The first player to jump out as a candidate for the Sarmad Khan other than the top scoring forward is Jae-ik Barron. Barron is the only player to hit the 100 point mark this season without having at least one teammate post at least 90 points. Atlanta also finished second in the overall standings and Barron carried a heavy load for a team that performed well, arguably a more important player to his team than Webb was to SFP.  On the defensive side, while one might be tempted to go with one of the Seattle duo of blueliners who put up gaudy goal and assist numbers, in my opinion Ace Lightning gets the nod over either of them. Lightning put up 57 points, good for second among all defensemen for a relatively mediocre Baltimore team that wasn't exactly loaded with offensive firepower. But perhaps more importantly, Lightning led the league in takeaways and time on ice, while also putting up respectable blocked shot numbers in addition to his offensive contributions. For that, I'd consider Ace Lightning the strongest candidate to topple Webb. (185 words)

Written Prompt #2

Oftentimes the player in any league with the most points also happens to be one of the better, if not best teams, in the league. If that player was removed, would that team be just as good? It’s very likely. That isn’t to say Logan Webb isn’t a very formidable player who had a tremendous season. 50 goals and a 100+ point season is nothing to scoff at so stick tap to them.
What other players should be in the mix when it comes to being the most valuable player to their team across the league though?

Johnny Wagner-Svensson: Coming off the back of S80 which found him come second league-wide in scoring with 111 points and a trip to the finals, there was excitement for Johnny and Tampa going into S81. Their success thus far in the S81 playoffs shows that wasn’t a fluke, however the regular season saw them slip in the standings from the year previous. With 36 wins, it saw them drop to 11th overall in the standings. However, if you remove JWS’s 10 game-winning goals that total drops to 26 and puts them at the bottom of the East standings and sees them just narrowly make the playoffs. His 68 points might not scream off the page, but he scored when it mattered most for his team.

Westley Kirkpatrick: You could make the same argument for Kirkpatrick as the one for Wagner-Svensson. With Toronto sneaking into the playoffs as the 8th seed with 27 wins, they would have plummeted down the standings once removing Kirkpatrick’s 7 GWGs, a category he led the team in. As a defensemen! But that isn’t all he brings to the table. His 307 blocked shots places him 4th among all d-men in the league. Once factoring in both his offensive and defensive contributions, Kirkpatrick easily has a case to win the Khan, as well as more hardware, this season.

With at least the past 10 Sarmad Khan winners also finishing the season as the league leader in points, it wouldn't be shocking to see Logan Webb's name called at the awards ceremony. Suffice to say, there are many worthy candidates that deserve to be considered when it comes time for voters to make their selection this year.

If Abbe Wass was selected to shake things up he would do so, and he would do it good.
The first rule he would change is that the goaliezone in front of the goal would not only be for the goalie, anyone can enter. but at its own risk. The goalies can do whatever they want to the players inside. And as long it isnt make permanent damage and bring blood its not a penelty. The point of the rule is to bring the action to the goalies.
The seccond rule Abbe would change is the two minute penaltys. No more 2 minutes. its 5 minutes, 10 min personal, game misconduct or nothing. and the point of that rule is to really punish bad behavior and give the teams who exseed at special teams a little nudge in the right direction.
The last rule Abbe Wass would make is the referee. There wouldnt be any. Only video and drones. making the calls a bit delayd but correct. and if there is a fight that needs seperation, it wont happen. But the players who throw the gloves will be punished harder after the games. like a long susspention and a minimum of 3 months salary

To me, an MVP should be someone who lifts their whole team on their back, not just the top scorer. It's about being the player who made a massive impact and helped the team climb higher in the standings because of them. Or maybe it’s just someone with unbelievable stats over the season.

This year, Justin Time ( @RAmenAmen) definitely fits the bill on the second definitipn. His 48.97 goals saved above average (GSAA) is insane! No goalie has hit that number in the last 20 seasons (or maybe ever, I didn’t dig into stats before S60, too lazy). If Time were in the NHL, he’d rank 16th all-time for single-season GSAA and 2nd in the 21st century, right behind Linus Ullmark’s 49 GSAA in 2022-2023.

Time’s GSAA this season is right up there with some of the best goalies we’ve ever seen in professional hockey, like Roberto Luongo in 2003-2004 (48, tied), Patrick Roy in 1989-1990 (47), Tim Thomas in 2010-2011 (46), and Igor Shesterkin (45). Sorry, Spidey, but give this man his award.

If Cauliflower Pizza were in charge of making a significant rule change to the league to help make a shake up, one rule would be to ensure backups get played every game 3 and 4. Making it so they play 2 games a series. It may not be a huge difference in the way the game is played out however it would potentially cause some chaos on the ice. Another rule I would implement would be eliminating offsides only in the finals. A player if they wish can camp out in the offensive zone if their team is more than comfortable handling a 5 on 4 in their defensive end. This also will cause some issues with exits and entry as teams who defend against exits will now have an issue with teams slap shotting the puck all the way down the ice to their teammate who is constantly inside their offensive zone.

Hahaha, you’ve fallen into my trap! Yes, I’ll gladly mix things up.

First rule change – the higher seed gets home-ice for every playoff game. Not just home-ice advantage for the series … every game of the series. That means Quebec City doesn’t have to leave home at any point during the playoffs, the opposition must always come to them! Bahaha!

Also? Music can play during the entirety of gameplay, like you hear in professional basketball, not just during stoppages. Now, QCC’s players will feed off the energy of “La machine à scorer” playing on repeat while opponents will be infuriated by it. No other songs. Just “La machine à scorer.”

Also, the home team has a two-minute period during every game where they can opt to put an extra attacker on the ice without pulling their goalie. Once you put the player out there, he must stay out there for the entire two minutes – no line change for this one little guy/gal/animal/animated character/inanimate object, you weirdos. BUT it gives the team two minutes to capitalize on an extra player on the ice. Do you save it for the end of the game? Take advantage of a penalty to create a 6-on-4? Or open the game with it hoping to create an early multi-goal lead? Regardless, none of QCC’s opponents will ever get to use it. Ha ha!

I think a good rule is goalies must switch each quarter as I feel like this will show the well built rosters apart from the rosters relying one 1 good goalie to pull them through the playoffs I also believe it will lead to more exciting games and require a bit more finesse and strategy as the planning with likes as you don’t want ur 2nd goalie out playing with 2nd and 3rd lines for a majority of times. I might be saying this as a forward who wants more goals and with a team that might suffer but I think it would be a interesting change that would definitely stop the threats. Another interesting rule would be the winner of a fight doesn’t get put in the box why he punished for being good at fighting but that would be hard to put into the sim and it also might be my Scottish barbarian side coming out as who doesn’t love a good fight

RE: S81 PT #5: Let’s Mix It Up - Ragnar - 03-23-2025

If I could do absolutely anything to shake things up in the playoffs, I would just make every playoff game involving the New England Wolfpack start with the Wolfpack up 15-0. As long as Ongo Gablogian isn’t on the ice, we should be able to protect that type of lead. I understand that that isn’t the funnest way to change the rules and is kind of a lame change, so another one I would do is make the goalies dress out and become the 1C of the teams, while the 1C has to become the head coach, and the head coach has to become the goalie. This would lower the effectiveness of almost every part of the team except the defense. For the defense, I would just dull up their skates really good before the game, so they had to figure out how to play while barely being able to skate.

Quote:Written Option 1: So, we have already seen back to back cups in both leagues and the same teams are once again one of the top competitors. So it happens that your player gets randomly selected to mix things up. They get to make any rule changes to the game for these playoffs to try ensure that we get the most unpredictable and exiting playoffs. What changes do the do? Are they trying to just create chaos or maybe trying to tune the rules to benefit their own team? How far would they push things, does it even look like hockey anymore after they are done? Would we still see three-peats in both leagues?

If my player was in charge of changing the rules to increase the unpredictability of the playoffs, he’d go for a change that affects the way rosters are selected. He’d create a rule where the highest TPE players have to have the least amount of playing time, and the lowest TPE players have to have the most.

This would benefit teams that focus on depth rather than top-heavy rosters. You wouldn’t be able to just rely on three forwards and three defenders to get it done in the postseason. You’d also have to be very careful about when you play your best players, since having those precious minutes spent in your own zone can be a critical loss.

I don’t necessarily know if this would amount to any significant changes in how the playoffs shape out, as the teams with the best rosters tend to have talent all up and down the lineup. But this would at least add an interesting twist on the old tried and true way of line management.

RE: S81 PT #5: Let’s Mix It Up - Whitecap - 03-23-2025

Prompt 1:
So every season comes and goes, new winners get crowned, losers are eliminated from the playoffs in various ways. But it's the same things every time just with slightly different teams, year in and year out. Something is needed to shake things up a bit, and Gagner has just the plan for that.

So when the playoffs start, 4 teams are already eliminated. The teams that made it will then get to draft players from the eliminated teams to bolster their playoff chances. The extra twist will be that the lowest seeded team gets too choose first to ensure there is parity. Then, when the 1st round is over, players from the newly eliminated teams will then be drafted to 2nd round teams, and so on until we get to the finals.

Imagine the chaos, imagine the series. No more easy sweeps early on, so much parity and unpredictability. Then of course, when the playoffs are over, players get to return to their original teams again. It's a perfect plan.

I know that it's standard practice for both our league and the actual NHL to give MVP to the person who had the most points, but I think it's more interesting when other metrics and positions are considered. The league has a perfect example to do that this season with Justin Time. While Logan Webb had a superstar season, it was actually relatively low for a season leader in FHM8. Webb's 50 goals and 108 points only tie him for the 70th and 71st most in an FHM8 season. Meanwhile, Time just had the best goaltending season in FHM8 history. I know people may downplay it since being on good teams inflate goalie numbers, but Time also put up historical numbers in the stats that people generally agree aren't correlated with team strength. Time set the FHM8 record (amongst starters) with a .923 save %. The next highest season was 0.919. Only 8 goalies have had a season better than 0.915, and Time even shattered that. He also shattered the FHM8 gsaa record with almost 49. The next highest goalie had just over 37. Pretty crazy for a guy on his 15th season.
