After barely missing the medal round in the S49 tournament, the still very young Swiss team is starting another run for glory. Here is the team that can accomplish this task:
The rookies: First and foremost a shoutout to the two players who will play their first IIHF tournament this season. From Carolina and as a fresh transfer from the United States of America joins us this season: LW - Ricky Bobby @"ImASurviver" Ricky Bobby is an amazing talent to add to our bottom 6 and there is no doubt that he will be one of the biggest stars for this team in the future. And from the cold, cold north, from Anchorage, a freshly naturalized Dutchman joins us as well. It is of course: Mitchell van der Heijden @bluesfan55 Van der Heijden is a year younger than Bobby, but not at all less talented. He is only the fifth natural center on the team, but he will certainly find his spot in the bottom 6 for this tournament and also has the potential to one day be the center of our first line. The goalies: For the first time in existance, the Swiss team will play the same two goalies as they did in the last tournament. On the backup position, playing his second IIHF tournament we have: G - Markus Tegernako @KlusteR Tegernako has grown into the starter position in Lethbridge last season. He will have to wait a bit to achieve that in Switzerland, but he will certainly get a couple of starts again this time around. Because our undisputed number one will once again be: G - Tibuk Soonika @chetib Soonika is closing in to 1k tpe and has recently taken over as the number 1 keeper of the Chicago Syndicate. He is capable to lead us to the medal round. The defense: Defense might be the weak spot of this team, since the majority are still junior players, but nevertheless, we have some decent to very good players in our back end. Leading the defense again is a certain scrub named D - Mathias Seger @Segi Coming off of a dificult season in Minnesota. So he is in the same situation as last season when he almost cracked some IIHF records. Maybe he can finish this season on a highlight. The only other defender who will play in the SHL next season is Edmonton Blizzard D - FR Finn-Rhys @FinnRhys Definitely the biggest promise for the near future in the Swiss defense. Getting some SHL experience is going to benefit his game a lot. Then there are the two younger talents D - Ursin Zimmermann @UrsinZ Zimmermann had a good season with the Anaheim Outlaws, where he spent his last season as alternate captain. He is certainly ready for bigger tasks. D - Daniel Kuster @kuschy Kuster is coming from an almost 4 Star Cup win with the Colorado Raptors. His development is almost twinned with Zimmermann's, so the two of them will hopefully be able to hold down the fort. And then, we have the two sadly inactive ones D - Basil Magnicotta @Rancidbudgie Magnicotta was a big promise in his first two seasons, but he will likely never play in the SHL and will play third line minutes in the IIHF. D - Noah Andros @Good_Ole_Kimmy Drafted 1st in his SMJHL draft, Andros' development sadly seems to have come to a halt. He can still do some valuable shutdown work with Magnicotta on the third pairing though. The Forwards: First off, we start with this season's captain, who will be none other than Chicago's LW - Lallo Selman @BDonini The offensive forward was the second best scorer on the Chicago Syndicate in his rookie year. He already had a great IIHF season last year, so we can expect a lot of Selman this time around. As the first alternate captain, coming hot from Buffalo is LW - Nicolaj Muller @esilverm Being on a much stronger team than Selman, Muller's rookie season did not look quiet as impressive, but that does not mean that he will be any worse in this upcoming tournament. As our number one center this season, we have again, New England's C - Slap McShotty @bbjygm McShotty had a decent season with the Wolfpack, but so far he has always excelled in the international games, so let us hope that he will do so again and show that he can be our 1C for the upcoming seasons. RW - Elijah Jones @Toivo Up next, we have another recent SHL rookie. This time from the Los Angeles Panthers. For not always getting top 6 minutes, his numbers looked pretty good. But he as well can show what he is really capable of in this IIHF tournament. RW - Anthony Archer @Zach Archer most likely played his last SMJHL season with the Colorado Raptors and barely missed winning the Four Star Cup. If everything goes to plan, he will play his next season with the Tampa Bay Barracuda who have also just barely missed winning a cup. C - Daniel Bischoff @dylanjj37 Bischoff is a young natural center who has played on the wing in Anchorage this season. This versatility makes him a valuable asset on our bottom six for now, but he will join the top six soon enough. C - Luca Veccelli @Symmetrik Vecelli is a similar player to Bischoff, but the Lethbridge center might be a bit better in the face off circle. He did not manage to get the same amount of points as in his rookie season, so Veccelli has to show what he is capable of in the international tournaments this season. This brings us to the inactive forwards. First of all RW - Sulak O'Hritea @MyLittleHexx Sadly, O'Hritea will retire after this tournament. He is one of the original Swiss players and in the first three seasons in which Switzerland played in the IIHF, O'Hritea was the clearly best forward on the team. This season, he will still have a spot in the top 6, before one of our young talents will replace him. I want to wish him all the best for his retirement! C - Ty Hoover @Hoovuh Hoover will be our 2C probably for one last season until the young Bischoff and Veccelli will pass him. Next to O'Hritea he is another original Swiss and has been an important player on every season's roster so far. The fact that he will soon lose his top 6 spot is telling about the steady quality increase on this team. RW - Rahotep Tutankhamun @ORIGINSZ Tutankhamun will also leave us after this season. He joined inactive as a filler player and will soon make space for future talent. Is this a roster that can attack the medal round? We will see soon! Let's go!
