14. Written, up to 5 TPE Pick up to 5 Challenge Cup related topics to write about! Each topic is worth 1 TPE. Each answer must be 50+ words to qualify.
1. Head GMs JayWhy and Grapehead have been GMing for a while, whereas Co GMs Luketd and DaftRaincloud are newer to management - which team's front office staff (including coaches) do you think will provide a strategic edge (lol as if such a thing exists in STHS) in this series?
2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?
3. The Rage and the Pride have, in my opinion at least, two of the best logos in the entire SHL. Which team's logo do you like more and why?
4. What is your favorite player name on either of these two teams and why? (not favorite player/user, just focusing on their player name)
5. Would you rather: (a) a chainsaw lesson with JayWhy, (b) a private Gritty meet-and-greet for you and Luke, (c) an all-you-can-eat grape buffet experience with Grapehead, or (d) an hour session where DaftRaincloud shows you everything from his internet history?

1. Not biased at all but I believe San Francisco and grapehead have the advantage. Why? Well simple, the username itself. Let's go back to the 14th century where the word 'grape' was created, shall we? Grape, 'a smooth-skinned juicy light green or deep red to purplish black berry eaten dried or fresh as a fruit or fermented to produce wine.' Deriving from an Old French word, 'graper' or from Germany meaning 'catch with a hook'. Wow. Now when you combine that with the word 'head' which was used firstly in the nautical sense back in Anglo-Saxon times referring to a ship's figurehead. So combining both of these words 'grapehead', is basically a fleet of ships containing wine and fruit which is not only a basic white girl dream but enough to demolish JayWhy and his team.
2. STHS really takes into consideration the ratio in which coaches send their lines out shift by shift so let's start there. You want your best players on the ice more, no? As long as the players have the endurance to back them up, which all players of this caliber should have, then I believe San Fran's 40-40-15 is superior in this sense. I can understand JayWhy for being more passive and allowing his bottom forwards to see more ice team but this is the fucking cup yo. You got to leave it all on the ice and I would want my best players out there as much as possible to try and bring home a title.
3. I do like both, the Pride logo and Manhattan logo but I am actually partial to the Blizzard logo as my favorite in the league. I know I know, why like the logo of such a crap organization, I know. And yes, it hurts me to say but the shading of those lighter/darker blues and the contrast of the yellow eyes frankly give me goosebumps. I am often unable to sleep at night thinking of what angel created this masterpiece for our great league. The wolf is also a top contender for my favorite animal so bonus points for that as well. The white on the snout, to the sea blue around the eyes, to the darker blue around the top of the head. Somebody stop me!  Blizzard Look at it...look at it! Genius.
4. Chris Partridge. They could make a movie about him.."The inactive goalie who somehow fights his way and leads his team to the Challenge Cup without a care in the world." That's the goalie I strive to be. Ha! I told you ma, laziest can pay off! When you hear the name partridge does it strike fear in your hearts!? Or does it, like me, make you think of that Christmas song, a partridge in a pear tree. Well for me it's the latter. Could it have been a better name, perhaps 'Tree Partridge' or even 'Pear Partridge'. Maybe. Could it have been 'Cillian Partridge'? Killer. But we have Chris. Boring ol' Chris Partridge. And that's how I think San Fran looks at this goalie. Not active, won't talk in the team discord, doesn't update, slowly regressing, boring old Chris Partridge. It's alright Chris..hopefully Cillian will relieve you of your duties soon enough.
5. Give me the grapes. A. I know how to use a chainsaw as my dad almost killed me trying to saw down a monster tree in our backyard when I was a kid. Told me to 'grip it and rip it' it get it going. I now live life in a similar fashion. B. Gritty, Gritty, Gritty. The viral mascot known for mischievousness and stupidity. Well I'm a Pens fan and if I see Gritty in a back alley it's bad news for Gritty. D. I am afraid to look at my internet history. Can't wait for my girlfriend to stumble upon my search history later when she goes onto our computer. 'sim hockey', 'grape meaning', 'Pornhub', 'word head derived from', 'Partriddge in a pear tree xmas song', 'Pornhub', 'Gritty'.

The arenas in San Francisco and New York certainly don't need any gimmicks to get people into the stadium for the series, but the arenas want to make sure they're pulling out all the stops on the big stage. Help the concessions department of one of these two teams develop a new product, with marketing specifically pertaining to this finals series, to be sold at the arena during the finals. Describe the product and the marketing in 150 words or create a promotional poster showing the product, its name, the price, etc.

I work in the Marketing department of my company so I should be decent at this one. Ok hear me out...actual grapeheads for the San Francisco Pride. To look something like this:
This is just a rough draft. We outsource it to China, have these made super cheap. We use that cheap, hot, itchy material almost like that sweater your grandma gave you for Christmas when you were a kid. Charge maybe $7 with tax total and put them at all concession stands in the arena. Inside of the hat comes a box of grapehead candy which can be eaten as an in game snack or thrown at the opposing team. GM Grapehead will be available after the home games for autographs and pictures which we'll of course charge out the ass for. Proceeds will go directly to the team to increase funding for scouts, arena upgrades and overall marketing of the Pride. We'll make SportsCenter not top 10 for this awful product design and boom we've gone viral. Portnoy will be reaching out to us from BarstoolSports and just like that, SHL is on the map. The Pride will jump to being the most talked about California team going forward.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

With most goalies it's all psychological. Cillian Kavanagh is no different. This offseason there's going to be alot of focus on shifting roles from a backup goalie to a starting goaltender in the SMJHL. The Knights had a 2nd round playoff exit that was disappointing for our organization. We're losing key players to the SHL but getting stronger with our depth guys. We have a great young defensive core that can help us win those close 1 goal games. For me personally, i'm going to take some time off in the earlier portion of the offseason focusing on my life away from hockey. The second half of the offseason i'll spend preparing myself mentally and physically for the upcoming, S53. I have a trip planned to Ireland to visit with family and enjoy the finer things in life before getting back to work. My girlfriend and I were thinking about doing a little traveling and seeing parts of the world we've never been to before. When I get back to work, I look forward to a clear head and a fully rested self. I think it'll be a smooth transition to a starting goaltender position as I have prepared for this role for 2 seasons now. Luca has taught me a great deal of what it takes to be a starter and I look forward to leading my team to a Four Star Cup in the upcoming season.

The SHL is taking a stand and trying to do its part in reducing its carbon footprint. One of the proposed ideas is to eliminate back and forth air travel during the Challenge Cup and Four Star Cup finals and instead hold all 4-7 games in one neutral, rotating location a la the Super Bowl. Are you FOR or AGAINST this idea? Why?

This is intriguing. It would be a great opportunity for the respective fan bases to show their support by traveling to a neutral arena to cheer on their team. However it would also make it difficult for many hometown fans having to pay travel fares and to take time off work perhaps to attend these games. I wouldn't be opposed to this idea for the SHL but perhaps we try it on a season by season basis. We would work to determine how many fans of each team were able to make it out and show support, what travel costs/room and board and if this is beneficial to continue. The arena would not be as loud and create a playoff atmosphere with more neutral fans from the stadium area attending. In turn however, this would level the playing field and would not give either team an edge depending on if they were home or away.

By now, you're probably familiar with the attributes on FHM, and you likely have some sense of what type of build you're going to be aiming for with your player. What one attribute are you going to focus on most? Of all the attributes in the game, what is your player going to strive to be the absolute best at? Why are you picking that specific attribute above all others?

Glove, blocker and positioning are my top 3 that i'm going to focus the most on. I want to get those maxed out as soon as I can. The next most important attributes to me are reflexes, rebound and recovery. I'm going to prioritize these as 2nd most important tier of attributes which are going to be 1 or 2 points max, behind my first tier. I believe similar to STHS it's important to create a well balanced player and to not have any blatant weaknesses. We'll have to see how this plays out though. Looking forward to the change and hey, can't be much worse than the randomness of our current system!

There was a young man from the UK,
Who felt that he just needed to say,
@hotdog  makes him mad
and often just sad
and he needs to stop wearing that toupé

There was a team based in toronto
who just didnt know when they should go
and tank for some picks
so that they could mix
their failure up with a cup window

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

Tony Ford, as ever, is looking forward to chilling out in his pool in LA (the one thing he doesn't miss about his time in anchorage is the weather) and getting in some intense training to come back stronger than ever in the new season. After a short period where rumours were flying about whether he would consider free agency, they were put to rest with his contract re-signing, but that doesn't mean he's going to be complacent. He's looking to mix up his strengths this offseason, transitioning to a more defensive style to see if he can use it to bring greater success to himself and his team coming into a season where they should be pushing for a cup. but he'll also spend a fair bit of time out enjoying the vibrant nightlife (getting absolutely floored) - that's just what life is for... Please don't tell his coach about that...

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?

Clearly LAP have the best odds because Tony Ford is gonna hone his skills going into next season and come out of it as the best defenseman in the league. No doubt. You all need to believe it. Behind them, NEW have made the solid addition of some kirby guy (isnt that the pink one from mario) and look very strong, despite missing the playoffs this season (one might think they should rebuild but apparently not) - The worst odds have to go to Toronto, who will run out of luck one day and actually start tanking, followed by Tampa who are Tampa and therefore awful and a few other bottom feeders. Chicago are going to be on their way down, mark my words, so I would put their odds down there with Tampa. Also Hamilton cos we all know hamilton suck and will never win the cup again.

Clearly Manhattan have the better staff. Grapehead and JayWhy may be fairly evenly matched, but Luketd has way more experiences than daft, as much as i like the guy, so Manhattan have the edge here. But ultimately, there's only so much a coach can do against the wonders of STHRandom.

2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?

I think that to win a challenge cup, you need to have consistency throughout your lines. The San Francisco Pride just don't back their lower lines enough for them to come through, and so I can't see that being an advantage. These strategies favour Manhattan, as that third line could well make all the difference.

3. The Rage and the Pride have, in my opinion at least, two of the best logos in the entire SHL. Which team's logo do you like more and why?

For a start, this is a whack opinion. (obviously the best logo in the SHL is LAP, that goes without saying) - these logos, while not the worst, are aright, but the SFP one is definitely better (actually strike that Manhattan's is garbage) - SFP win in 5 on the logo series, unfortunately that doesn't go for actual games.

4. What is your favorite player name on either of these two teams and why? (not favorite player/user, just focusing on their player name)

It's gotta be rainbow dash, I mean not only is it colourful and bringing happy images to the forefront of anyones mind, it's also just a great name, describing the players style, and their user's flare - I can't think of a better named player in the series, or many better on any team in the SHL.

5. Would you rather: (a) a chainsaw lesson with JayWhy, (b) a private Gritty meet-and-greet for you and Luke, © an all-you-can-eat grape buffet experience with Grapehead, or (d) an hour session where DaftRaincloud shows you everything from his internet history?

Erm. As someone with a passing interest in psychology, ill go with d), as it will give an interesting insight into the human condition. It will also probably scar me for life, but that's something I can deal with. I think. Maybe this wasnt such a good idea after all.

This reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S52 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?
This alternate reality is oddly similar to the last alternate reality I wrote about. In this alternate reality, Manhattan doesn't have the absolute best penalty kill in history, and they don't beat Buffalo in 6 games. Instead, Buffalo is able to capitalize on the powerplay, allwoing them to squeak out the series in 7 games, and is instead the one facing SFP. As Buffalo is the best team in the league, they beat the absolute breaks off of SFP, and begin their dynasty. However, this beatdown lasts the full 7 games, allowing prospects on each team to receive some ice time. Additionally, St. Louis beats the absolute breaks off of Anaheim in 4 games winning the 4-Star Cup, allowing myself, Aron Hernadivic, to be called up in time for the SHL Finals to start. Aron goes on to do absolutely nothing cause I'm an 800 TPE scrub, but Buffalo wins the Challenge Cup, allowing myself to have a threesome with both trophies! What a universe. (165 words)

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?
Realistically, the overwhelming favourite to win the Cup next season should be NEW. With FHM actually rewarding elite players, and NEW having the highest average-TPE roster, as well as adding in Kirkby, they should head into the season with the best odds. However, this is NEW we're talking about, so they're still likely gonna somehow finish behind Toronto in the standings. Other potential favourites should be NOLA, and MAN, as they have fairly balanced rosters throughout the team. Cain should actually be good in FHM, and not slightly worse than goalies with half his TPE, and MAN has a very deep roster on all 3 levels. However, the favourite should be Buffalo. Why, you may ask? Well, why not? Buff is one of the top teams per TPE, has GMs that actually know how to get the best out of their players, and are gonna call up 4 A+ level prospects. That's a tough pill for the league to swallow. (160)

My player will likely be a mix of Kapanen and Bergeron which is quite the interesting mix, so we will see. I expect for my guy to be able to fly down the wing and punish slow-footed defenders like Kapanen does, while being a dominant two-way presence like Bergeron. With that in mind, I will likely focus and invest heavily on training Aron to become one of the best, fastest skaters in the game like Kapanen, pushing it up to the 18-20 range. This, with monster acceleration, will mean I'll always have a case of the zoomies, and will be able to skrt by everybody whenever I want. I will be the road runner on steroids and/or your cat at 2 AM. (123 words)

1. I think MAN, JY and LukeTD have the edge over Graphead and DaftRaincloud because LukeTD stands for Luke The Dog, meaning Luke is a dog. A 'dog' refers to someone who is constantly getting after it, which means that Luke won't sleep until he's found the ultimate strategies that lead to Manhattan cruising to an easy series victory. (58)
2. As a Leafs fan in the playoffs, I have been burned one too many times by Mike Babcock riding the third line when down a goal in Game 7 against a huge rival, so I'm gonna say Manhattan's approach is worse, SFPs is better. Ride the top dogs that got u to the playoffs, dont put out ancient patrick marleau types when you need a goal. This one is all SFP. (71)
3. SFPs logo looks like a caricature of a lion you would get at some shitty theme park, so yeah this one is pretty easy. Manhattan's isn't great either, so PT Director we got some things to discuss, but it doesn't look like something you got from Darien Lake. The Rage also have a lot of subtle design references in their logo, so I'm gonna go with Manhattan here. (68)
4. My favourite name, on either the Rage or the Pride, would have to be Scottey Crawfling. Why Scottey Crawfling you may ask? Well, Crawfling sort of resembles crawfish, and crawfish are cool lookin mini lobsters. Also, Crawdaunt the pokemon, is a G, and Crawfling makes me think of that. Hearing his name also brings back the legendary S45 playoffs, when he uh did the dirty on Detroit. That's always a good memory to reflect back on. (76)
5. SIGN ME THE F UP FOR C, Grape is a fun guy, someone who talks every now and then in the Czechia IIHF servers. He seems like he'd be a good person to travel with, and I quite enjoy grapes. Grapes are severely underrated, so going on a trip with a noted grape expert seems like I would learn a lot. not to mention that you can make lots and lots of stuff from grapes, like red wine, white wine, rosee, ice wine and more wine! Wine's a winner!

In a different reality the New Orleans Specters would not have lost to San Francisco in game 7, yet another game 7 loss for the franchise. For a team plagued with big losses in big games maybe in another reality they do not have such awful luck when it comes to big games in big moments. For the east side the New England Wolfpack would have actually made the playoffs with one of the better rosters in the league and would have made the finals for a return to their old glory days. The two would face off in a battle of new world new cities for who could be crowned the best new city of them all in hockey. Of course New England has had enough sports glory lately and the obvious feel good story would be the Specters being able to win it all in their 7th season and then throw the biggest party in NOLA right after mardi gras.

Odds are definitely fickle every season and who has the best or worst odds have no meaning over how well those teams may or may not do. That being said I do believe the worst odds is probably pretty easy to guess next season. The Toronto North Stars have a very young team still in their rebuild and while they definitely have a bright future ahead of them, next season is not that future coming to fruition just yet. I expect Toronto to be extremely bad, and probably for the best as they continue to rack up great draft picks and build the team for the future. The best odds could go to a few teams I'd believe and would probably be tied between them. New England, Manhattan, New Orleans, and San Francisco should all have very solid teams going into next season and any combination of the four would not be a surprise for top odds.

There were a lot of attributes to pick from going into making a build for FHM, which is definitely exciting. The one attribute I'm focused on during my career in juniors has actually been 3. I have my max attributes tied with defensive read, passing, and checking. The plan is to be a solid 2 way guy but more so defensively focused. I want to shutdown every other line I'm out against with aggressive forecheck and solid positioning. When I get called up to NOLA I will continue that process as well and be a more shadow type of player. Focusing on defensive read and positioning.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

There's a lot of things the Velveteen Dream looks forward to during each offseason. Relaxing is always the top of the Dream's list and he will 100 percent get as much as rest as he needs. Now there will also be time for training because the Dream has high aspirations in this league and he knows that without training no one can be the greatest, not even one as talented naturally as the Dream is. The Dream plans to spend a mix of time in Carolina with his juniors teammates, New Orleans with his future teammates and pro trainers, and at his home in Dreamland. Between the 3 the Dream believes he can get in his proper training as well as creating some chemistry with current and future teammates. He also needs to show them all who the future star is so they can prepare their awe inspired faces now. And who doesn't want to party with the Dream in NOLA of all places.

1. While both sets of GMs are great and I have no doubt that the series could go either way if I had to choose one of the sets to get a strategic edge it would be JayWhy and Luke. JayWhy has been around since the beginning and as a former simmer he knows STHS very well ( as well as you can with the coin flips) and I think just his time alone gives them the edge but also the fact that Luke has put in lots of time for MAN but also his time in VAN as a GM shows they can get it done.
105 words

2. I think the time on ice distribution depends heavily on the style of team you are trying to run and your roster configuration. Manhattan has a lot more depth than SFP in my opinion so it's helpful for them to be able to run 3 solid lines and put pressure on no matter who is on the ice. They also can put 3 of their top forwards at each center position allowing them great depth down the middle. That being said STHS has shown it doesn't care about depth as much and SFP can load up their top guys on the ice and try to out muscle MAN no matter who they're putting out at the time.

There were a lot of long and competitive series where they all so far have gone to at least 5 games. And the second round being extra crazy with no series going to fewer than 6 games!

First off we have the the bye round where Buffalo took it home in 7 games against Toronto together with Los Angeles in 5 against Calgary.

In the second round Hamilton took out Buffalo in 6. Chicago kicked out Manhattan in 6. San Francisco ended Calgary in 7. And Edmonton removed New Orleans from contention, also in 6.

And coming through the third round Hamilton moved on against Chicago in 6 games while Edmonton left San Francisco out to freeze after 7 excruciating games.

So as you can see, we have a repeat of last season's Challenge Cup final series! At least from our reality's last season.

Sven is quite excited about the rule changes that will be implemented in the league during the off season. He is definitely gonna make sure to stay in shape. The early exit from the playoffs this year is still a little sour for him, but the rookies in Vancouver have impressed and he cannot wait to see what next season will bring.

Sven will focus mostly on balancing out his game and play style. Up until now he has tried to be a shooter first but what he really wants to do is play a balanced game, focusing both on offense and defense. He is working with Vancouver's defensive coach to improve his positioning and play-reading skills. And so far he feels like his overall game has really improved. He is out to make his mark on the SMJHL league next season as it is rumored that it might be his last before being called up.

There once was a team from Vancouver
Which not many teams could maneuver
They keep us in suspense
Without an offense
They might just be playing hungover

They found an exploit
And it wasn't Detroit
It was Hamilton who made Simon boring

The arenas in San Francisco and New York certainly don't need any gimmicks to get people into the stadium for the series, but the arenas want to make sure they're pulling out all the stops on the big stage. Help the concessions department of one of these two teams develop a new product, with marketing specifically pertaining to this finals series, to be sold at the arena during the finals. Describe the product and the marketing in 150 words or create a promotional poster showing the product, its name, the price, etc.
The San Francisco Pride's marketing department goes all in on becoming progressive and politically correct by using their team name to promote LGBTQ pride. For the Challenge Cup final series all players and staff will be boasting a complete rainbow themed outfit. From the skates all the way up to the helmets. Fans will be able to buy the rainbow jerseys online and at the kiosks in the arena, and anyone who wears one of these jerseys to a home game will be given a voucher for a free hot dog.

Music from Freddie Mercury and Elton John will be blasting non-stop from the second the first puck drop until the winning team lifts the cup. They have even installed a digital rainbow that reaches over the ice which will be lit and sparkle every time San Francisco scores a goal. As a final touch they've replaced their goal song with a burly voice saying "Marriage is a right for all! And we just married that puck to the back of the net!".

I'm gonna go with the Manhattan Rage's front office. While Luketd is newer to the scene, JayWhy has the multi-year experience in the league to really make a difference. He knows what works and what does not. And with a mentor like JayWhy, Luketd has the best GM training a co-GM can ask for.

Over time, I believe a balanced time share between lines are important to not overwork certain players, but when it comes to a short 7-game series I strongly believe focusing as much as possible on your top players will give you an edge. You want your best people on the ice as much as possible as they do make a difference.

Quote:3. The Rage and the Pride have, in my opinion at least, two of the best logos in the entire SHL. Which team's logo do you like more and why?
While both teams have nice logos, for me the decision is pretty easy. I really like Manhattan's logo, more so than San Francisco's. It is just a genius logo. It contains famous Manhattan building(s), the M, and of course the big bad-ass bull which are known to "rage" when they see red*. It's a more complex and interesting logo than Pride's.

There are some good contenders out there for best name, but I have to go with Nathan Explosion. Like, how cool is it to have "explosion" as your last name? It is like when people say "danger is my middle name" to sound tough, but for Nathan it is actually true that he is literally an explosion!

I do not really want to see anyone's browser history, and while a Gritty meet-and-greet is tempting, I'm choosing the grape buffet. Mostly because I love grapes, and I would be really curious how they would make a grape buffet look like. But also because I'm sure Grapehead would have a lot of good stories to eat grapes over.

The reality that I would want is that the New Orleans Spectors didn't blow it in the semi-finals and they would have closed out that series in Game 6.  We always seem to choke in game sevens so it would be great to never play in one of those again.  In this reality we blew out the San Francisco Pride in that game six.  I do not mind much who we play from the East, but since SDCore is my boss I will say Chicago made it into the finals in this alternate reality.  New Orleans wouldn't even play around with getting close to a game seven in this new Challenge Cup matchup, and they would sweep the Chicago Syndicate in four games.  Jimmy Slothface would score a 100 goals per game in the series, and he would be awarded with the key to every city in North America.  The Spectors would hold a grand parade in the city and it would be bigger than Mardi Gras.  It would have been a fitting send off for SimonT.

I actually had to go check my update to answer this, and it looks like my highest attribute right now is Offensive Read, followed by Stamina of all things.  I do not really know what I am doing with FHM despite owning the damn thing.  I really just looked at builds of existing NHL players in FHM and tried to make an informed decision around that, but I have no idea if it will pan out.  I think Offensive Read will be good because it will allow my overall offensive game to flourish.  At least I think it will?  And stamina will be good because it will make sure I can keep playing at a high level late into games (and possibly seasons?).  I do not know if FHM degrades your skill levels based on stamina, but it seems like a decent bet that a good player would need good stamina in hockey.  I am hoping this engine is more lifelike than SimonT was.

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?

This is going to be tough to answer because I think FHM will throw the Casino and fantasy hockey into a bit of chaos since it will be tough to know how teams are going to perform under the new sim engine.  I would have to give the best odds to the New Orleans Spectors because I am an unashamed homer.  We have consistently been one of the better teams in the Western Conference, making the playoffs every single year of our existence and performing pretty strongly in every regular season.  As per the recently released prospect rankings by the great Luke, we also have a bevy of good prospects in our system that will be joining us in the upcoming seasons to further solidify the base we already have with veterans.  I think we also have smart members so we will be able to handle the transition to FHM well (at least I am crossing my fingers that we do).  Some other teams do have people who test like crazy but I think we can make it work.  As far as the worst odds I would say.... Toronto I guess?  No disrespect but I think they are still in the rebuilding stage.  Maybe?  I think it will be tougher in FHM to have a good team without a bunch of active players so I think Toronto may take a season or two to get adjusted to the new sim.  I actually really don't know that is a guess.  I think I saw someone say in a FHM sim the team didn't do great, but who knows what builds that person was testing with.  But I had to go with someone, sorry Toronto.

I would say that Dominic Montgomery and Leo Lockhart are going to have many individual awards in their future.  They are coming into their primes of their careers and they are already fantastic defenders for the San Francisco Pride.  Even just this past season Leo put up an insane amount of power play goals from the blue line for San Francisco.  It will be tough with both of them battling each other for awards as they play the same position, but I am sure that they can learn to share all of their future accolades.  It seems like the Pride have a very good young core moving forward and these two will be instrumental to their success!

Why?

I am for the idea, anything that can help the environment is pretty cool to me. One draw back is that it would be expensive for fans of each team to fly to whatever the destination is and watch multiple games and such. On the other hand, it would be a very nice vacation for some people if they can afford it, but I would like to see if it forces some fans out of the equation. But there could be a lot of festivities at a destination series, and I think the Super Bowl shows how big of an event it could really be. And if it lowers our carbon footprint I am for it because larger corporations should be doing these sort of things since they create the most waste.

I like the San Francisco Pride's logo the best of the two, mostly because I like the colors a lot more than Manhattan's. Also I like the way the Lion is done versus the Bull on the Rage's side. The colors work well with the overall logo for the Pride and I think it is a good brand for ice hockey.

Task 1 (3 TPE, 3 Total) – There’s another reality out there that negates STHS fuckery altogether, and pretends it’s a good sim that doesn’t make you want to kill yourself on the regular. In that scenario, we’d be watching the Manhattan Rage taking on the New Orleans Specters in the championship. STHS likes to makes dumb things like inferior teams defeating better ones when they’re up 3-2, but that isn’t the case here. It would be a fantastic throwback to the St. Louis vs Vancouver Four Star Cup playoff series where Joe K would take on Luke in a battle of wits and testing and insanity. While I’m completely biased, I think these two teams were the best two teams in the playoffs and they would’ve had one hell of a series for us to enjoy. Of course, if we’re eliminating STHS fuckery, Aleister Cain would actually play like the best goalie in the league instead of getting just the worst sim luck, and Cain would lead the Specters to their first Challenge Cup in 6 games. Oh, if only. (174)

Task 2 (3 TPE, 6 Total) – I’m personally giving the best odds to the New Orleans Specters. We’ve been one of the highest TPE teams in the league for many seasons now, and we’ve had the highest TPE goaltender in the league for a few seasons too. But, because of STHS, he’s always played poorly and the team has suffered as a whole. With a brand new sim out there that’s closed to the awfulness of STHS, New Orleans seems to be a top candidate for the S53 Challenge Cup. Some VERY high TPE players and the high TPE Goalie will do that. I’d also look at San Francisco, who has probably the best defense in the SHL in terms of TPE, and it’ll be nice to see how they do without the sim being STHS. As for the worst odds? I’d give them to the Toronto North Stars. That’s not a slight, it’s honestly what they’ve wanted and have been trying to do for a few seasons. While STHS hurts teams that should be better, it made Toronto much better than they were trying to be. With that randomness out of the way, I’d guess that Toronto will be the ones at the bottom in FHM. (201)

Task 17 – (3 TPE, 9 Total) – Sent to PT Director

Task 14 – (5 TPE, 14 Total)

1. Head GMs JayWhy and Grapehead have been GMing for a while, whereas Co GMs Luketd and DaftRaincloud are newer to management - which team's front office staff (including coaches) do you think will provide a strategic edge (lol as if such a thing exists in STHS) in this series?

I think it’s safe to say that the Manhattan Rage have the “strategic edge” advantage in the series. JayWhy has been a GM for a long time, and he also has an incredible amount of knowledge from being the simmer for forever. Luke was the GM in Vancouver for a few seasons as well, so both of them have a lot of combined experience. Grape has been in SFP for forever, sure, but I don’t know much about Daft’s experience, and I doubt it overshadows that of either MAN GM. (90)

2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?

Manhattan has been running a nice mix of their lines and I love it. Sometimes, in STHS, when you run your lines too top heavy, a good defensive team can shut down those lines more easily. With MAN having not only their ice time more spread out, they have their best players spread out too, each of their top forwards: (Winters, Jax, Luke) are all playing center on a differnet line. That spreads out the scoring a bit more and is harder to stop. Luckily for SFP, they have a killer defense that can weather that a bit, but I worry about their third liners having to play too much and getting beat up because of it. (117)

3. The Rage and the Pride have, in my opinion at least, two of the best logos in the entire SHL. Which team's logo do you like more and why?

The Rage logo is the winner for me here, but its really close. I definitely enjoy the purple that SFP rocks, but the Bull that the Rage now have is just so perfect, and to me, is such a HUGE upgrade from that bullshit polar bear logo they used to have. I love the Red and Black scheme that they stole from Calgary as well. But the detail of the bull with the sky line at the bottom is gorgeous. (80)

4. What is your favorite player name on either of these two teams and why? (not favorite player/user, just focusing on their player name)

Of all of the names involved, I personally love Nathan Explosion the most. I really liked watching Metalocalypse back in the day when it was on, and every time I see that name or his avatar, it makes me smile. It was a pretty good show back in the day, so that nostalgia (even if it was like 5 years ago) gives this the win. (65)

I think I’d go with Option C. I’d like to meet JayWhy or Luke someday too, but I’ve known grape since July 2016 when I first started on the site and I’d like to meet him. Being able to experience and all you can eat grape buffet is also something that intrigues me more than chainsaw lessons or ever meeting that abomination that is Gritty. Fuck the Flyers. Pass the grapes. (71)

Task 6 (2 TPE, 16 Total) – I couldn’t be more against the idea of playing all 7 games of a Challenge Cup finals in a neutral location. That would be awful. Everyone grows up dreaming of winning the cup on their home ice, in front of their fans. Having to do that in a neutral location ruins that. The Super Bowl is great, but there aren’t nearly enough fans in the stadium for the game. In hockey, the fans are part of the experience. They go nuts and get loud and it always makes for a great atmosphere. I’d never want to force my fans to have to travel to see us play in the finals. No way. Home Ice Advantage forever. (116)

When I was considering what kind of build I wanted to do in FHM I immediately opened up my own FHM game and looked at how goalies had done after a season of simming. Now I know there are a ton of variables that go into a season’s worth of SIMS but I knew that if I looked at all the goalies I would see which ones had roughly the same values in specific attributes. The goalie I looked at resembling the most was Sergei Bobrovsky. Obviously, he’s a big league tender in the real NHL and most certainly is in the FHM game as well, so it was an easy choice. I know that with goalies the main attributes to focus on are: Positioning, Recovery and Reflexes, and while I did put an emphasis on those attributes in my build I also went with a more balanced approach so that all the stats have strong values in them so I will be able to be consistent when it comes to my night in, night out performance.

Knox Booth had an up and down season both on and off the ice. Knox is still dealing with the loss of both of his parents while also trying to withstand the pressure of keeping his number one spot in net with the Panthers. With the emergence of Nolan McMahon as a viable option in net, Booth found himself in the backup seat more times than he had anticipated throughout the season. First off, he had a poor start to the year, and second of all when McMahon was thrust into the net he performed better than Knox and it was a difficult call at times as to which goalie to go with. Knox is hoping to put in the extra work this offseason to increase his skill of the game so that he can maintain his position as the number one goalie for the Los Angeles Panthers. Otherwise if Knox has a repeat of last season he may find himself out of a job sooner than he had anticipated.

1. I quite like this question because it’s all about whether or not the old boy’s club can and will be defeated by the new and likely more creative, and as much as I hate to say it I’m going to go with the gentlemen who have been around and understand the SIM better. In this weird wacky version of reality where everything and anything could have changed, the Buffalo Stampede still get knocked out of the playoffs because they are a bad team. Instead of beating the mighty Hamilton Steelcocks though, the Hamilton Steelcocks end up beating them in handy fashion in the battle of the cheaters. The Hamilton Steelcocks and Aaron Wilson are the biggest alphas in Simulation Hockey League history because they simply dominate other people and other teams. This team is an utter juggernaut. They swept through the entire playoffs last season, and lapped up all of the salty tears of opposing teams and general managers throughout the league. It would have been hilarious if the Steelcocks ended up doing the exact same thing again this season, so in this alternate reality the Steelcocks destroy every team and win every single playoff game 10-0 and then just when the league is ready to switch to FHM, Aaron Wilson dabs on everyone and leads Hamilton to a 50-0-0 season.

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?
I am obviously making the Buffalo Stampede the best odds to win the Challenge Cup in this new season. Apparently in all of the seasons simmed by the testing committee of Buffalo, Viktor Marius is ready to be the most dominant force that the league has ever seen. I would not be surprised to see if Marius hits triple digit points, so I am setting his over / under on goals at 45.5, his assists at 55.5, and his point total at 99.5. WannaBeFinn is ready to finally overcome his biological dad, Aaron Wilson, and become the man of the household after Aaron Wilson completely dominated him for the past few seasons, asserting his dominance as the breadwinner of the residence. I think that Michael Scarn will be ready to transform into a different player next season in this new engine and become a mean mugging, big hitting, goal scoring, mega chump who can be the destroyer of worlds.

I am letting the Buffalo general managers build Michael Scarn because I have absolutely no idea what to do because I have never watched a single second of professional hockey in my lifetime. Actually, that is a lie because sometimes I tune into the Stanley Cup Finals, but the point is that I am not a hockey fan and I don't really know which attributes are good or even how the game works. All Michael Scarn wants to do is smash pucks into the back of the net. I think Scarn is going to be ready to be more of a dirty player next season, cleaning up shots on the net and sticking em in.

After being eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals this season, the Buffalo Stampede and Michael Scarn are ready to head into their third season together. After being traded from the Winnipeg Jets, Scarn hasn't really left his mark on the league as he hoped. Playing in the SimonT Hockey Simulator hasn't really yielded a ton of results. Scarn had his career best season this past season, but nevertheless holds himself to higher standards given the standard of Hall of Fame players his agent has represented in other simulation leagues. As such, Scarn will be working hard to identify the best possible build for him to have the best success in the new engine. Scarn is highly considering simply copying whatever build Aaron Wilson decides to make because copying builds is the easiest and most fool proof way to make sure that you end up with a good build in the engine across all leagues.

I think that Luke Thomason is ready to take the league by absolute storm since he is one of the hardest working players in league history. Thomason trains to the maximum each and every week, and finally is seeing some results on the ice. In the new engine, I expect Thomason's advantage in TPE to yield even better results. In the current system, Thomason was rather capped in his ability by the limitations of build maximums, but now Thomason can keep applying that hard training work to his attributes. Luke Thomason is a big hitting mean machine at forward, and we will see if he can elevate his play to true MVP level next season.

Simple and straightforward - make a promotional poster for the S52 CC Finals. Must include at least one player render and the logos and names of both teams. Option A: make a good graphic. Option B: make a shitty graphic. Either will receive TPE.

I went the shitty route

1. I'm going with Luke the Dog. I mean he was my first GM in VAN (and he got me the four star that season) so I am entitled to root for him. I mean he doesn't have the sim exploiter, Aaron Wilson, making his lines, but I am sure that Stat-man Luke can pull it out. Also SFP just doesn't have the sim luck it seems.
3. I think I am going to go with the Rage. I like both, and I even made the SFP in NHL 20, but that bull logo incorporates a lot of Manhatten into it. I mean we all know why its a bull, but there is also the Empire State Building in it. It is just very nice overall.
5. I'd go with B. Like I said, I know Luke and I know his love of Gritty, and we could ask all the questions we want. Like "Did you really punch that kid." I know the charges got dropped, but I believed this to be true. Also Luke said he loves me very much. Who doesn't want to spend time with those you love.

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?
For the best odds, I would give it to the San Francisco Pride. Until this year, they were cursed in the playoffs, but their roster is quite strong and deep at every position. They should be the favorites to go the distance next season. With some solid prospects, including Henrik Lekberg Osterman, who just got called up, they should be in an even better spot to challenge for the Cup next season than they are this year. Now for the worst odds, that easily goes to the Toronto North Stars. Other than Mika Kandinsky, there are no SHL caliber players on their roster, and without the fickle irony of STHS, they don't stand a chance of even making the playoffs. Toronto has fully given in to a rebuild after moving Mikhail Lokitonov and having ml create a new player, so they will have to wait a few years for their top prospects to make their way up the pipeline.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!
Ola Wagstrom is gearing up for another offseason tournament managing Team Sweden, and as with every offseason, training and maximizing Sweden's IIHF performance will be his top priorities. It will be a tough season for Sweden, as they are in a brutal group with favorites Team Canada and Team USA. But Sweden has added a lot of new faces, with five new players joining the roster, so Wagstrom hopes with the right management, Sweden can escape the group stage and the fresh blood can power them to the medal rounds. He hopes to have an excellent tournament himself after a bit of a decrease in his scoring pace in the regular season. And of course, he will be training hard in the offseason with the hopes of passing 2000 TPE, and becoming both the highest TPE and the best player in the league. He has high standards for himself, and he wants to finish his last year before regression strong. It is a contract year too, so he needs to make a statement.

Which player from the Rage or the Pride would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?
I will always bet on my friend and future S44 draftee @Inf1d3l Barret McCarthy. McCarthy has had a wonderful career so far, and has been one of the best puck moving defensemen there is out there. In FHM, his massive amount of TPE should give him even more of an advantage. He should be a nominee for the Scott Stevens trophy for the best defenseman in the SHL based on his skill level alone, and with his offensive specialization, he should put up the points totals and be flashy enough to take home the coveted award. I expect him to set the standard for what an elite defenseman looks like in FHM. The Stevens trophy would be a well deserved award for a great guy and one who has been grinding for many seasons to make it a possibility. If for nothing else, I believe that sometimes good things happen to good people, and if that is the case, then I can't think of anyone I'd love to see win an award than Barret.

1. I think experience always gives the advantage in management, there is something to be said for being a tried and true veteran. I'd give it to JayWhy and Grapehead, though in STHS, even the best of strategies means very little. They've been around for many seasons, and they know what works and what doesn't work in the playoffs after being behind the wheel for their team for awhile. San Francisco should be more than ready to do whatever it takes to get a Cup.
2. In my opinion, a top heavy configuration works the best, as there is no impact for fatigue and gives the stars move ice time. That means more time for your top players to score and to overwhelm the less talented players they are facing up against when the other teams' lower lines are seeing more ice time. I think in the playoffs, you need your best guys on the ice as much as possible, and San Francisco is doing just that.
3. I like the Rage's logo the most. Red is a wonderful and flashy color that really pops on the jersey, and of course it is the perfect color scheme for their team name. You can literally go red with rage. It is both fearsome and menacing, the perfect qualities for a tough-nosed, hard-edged hockey team. You get the feeling that these guys play hard and fast, it just works like a charm.
4. My favorite name would be the Rage's Rainbow Dash. It's hilarious actually, a my little pony character playing hockey. The idea is absurd and laughable, and that's why it's great. The best part is Rainbow Dash plays a mean, physical game; not what you'd expect from a character that was named after a unicorn! Credits to Eggy for coming up with such a meme name, it's wonderful.
5. I'll take the hour of DaftRaincloud showing me everything from his internet history, I'm feeling adventurous today. What can I say, I'm quite bored with a long offseason and I need some excitement. Being scarred for life by the unspeakable horrors I would discover would be a welcome change and would spice things up for me.

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?
This is a tough question to answer because the sim engine will be changing next season. STHS was a little easier because it was tougher to have a big change from one season to the next if the teams stayed the same. With player builds changing and some players even deciding to retire to avoid the change to FHM, this is a complete crapshoot.
For best odds, I will say the New Orleans Specters. It is completly biased in my answer but I know what to expect from the team I am on. We have a great lockerrom and people are really preparing for the Specters next season on the new engine. Also, we have that bitter taste from the Game 7 loss to the Pride this playoffs.
With no uniqueness in my answer, I am going to say that the worst team next season will be the Tampa Bay Barracuda. They were 6 points behind the last team this season and that is just the only reasoning I have for that choice. It seems like a lot of points for a season of 50 games.

With the amount of creativity that is possible in the new sim engine, I could have barely decided what player type I wanted to be. As a defenseman, I know I wanted to be a difference maker on both sides of the ice so it really limited my choices to Two Way Defenseman or Mobile Defenseman. Looking at the key attribute differences between the two, I leaned more towards Two Way. I think it was a little psychological too because it rolls off the tongue a lot better than Mobile Defenseman.
The attributes I am going to focus on will be Offensive Read and Defensive Read. I coach hockey and always enforce the fact that you have to have good positioning and thats what it sounds like to me. The cliche of "The right place at the right time" is something I say a lot and by being able to read the play right, it will make my player have an impact on the ice. I do not need to be really good at moving the puck or shooting it really well since I am going to have my teammates to do that, but if I could have that little assist in the zones and give my team the edge with my reads, thats what I am going to want Kaspars Claude to do.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!
I had an awful season this past season. And if there is one thing on my mind, is how awful I was. I think I am going to be focusing on two things.
The first one will be training. There was a reason that I did not have a good season, and that is cause I have to be better. I have a great group of guys surrounding me and performing, and yet I can not keep up and help them when I am there. My plus minus? What a joke that was, for how good our differential was, I was definitely a reason for that because it seemed as if it was always me on the ice when the other team scored.
The second? Well this is counter productive but I am going to PARTYYYYY. I think getting my mind off of the season and recharging my body will do me some good. Especially going onto the new sim engine, it will be a lot of stress this offseason and I do not want it to get to me. I want to hit up some clubs, go on some yachts, maybe meet Dan Bilzerian and just 'chill' with him if you know what I mean. Just preparing mentally and physically to be a difference maker next season.

One guy I got the chance to meet and become good friends with in my time in Vancouver was Luke Thomason. He has been a difference maker so far in the playoffs, well before the final series, and I think he will continue to do so in the playoffs. And if he can do it in the playoffs when the pressure is amplified and your mistakes are magnified, he will be an even bigger threat when he has 50 games in the season with less stress. Also, will help when he plays weaker opponents and not what is considered to be the 2nd strongest team in the SHL or the strongest team from the Western Conference.

Why?
Im for the idea. I am a big football fan and always enjoyed the idea of having it done in the neutral location. Announcing the location before the season will hype everyone up and it will sell out the tickets forsure. Also, it would be fun to see how fanatic the fans really are of their team. It would be packed with not only the fans of the respective teams in the final but also have the fans from around the league. The unity of everyone will really make the atmosphere fantastic. Everyone would be there to enjoy a good game. I know for a fact no matter which teams would make it, it would be exciting to see and the fans would have a crazy time.

1) Honestly, I do not even follow the SHL that much to know who has been around the league longer in the Front Office. The one name that sticks out to me is Luketd because he was my manager in the Juniors and he did a great job with that team. We were competitive every season I was down there if I remember correctly and he always made it such a great atmosphere in the room. the chemistry being high is always better for team performance.
2) Manhattans approach is always better. Look at who has scored the Game Winning goals for the teams in the NHL in the Stanley Cup Finals, its always the depth players. Come this time in the season and later on in the series, you need to count on everyone to impact the game and make a difference. Having 3 lines you can trust is always the safer and better bet to make.
3) The Rage. I feel like the connection between the colors and the name and the animal all make more sense to mean. I love the color scheme of the Prides logo but I do not understand the reference between the Lion and San Francisco. Id rather have a logo I understand and feel a connection to rather then something that is just nice. If someone wants to explain it to me, be my guest.
5) I think the Gritty and Luke experience would be one I would remember longer. I do not even need Luke there, just let me watch a finals game with Gritty and I would have a blast. As random and ugly as that mascot is, he sure has become a meme and a troll and I would wanna be apart of that history. And you know what is funny, I do not even think he talks and I would still have a blast

Buffalo pulls off the upset in the Eastern Conference Finals and makes it to the finals for the third time in 6 seasons. Los Angeles pulls off an improbable run and meets them in the finals. I mean clearly this is the finals we've all wanted for some time, who is better? Los Angeles? The big city which has ruined the lives of so many small town women and men for generations or Buffalo, a team so unlucky it lost four super bowls in a row and at some point had a hit out on Brett Hull. The series is a 7 game series because its Buffalo and Buffalo comes out on top. MVP is Cass Darrow who runs a train on Los Angeles's offense and makes a mockery of their defense the entire series. This is the kind of stuff you get when you say that Toronto can continue their storybook run and beat a team which has consistently been dominate.

You brought this on yourselves.

This offseason is going to be used to plan my career going forward. I'll be a free agent for the first time following this upcoming season and I have an idea of where I'd like to be playing next year and it isn't in Winnipeg. Of course I'm going to travel and keep working on my skills and of course working out. Those things are a given, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited about next year's free agency. Also, probably find time to find a girlfriend, though probably won't be long term since I said I don't intend at the moment to re-sign in Winnipeg. How shitty would that be, get a girlfriend just to bail and go to another city. That's a reverse Trouba is what that is and its not cool. Keep that in mind fellow pro players. I've been looking forward to this offseason for awhile and I am going to enjoy every second of it.

Against.

You don't get as many cheers when its one neutral location. Its harder for a home team to get loud, to give their team a full throated defense when you're from Buffalo and you're playing in San Francisco. You're also alienating most of your fans by essentially playing away or hoping that you are good the one year your city hosts that you can make money from your local fanbase by playing championship hockey at home. It makes no sense to play at a neutral location unless the team is also providing transport for home fans and it definitely undercuts any business relationship as well.

Well, after just finishing a grueling 4 Star cup Finals which saw Ruslan Zaporozhets and the St. Louis Scarecrows lose to the Anaheim Outlaws. Its time to take a week to relax, send letters home, maybe look at accommodations in Toronto due to next season being his last in St. Louis. After THAT?! The full weight of coming just 3 wins away from tasting victory should set in and be the catalyst for some HARD training to become a faster, stronger, and better player for this team and the future too. Though it should be said his last year in Junior will also be the last for his current contract with the Toronto North Stars. Will they want to re-sign him? Will they look to trade him for even more picks as part of a strong package? Who knows, let the rumor mill swirl with its words and wild scenarios.

Honestly I could play this both ways. On one hand the course we are already on is perfectly fine, its part of the wonder of hockey and the grueling travel and pain of the SHL playoffs. However the special that could be for JUST the finals alone would be wild. Imagine you have the winner of the Western Conference, lets say it was the Calgary Dragons face off against the West Kendal Platoon. Better team in the regular season gets more home games. THEN the series finishes out with games 4 to 7 in the home of the WORST team in the league that season, lets say the Toronto North Stars. WILD inclusion there.

Well let me shoot it to you straight. The absolute worst odds have GOT to go to the Toronto North Stars and here is why. These serial OVERACHIEVERS! are about to have the bottom drop out. With the lowest depth team in the league moving to a simulation engine that is way less random and places a higher value one well build, organized teams who have played together a while I just don't see them having the seal of approval to many outside of the team or organization. As for the best odds? Its a little harder, you see you have the San Francisco Pride, a team that has done well these last 3 seasons and may be our champion going in, making them the favorites. Of course if it is the Manhattan Rage, another younger, up and coming team being the defending champion going into S53, we may speak of a different story. The likes of Buffalo, Hamilton, New Orleans, and the Edmonton Blizzard are all possible cases dependent on growth and offseason moves.

1. Honestly the experience of both JayWhy and Grapehead SHOULD be an advantage as you have two students of Simon T's Hockey Simulator with many a season behind the bench at building and maintaining rosters of Championship Calibre. However the hockey gods are a fickle crowd and a fresh perspective from Luketd or DaftRaincloud could be that edge needed to win it all.
2. I think it depends on your team makeup and how much each coach trusts their team. A deep team could see someone willing to roll out all 3 lines without concern. On the other hand if you can trust your top end talent to pull it out even with a heightened workload you may want to push to make it happen, provided it gives you that edge.
3. Well there are many great logos here in the SHL. Many of them are becoming more and more detailed over time and as we move to a new era we may see even more logos go through that evolution. Personally I love the West Kendal Platoon logo the most. The maroon back drop plays well to highlight the eagle's head and navy blue ring as well as the shining stars. It feels timeless.
4. If I had to pick one? Nathan Explosion. The San Francisco Pride's forward just sounds like a powerful star and he plays like it too. A physical demon with a hard shot and dynamite speed. He is a media man's dream to write about and someone who does NOT need a nick name.
5. Its hard to choose, but it comes down to two. Is JayWhy going to teach me Chainsaw carving or how to murder people with said chainsaw? What about Grapehead's Grape buffet? will he be feeding me grapes and wine while I lounge about? Or is it going to be some sick torcher where I am tied to a kitchen chair and force fed some of the worst possible recipes containing grapes? These are the questions I ask.

In this alternate reality New England get one more point and beats out Toronto for the last playoff spot, and just like the last time New England made the playoffs, they catch fire. Balanced scoring and the emergence of rookie Center Jakub Bruchevski helps get the Wolfpack to game 7 in the Eastern Conference Finals were they unfortunately fall short as they lose to Manhattan. Along the way New England beat both Buffalo and last season's champions Hamilton. In this reality it's the same as the normal one as Manhattan plays San Francisco. It seems that this match up is written in the stars as both teams play each reality. Another change is in the stats department, before getting knocked out it looked like Ola Wagstrom would be the MVP of the playoffs if New England would have made it to the finals. Regardless what did or didn't happen the Rage - Pride should be a great series.

Teams with the best odds in no order
1. New England - New England have one of the highest collective and average TPE per player and that was before they added stud defenseman Rex Kirby in the offseason. Kirby and Wagstrom expect to be over 2k TPE during the next the season and with teams being on the same level knowledge wise with the switch to FHM, look to the Wolfpack to be one of the favorites going into next season.
2. Edmonton - The Blizzard have a good mix of stars (Tuck, McIntyre, Pepperoni), role players (Scholz, Truong, Tokolosh, and Fourty-One), and rising up and comers (Blackwood, Tanner, Rhys, and Boivin) and they should prove to be in the hunt for the Cup.
3. New Orleans - The Spectors lead by Lil Manius and Aleister Cain are one of the deepest teams in the SHL. With their talent is one of the top 2 teams in the SHL right now, and are my early season favorites in the Western Conference.
4. San Francisco - The Pride have been somewhat of a surprise season making it to the Challenger Cup out of the West. While they don't have some of the depth as other teams I'm willing to give the Pride the benefit of the doubt.
5. Manhattan - The Rage are along the lines of New England and New Orleans as they have great depth all over the roster, and have a mix of stars and good players. They should be competing with New England to return to the Challenger Cup for two years in a row.

As a sniping forward most of the attributes I'll be focusing on are offensive. Out of all the offensive attributes the most important one in my mind is Offensive Read. Offensive Read is a players ability to read the offensive zone and see what the best option is. It helps your player get open, their movement around the zone, either to pass or shoot the puck. If you go look at all of the best offensive players in FHM the one attribute they all have in common is a high offensive read attribute. While it won't show up on the score sheet Offensive Read might just be the most important offensive attribute in the game.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

After a grueling rookie season I've decided that I'm going on a nice little vacation until I get called up for team Russia after the playoffs are over. Some of my teammates have told me to go hang out in the Caribbean which sounds like a lot of fun. So I'll go hang out on some islands for a week or two then come home and play with my dog. Next I'll go back to Russia to get ready for the IIHF, winning Bronze last has made us hungry for more this year. It will be nice to be able to see the my family in Russia again as I only get to see them once a year. After the IIHF is over I'll go back to Boston to get ready for training camp and the preseason, we have big expectations for the next season so I'll have to be at the top of my game.

2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?

I think San Francisco's minutes heavy 2 lines will benefit them early in the series as everyone will be fresh, but the longer the series goes on the advantage will shift to Manhattan's favor. With Manhattan's depth, they can just wear down the Pride while keeping all three of their lines fresh.

I gotta go with going to an all-you-can-eat grape buffet with Grapehead. Grapes are one of my favorite fruits, and with a name like Grapehead you know he'll be able to help me pick out the best grapes there. Plus it's a buffet, plus if it's free that's not something you can just turn down.
