Season 79 Texas Renegades Team Awards
|
![]() Registered Posting Freak ![]() ![]() We are back with another edition of the Texas Renegades team awards. In Season 79, the Renegades had another great regular season with a record of 44-21-1 for 89 points, third best in the SHL. In the playoffs, Texas had early success as they took down Seattle in 5 games in round 1, and then swept Minnesota in round 2. In the conference finals, things did not fully go the Renegades way as they lost in 5 games to the eventual cup champion San Francisco Pride. As always, we like to take some time and celebrate the individual achievements of several Renegades with our team awards!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Texas Renegades "Sharpshooter" Award
(most goals this season)
In Texas, a sharpshooter is a name given to one who is quick with their pistols or highly skilled in shooting their weapon! We of course have a player who is highly skilled at shooting pucks with their stick and thus they are the Texas Renegades “Sharpshooter”.
Your Texas Renegade "Sharpshooter" this season is:
Chris Valentine
For the second season in a row, Chris Valentine is your Sharpshooter award winner! Valentine was definitely shooting this season, as he finished with a team and league leading 54 goals. It was an outstanding shooting season for Chris, as Texas relied on him all year to find the back of the net. Valentine continuously stepped up in the biggest moments and his 54 goals were evidence that he played a huge part in the Renegades success in Season 79.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Renegades The Texas Renegades "Wheel Horse" Award Renegades
(most assists this season)
In Texas, a right hand man or pal is known as a wheel horse! Given that this award is for most assists, I think we can all call that guy our right hand man!
Your Texas Renegades "Wheel Horse" this season is:
Marton Diehm
Also for the second season in a row, Marton Diehm is your Wheel Horse award winner! Diehm finished the season with 59 assists, one more than Valentine for the team lead. Diehm has shown in his time as a Renegade that he is an offensive force, with the ability to both score and pass. This season, Diehm made it a point to find his teammate Valentine on many instances and it led to a team lead in assists for Marton.

Renegades The Texas Renegades "Ranahan" Award Renegades
(most points this season)
Another name for the best cowboy or most experienced cowboy is Ranahan. Given that this award is going to the player who got the most points in a season, it’s fitting to call that person the top cowboy or “Ranahan”!
Your Texas Renegades "Ranahan" this season is:
Chris Valentine
Just like the Sharpshooter award, Valentine once again wins the team Ranahan award for most points in the season! Valentine finished with 112 points, which was the Texas team lead by a wide margin and the SHL lead by one point. Valentine did it all this season offensively, and he battled all season to claim that SHL points leader spot. Not much more can be said about Valentine, but we in Texas are very excited to see him get the team recognition as well as a lot of league wide recognition too.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Texas Renegades "Fantobens Force" Award
(most hits this season)
Named after precious Joseph Fantobens, this award goes to the player with the most hits in a season. Joseph Fantobens was known for getting out there and crushing the body. For four straight seasons (S60-S63) Fantobens had over 300 hits a season. During those seasons he combined for a total of 1281 hits which is absolutely insane. To remember those bone crushing hits, we have named this award after him!
The Texas Renegade earning this seasons "Fantobens Force" award is:
Marton Diehm
We are getting to the point where this award name might be changed, because once again Marton Diehm led the Texas Renegades in hits with 154! Diehm has consistently won this award, as he always emphasizes the physical part of his game to let opposing players know he is not just a one sided player. Diehm's 154 points also put him fourth in the entire SHL for hits in the season. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Texas Renegades "Puoli Pulverizer" Award
(most shots blocked)
Puolivalmiste played an integral part in Texas’s success. They organized and managed the team into a force and led them to two challenge cup victories, season 59 and season 62. Puoli is a very well respected user in the SHL and is an absolute wealth of knowledge. The “Puoli Pulverizer” Award goes to the player with the most shots blocked, a stat well loved by GMs and their players sacrifice the body to win the game!
The Texas Renegade earning the "Puoli Pulverizer" Award is:
Hodor!
Hodor!
We say it every season, but are you really surprised? Hodor once again wins the Puoli Pulverizer award by a large margin. Hodor finished the season with 284 shot blocks on the year, far and away the most for any Renegade. This number also put Hodor tied for 5th in the SHL in shots blocked in Season 79. Hodor is a true defensive defenseman, and at this point opposing forwards are more surprised when Hodor does not block their shot rather than when he does!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Texas Renegades "Buckaroo" Award Renegades
(most underrated)
This is a new award starting in S70! Replacing the Texas “Varmint” award for most penalty minutes, we wanted to have an award for a player on the team who performed very well but also may have flown under the radar. Everyone loves a Buckaroo!
The Texas Renegades "Buckaroo" this season is:
Iliket Urtles
Forward Iliket Urtles spent his first 6 SHL seasons with the Hamilton Steelhawks before joining Texas in Season 79. Urtles ended up being a key addition for the Renegades, as he was a dominant two way forward for the team. Urtles finished the regular season with 66 points, a +/- of 21, 49 blocks and 141 hits. He was all over the ice, and while other Renegades may have had higher totals, Urtles was extremely consistent and reliable all season for the Texas Renegades.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Renegades The Texas Renegades "Drag Rider" Award Renegades
(top performing Goaltender)
This award is also the winner of the coolest award name. A Drag Rider is a cowboy who rides at the rear of the herd. Given that the goalie sits at the back, they are indeed the Texas Renegade “Drag Rider”.
The Texas Renegades "Drag Rider" this season is:
Anthony Dionne and Roman Cechmanek II
We in the awards committee have decided to award two goaltenders the Drag Rider award this season. Franchise legend Anthony Dionne continued to play against the league's best, as he stared 49 games and finished with a record of 29-19-1 to go along with a 3.80 goals against average and a .885 save percentage. Dionne is always relied upon to show up in the biggest games, and he always answers the call. Backup goalie Roman Cechmanek II had an outstanding season in relief. Playing against some of the lower ranked teams during the season, he started 19 games and finished with a record of 15-2-0 and a 2.48 goals against average along with a .917 save percentage. Both goaltenders did a great job for Texas this season, and both are very worthy of receiving this award!![]() ![]() ![]() That’s it for awards this season! The Texas Renegades head into Season 80 hungry for a cup that they have come so close to for many seasons in a row. Congratulations to all of our award winners, and we will see you next time!
