SHL GM Admiral of the Data Seas Benjamin Surkhi-Ze'ev @HoltzFan10 One of the best pure wingers of the decade, Surkhi-Ze’ev also had one of the best peaks of any player. Say it with me “another edmonton draft pick”, Benjamin was a 12th OA pick in the S65 draft. First starting out in S68, Benjamin was able to start the decade with a bang. Scoring 33 goals and 50 assists for 83 points. What makes Surkhi-Ze’ev known is actually having 75 PIMs that season. Winning his first award, the Turd Ferguson award. However, that is not what Benjamin is known for in his career. S71 was even better than the last, scoring 38 goals and 92 points that season. This is the start of his beak seasons. In S72, it was his first 100+ point season where he scored 45 goals and 102 points with the Blizzard. First time reaching 40+ goals in a season, Benjamin was put on the 3rd All Star Team for the first time. S73 would be his best season ever. One of the best seasons of the decade, if it wasnt during the same season of Ivan Lacksamus and his linemate Evan Winter. Scoring 133!! Points, with 58 goals to boot. That was 3rd that season in points. Which is crazy to think about. Still earning an Aidan Richan nomination for breakout season, which is funny going from 100 points -> 133 would earn him that, but it did. In addition to that, he was nominated for the Ron Mexico for mvp, and nominated for the Jeff Dar for his two-way play. Finally, he had his one and only 1st All Star Team nomination. As a team as well, Edmonton won the cup that season. S74 was his last 100+ point season. Where he scored 48 goals, and 112 points. Earning him 2nd All Star Team, and his 3rd 40+ goal season. S75 would be the last point where he was on PP1, scoring 40 goals for the last time in his career, and 94 points to go along with it. Being traded to New Orleans as Edmonton went into a rebuild, Ben still kept up having good points, scoring 79 & 71 points in 76 & 77. S78 and S79 would be the first time he scored below a PPG this decade, scoring 60 & 58 points that season. Philippe-Eko Eel @hotdog At first I didnt realize how good Eko has been during this stretch of play. However, Eel has been a steadfast defenseman for Atlanta. Providing great stats for the majority of the decade. The GM of Atlanta, Hotdog was able to put his player in the best place to succeed, when needed, and it paid off. Helping bring Atlanta to be a premier team in the east. The journey first really starts in S73. As S70-S72 he wasnt given a lot of power play time, scoring 30,27, and 35 points respectively over that time. S73 he would have his first breakout season as a defenseman Scoring 14 goals and 51 assists for 65 points that season. Being nominated for the Aidan Richan award, and 2nd All Star Team. Eel had 4th most points by a defenseman that season. S74 would be another great season, scoring 51 points that season, as well as his first 200+ Shot blocked season with 204. S75 would be his first sniff at any major defenseman awards as well. Scoring 59 points that season, and 203 shots blocked, Eel was nominated for the Scott Stevens award for the first time this decade. Tied for 3rd in points that season as well, he was on the 2nd Team all star team, his 2nd of such accolades. S76 would be his first win of anything. A dip in points, only 44 points that season. Eel focused on the defensive end of his game. Having a career high of 227 shots blocked, and a great ratio of 13 gva and 77 takeaways. Eel won the Bojo Biscuit for best defensive defenseman that season. S77 he would shoot back up on the offense. Scoring his 2nd 65 point season of his career. Along with 177 shots blocked, Eel has just been a rock solid defenseman for the better part of 5 seasons so far. Earning his 3rd 2nd All star Team that season, eel had 1 more great season in him. S78 would be that great final season. His first time at a point per game by a defenseman, Eel was 2nd by a defenseman in points. As well as 3rd in goals with 20, along with another 200+ SB season. He just couldn't win the Scott Stevens, just being nominated for the 2nd time. However he did get his first 1st All Star Team. Erik Bergmark @NYR73 2nd OA pick to the Platoon in S68, Bergmark is also a rare one this high up on the list. Starting his career in S71, he was still able to make a huge impact on the league this decade. Starting off roaring hot, Bergmark had an amazing rookie season in S71. Scoring 47 goals his rookie year for 79 points. He handedly won the Ryan Jesster for best rookie that season, and rookie all star of course. S72 he would have a similar season, scoring 40+ goals again and 71 points that season. Bergmark was quickly cementing himself as a star for the Platoon. S73 would another 40+ goal season, scoring 45 goals and 89 points that season. S74 would be his first breakout season and cementing himself as one of the league’s best. Scoring 49 goals and 51 assists for 100 points. This was the first time he reached the 100+ point mark. S75 he proved he could do it again, with 46 goals and 102 assists. Earning himself a 3rd All Star team that season for his efforts. S76 would be another excellent season, and a career high for the winger. Scoring 51 goals and 60 assists for 111 points. Bergmark was 4th in the league in scoring that season. Earning himself 2nd All Star Team, and most importantly the Sarmad Khan for player voted MVP. not only that, but he was nominated for the Jeff Dar for his excellent two way play. S77 would be his 2nd 50+ goal season by scoring 50 exactly, along with 59 assists for 109 points to cap off the season. His 4th 100+ season in a row. Good for 5th in the league in points, Bergmark was nominated for the Sarmad Khan for the 2nd time of his career, and the Ron Mexico for the 1st time. He was also on the 1st All Star Team too. S78 would be his last 40+ goal season of the decade, scoring 44 goals and 91 seasons. It was 8+ seasons straight of 40+ goal seasons. Scoring exactly 400 goals over the decade, good for 3rd in the decade for goals. Which is a crazy stat along with him missing a whole season. One of the best goal scorers of the decade, Bergmark is well deserved. Hodor @bbjygm Like oiduser higher up on this list. Hodor should probably be higher on the list as well. I would argue the best Defensive Defenseman of all time, if not of recent times. Hodor transformed what it was to be a pure defensive defenseman. 8 times this decade he had 300 + shots blocked in a season. Hodor was a menace on the blueline. When he was on the ice you wouldnt get a shot through. Starting off in S70, Hodor had 291 shots blocked this season. It wouldn't take him long to start putting up nominations as well. A consistent 20-35 point scorer throughout his career. Hodor got his first Biscuit nomination in S72, with 348 shots blocked and a 11-33 gva to takeaway ratio. The biscuit was right around the corner in S73. With a stateline of 18-36 gva - takeaway ratio, and 363 shots blocked on the season. Hodor was able to win his first Bojo Biscuit of his career. Along with 3rd All Star Team. S74 would be a brief break from being nominated. However still with 331 shots blocked, he was just doing is role. S75 he would be nominated again. With 329 shots blocked and a 11-40 gva to takeaway ratio. He was also put on the 3rd all star team. S76 he would just do the same thing. 13-30 ratio, 335 shots blocked. He was once again nominated for the Bojo Biscuit. S77 would be his 2nd time winning it. Along with a career high in points at the time with 36, Hodor had 321 shots blocked that season. Winning the Biscuit that season, and another 3rd All Star Team. S78 would be the last time he was nominated in the decade. Along with a career high 41 points, Biscuit had 313 shots blocked and an impressive 7-36 ratio. S79 would be the 2nd time this decade he didnt reach 300+ shots blocked, with only 284 SB. A premier defensive defenseman, Hodor got his flowers for sure. With 3219 shots blocked in the decade. The 2nd highest was Wendolene Ramsbottom with only 2487. Hodor was heads and shoulders above the rest. Not just in shot blocking, but consistently when he was on the ice, he put the team on his back. 7 seasons not allowing 30 shots against / 60 when he was on the ice. A premier defensive defenseman. Toasty @Toast Another Premier defenseman of this decade. Toasty first started in S70 for the Pride. Lasting the whole decade with the team. Toasty Evolved his game. First a pure defensive defenseman, to an elite two-way defenseman. His best seasons came in the 2nd half of the decade, where he truly broke out. The first half of the decade, Toasty was just a good 2nd pairing defenseman. Scoring 20-33 points during that period. He was also strong defensively. Having 200+ shots blocked during those seasons. Toasty did his role well. However, it wasnt until S76 where he truly started to become a great defenseman. Scoring 41 points, this was the time Toasty reached 40+ points in a season. However it was S77 where the story began. His first time on PP1, he took the most of the opportunity. Scoring 16 goals and 65 points. Toasty was tied for 2nd in points that season by defenseman. Along with a 7-56 gva-tka ratio and 202 shots blocked. Toasty won the Scott Stevens award that season, 1st All star Team, and won his 2nd Challenge Cup of the Decade. S78 he would be taken off PP1, scoring 34 points that season. Before being put back on it, and having his best season ever. Scoring 27 goals, and 73 points. He led all defenseman in points that season. Being nominated for the Aidan Richan for breakout player, winning his 2nd Scott Stevens, 1st All Star Team, and nominated for the Bojo Biscuit that season as well. Toasty was at the top of his game during the final season of the decade
