SIMULATION HOCKEY NETWORK

To go along with the power rankings, we are having the 3 stars of the week. If you saw the power rankings here there are a lot of really good charts and graphs that show how players are doing. We also look at the player on the team and how they did overall to determine who they are. We had a couple people give their top 5 players in the pre-season, and explained why they were in their top 5, and got the list down to 3. So without further ado.

Three Stars - SHL Preseason

1st Star: Nickolas Klaus (WKP) @Noble
[7G-8A-15P]
Nickolas Klaus led all players in points with 15 in the preseason. One thing worth mentioning however, was his -6 +/-. Sporting a terrific 29.17% SHT% he gave opposing goalies nightmares and moving forward will attempt to keep his hot streak going.

Klaus was 3rd in goals scored throughout the preseason, only behind Dick Clapper (NEW) and the legendary Cameron Carter II. As if his shot wasn’t deadly enough, Klaus showcased his passing ability with the most assists out of any player in the SHL preseason as well.

Klaus did his best to carry a terrible team in Winnipeg by playing 25 minutes a night in all situations. He also had an astounding 8 power play points throughout the preseason and will be a name to follow when the SHL season kicks off.

2nd Star: Knox Booth (LAP) @Tate
[3-1-1 | 1.10 GAA | .958 SV%]
Two words. Brick. Wall. That’s exactly what Knox Booth was during the preseason. He had an astounding 1.1 GAA in the 6 games he played in (1st among goalies with 5 or more starts), and if that was not good enough he also featured a .958 Save%, good for 1st among the SHL during the preseason. The dominant goalie looks to keep his preseason success going after 2 shutouts and only 6 goals allowed in 6 games. With more time to develop, Booth will only get better each season until he gets up to regression, so LAP has a lot of hope in this younger goalie to lead them.

After a disappointing end to the SimonT era, LA would have to be excited with Booth’s performances and moving forward, have a real shot at potentially taking home the Challenge Cup in S53.

3rd Star: Lil Manius (NOLA) @Bonk

Lil Manius ran wild in the preseason, tying Klaus for 1st in assists and finishing 1st in game rating. The power forward was terrific and his presence was felt in both ends with a number of hits, takeaways and 11 blocked shots as a forward. Manius showcased good play driving ability and although he may not have led his team in points, his all around game was on display all preseason.
Seeing that New Orleans looks like a physical/heavy blocking type of style, Lil Manius fits perfectly in the style of a person that can lay the body, and can muscle himself into a lot of points. Being in his prime Lil manius is poised to have a big season if he continues like he has.

Honorable Mention: Dick Clapper
It was down to being very close to getting Dick Clapper over Lil Manius, but the voters decided on Lil Manius. Clapper had a great preseason, leading the league in goals with 9, tied for 2nd with points, having a high game rating(doing a great job in NEW), as well as having a positive TK vs GA differental, and playing in all situations for New England. If he continues on this hot streak, then he should see himself as one of the 3 stars sooner than later.
