S51 WFT #4 - Make The Case

The S51 Four Star Cup finals will be Carolina vs. Anchorage

Hard agree. My boys in Anchorage and in Carolina have been killing it and I couldn't be happier. Seeing my Dragon rooks go up against my old team, it will be hard to cheer for either side specifically. Best of luck to both teams!

Well, even if they were far and beyond the best two teams in the Js, we all know how that goes with simon right? And even these two teams being far and away the best in the league isn't necesarily true, as while Carolina has a comfortable lead and are already a lock for 1st, Anchorage is far from comfortable on 2nd and while I personally expect Carolina to go all the way and defend the title, the 2nd team is not that clear and I think it's going to be a fight for who that is - Anchorage, Halifax or Lethbridge, not even counting in the potentional challenge from a surging team from behind, like a red hot Kelowna or other team on a hot streak.

Nicholas Williams is the rightful MVP of S51

Against, earlier in the season I think I would've agreed with this but due to Tony Pepperonis dominant performance to end the season I'd have to give the edge to him as I believe he's performed as good if not better than Williams and has less support from his team offensively

The two best teams in the league are both from the Western Conference

For; Not only are both the Blizzard and Specters on top of the standings they are also the two best defensive teams in the SHL. Let alone one of the top 5 offensive producers as well. The western conference final could be a dozy.

Against! The reason why Edmonton and New Orleans are having such great seasons in comparison to the rest of the league is because all of the league's bottom feeders are in the West. These two teams are facing easier competition more often than the teams from the East, leading to inflated point totals.

Sour skittles are better than regular skittles

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! You're gonna sit here and tell Thicc Cheezy that when you eat skittles you want an easy, sugary experience? Absolutely not. You want to throw one of these bad boys in your mouth and have a little plain shoot through your mouth quickly. Eating sour skittles builds character, and those who only eat regular skittles have the pain tolerance of a child. Grow up

Against. While I think there is a strong chance one of these teams makes the finals, I think there's an equally good chance one of them doesn't make it with the way the sim works. I think the finals will be one of these two and one of the other eight teams.

The West Kendall Platoon are having the luckiest season in recent memory
Against

How can you say this after watching Hamilton sit atop the league this season or remembering the Barracuda riding to 60 points on the back of Benjamin Blue as recently as the S40s? Or Toronto making the playoffs as a one line show last year, and the rest of the team being inactive and undeserving? West Kendall is not leading their division or having 60 points, nothing ridiculous like that. I doubt they go far in the playoffs even if they make it, a first round exit is probable. Their strong GMs eight lots of experience have kept them in the race more than any luck or ridiculous aspects. We have seen much stronger overperformances in the past, teams projected to be dead last and struggle to get 20 wins that can’t seem to lose a game and take a commanding lead in their division.

West Kendall may not even make the playoffs, as I hinted at earlier. With a handful of games to go for each team, they are barely clinging to fifth place in their division and the sixth and seventh place teams are both only 1 point behind them. They have some must win games against the sixth place Tampa Barracuda that if they lose, will ensure that they are eliminated. I don’t see much luck in being a bubble team that is really struggling down the stretch. They’re on a five game losing streak currently; how is that viewed as good or lucky? Quite the opposite in my eyes, nothing can go right for them lately. The start of the season looked promising but everything has corrected itself in the latter half of the year. Sure, they’ve been letting up a lot more goals than they score according to their goal differential and yet they are a winning franchise, so I suppose there is some luck involved with having a record that’s even above .500. But that to me just shows inconsistency, that some nights they go to compete and others they just get steamrolled. And it shows even their wins are close on the scoreboard, there’s some luck in getting the right bounces there but not enough. Their record is not all that great though; it’s practically dead even and they could still finish under .500. They are at .511 now, which is just a fraction above that dead even mark. Certainly not as much as many other teams that were even more lacking in top tier talent but had the blessing of fickle Simon. STHS is a random sim engine with ridiculously lucky teams but I don’t see West Kendall being an example of it. They are right where I’d assumed they’d be with their mediocre half way in between a rebuild roster. And I think that the slight overperformance may even correct itself as they could end up missing the playoffs.

Against. Lethbridge will be there, the most complete team in the league. Capped players across the board, 10 total all at the 425 cap. A goalie, 4 defensemen, and 5 forwards. 2 centremen.

For.

Lets face it, any team that has me as it's leading scorer is not that good. We have a great defensive corps and a few okay forwards and that's it. Early in the season we had Bojo winning us some games but as of late he has a tendency to lose big. At the start of the season looking at the Index I expected two things, me to stop scoring a bunch and the team falling back down to the bottom of the standings, and it seems like one of those things only half happened.

Regular skittles are boring, you need something that will walk right up to you and punch you in the mouth. That's what you get when you eat sour skittles. Although berry skittles are the best type of skittles, and I won't change my mind on that.

Anything sour is way better than the sickeningly sweet taste of regular skittles. Sourness also makes it easier to chew in my opinion, doesn't seem likes it's as much work.
