.†- Lizzy4 - 06-27-2017 ![]() - WinGretzky - 06-27-2017 ![]() - Tylar - 06-27-2017 The Kelowna Knights and Vancouver Whalers rivalry has always been a big one in the SMJHL since they are both British Columbia based teams in the same league. These teams hate each other with a passion along with their fan bases. The games tend to get violent between the two and is almost always worth the price of admission. The Kelowna Knights fan base takes games against the Whalers pretty seriously, whether it is a home or away game. They call the Whalers the "Failers". The Kelowna Knights organization usually sets up a tailgate type party for games against the Whalers for the fans. In terms of the team, The Kelowna Knights players know that this rivalry is important so it is not hard to get up for the game. Usually the team. Defenseman Sami Owens had his first experience with the rivalry this season and was quoted as saying it was really intense and the veteran players stressed how important it was to win the game. He also said that even though it was his first time playing against them, he felt he hated them already once he hit the ice. The common theme for everyone in the Kelowna locker room is that they hate the Whalers. That is all they have to remember when playing them to spark the rivalry. Code: 222 Words - trella - 06-28-2017 In the SMJHJ, rivalries may be hard to come by and difficult to form. This is due to the call up of players to the SHL every season. However, if the St. Louis Scarecrows ever had a rivalry, it is most definitely the Detroit Falcons. Although every game is important to the Scarecrows, games against the falcons have a whole different feel. After the game six lost in the Four Star Cup Finals last year, the Scarecrows have come with a vengeance in every game against the Falcons. The first game between the two teams this season was a wild one, ending in a 4-2 Scarecrows win. The Scarecrows came out strong, taking a quick 3 to nothing lead. However, the Falcons stormed back and closed the lead by scoring two goals, making it 3-2. In the end, the Scarecrows ended up putting the game away in the third period, extending their lead to two goals. The most notable performance was by St Louis Scarecrows player Tigole Bitties. Bitties racked up 2 assists, a fight, and a game misconduct. After this performance, Bitties was named “The Falcon Killerâ€. In the next game between the Scarecrows and the Falcons, The Falcon Killer followed up his performance and stuck to his nickname by getting in another fight and beating a Falcon player with a crushing right hook en route to another Scarecrow victory. Even though the Falcons won last year, the Scarecrows are out to prove to the league that they are the real deal. 253 words - bluesfan55 - 06-28-2017 The biggest rivalry in the whole of the SMJHL has to be the Detroit Falcons vs the Saint Louis Scarecrows. As a Saint Louis player, I can tell you that this rivalry is one of the most intense rivalries I've ever played in. I hate Detroit, and the players never endeared themselves to me much while I was a kid watching the SMJHL on TV. I was always a Saint Louis fan as well, so I always hated the Falcons. Now that I'm actually part of it, I can see why it's so intense. One of the games I remember seeing as a kid was the so-called "Destroying of Detroit". The Scarecrows were down 4-1 after two periods and decided to go all out, playing no defense and checking the hell out of the Falcons players. The final score was 10-5 and that game went down in history. Now, this season I've played in the rivalry and I've experienced why it's so intense. There's no love lost between these two rivals and the games are always close and physical. This rivalry will always be tough and physical, and long after my playing days I'll remember playing in this storied rivalry. 204 words - Anti-Hype - 06-28-2017 As far as rivalries goes you don't have to look far when it comes to Ruggeri. His biggest rivals are his own team mates but, not in a bad way. He views their performances at practice or in the game as benchmarks for him to live by. He wants to out perform everyone but not to show hes the best just because he has that competitive edge. If he had to pick one it would have to be his line mate Chase Byron. Though are on the ice together most of the time Byron has been out performing Ruggeri. Luckily for him they have been working together to improve themselves and stay tight in their line and its been working quite well. But, Ruggeri has stated "Chase may be killing it right now but I'm going to catch up to him and I'm going to be the better player." It's tough to say this early on who the better guy will be but one thing is for sure. This is the kind of culture you want in your locker room. The Mammoths certainly have struck gold with the fellas holding down their second defensive line. If they can stay this hungry then the sky in the limit. - Mook - 06-28-2017 How do the Colorado Mammoths prepare for a game against the Halifax Raiders? Well first, they get out of bed. Of course that's the first step in anything. Next, they hop on Discord and talk about eachothers mornings, what they had for breakfast, describe their first bowel movement of the day, how they are going to totally crush a sando at lunch. Come 5PM, they realize they should probably get to the arena. You can't win a game unless you show up, right? That's basically all you have to do in order to win against the Raiders anyways. What can the Mammoths do to spice things up this game? Well, why not play with wrong handed sticks, it might make things a little bit closer. There is one more step in order to prepare for such a game, the customary shooter tutor shot chute. A shooter tutor is strung from the ceiling and a player stands under each hole. Shots are quickly poured down the tutor's front and liquor starts raining from the sky. Once I player either has his fill, or gets it in his eyes, he moves to make room for the next. The point isn't to get drunk, it's just to start the post-game celebration, pregame. - Inf1d3l - 06-29-2017 One of the surprise rivalries that has emerged this year has been the Halifax Raiders and the Kelowna Knights. Halifax, a rebuilding team with a strong core of rookies, going against a more veteran and stable rostered team in Kelowna. However, the rookies of Halifax have been a surprise to the Knights thus far this season, earning three wins in four meetings thus far between the teams. The first, a two goal win for the Raiders, surprised many. The win was fueled by rookies such as Ted Glass (1G, 1A) Cloud McCarthy (2A) and Cody Fletcher (5 Shots). The Knights were lead by Eddie Andrezjeck (1G, 1A, 10 shots) and Sami OWens (2A) but fell short of the Raiders surging offense. Both teams lost their cool at times, the game had over a dozen penalties combined, but Halifax was able to capitalize on those special teams opportunities and by the sixty minute mark, show the home crowd their second win of the season. Who knows how this rivalry may continue this season and for many to come, as the Raiders rookie roster continues into their second year at the end of this season, their desire to keep the Knights under their boot could fuel something rarely seen in sports, but n high demand. |
