S39 Championship Week
#16

Task #1 - How would round 1 have gone down if the team matchups had been different? Which teams would be advancing to round 2? Would it have been more evenly matched? Less?
Requirements: At least 200 words

Had the matchups been different we would've seen an entirely different postseason I believe. Vancouver clearly knew the strategy of choice to keep Kelowna down. Getting swept the Knights hope to rebound next season but had they faced Prince George, they could've gone through to the next round. Prince George had some troubles scoring in the first round and I believe Kelowna could've capitalized as they scored 12 goals in 4 against a very good Whalers team. Had this matchup been, I still see the Whalers going through against the Detroit Falcons. The Falcons had an even worse time finding the back of the net with 7 goals in 5 games and the Whalers came into round 1 extremely hot. Scoring 18 goals in 4 games is quite the feat, especially in the postseason. Vancouver is looking to go all the way, and I don't believe anyone can stop them save for the matchup we are looking at in the finals with St. Louis. If Kelowna had faced Detroit, again I think they make it through due to Detroit's troubles finding the twine, with Whalers plowing through Prince George Firebirds taking their rightful spot in the second round emphatically. The teams duking it out for the cup are the teams I saw doing it as soon as the season ended, no matter how the first round matchups went.

Task #2 - Make a top 5 list for the finals. Top 5 goals, top 5 players, top 5 noteworthy people in the audience for one of the games, whatever you want. No word count, but if you just list 5 names, you won't get the full 2 tpe. Be a little creative.

-TOP FIVE FANS-

1. Jimmy Sdnera - Man this kid loves the game. He lives and breathes it, watching as much as he possibly can. Scored tickets to the finals through his place of employment and doesn't care who's playing, but goes for the love of the game.

2. Kelsie Rettir - A fan of the fights. Kelsie keeps plastic knuckles on her as it brings her team luck in the fighting department. Plastic gets through the metal detectors allowing her to keep them on her game in and game out.

3. Avery Hsiri - A hockey transplant. Picked up watching the sport just recently but because he's filthy rich he has a suite to every game he possibly can. Possibly looking into purchasing a team and dons his Japanese jersey at every opportunity.

4. Matthew Nilmot - Again new to the game but unfortunately watches most games on the tele. When he gets to a game he goes full superfan, face painted, jersey, and even wears shinnies occasionally.

5. Eric Vazquez - Drunk. Every single game. The man spends a fortune on beer. When asked about the game the next day, his 1st star is the last beer he remembers drinking. Thankful for Ubers and Lyfts with this one, he pounds the beers harder than even the hardest beer leaguers.

Task #3 - Either write an interview with your player about your team's playoff hopes (or if you're on an eliminated team, an interview about your team's season in review) OR create a program cover for one of the games in any playoff series.
Requirements: Written option - At least 200 words. Graphic option - Logos of both teams in the matchup and at least one player render.

Reporter: So James Dekens, how do you feel about the season now that it has concluded for you and your fellow Knights?

J. Dekens: It was a heck of a rookie year. Though I played the fourth line and didn't get the ice time I'd have hoped, I took it with a grain of salt and continued to work hard throughout the season. I want my ice time, I have to earn it and that's what I'll be doing until opening day.

Reporter: James, you scored your first goal pretty late into the season, was it a relief when the puck crossed the line?

J. Dekens: Absolutely, I was beginning to get into my own head. Once it went in, a weight was off my shoulders and I was able to breathe a bit easier. Went on a short point streak that week and looking to build on it.

Reporter: How do you see the Knights faring next season after a disappointing first round exit?

J. Dekens: Everyone here in Kelowna is already gearing up for S40. We know what was expected of us from the fans. They wanted a deep run and while we dropped the ball this year, we are raring to go in S40.

Reporter: Last question here James, what can we expect from you next season? Will you focus on scoring or notching up some apples?

J. Dekens: I just want a season I feel good about. Get through it healthy as I can to provide some depth to the team. Obviously I want to contribute more next season, but there's more to the game than points and hope to provide some leadership and mental stability to the rooks that come in.

Task #2

Top 5 moments in the finals.

#5 In game 2 Logan Jensen had an absolutely unbelievable performance by carrying the Scarecrows offensively, the game was tied 2-2 in the third when Jensen scored once at 14:57 to put them up 3-2 and again at 19:07 to win the game.

#4 - At 13:19 in game #2 that Vancouver was winning 2-1 Timmy Barlow had a breakaway on Freidrich Schmidt that Schmidt managed to keep out of the net by making an unbelievable save. The save ended up rallying the team which would end up winning 4-2

#3 - In game #1 the game was tied 2-2 in the third and likely going to overtime when Eri Arai took a penalty which led to Brady McIntyre scoring the GWG on the PP with less than two minutes remaining in the period.

#2 - In game #5 the Whalers were down 3-1 in the series and if they lost here the series would've been over. The Whalers scored 5 goals on 21 shots but without Ostap Maksimov scoring his second of the game at 11:57 of the third the game would've been tied and going to OT.

#1 - This one may be a bit controversial but in game #6 the game was tied 1-1 and Vancouver had just scored when Joakim Lundqvist made the decision to fight Marcus Shane to get the boys going again. He ended up getting ejected but it completely rejuvenated the team and they'd end up winning the game and the cup 3-1.

Task #3 -

Q - We have Radovan Hudec here for an interview. Radovan, what are your thoughts on this past season?
RH - Obviously things did not go how I wanted or expected going into the season. At the beginning of the year I had all the hopes in the world that the team would challenge for the FS Cup but we just got started off on the wrong foot and it spiraled from there.
Q - Going back to the draft, what were your thoughts on being drafted by the Militia?
RH - They were definitely the team I most wanted to go to. The hope was to get to lift the cup with Koenig and Keenan but sadly that didn't come to fruition.
Q - What were your thoughts on the teams decision to rebuild half way through the seasons after the punishment they received from the SMJHL?
RH - At first I was definitely disappointed but you have to look from their perspective, the SMJHL has a very quick turnaround and players are gone within seasons. Unless you know your team has a great chance at the cup there's no point keeping send-downs since they're basically rentals after their draft year. You need to get a return on your investment while you still can or you're screwing over your future.
Q- The SMJHL draft is tonight, any news on where you might be going?
RH - I have absolutely no clue, I've only heard from one team so far. Hopefully I hear from a few more as we get closer.
Q- What are your goals going into next season?
RH - .The ultimate goal is winning the FS cup with the Militia but personally I'm hoping to continue to show improvement like I did at the end of the year and end next season over PPG.

"“HA HA! THIS GAME WILL NEVER END! I POSSESS THE SOUL OF EVERY GOALIE ON TEAM B!! CREW 4 LIFE!! SIGN WITH EDMONTON FOR THE CUP!!!” cackled Belial as he placed a Fedora on his head."

Task #1 -
The first round of the SMJHL playoffs did not contain the St. Louis Scarecrows in it, due to the fact that the great Scarecrows won the Laurifer trophy for best regular season record and therefore had a first round bye. Given the undeniable truth contained within the first sentence of this paragraph, I am not really sure why it's worth anyone's time to analyze the first round of the SMJHL playoffs. They were essentially irrelevant since everyone knew the Scarecrows were the best team with very little chance of winding up anywhere other than on the podium holding the Four Star Cup aloft in triumph. If we really must though, as silly as it seems, then fine. The Kelowna Knights were swept in the first round by their hated rivals the Vancouver Whalers and the Prince George Firebirds knocked out the Detroit Falcons in five games. Certainly, had the matchups been reversed, it is likely we would have gotten a more competitive first round. It could have hardly been less competitive. Likely, the Knights would have defeated the Falcons in about six games, based on my past experience beating the Falcons in the playoffs as a member of the Knights. The Whalers would have likely beaten Prince George through some sort of nefarious cheating scheme, as they have been known to do in the past.

Task #2 -
Top 5 arena snacks in St.. Louis during this year's finals.

#1. Dude Dogs - Dude Dogs are a favorite of the local adults, comprised of a standard hot dog served with a White Russian on the side.

#2. Logan Loveburgers - The Logan Loveburger is a favorite of some of the local ladies. It's an all beef patty, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions on a sesame seed bun, topped by Logans very own special sauce.

#3. Schmidtwurst - Scarecrows goalie Frederich Schmidt is a lover of fine German sausage. He has developed his own proprietary formula and now proudly serves it at the arena.

#4. McZ Balls - Somewhere deep in the bowels of the arena sit a dozen or so boxes full of something called McZ Balls. No one wants them or even knows what they really are, but they're there.

#5. Otis B Driftwood limited edition El Cheapo Cigars - Scarecrow rookie Otis B. Driftwood is rarely seen without his trademark El Cheapo stogie hanging out of his mouth. The company produced a limited batch of stogies in his honor and put them up for sale in the arena.

Task #3 -
We are here today with St. Louis Scarecrows rookie defenseman Otis B. Driftwood. He's been kind enough to spare us a few minutes prior to the start of game one of the finals. Mr. Driftwood

Otis: Please call me Otis. My father is Mr. Driftwood. Of course, you can also feel free to call me sweet cheeks or Priscilla.

Um, ok. Maybe I'll just go with Otis then.

Otis: Hey, whatever floats your boat.

Ok, well uh, anyway, so Otis what have you felt with your welcome from the Scarecrows this season?

Otis: I sent the club a wire stating, PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT ME AS A MEMBER.”

What do you think about your teammate McZ?

Otis: He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don't let that fool you. He really is an idiot.

Um, ok, well thanks a lot Otis.

Otis:
You got it. I've had a perfectly wonderful evening, but this wasn't it.
