As we step into the last 15 games of season 54, Carolina wasn’t going to let St. Louis have the last awards announcement. On behalf of @FuzzSHL, @"cpetrella", and the rest of the Council of Terry, I bring you the Carolina Kraken Season 53 Awards! ![]() Season 53 was a wild ride for Carolina. We went into the draft knowing that we were losing all three of our forward captains (Joseph Weston, Tom Fiddler, and Alexei Rykov), as well as five other forwards in Michael Fitted, Kenny Creller, Alexander Watcher, Ricky Bobby, and Sterling MacTavish. You all were greatly missed this past season, but your presence in the locker room was priceless. The initial outlook for the season was dismal at best, but that began to change with the draft class assembled and the UDFAs picked up. The rookie class was incredible, and we lost very few people to inactivity. Everyone coming into the organization fully bought into the rebuild and knew that the first season was going to be a hard one to get through. Despite that, Carolina hit a late surge, took a few games off the top teams and snuck into the playoffs as the 4 seed in the east. While we would eventually fall to the eventual champions in Detroit, those of us in leadership were proud to see a rookie class with zero first or second round draft picks rally together and make older teams sweat bullets night after night. Today, as Carolina sits in second place in the East, and third in the J, we celebrate not just the individual achievements of the past season, but the team and banner we fight for. With zero active people leaving the roster this past offseason it is abundantly clear that the success of this season is a reflection of the work put in by every player on the roster and member of the locker room, which has me beaming with pride to think about. As always the case for the organization, our awards are voted on by the active roster of that season. This season, I want to also highlight 2nd and 3rd vote earners as nominees in alphabetical order. Joining me to announce our non-MVP awards is my fellow Council member and draft classmate, @"cpetrella"! The first award tonight is the Kain Webb Award for team leadership!
Our nominees are…
Dwight Knight ®
Frans Eller
Jimmy Wagner
The winner of the Kian Webb Award for leadership is none other than our captain, Jimmy Wagner! Wagner stood out as a leader and an outstanding member as soon as we drafted him, and naming him captain to start the season with the new core was an absolute no-brainer. Wagner brings something to our team that cannot be replicated. His unrivaled activity, humor, and positivity as well as always being willing to help others is something that we lean on heavily here in Carolina. Congrats to Jimmy Wagner! @sve7en The second award tonight is the Cristoph Klose Award for the team’s top forward!
Our nominees are...
Jimmy Wagner
Velveteen Dream
Vitek Viticek ®
The winner of the Cristoph Klose Award for the team’s top forward also goes to Jimmy Wagner! Wagner had a strong showing on our top line in a season where the team struggled to score as a result of a huge amount of rookies taking their first steps into the league. Jimmy led us up front with a total of 10 goals and 20 assists for a nice 30 points. Wagner was only a minus two in a season where most of the team were huge minuses, he played a great two way game and was an active force all over the ice and is one of the biggest reasons why the Kraken were able to squeak into the playoffs. Congrats to Jimmy Wagner! @sve7en The third award tonight is the Quilha Agante Award for the team’s top defenseman!
Our nominees are…
Adam Friedland ®
Ambacas Cuddles
Michael Lee
The winner of the Quilha Agante Award for the team’s top defenseman goes to Ambacas Cuddles! Ambacas Cuddles stepped up in a big way in S53 as he really came into his own in his second season in the juniors. The Kraken leaned on Cuddles heavily to play big minutes and to use his strong defensive skills to keep pucks out of the net. Cuddles averaged over 22 minutes per game and put up a solid 16 points with 105 shot blocks to boot. Congrats to Ambacas Cuddles! @"cpetrella" The fourth award tonight is the Jordan Nugent Hall Award for the most dedicated player!
Our nominees are…
Dwight Knight ®
Frans Eller
Jimmy Wagner
The Jordan Nugent Hall Award for the most dedicated player goes to a rookie, Dwight Knight! Dwight Knight fell to the Kraken late in the draft as the Kraken did not have any early picks, and the team couldn’t have been happier with their selection. One of the highest earners in his class and extremely active in the locker room, Dwight Knight is everything that the Kraken look for in a player. Always chatting and doing his best for the team, Knight was a huge driving force on the team and in the locker room. We are truly excited to see what the future holds ahead for Dwight Knight! Congrats Dwight Knight! @hockeyiscool The fifth award tonight is the Petr Klimek Award for the best two-way player!
Our nominees are…
Ambacas Cuddles
Jimmy Wagner
Velveteen Dream
The Petr Klimek Award for the best two-way player goes to Velveteen Dream! Velveteen Dream is the veteran of our team, and he plays a very mature and responsible two way game. His play on the ice really helped us to shut down opposing top lines and won us a lot of games. Dream totaled 27 takeaways to only 22 takeaways as well as 43 hits and 34 shot blocks, showing off his defensive capabilities. Without Dream’s selfless two way play, the team would have allowed many more goals on the season. Congrats to Velveteen Dream! @thedangazone The sixth award tonight is the Alonzo Garbonzo Award for the rookie who played well on the ice and had a good locker room presence!
Our nominees are…
Adam Friedland ®
Dwight Knight ®
Vitek Vitecek ®
The Alonzo Garbonzo Award for the best rookie goes to Dwight Knight! This one comes as no surprise as Dwight Knight has truly been a lightning rod for the team in season 53. On the ice, Knight was able to put up 11 goals and 10 assists for a total of 21 points, a solid start to his career. His energy, positivity, and most importantly his elite shitposting has been an absolute joy in the locker room and Dwight Knight is truly at home with the Kraken. Congrats to Dwight Knight! @hockeyiscool The seventh award tonight is the Michael Fitted Award for the player who best demonstrates what it means to be a Kraken!
Our nominees are…
Adam Friedland ®
Dwight Knight ®
Jimmy Wagner
Velveteen Dream
The Michael Fitted Award, awarded to the player who best demonstrates what it means to be a Kraken goes to none other than Jimmy Wagner! Arguably the most important award that we give out on award night, the Michael Fitted award is a testament to everything that we value in members of the Carolina Kraken. A true leader and a beacon of energy for our team, Jimmy Wagner brings everything to the table and more. Wagner has always gone above and beyond in being a true staple of our locker room and helping others with builds, updates, point tasks, or any day to day things. Wags is truly an exceptional member of our team and an exceptional member of our community who I know will continue to do great things. Congrats Jimmy Wagner! @sve7en Thanks Trella. Before we move on to the final award of the night, I wanted to take a moment to recognize an individual achievement not recognized in this way before this season. As the SMJHL awards committee began their work last season, they wanted to have each GM write in a nominee from their team for the Vyacheslav Onoprienko Award for the most underrated player. When that was opened up to the rest of the Council, I snapped off this person's name. A rookie winger who, despite spending almost the entire season on the third line with two other rookies, racked up 15 points and a massive 54 hits and 85 shots blocked, the latter of those stats being top 5 in the league for forwards, while only accumulating 8 penalty minutes. A rookie winger who, despite being picked late into the 4th round, embraced everything that the SMJHL and Carolina locker room had to offer, being constantly active, playing games with teammates, and contributing loads to the energy required to make the rebuilding year feasible. As announced well before tonight, Carolina’s nominee for the Vyacheslav Onoprienko Award, our underrated player of S53, was none other than…
Panda Panico!
Our final award tonight is the Kurtis Hunter Award for the team’s most valuable player.
Our nominees are…
Ambacas Cuddles
Frans Eller
Jimmy Wagner
Velveteen Dream
The Kurtis Hunter Award for the team’s most valuable player goes to…
Frans Eller!
@Ace
Eller was monumental in both being a veteran leader and a rock of our defense. His league best GSAA and Game Rating, as well as his best among starters save percentage are testaments of this. There was no player in the league more capable of stealing games than Eller, but he was also consistently good through his 40 games played. Every time he got the call opposing teams and fans had to worry if this was going to be one of his show stopping performances, and the effect that that has on one's own team is immeasurable. His presence elevated the roster of skaters around him, and it was because of him that analysts even thought Carolina would take games off Detroit in the playoffs. He was without a doubt the most valuable and impactful player on the Kraken roster this past season. ![]() SMJHL GM Littleton Award Winner 06-17-2020, 04:54 PMMegaSkuci Wrote: :( The voting doesn't recognize the value you've provided, even though you still earned multiple nominations. You almost won the rookie scoring title on a team that couldn't score goals on the regular, and your rise from 3rd round draft pick to top 10 draft pick is a great example of the energy you bring to a locker room and passion you have for the league being recognized by SHL GMs. You're also in contention for the scoring title now, and I expect similar things from you the rest of your career <3 ![]() Registered Posting Freak ![]() Registered Member 06-17-2020, 05:13 PMsve7en Wrote:I love you too Seven <306-17-2020, 04:54 PMMegaSkuci Wrote: :( ![]() Donators Donated ![]() SMJHL GM Littleton Award Winner ![]() Registered Posting Freak
