Post Season Interview with Phineas
#1

Hello Rabble Rousers and Hockey aficionados alike.  It’s been a while, but what can we say when there are just so many things to do here in Montreal!  This may be our last broadcast as our managers have found out that we have been spending too much time living the life out here rather than following out prospect of the year, Phineas Gold.  But we’re back with another interview with our golden boy as we wait for the 2nd match in this series between the Flacons and the Militia to start.  We’re going to be talking about some of the ups and downs Phineas has experienced going into this playoff series
.
Hello Phineas! It’s been a while since we last talked, how are you feeling?

Well mentally it’s been pretty challenging.  Playing 50 games in the regular season and then going into a guaranteed playoffs has its advantages and disadvantages.  For one, it is nice knowing that every team has a shot at the cup here in the juniors.  Even with the guaranteed spot, it is a climb all season and as hard it is for the players it is equally if not more hard for the GMs.  It seems easy for the players, we skate and improve while just trying to secure minor grabs for money here and there.  After a whole season I have to say that our locker room has been really top notch.  We have a good assortment of people with wildly different experiences.  Yet when it comes down to it we all get together and I haven’t seen anyone get into fights.  It’s mostly the rookies who are vocal when it comes down to it, but our experienced veterans show up from time to time.  It has been a really great atmosphere to grown into this league.

We want to take some time to break down your experiences in the first playoff matchup against the Raiders. It was a tough series but you got to play some great parts out there on the ice.

Well guys what can I say?  I think the highlight for me really happened towards the end of the regular season.  I got to switch back to left wing and moved up to the third line to get more minutes and show off my shooting a little bit more.  We struggled at first to find a new line chemistry and eventually with Heikki as my center moving into the playoffs we found our stride. Each game we’ve gone out there as team and really tried our best to just paly a good game.  I put up a great 2 goals and 1 assist with one game winning goal that really makes me happy.  If you look back at the game it was really just about good positioning.  I was in the right place at the right time.  I was playing a pretty physical game that series and look to continue it into this series against the Falcons.  As a team, we’ve been training pretty hard to get our hits in when we see them and to take our chances.  I like how I ended the regular season with 85 shots on net.  I tried my hardest to just go out there.  If you put enough shots on the goalie they are bound to make a mistake.  I would like to say that my failed shots every game opened up chances for our elite scorers to go out there and make the team proud.  Hopefully next season I’ll be able to shine a bit more.

How does it feel to be skating in the playoffs?

It is a great feeling guys.  Just being in the playoffs is awe inspiring, but to take a series as an up and coming team feels really great.  As a team, the Militia are definitely still rebuilding and the rookies are still getting stronger every day.  If we can keep our chemistry going we should be a dangerous force next season even with the departure of some of our top talent.  I thought I would be nervous at first, but the first goal I scored really helped shake that tension after the 1-5 loss to Halifax.  It felt good to rally back and take the series to a game 7 where we won by a scant goal.  Bring on the Falcons!

We saw the your office tried a few different way to market your brand.  It’s good to know that they focus on skating development as well as personal development.  What worked and what didn’t work this season?

Well I think the best thing that helped me this season was our sporadic interviews.  It was nice to break down my games and my thoughts for each little section we went over.  I had a great time being able to come up with all sorts for fun tidbits for you guys and the viewers back home.  My dog, Ice, still misses when you guys showed up with a bag full of bacon for him.  I swear he sits by my apartment door sometimes expecting you guys to show up again.  I think what failed was that cooking segment that the home office sanctioned for me to start.  It was supposed to be a little fun introduction into the team and their hobbies, but was ultimately nixed when different Montreal residents kept calling in about why I was spending time not training on the ice.  Apparently people aren’t too happy to get to know their players do anything else besides skate on the ice and talk about being a pro hockey player.  To the fans out there that enjoyed that segment and would like to know more you can always reach out to me for some of my favorite cooking recipes.

This is definitely sad news! Why I made that cake just last night with no experience in baking and it was a blast.  Everyone who came to eat it said it was probably the most divine cake they’ve ever tasted.  It’s a shame that your viewers won’t get any more instruction from you.
I think the next time we will catch up is during the S50 SHL draft where we will be eagerly waiting with you to hear news of which team has taken interest in you.  As of now has any team piqued your interest?

I have had a conversation with a few teams so far and some are definitely getting on my good side.  I won’t say what teams right now but I do have a clear favorite as of this interview.  As for the draft itself, we will just have to see when the playoffs are over.  I can’t really focus on anything else at the moment.  Our GM has been working us hard and we are doing 2 games a day plus some slight warmups in between.  Speaking of games, looks like were about to start our pre game ritual so I have to bounce.

Thanks for the interview as always Phineas, we wish you luck out there today and know that your fans are behind you 100% of the way.
And to those fans that are watching or listening to our broadcast today.  This has been another interview in our extended series where we follow prospect Phineas Gold on his journey in his first season in the SHL.  We look forward to experiencing all of his up and downs with you.  As always, we wait for the announcers to yell out our favorite slogan.

PHINEAS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALD
