S53 PT #1 - Shelter At Home

Piotr would be forced to do some things that he normally would never do. He is usually spending time outdoors or out with friends. He isn’t one to run home after a game or practice to start playing video games or watching TV or a movie. He has had to give up on his normal routine and started playing games with his teammates online. Since he has lost access to the team’s athletics facility, he has moved some of the gym equipment into his apartment. Fortunately, he was smart enough to take the recommendations of his brother and stock up on vodka before the mandated social distancing started. The isolation isn’t the big concern for Piotr since he is usually not one for large crowds anyway. What will become an issue is the lack of competition. He thrives on game days, and with out any hockey he has found different ways to meet that need. This usually entails online drinking competitions with teammates and family online.

For this quarantine, Mikael Choybuk took his love for the Calgary Dragons in stride. One thing is for sure, and it's that he stocked up on chicken parmesan ingredients. Plenty of chicken and cheese in his household, that's for sure. Mikael Choybuk took to the kitchen for many hours of the day, perfecting his craft in cooking his own chicken parmesan recipe. He makes sure to go on video call with his Calgary Dragons teammates every day if he can get a hold of them, and they all take part in eating their team-loved meal together. Luckily for Choybuk as well, he has a hockey net at home. Choybuk is known for his skill at shooting the puck, so he makes sure to take at least 1000 shots per day at the net, just blasting home slappers and wristers. He also keeps in touch with the strippers at the strip clubs in Calgary, to let them know that it's not his fault he can't go and see them. He does not want them to feel like he doesn't care anymore.

Peter is following in the tradition of many a highly paid athletes. He has been making a family. Getting married in his first SHL season to the girl he convinced to follow him to America from Denmark all those seasons ago (only really worked when he moved to New York city from anchorage, she had no interest living in Alaska!).

But since that lovely event the Larson's are now on baby number three, with the third still being in its newborn stage, which means really... Quarantine means just less visitors. And no practice to go to. Peter wasn't likely to be doing anything other than work or childcare in this window anyway, so in some ways this is perfect timing. And thankfully the 1/2 acre of long-island property where the Larson's have settled themselves is big enough for the bigger two (still both under 4!) To get out and play and adventure around without feeling too cooped up in the house.

The Larson's are doing well, but it is a hard situation out there and Peter has been doing what he can from afar with his wealth to support vulnerable people in the New York city area, and is also rostered once a week to do shopping drop offs to vulnerable people in his community.

Andrej has definitely not been crazily bothered by this quarantine situation. While he doesn't hate company, being home alone and having the ability to be himself just to himself, which generally means being a little bit too crazy to be comfortably around, is something he values a lot, and being an introvert learns you how to socialize just enough through the internet to not feel lonely, but to feel comfortable with it all. Obviously, he has donated to a bunch of places thanks to the privilege of being a professional hockey player, but he isn't the one to really go out and physically help until someone drags him, so most of his time is spent keeping himself active enough for the hopefully upcoming season, playing a ton of computer games, and acting like being at home is a incredible heroic achievement, ignoring that it's mostly just a considerate thing to do for the general public health.

Erben Kasius is handling his shelter in place situation the same way any rich person does - pretty freaking well. For real, if we're talking about this "in universe" so to speak, I just got a $13 million dollar deposit from my rookie contract. You think I'm not living large? I mean you don't want to be stupid with your money but I'm definitely dropping a decent amount on a big ass house somewhere outside the city. And usually big ass houses are built on big ass lots which means plenty of distance from my neighbors. Then you also have to consider that that house definitely has a gym inside it, so training isn't really an issue. Plus I'd have enough money to pay other people to do my grocery shopping for me. So what really am I missing in the end? I guess just company, which is not necessarily easy to get along without. If Kasius is a bachelor he might get a little stir crazy, but it's not like you can't leave the house to see people. You just have to be careful about the way you're interacting. So I guess all in all it wouldn't be that bad. Like my teammates could come hang out and we'd play our PS5s bought with money printer checks and just sit like six or ten feet apart.

Ethan Duncan is only just beginning his career, so he doesn’t have the luxurious homes that many of his veteran peers do.  What he does have is a strong sense of community and a simple in home gym.  He would begin by helping out around his hometown with an online training program that includes live workout videos as well as tips and tricks for beginning hockey players.  This is vital to getting back to any sense of normalcy and would go a long way to help people stay in shape while being confined to their four walls over a long period of time.

In his greatly increased downtime, he would probably pick up some video games that he hasn’t had time for.  EA’s NHL 2004 is his favorite hockey game to play especially with the sheer volume of mods that have come out over the past 15 years.  Ultimately, he would be bored of that when the quarantine lasted a long time and practice actual hockey by spending some time denting up an old dryer.

With a global pandemic taking shape in the world around him, Barkov will heed the recommendations of health officials in his area and remain indoors for the majority of the time. Taking up old comforts, such as gaming consoles to help fill the time. He uses this as a way to escape the growing anxiety he feels about the world around him and reconnect with old friends over the internet to share in their experiences and help support each other. In terms of preparation, he has stocked up on food and supplies to ensure that there is no imperative need to go out in the event of the situation worsening. He tries to keep in shape using the limited exercise equipment he stores in his apartment, but is thinking about expanding the types of equipment he has in order to be more effective with his time. He hopes others will also take this seriously and prepare like he has so the crisis can finally end in the future.

The fact that this is all going on is mind boggling. The way the world has literally just gone on pause over this virus is eerie as hell. One of the main parts of our "era" that we will be remembered for is this Coronavirus. Kids will be learning about this in history class in the future which is such a strange thing to think about. Mentally, Kane is doing fine with all this. He's more of a homebody if it's not the weekend anyways so not too much has changed for him routine wise. He definitely misses playing the sport and seeing all his teammates. With that being said, he's been able to keep up with his workout routine with his home gym and he's not been able to focus on other hobbies of his such as gaming. Gaming has been a great way to scratch the competitive itch hockey would normally do as well as a way to keep in touch with teammates. They've been getting on group calls and drinking and playing Jackbox together if they want something light. They've also been going pretty hard at CSGO.

Kata Vilde should have no difficulty with a home quarantine. A known gourmand, Vilde will use the time to experiment with and develop new recipes to his ever growing repertoire. The first experiment will be with a Captain Crunch cheesecake, a rather silly yet delicious craving. The thought is to use ground up cereal for the crust, mix in some strawberry flavoring to the cheesecake batter to mimic the flavor of the crunchberries and finally to top the cheesecake with a layer of Captain crunch itsself. Another attempt will be to make a Cornparm. What in the hell is a Cornparm? It'll will be like a corndog made of chicken parmesan. Using a precooked chicken tender, it will be first skewered on a stick and dipped in marinara sauce. Then it will be rolled in a mixture of parmesan and mozzarella cheese. Finally it will be dipped into a corndog batter and deepfried to a golden brown. As he bites into it the goeey cheese and sauce should flow like liquid love into the waiting mouth of our guinea pig Esa Parmborg @Steelhead77

Ah, the good old quarantine at home situation. Well, I guess he’d play video games until he grew bored of those which depends on the day. Then Nick would consider getting a leg up on his competition in his backyard where he has an indoor ice rink. He’d gear up only to get out there and realize that training isn’t any fun so he’d bail on that and probably do drugs and drink for a while to numb the pain of him being a top 10 draft bust in the SHL. Maybe he’d pick up cooking or something after he sobered up. Oh, definitely shopping too. He’s currently not in debt which is unlike him so look for him to turn that around and buy anything and everything off online retailers. Useless shit too that he’ll never use just for the sake of having it. Anything to give him a little extra serotonin in times like these.

Rocky is at home in Chicago taking care of her father. He's up there in age and she wants to be there for him. With the garage closed due to the fact that it's not an "essential service", she's really his only support. She hangs out with him and has been watching old soccer games on VHS. With the sports world at a standstill, they've been digging through old tapes to find good games or even games that they completely forgot about. It's not just their hometown team of Alajuelense, but also some old Barcelona games from the 90s. Along with this, Rocky has decided that this would be a great time to help her dad learn even more about the game of hockey, going through some of her favorite games she's played in so far and pointing out different things for her dad to learn.

The important thing is that Rocky is with her family and doing her best to not only keep her dad and herself safe from the virus, but also just being with her dad during what would otherwise might be a very lonely time for him.

Hugh jazz has so far spent his time during the lockdown working out 4 times a week, playing city skylines, and tomorrow he is going to try and learn how to make sushi. Sushi rice was the only rice left-back in the store 2 weeks ago, and that's what he is going to be eating with his regular meals. so midas whale takes the time to learn how to cook something new and challenging that is sushi, it is going to be interesting tomorrow on how the sushi is going to turn out. Also, he has been staying up late looking at tik toks for some reason and waking up around 12 PM. It sucks to be in this lockdown and hopefully it is going to be over soon as it has been taxing personally, not going outside excepts for some walks here and tehre have sucked and I hope we can get through this thing quick.
