S64 SMJHL PT#2 - Tactical Meeting
#31

Iam Downski is from the coldest and most remote parts of Russia, and still has zero grasp on the English language. This makes communicating with his teammates very difficult, so when Downski had his pre-season meeting with his new coach Southpaw over in Maine. It was a quick meeting, one with not a lot of back and forth between coach and player. At the beginning of the meeting Downski walked into Southpaw's office and did not even take a seat. Southpaw looked at him, and said "I want to start going over our li...", Downski did not even let Southpaw finish, and as he cut him off all he said was "Downski score goals" and immediately walked out of the room. Southpaw, left in a bit of a stupor quickly jotted in his notebook "Downski scores goals", he nodded and ultimately decided to place Downski on the 3rd line knowing full well that he had found himself a player that was not going to do anything on the defensive side of puck, but was simply here for one purpose... To score goals.

wow tommy westbrook but this time i upd has been settling into kelowna like a ham settles into the mud. nice and cozy with a ton of protection. such a fun time with his friends playing hockey. he is currently employed on the third line with his friends and teammates ben waters jr and samee. they employ a fast and agressive play style. their main objective is to chase down that fast and sneeky hockey puck. they go super hard and fast. tommy westbrook but this time i upd is also heavily relied on in the power play sector. he goes out as the face off man and the entire power play runs through him. he is the quarterback. they all run a triangle like formation and he makes the pass to the open guy always for the open net look. The penalty kill is also a very strong portion of his game. He plays hard

After preseason, I was invited into Fluw and Big Newffs office to discuss my role and future with the team.
"so Billy, we've decided you'll be playing left wing in the third line with Trevor Malone and Jeremy hall centering you two." said Fluw

I nodded in understanding.

Then Newff piped up, "we want you to be playing an agitator and pest kinda role. Finish your checks, talk some trash and maybe drop the gloves once in a while"

"that works I love getting under people's skin" I replied

"great seems like we're in agreement" Newff said

The meeting had concluded so I got up from my chair and started to leave

"hey blazes one more thing" I turned my head back to face Fluw. "don't even dream about getting power play time kid, now get the hell out of my office" and with that I left, my pride only slightly hurt.

I hope that my player and line tactics can be defensive, as C Jobin is a defensive first player. He wants to be the best shut down forward in the league, and hopes that his tactics will reflect that. He wants aggressive sliders and a hardcore back checker. He should be passing often as he’s not someone who looks to shoot much. He’s still pretty new so he won’t be getting too physical yet, but later on in his J career he will be a hitting machine too. His overall goal with personal and team sliders should be to stay out of the box and shut down the opposing teams too line. He doesn’t need to be on anything but the 3rd or 4th, as long as he’s getting a chance to neutralize their best player.

Of course, if he actually updated then he might have a better shot of achieving his dreams, right @G2019 :kek:

Miroslav Ketil fits into the second defensive pairing as the right-handed defenseman alongside Capy Bara. Miroslav is a good 200-foot player but absolutely excels with the puck on his stick, looking for a shooting lane or to set up a shot for a teammate. Sitting with 20 shots in just 17 games, Ketil shoots often. He also gets PP and PK time, the latter most likely due to his wonderful Takeaway to Giveaway ratio of 2.33.

The tactics this D-pairing deploys are a sound defensive game with a focus on controlling the puck. Ketil fits in because he can take away the puck from anyone, while Capy Bara is able to hold down shooting lanes. In the offensive zone, Ketil wants the puck and tries to shoot for rebounds or set up teammates for shots. His shots have only translated to two goals and no assists so far, but his defensive numbers have been wonderful. Vancouver has had a nightmare start to the season, but Ketil's season is starting to ramp up.

Seamus was put on the first line right away. His job is to shut people down and so the coach basically said to him. Look Seamus, you see the puck. Get me the puck. So Seamus goes out there to lay down the smacks and the slaps. Lately coach has been putting him on the power play. They told Seamus that he is to keep the puck in and pass it to the best player. Hey Seamus consistently not only passes out slaps. 14 slaps. That is a lot of slaps. So many slaps that Seamus has 2 goals and Seamus was never really known for his goal scoring. See with all these slaps you'd think that this shutdown D-man is not actually playing like a shutdown D-man. He doesn't block shots, he just slaps. Lots of hits though. So you can bet the great O'Slapahan is doing his namesake proud.

Slaps

The young guns line in Newfoundland is really out there to be solid defensively and add points as they can in their very limited time on ice. With that being said, they don't really have very much new individual tactics as line but to play really close on the puck and make it very hard for other teams to do anything while they are on the ice. Newfoundland has some really good scoring lines who are going to get the most minutes and the most points, so whenever our line gets on the ice, it is to make sure the other lines get a rest and to tire out opponents. Anything extra is just icing on the cake at the end of the day. If we can make our line hard to play against and make it difficult for the opponents to be on the ice, then we have done our jobs, if we can then add points we are going above and beyond the call of duty. So that is the tactics we as a line are deploying.

My old players were more skilled based but Tanner is a much larger, more physical player. He's definitely hoping to play in a system where they grind down the other team down with hard checking and intense play in front of the net. I know cross checking is illegal, but I think crosschecks to the ribs of my opponents is going to be an integral way to the way I play. If I make a few enemies along the way, that's just the cost of doing business. I think I'm really going to shine on the penalty kill. I'm going to do everything I can to clear out the front of the net so my goalie can easily see the puck and make easy saves. We're going to own the center of the ice so the other team is going to need to stick to the outside if they want a long career in this league. Hopefully this will make things nice and easy on the goalie and the other team will eventually just let us go and score because they're so frustrated.

As a rookie, Leon is getting the tough jobs for Anchorage to start his career, however it's the kind of challenge he relishes. Playing in a bottom 6 forward role means fewer minutes that other players and getting the tougher minutes starting in his own end and working to win the puck back for his teammates and keep possession for the team. For the first 10 games, Leon struggled finding his feet and his line was struggling to win possession back and was causing his team a lot of lost time and goals. Now in the last 5 games or so Leon has started to get his footing on the offensive end and even is averaging 1 minute of power play time per game. On the power play Leon is there to keep possession and pick out passes to the team's scorers rather than try to score himself. Worst case scenario is that he needs to try to aim a shot at goal.

Playing on the third line for the Colorado Raptors, Hynek Heidinger is amongst the top rookie scorers currently. As a player Heidinger uses his physical strength to create opportunities in front of the net. Presence in front of the net is a big part of the Raptors’ game plan, creating open spaces to increase scoring chances. The constant push against opposing teams creates turnovers and opens opportunities for offensive pressure. Heidinger’s line is physical but they use their physicality to produce points. There is always things to work on and improve as a team and as a player but the current tactics of having a physical presence in front of the net and being aggressive on the puck seem to be working as the Raptors are sitting 2nd overall right now. I have trust in the Colorado management that if production starts to drop off that tactics will be changed amongst other things to get the team back in gear but as of now everything is working as it should.
