Yes deny some people the playoffs, not everyone gets everything they want and that's what makes it fun.

I feel like there's a balance to be struck here. If the only disadvantage of ending up 9-10 is that you have to play 1 extra match to be where everyone else is in the playoffs, then it feels kinda lame. But this is a rookie league, so having first-genners miss playoffs might also be kinda lame (speaking as a first-genner). If we could just have the regular season seeding matter more than it does now, maybe we could kind of have the best of both worlds?

having teams not make the playoffs make the GMs want to focus on being competetive more than development and having a good locker room environment. Which is what the smjhl is supposed to be about
