Another season near the top of the pack for defensive defensemen to close out my pre-regression career.  In general, the individual stats that I care about all seemed to regress but my goal differential drastically improved.  I went from a -23 last season to a -1 this season without a significant change in our overall GF and actually a decent jump in our overall GA.  Maybe that tells a story that my play was more controlling and less heroics, but my TkA - GvA went from a +14 to a +1 which seems much sloppier.

As I enter regression, my goal for next season is to try and stay reliable.  I need to lean on my teammates as they grow and I need to make space for them to excel.  I'll shed a bit more than 200 TPE which can start with cleaning up some unimportant attributes (glad to have the best fighting rating in the league while only taking one fight in FHM so far...), and then I'll have to consider which big ticket ratings to tune back without damaging my style.

We missed the playoffs again this season and I haven't followed any of it really.  I was only going to follow the finals as a countdown to when IIHF gets to kick off.  However, I felt like I blinked and missed them since New Orleans swept (ooooo time traveling from the future for this question).  In fact, they ended before I had a chance to complete my federation head duties but luckily we had set a specific deadline this time around instead of just "when finals end".

In character, Slip probably watched the playoffs just because he's stuck at home and it's more interesting that scrolling tik tok for 16 hours.  Instead, he scrolled for 13 hours and caught a game each day.  Specifically, he probably watched for his USA teammates because New Orleans is loaded with them across all positions.  Without actually checking the results, it seems that they must have done well since they swept.

S54 IIHF Predictions - with one FHM IIHF season under our belt, we've got a bit more of a sense of how the tournament might play out in the new sim engine. What are your predictions for the S54 IIHF or WJC tournament - how do you think your team will fare this season? Who do you think are the biggest contenders to take home the hardware and why?

The defending champions, the United States of America, has another solid chance at the gold this season.  We have a lot of big name aging stars that are starting to get hit hard by regression but we have a continuous stream of top earners to slide in and replace them.  With our talent, some of the games were a bit of a stomp but as we saw with Canada the TPE doesn't guarantee a win.  I'm confident in my coaching staff that we can work our roster to the fullest again.

Personally, I'm looking forward to being the big dog defensemen at 2006 TPE where I usually put the absolute studs Driftwood and Moore ahead of myself.  While I've been chasing them in TPE and not using my position to pimp my own skater, now I'm higher than them and just starting my downward trend.  So I can finally ride the spotlight guilt free until some hungry young gun knocks me down.

This will be the last run at the gold for Joe K.  As is tradition, having a retiring legend seems to boost our performance, so hopefully that mojo will drive us to a gold again.  If that doesn't carry us, our best in show goal horn will.

Which player from the Steelhawks or Specters has a great chance to make the Hall of Fame when their playing days are up? Make the case for that player's HOF bid.

This is a no brainer, thanks for the easy TPE.  Joe K's playing days are finally up and he's got the hardware and the legacy to back a first ballot Hall of Fame entry.  In the 2k TPE club, check.  4 Challenge Cup wins, check.  6 IIHF gold wins (most of any player in history), check.  Going to get a 7th this offseason, hopefully check.  All over the all time scoring leaderboards, check.  Old as dirt and still hovering around the 1k TPE mark, check.  All of that doesn't even include his legacy as a GM in both SHL and SMJHL, so yeah, first ballot.

Occasionally, broadcast networks will bring an active player into the TV coverage of ongoing finals if their team has been eliminated, and that player is often to give unique insights from a current player's perspective. During this NOLA-HAM finals, which SHL player or prospect would be a good addition to the Challenge Cup TV coverage? Why would that player be a good addition to the broadcast team?

Slip McScruff would be a decent choice for the comedy aspect of it.  Given the pandemic, Slip would take the broadcast from his living room.  He would probably dress up only on the top half but mess up his webcam placement to show his heart boxers anyway.  He played with a lot of the New Orleans guys back in his Crow days and some of them still in the IIHF.  He could probably tell some stories, maybe give some insight into their off ice routines.  Specifically, that one time when Cainer lost his pads while traveling to the gold medal game last tournament.  Well, I won't give it away or else Slip will have nothing super interesting to talk about.

Unfortunately, the network probably wouldn't want to spend that kind of money when half the viewers will mistake it for a fan's perspective.  Maybe instead they should bark up the tree of the players that these teams eliminated to get some first hand insight on their playstyle, maybe a bit of good drama too.

Coming into my sophmore season with the Newfoundland Berserkers I had higher expectations for the year. I felt like I had a solid rookie season, considering I joined the team late in training camp. I still managed to put up a respectable 2 goal, 17 point season playing on the 3rd line defence pairing. I put in a lot of effort in the off season to step my game up, but there wasn’t much to show for it. I finished my second season with 5 goals and 16 points. While my shot got better, I still wasn’t contributing overall offensively to the team. My average ice time per game went up 3 minutes, but I had 1 less point to show for it. The only positive is that my hits nearly doubled from 26 to 42, I also improved my defensive play and had 23 takeaways improving from just 15 my rookie season. Overall though it was disappointing to see nearly all my stats be the same. My 3rd season should hopefully show some development.

I was disappointed to see the Panthers fall short in the conference finals to the New Orleans Specters. I had some other things on my mind though, Newfoundland was still in a heated series against Carolina in the SMJHL. Me and some of the guys would try to watch some of the action on the screens in the locker rooms between periods, but the coach would get pretty angry. It sucks that I didn’t get to see my team play and after they got eliminated we dropped game 7 to the Kraken. After both of my teams getting knocked out in the conference finals I lost all desire to even watch any of the games on TV. I decided to hit the gym earlier this year, I heard both of the teams that ended up beating us won their division cups. Next year I’m going to be sure that we go all the way.

What are your predictions for the S54 IIHF or WJC tournament - how do you think your team will fare this season? Who do you think are the biggest contenders to take home the hardware and why?

With the IIHF tournament about to take off, no doubt the biggest contenders to take home the gold are going to be Canada and the USA. I think the two of them will be playing in the finals this year, but I’m going to give a slight edge to the USA. They have a deeper and more talented core lineup that can play multiple roles when the situation requires it. Lil' Manius will be a game breaker for the squad as he is the top 2-way player in the game today. They are lead on defense by the stud Charlie Serpe, who brings it every single night on and off the ice. Aleister Cain will back stop the squad, he is coming off a cup victory and will be looking to add some more gold to his trophy case in the tournament. Team USA looks primed to bring the gold back to the states.

a. Going purely off of season stats, Hamilton has the better goaltender in Geezus Kryyst. He boasts a solid .913 save percentage for 6th best among starting goalies. Cain has struggled with only a .903 this season. Kryyst has game stealing capability as his 8 shutouts this season can attest to. The goaltending edge is clearly in Hamilton’s favor

c. I’m a strong believer that season head to head is a better indication of determining an outcome than season stats. With Tampa playing in the East, all the teams had inflated stats in the conference. New Orleans finished 2nd in a competitive West. New Orleans tough playing style is something the Steelhawks aren’t accustomed to. This is why New Orleans will beat them in the finals, because they know they already can.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Reflecting back on the series, who gets your vote for series MVP? Make the case why this player deserves it over any other.

After a hard fought battle between New Orleans and Hamilton, there is one clear mvp of the series. That honor goes to Jimmy Slothface of the Spectres. He had the most points of the series by far as him and his team outright dominated the Steelhawks. Among several stars on the team he definitely had the biggest impact adding a couple goals and assists to his credit against the Hawks. His physicality also picked up as he laid multiple heavy hits on players through the series. Not only that but his complete play up the center helped shutdown the Hamilton attack and gave his team key faceoff victories.

Even though I wasn't watching the finals, I was keeping a close eye on the results of each game. I hosted a few parties where the games were on in the background, but actually we were all just sitting around another TV watching dumb movies like Despicable Me or one of the minion movies. The reason why none of us really paid attention to the games was because, well, we didn't care all that much about which team would win. However, we cared about the results of the games because we wanted the series to end as quickly as possible. We knew that once the series was over, we'd be able to announce our blockbuster trades, so Dick and Guy were always peeking at the score, secretly hoping that one of the teams would complete a sweep. As luck would have it, the New Orleans Specters actually managed to sweep the Hamilton Steelhawks, and our blockbuster trade was announced soon after. I'd like to think that the trade completely overshadowed the finals, so really we were all just waiting for the main event.

My predictions for the S54 IIHF tournament are as follows:

Now that Gabriel "Gonewild" @Gwdjohnson Johnson has stepped down as the IIHF federation head for Team Canada, they will probably win the gold medal. Their roster is absolutely stacked from the bottom to the top, and the only thing (or person) holding them back was their absolutely incompetent fed head. With Noka at the head of the team, I have no doubt in my mind that Canada will have a much more successful tournament and they will probably win the gold medal.

I predict that the United States International Ice Hockey Federation Team will win the silver medal. They've got a stacked core of elite forwards, as well as a a great goalie in Aleister Cain, and an absolutely solid defense. The reigning champions aren't going to go down without a fight, but I believe their roster is just slightly less stacked than Canada's, and now that Gabe is no longer in charge, Canada has what it takes to take them down.

I would place Team Great Britain in third place. We finished with a bronze medal last season, beating Gabe Johnson's Team Canada, and it was a sweet sweet victory. Now, since Canada will likely advance to the gold medal game this time around, Great Britain should be able to win the bronze medal game without too much worry.

As much as I hate to say it, I believe the infamous Hamilton Steelhawks forward Flacko Lagerfield will make it into the Hall of Fame. In fact, the question likely isn't even whether he'll make the Hall of Fame, but whether or not he'll be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Before his stint on Hamilton, Flacko was a TPE superstar that had already won several individual awards, but it was only in the twilight of his career when he joined the Steelhawks that Lagerfield began to truly shine. He was at the top of the league for two seasons in a row after the FHM transition, and that's certainly a Hall of Fame worthy way to cap out your career.

Honestly, I expected better from Cale this season. Even at 350, I expected him to do a bit more. That doesn't take anything from the team at all... I should have been playing a little better in front of them. I spent much of the season fighting build capability and think with training it will get turned around next season. Really the difficult part is consistency... It is difficult when you face less shots and even let one or two in. There isn't much room for error. Overall, I'm happy with the season. There are some attributes I will be focusing on for next season however. Sink or swim... I've exhausted the optimal build based on the Newfoundland strategy. I'm ready for the next step of development. Working hard will pay off this next season as the core of this team continues to evolve... It is key that I enter in the best shape possible for the S55 season.

2. As for the Berserker crew, we unfortunately tuned out the championship series between Carolina and Anaheim. To me it isn't a sore loser mentality, we fell short of our goals. We needed a week or so here to take a step back. Basically, we cumulatively decided to get shit our pants drunk the night of the loss and sweat out the loss the next day. It was a bit brutal the next day as we naturally were in a few day stupor as we contemplated bad decisions throught the series. The hardest part on all of us was truly that we fell short for the boys playing their last season in a Serker sweater. We are a tight knit can and it shows in the locker room. I specifically took it pretty damn hard, because I do feel like I failed when my team needed me to be clutch. There was nothing we could've taken from watching the finals as we all were much too bitter to watch.

We truly felt we were in a prime position on home ice, but the puck just didn't bounce our way. So what is next? Well first we wish the outgoing members of our organization the best. The remainder of the boys need to keep their eye on the ultimate goal for next season. We are in a prime position to really be the favorites next season. From the forwards and defensemen in the organization now for multiple seasons to the goalie, we are going to be loaded for next season. To the fans who are heart broken... we are in the same boat. Look forward... This last season was only a preview of what is ahead of us. From the top to the bottom, this next season was our target. The vets will be at their strongest while the youth are going to be right behind. Sprinkle in a rookie and we are set. We will be back at the top.

13. d. If SDCore offered you an all-expenses paid week-long vacation to either New Orleans or Hamilton, which city would you choose to go to? (tough choice I know lol.) How would you spend your time there? Well... I'd probably go with New Orleans even though I have said I would never go back there. Three trips to blues city and three times I've missed my flight back home. In my three times there I've gotten beyond shit faced and have accomplished losing my wallet twice, cell phone one, took home a bike taxi chica, toured the Superdome, met someone off of Craigslist, tried to buy bang bang with a library card (atm was complicating at 3:30 a.m. after too many shots), celebrated my birthday, lost my debit card, won $8,500 on a roulette play where I went all in on black five times in a row, met a bartender I ended up dating for a couple months, lost $5,000 of that roulette winnings when drunken Wally sauntered into the casino and went with red. Oh yeah... and saw someone literally get ran over in the middle of a street. So what would Corey have to do? Open his checkbook.

Reflection on your season - how did your player fare on the ice this season? Did you meet or surpass your individual player goals or did you come up short? Whether you excelled or disappointed - what can you attribute that to? What will you try to do better next season?

Well Ruslan Zaporozhets went up to the SHL for his rookie season and got top line minutes with the Toronto North Stars. That alone would make for an exiting time, but then it got better.  Scoring your first goal is always special, scoring it in your first career game? That's lights out man. At the start of the season I thought I ought to be happy with 25, maybe 30 points, 30 would have been crazy to me. To finish with 38? That's pretty strong for where we are at and where Zapo is at for his development. I really want to get better points wise for sure, but also this team needs help defensively. its hard as you cannot JUST spend all your TPE Balanced this early. I think I did well thanks to the early communication with @ml002 about where I would be playing and used the free FHM redistribute to build a player perfect for his role.

Well, dang. Your team didn't make the finals this season - my condolences to you. Are you and your teammates planning on watching the finals even though you're not in it? If so, what are your watch parties like? If not, are you still following the finals or trying to ignore it completely? What are you and your teammates doing together (if anything) instead of following along? (if you're on Hamilton or New Orleans, or either of the 2 SMJHL teams that soon will be playing in the finals - congrats and sorry :p this one isn't for you!)

Honestly Ruslan loves the game of hockey and would have no issues with watching the final series for the ultimate prize. Now who with, and where are a bit more of a hard question. Does he do it with the Star Gang? How about some friends from around the league like @Evok ? Maybe he doesn't bother at all? Honestly who knows. But it would be an exciting time none the less. Probably train more until the Challenge Cup can be awarded fully, then make a huge amount of food for a nice cup watching party with everyone who wants to attend.. Yeah that sounds about right, lots of delicious food and drinks to be had by all at a bash to end off the 54th SHL season. Who wouldn't want to be at that right? Gonna need a big enough house for that though. Maybe @Ursin will let us use his crib.

With only one champion in the SHL and the SMJHL per season, that means the other 26 teams came up just a bit short (or a lot short). Team owners know that fans can get frustrated by shortcomings, so they're always trying to keep optimism high in the fan base. Written option: give an excerpt from an ousted team's owner's press conference at the end of the season focusing on the team's bright future or however they can keep fans' optimism high. Graphic option: the team has rented a billboard in town with an inspiring message to fans to keep optimism high; show the billboard (must include team logo and whatever the optimistic message is).

Toronto North Stars Owner Barold Halard was quoted in the Northern Star Colum as saying "So the fifty fourth Season of the SHL has ended and the team continues to grow and develop. The lads are continuing to get better at playing against the other teams and adjusting to the new rules. This division is a gather tough one, everyone knows the Great Lakes Division boasts three of the most powerful teams in the SHL right now in Hamilton, Buffalo, and to a lesser extent, Chicago. But with FIVE new Star's ready to shine brightly, our future is as true as the North Star. Season fifty five has a lot of excitement in store for the City of Toronto and her fans. We may make some moves to bring in talent and are always looking to improve this great team." Time will tell is the North Stars are going to become a true contender but the future looks high regardless.

a. These are absolutely two of the best goaltenders in the league in Cain and Kryyst - which team has the advantage in net in this series?
b. There are two Johnsons in this series - Gabriel (HAM) and Darnell (NOLA). In fact, the two used to host the Johnson & Johnson Podcast together, but they're now on the ice as bitter rivals. Which team has the better Johnson?
c. The Specters won both regular season matchups, but Hamilton finished with better team stats overall. Do regular season head-to-heads provide an accurate forecast for a playoff series? (answer predictively if it hasn't happened yet; reactively if it has.)
d. If SDCore offered you an all-expenses paid week-long vacation to either New Orleans or Hamilton, which city would you choose to go to? (tough choice I know lol.) How would you spend your time there?

A: Honestly both are fantastic, for Kryyst's sake he has many trophies including the Challenge cup already and has been a savior for the Hamilton Steelhawks for quite a while. That said Cain is more than very able in net and has often been statistically one of the best goaltenders in the SHL since the New Orleans Specters were born in S46.

B: There are indeed two Johnsons in this finals series and only one can take home the coveted Challenge Cup. Now you all may be waiting for the stats to show who is better based on position and such. However everyone knows Gabe sucks (lol) and Sheriff Darnell is "Big" Johnson for a reason, so i'll have to give this one to New Orleans and the Sheriff of Spooktown himself.

C: Honestly yes, Head-to-Head match ups always paint a better picture for playoff series'. Now I am not JUST saying that because the New Orleans Specters took the Hamilton Steelhawks out behind the shed and set them to pasture. In hockey teams are know to have their own personal kryptonite, here in the SHL it doesn't ALWAYS shake out as badly as in real life, but the idea is the same.

D: Mardi Gras City itself should be a no brainer option. Past the Boozing on Bourbon street, you can still get a lovely mix of French and Creole culture and opportunities to learn. In my opinion the city of New Orleans is just so much better on paper than the city of Hamilton.

1. In terms of personal performance this season, I’m pretty happy. I put up a career high points total and was able to really contribute on the ice offensively, and be decent defensively. I have been working a lot on my ability to finish, and that was shown with a nice 27 goals this season. It was individually the best season of my career despite starting to get into the late years and hit regression. The one place that I really nieed to work on is my penalty taking. Along with my career high point total, I hit a career high penalty minute total which can definitely hurt my team and not allow us to play at out very best. In order to perform better next season, I will have to work a bit on my discipline while taking the time to hit the gym and work on my physical attributes in order to maintain top form and be the offensive players the people of San Francisco expect me to be.

Unfortunately, the watch parties are going to be a little different for our team this year. Usually I would invite everyone over to my box in the alley and be sure that I pull out all the stops for them with premium table scraps from the 5 star restaurant down the road. This year, with the quarantine, we’re going to have to settle for hopping onto a call. Due to my experiences with the shadow HO, I have spent much of my contract money on developing a conferencing app that will allow my team and I to get together while not having the security vulnerabilities of something like zoom. While I won’t be able to share my delightful food with everybody, I will be able to send them recipes in advance to make the most of whatever restaurant’s trash they can pick through pre-game. Some of them want to cheat and go to the grocery store, but I guess some people just aren’t as picky about getting the authentic experience.

Someone going missing is very clearly the work of the shadow organization behind the controlling of the head office of our league. Long have they been trying to sway things in their favour, and clearly this is a kidnapping that is intended to extort Andrei. While this organization is very slippery and hard to find, I have a lot of experience tracking them down and have developed my special tinfoil hat to be able to track the wavelengths of their cell phones. I will also be sure to inform the police, since my track record of getting a hold of the organization has been poor as I just keep missing them!

Last year was a very polarizxed year with a few of the long standing hockey dominant countries working their way back to the top in a IIHF history in which they have faced some struggles in the years coming up to it. I predict that as last year, both Canada and the United States will come out with very strong performances as they look to bring IIHF Gold back home. Both teams have very strong rosters filled with veterans and some of the best young players in the game. For Canada, these are players who grew up with dreams to do nothing else where hockey reigns supreme in the sports world. They are expected to win every year, and this is the type of team this year who has that ability. It has a lethal combination of some of the league’s tops scorers, defenders and goalies which will help propel them through the group stages and be heavy favourites in the playoffs.

While I hate to toot my own horn, I believe that I Jeff Brogen would be a good candidate for this. I believe that I bring something interesting and unique to the table with my knowledge and chatter about the shadow organization that is controlling the SHL. This could be used in order to bring some sanity to the stranger parts of games, and to bring some integrity to ensure that the games are not being thrown to please the overlords of the league. Beyond that, I am very experienced on the ice, and have had experience in the finals that I could bring to the table. While I might end up complaining too much about the shadow organization trying to keep the Pride down because of my involvement, I will use my platform as a means to let the people’s voice be heard (and to get some great seats to the game)!

While we know that it has bqeen a long haul for us here in San Francisco on a wait for that first cup, I know that this team has a lot to look forward to in our future. We have a strong mix of both veterans and young guns alike and know that we have a roster capable of making the next step, especially as our young players develop. Many of their players have been dedicating their career to trying to bring a cup to this fair city, and they will be getting the wonderful addition of this years first overall draft pick. The lineup will be absolutely start studded in years to come and we know that veteran’s such as Brogen, Bork, Schieck, Moyer, and Reaper and not looking to give up on this team and are looking to do whatever it takes to win the cup. They will use their skills on the ice, and the lessons they’ve learned over the years to mentor the young crop and develop them into an incredible team

Overall this season Nicholas Owens has done way better than any of the expectations or goals I had set at the beginning of the season as they were very low. That's not to say that Owens had that great of a season, not even really a breakout season of any kind, but after my dismal rookie season I was fully expecting a sophomore season of around the same caliber as last. As for what I can attribute this success to, I would have to go with my great team around me along with my help I got from them on how to maximize my tpe output to create a good build at a relatively low tpe amount throughout the season. I mostly say my teammates because a lot of my offensive output is from assist which of course comes from my teammates able to score the puck into the net. Also individually my player isn't amazing but is able to put up good +/- and the such cause of the help of my other line mates.

Well, dang. Your team didn't make the finals this season - my condolences to you. Are you and your teammates planning on watching the finals even though you're not in it? If so, what are your watch parties like? If not, are you still following the finals or trying to ignore it completely? What are you and your teammates doing together (if anything) instead of following along? (if you're on Hamilton or New Orleans, or either of the 2 SMJHL teams that soon will be playing in the finals - congrats and sorry :p this one isn't for you!)

As a player of the Buffalo Stampede, a team that had lost to Hamilton in a 7 game series in the semi-finals, I am still a bit salty and bitter of how that series ended. As such it's a bit hard for me to watch the finals because I felt like my teammates and I should have definitely been there over the Hamilton Steelhawks. I know for a fact a lot of my teammates feel the same way. Especially as we had dominated the regular season and in the series we had came back from being down 3-1 to force a game 7 that had even gone to double over time. For hockey fans and players a like that is the perfect situation in sports, but to lose it that way is also equally as hard. I can't speak for the whole team but I know a good group of us have started to practice even harder after such a tough loss so we can go back there and make it to the challenge cup finals next season around.

c. The Specters won both regular season matchups, but Hamilton finished with better team stats overall. Do regular season head-to-heads provide an accurate forecast for a playoff series? (answer predictively if it hasn't happened yet; reactively if it has.)

A. In my opinion all though the finals are over and this answer as been given, I would have thought Kryyst as the better goal tender going into this series. Krysst is coming off a 7 game series in which he was clearly the mvp of the series for both teams as Buffalo struggled that whole series to get any pucks past him. Kryyst also just has been having a better season overall compared to Cain.
B. In my honest opinion I would have to go with Gabriel Johnson. I know that is a very controversial answer seeing as Gabe is a dumbfuck (love you gabe <3) and I dont mean any disrespect towards Darnell for saying hes worse than Gabe but Gabriel Johnson is just a better player and does so much for his team compared to Darnell. 
C. Well before the finals had happened I would say that it didn't matter too much. In my opinion playoff games are much different than regular season games and tactics are more shown through as the team would have previously played each other which would make Hamilton more of a favorite. That being said, NOLA had the better team on paper and proved that they could beat Hamilton in both the regular season and in the playoffs.
D. Not even gonna lie, I dont know anything about either New Orleans or Hamilton. That being said I would much rather go to Hamilton because it is located in Canada which is somewhere that I have always wanted to go. Well really I just want to leave the country for once but also because I think I would like it in Canada for it's cold weather... summer heat is rough as fuck.

It was honestly such a daunting task to take on the Hamilton Steelhawks and to attempt to come out victorious, but they did it regardless! In terms of a Simulation Hockey League Challenge Cup Finals Series Most Valuable Player, my personal and humble vote would most likely go to Jimmy Slothface, as they continuously fought vigorously to bring the victory back to New Orleans in such a fantastic manner. There is no way to argue against such an amazing player on the ice getting this most prestigious award, Slothface has earned it both on and off the ice.

Written, 3 TPE: Joseph Weston of the Calgary Dragons, my own unique and first generation player, first of his name, did not have nearly the best sophomore season as he, Joseph Weston, would have liked. Joseph Weston would have liked to produce more offensively while not being such a liability on the defensive side. This is obviously such a vague desire understandably, but still such a disappointment for Weston's development. Weston is proud that he was able to improve his defensive game in some aspects at least. This way Weston can continue being a power at both ends of the ice, despite the realities of training being a real circumstance that Weston must wrap his mind, and heart, around. Weston needs to be better of course, and this is something he has always strived to be. While regression is still a long ways off, there is still much to be done for Joseph Weston before that beast rears its head.

3. Written, 2 TPE: Sergei is an interesting case. There's no reason for anyone to think that something wrong has happened to Sergei, is there? He might just be enjoying a vacation, like one where Sergei has bought a boat that happens to have sails on it, maybe a sailboat, and is sailing around the Mediterranean Sea having a grand old time. Why would we just assume that there is something wrong with Sergei? That seems like such a defeatist attitude, we should instead be happy and thinking that Sergei is enjoying himself. He has great family and friends to look after him, after all.

Written, 3 TPE: After failing to win the Challenge Cup in such an excruciatingly painful sweep, the Hamilton Steelhawks General Manager came forward at a press conference to offer the following words: "We don’t have any words and we know you don’t want to hear them. We understand your anger, your frustration, your sadness. Everything you’re feeling – we get it. This isn’t the ending we imagined, and certainly not the one we wanted. Thank you for being there the entire way." Now obviously this is such a ridiculous parody of what has happened in both reality and fictional hockey universes, but after the outbursts some of us heard about this is probably the much better look for the Hamilton Steelhawks. You know what they say and all, haha ghost test simming go brrrrrr.

a. Cain has the largest advantage in net that anyone has ever seen. The memes that stand behind AC in net will overwhelm the ability of Hamilton to shoot and score, Cain will absolutely dominate the goalie battle here. There is no way that Kryyst has any sort of potential to live up to the challenge here.

c. Re-actively answering this question makes me want to burst out laughing because of how obvious it is. There is no circumstance where anyone should want to have the better overall stats compared to the regular season match-up stats, and the testing done has proven it. NOLA didn't just sweep the regular season, they swept Hamilton in both the Regular Season AND the Challenge Cup finals, honestly that's just embarrassing.

d. Lmao who would pick Hamilton? Who, outside of those who live there, has ever even heard of Hamilton? New Orleans would be a beautiful sight to see, especially around the Spring when Lent is coming up? Getting to visit New Orleans on an all expenses paid vacation would be such a dream, spent seeing the old town and all the history there.

EVO: Honestly, I fared better than I thought I would. I hit such a dark patch last season that I was heavily contemplating where I was as a player, and if there is one thing you never want to do, its to question your very being on the ice. Such showing will just spiral into despair, and it can only get worse from there. So, did I surpass my expectations lower than the Marianas Trench? Yes, I did. Does that mean I’m satisfied? Not really. I have still yet to make it to the playoffs and I know that the new crop of players will mean that I will need to do all I can to even have a chance of staying in a team. So then, for next season, I aim to improve myself physically. Having a nice shot is good and all, but it will mean little if you don’t have the body to support it, and that is my target. To support my skills with the body I currently have. It’s not much, but I’ll treat it as well as I can.

All you need to know is that I am a key in the search for a certain Sergei Kostitsyn. The latest information I have is that Sergei was last spotted in the outskirts of Darwin, Australia. He was with a few men as well. Bodyguards, spies, kidnappers, I’m afraid I don’t have the information on that. I can however hint that Sergei spoke of wanting to at least see the Great Barrier Reef, so if he ends up there, you have yours truly to thank.

S54 IIHF Predictions - with one FHM IIHF season under our belt, we've got a bit more of a sense of how the tournament might play out in the new sim engine. What are your predictions for the S54 IIHF or WJC tournament - how do you think your team will fare this season? Who do you think are the biggest contenders to take home the hardware and why?

Foulke: Last season, Team GB made quick work of the group they were in and eased our way against their first opponent in the knockouts. Unfortunately for us, we ran against the eventual gold medallist, Team USA, in the semi-finals. It was a close affair, but in the end, we came up short. It didn’t stop us from dismantling Canada in the Bronze Medal match. This season, we have lost Harvey Danger and Cedric Robinson to retirement, which are blows for us, but the young players brought in to replace them are very capable and will serve Team GB very well for the coming years. As for the current core, the forwards have taken major leaps in their skill level whilst the veteran defensemen are keeping up with new tricks. I am very confident that this team will be a contender to receive what could be a third medal in a row, and I would very much like it to be a gold like my first tourney.

EVO: When all is said and done, old man Joe Kurczewski, the longest-serving player not named Cleo Green will be a first ballot hall of famer. NOLA’s captain at centre, already decorated with not one, not two, not three, but four Four-Star Cups from his time in Calgary and Edmonton, is on course to get his fifth with the team that he founded. There isn’t really any comparison to the success and longevity of this guy, so whilst you can, watch every last moment of him whilst you can, because this unicorn is indeed a SHL treasure that should be cherish as long as the SHL lives.

This season was a good one for Carolina Kraken defenseman Ambacas Cuddles. The team had a much better season compared to last. Last season, a lot was on Cuddles as the clear number one defenseman with a weaker d core. This season with the emergence of Adam Friedland and Ben Van Dyke along with the rookies Axel Foley and Conner Hutton, less pressure was out on Cuddles and he had a much better season because of it. Ambacas Cuddles really owes it to his teammates for stepping up immensely this season. Having the support of the rest of the guys out there is the best and really allows him to looser up and focus on what he is good at, rather than having to focus on doing everything. Cuddles, and the rest of the Kraken had a great season which ended in an unforgettable victory in the Four Star Cup finals.

Where Sergei you ask? Well I would have to be a rat to tell you that, and I ain't no rat you can bet your ass. The day I snitch is the day I die. My boys took him and he will never be seen again and I will never spill the beans on where Sergei is. Andrei has been looking far and wide for his brother but with no luck. We got that man locked down, he will never be found. The gang is too strong for the likes of Andrei, he will never ever get to him while we got him.

Out of the players that played in the finals this season, I think that there is one obvious choice from each team. On the Steelhawks side, I think Robert Phelps is an obvious choice for the hall of fame. Phelps is one of the best players of this modern era and is a legend. On the Specters side, Joe K is as much of a lock as there is, one of the best players of all time and a playoff god. Joe K will surely be a first ballot hall of famer and will go down of one of the best players in league history.

This IIHF tournament should be very interesting and a lot of fun. With one season of FHM in the books, team management and coaching has gotten a lot better as each team has learned about how the sim works. I think that the best choices for who is going to have a good tournament is USA, Canada, and Czechia. I think that those three will get the gold silver and bronze not in any particular order. Those three rosters have the most starpower and most depth on them. The only weakness i see in these teams is the goaltending of team canada. However, they do have young up and coming goalie who just won a four star cup with the carolina kraken, Frans Eller. Frans Eller coming through the ranks should really help the Canadians contend for a gold for a long time. He will be a stud of a goalie for them an they will be a hard team to beat.

With only one champion in the SHL and the SMJHL per season, that means the other 26 teams came up just a bit short (or a lot short). Team owners know that fans can get frustrated by shortcomings, so they're always trying to keep optimism high in the fan base. Written option: give an excerpt from an ousted team's owner's press conference at the end of the season focusing on the team's bright future or however they can keep fans' optimism high. Graphic option: the team has rented a billboard in town with an inspiring message to fans to keep optimism high; show the billboard (must include team logo and whatever the optimistic message is).

After a historic 0-50-0 season that saw the Tampa Bay Barracudas go without a single point, the fans of the Cudas surely had a lot of questions for the new GM who was just hired.

"Well fans, we sure do have a lot on our plate here in Tampa Bay. Im sure you all are aware of how last season went and I want to do my best to make sure that doesn't happen again. While it should be known that will not contend for quite a few seasons, we will not lose every game this season. I think I can speak for everyone when I say, I have not looked for his brother. Have you seen the leaked hospital reports on Kostitsyn? Guy is nuts. I do not think his brother exists at this point. If his brother does exist, than I would need to see the proof. I find it hard to believe that someone would stop talking to their own brother for no reason. What if this whole brother thing is a cover up and his brother is really alive and well in a known location. What if he is a sp..... Brother is missing, no brother heeere.

Out of both teams, one player stands out. Like really stands out. Joe Kurczewski. The guy is a legend already and is still playing. Though I hear hints of retirement are in his future. Joe has been easily one of the best players of all time. All time Playoff points leader, Captain America, mentor to young players, I could go on and on and on. Joe is a first ballot Hall of Famer, no doubt in my mind. He has the hardware and the stats to back it up. Look up his all time stats, then check his cups and awards. Welcome to the Joe Train.

a. These are absolutely two of the best goaltenders in the league in Cain and Kryyst - which team has the advantage in net in this series?
I like to think that both goalies are great in their own way. Kryyst is great and has been here before. Cain has been a brick wall when he really needed to be. I have to say Cain has the advantage due to being the HIGHEST TPE goalie in the league. [51]

b. There are two Johnsons in this series - Gabriel (HAM) and Darnell (NOLA). In fact, the two used to host the Johnson & Johnson Podcast together, but they're now on the ice as bitter rivals. Which team has the better Johnson?
It depends on how you measure better. In my mind Darnell is the better Johnson. I think everyone knows that too. Darnell has a real mind for the game and is willing to do whatever is needed for the team. A real team first guy, plus he is on the superior Specters. [52]

c. The Specters won both regular season matchups, but Hamilton finished with better team stats overall. Do regular season head-to-heads provide an accurate forecast for a playoff series? (answer predictively if it hasn't happened yet; reactively if it has.)
I do not think regular season stats will matter this match-up. Hamilton plays in the weaker East while the Specters are in the much harder West. I think the out come of this series is proof of that. Kryyst gave HAM the chance but unfortunately the Specters were that much better. [51]

d. If SDCore offered you an all-expenses paid week-long vacation to either New Orleans or Hamilton, which city would you choose to go to? (tough choice I know lol.) How would you spend your time there?

New Orleans and I live there. He can just make my monthly payments on my house and car and throw me a blank check for groceries. I would not want a vacation in Hamilton, who would want that? Not me. New Orleans has so much more to see and do, it would be a crime not to take a vacation there. [61]

If I had to pick one person who deserves the MVP vote for this series only, I would say Nicholas Williams. I know that is my own player but hear me out. Williams was outstanding in the four games against Hamilton. Defensively sound forward who put up points as well. The key to his success was how good he was in the face off dot. Most of my goals came at very important times when the Specters really needed to score. If I had to not be selfish, my pick would be Aleister Cain. Cain was lights out when he needed to be and showed why he is such a great goalie.

+3 1. This year for luffy was a huge rollercoaster of emotions. He started the season at the bottom of his team in terms of production and things were looking bleak along with his new linemate kholin striving. Quickly after his short bottom start he bolted into action with a five point game and his points sky rocketed very quickly. There were a couple cold streaks but finishing at an amazing 70 points put him in top 5 for points this season. Him and his new linemate kholin finally found their stride and the season seemed to fall in place. This was good and bad for our hero as he always strived for excellence and first place. Still being far behind lagerfield is kind of disappointing but it's hard to complain about a top 5 finish in one of the best leagues in the world. We all know our hero will pull out some awards next year. 

+3 2. This year was very disappointing to lose again to the WOAT ass hammy steel cocks. Luffy couldn't bear to watch them reach another finals or heavan forbid them taking another cups from the hands of the more deserving stampede. It turns out all was good in the world this hear and the new Orleans specters finally showed who was who and stomped the cheat hawks so far into the ground I don't think we'll be able to find them next year. Instead of watching this season luffy deciding to hit the links hard and work on his golf game. He'll need a lot practice for when retirement hits and there will be no more pucks left to hit top shelf and only golf balls to smash 350. Next year luffy refuses to be watching anything to do with the finals, because he knows in his heart of hearts he'll be the one there and he'll be the first one hoisting the cup as captain as the buffalo stampede. 

+3 4. This season Japan is finally hitting it's stride and growing up from infancy. 8 years in the making and this roster is trying to stand out with smebs and luffy at the helm. Last year started on a heater as japan was dumpster more mature rosters like Germany but somehow fell completely flat after that not managing to win a game after the first day which saw them crushing. This year japan might make a splash with our new goalies coming into their own and everyone starting to work together better as a whole roster. The smeb bunch have been playing together since infancy so they have unmatched talent when playing together. The IIHF shows some of the best talent in the world so it's hard to get your feet out of the ground and it's easy to splutter really quickly if you can't catch your footing. Hopefully japan will hit the ground running this year.

+4 13 A)The stud here has to go to kryyst right now. Cain is an absolute stud in his own right but when it comes to cloth playoffs kryyst just has the upper hand. This battle comes down to the goalies for sure but Cain just hasn't proved his playoff mental yet.

B) I hate to give the win again to hammie but I have to go with Gabe Johnson as the best Johnson in this series. Not only is he the superior player here but he has the bigger dong which really needs to be talked about when you are trying to compare the best Johnson on either team.

C) It's really hard to predict with such a small sample size but ham usually has the better strats overall here but if we delve deeper we can see the this is rock paper scissors here, and if ham is rock well Nola is paper and they have the upper hand here.

D) It's really a no brainer here. Would you rather go to bum fuck nowhere middle of Canada or party central new Orleans? Clearly luffy would party it up in new Orleans and have the time of his life on smelly sdcs dime and drink himself into a coma to hurt sdcs pockets.

Reflection on your season - how did your player fare on the ice this season? Did you meet or surpass your individual player goals or did you come up short? Whether you excelled or disappointed - what can you attribute that to? What will you try to do better next season?

This season was a weird season for me because in a way I met all my expectations, but I still ended up disappointed at the end of the season, or at least not *fully* content. My goals for this season were simple, make the playoffs and post career high numbers by going ppg. Both of those were accomplished as Chicago managed to make the playoffs this season and I managed to get 61 points, finishing way above ppg. The problem was that in the grand scheme of things my numbers still felt underwhelming. I had the least points on my line with both my line mates getting over 70 points each and my 61 points weren't enough to put me in the top 10 in league scoring so while 61 points is impressive and absolutely smashed my career points record, it left me a little disappointed because I want my player to have a legacy and to be remembered as one of the SHL's greats but that wouldn't be possible if I'm not consistently among the league's top scorers. For next season I definitely need to improve that, I'll be at around 1800 TPE and would like to see myself among the league's top 5 scorers.

Well, dang. Your team didn't make the finals this season - my condolences to you. Are you and your teammates planning on watching the finals even though you're not in it? If so, what are your watch parties like? If not, are you still following the finals or trying to ignore it completely? What are you and your teammates doing together (if anything) instead of following along? (if you're on Hamilton or New Orleans, or either of the 2 SMJHL teams that soon will be playing in the finals - congrats and sorry :p this one isn't for you!)

After his disappointing first round exit, Lallo decided to take a round off from watching hockey to not have to deal with the disappointment. However with finals coming along he really wanted to watch it but wanted a way to do it that wouldn't be depressing so he had to come up with an idea for watching the finals in a fun way. He ended up getting together with a group of his teammates as well as other players from around the league and created a group of 8 players who decided to go watch all of the finals games at Femboy Hooters. Why Femboy Hooters? Well it's simple really, one they were showing the games on their TVs, two they have great food, and three who wouldn't want to watch hockey while being served food by cute twinks in short shorts and crop tops? Sounds like an absolute dream come true and it is. This group of players is out here watching the finals and breaking hockey norms and we all absolutely love to see it.

Occasionally, broadcast networks will bring an active player into the TV coverage of ongoing finals if their team has been eliminated, and that player is often to give unique insights from a current player's perspective. During this NOLA-HAM finals, which SHL player or prospect would be a good addition to the Challenge Cup TV coverage? Why would that player be a good addition to the broadcast team?

In my completely unbiased and honest opinion, the best player to bring to the broadcast team covering the Challenge Cup would be Chicago's star winger Lallo Selman. As a star young player, Lallo is a player who excites fans and will draw people into the broadcast just to hear what he has to say. I also think that his personality makes him a fantastic entertainer. Hockey coverage is always to serious and most attempts at humour are just things that old men laugh at, bringing in a young player like him can add an interesting dynamic from an entertainment perspective which can help draw even more fans to the broadcast. Lallo wants to see hockey grow and knows that in order to do that, the broadcasts need to be more attractive and provide more entertainment value. Would people rather see a boring analysis from a mediocre ex player or failed GM or would they rather see one of the league's young stars charm people with his personality and shade players in the Hamilton-New Orleans series? I think I know the answer.

Following their loss in the SMJHL finals, the owner of the Anaheim Outlaws released a statement intended to address the team's shortcomings to the fans. Here it is:

We know that all of you were ready to celebrate yet another Outlaws championship as you have become used to success in this team's short history. Possibly the easiest decision we could ever make but I'm obviously choosing to go to New Orleans and not some crappy Toronto suburb. Reflection on your season - how did your player fare on the ice this season? Did you meet or surpass your individual player goals or did you come up short? Whether you excelled or disappointed - what can you attribute that to? What will you try to do better next season?

Sasha Dangelchek’s first season for New England was somewhat of a disappointment. We all knew that he was coming in at a fairly low TPE level and wouldn’t necessarily be an impact player right off the bat, but his play was at a lower level than I would have hoped. This upcoming season, more time and money will be spent on weekly trainings and personal training, and hopefully Sasha can get to a TPE level where he can have a better impact on the game. I’m hoping to get a league job where I can gain that money for the things I need to buy. Sasha will be a better player in Season 55.
That being said, it wasn’t an awful debut for Sasha either. Whereas he didn’t frequently have a super positive impact on the game, he rarely made huge mistakes either. He was a serviceable bottom-six player. For the first season in the SHL proper, I think he played about as well as expected. – 166 words

Well, dang. Your team didn't make the finals this season - my condolences to you. Are you and your teammates planning on watching the finals even though you're not in it? If so, what are your watch parties like? If not, are you still following the finals or trying to ignore it completely? What are you and your teammates doing together (if anything) instead of following along? (if you're on Hamilton or New Orleans, or either of the 2 SMJHL teams that soon will be playing in the finals - congrats and sorry :p this one isn't for you!)

In New England, you know we like to party and usually party pretty damn hard. So we’ll use any excuse to get together to cause a little ruckus. Now, we were all disappointed in the season we had this year. So this is also an excuse for us to blow off some steam. We’ll “watch” the games – really just in the background – but we’ll mostly use the time to get together as a team and raise our morale. And probably drink more than a few White Claws, especially once you get Dangelchek and @Zomp together. Those two boys love their claws. We’ll commiserate over our lost season and look ahead to the future. We’re a pretty tight-knit group up in New England, so I’d assume the whole team would be there. We also don’t really have any other friends so what the hell else are we going to be doing? – 152 words

It has been publicized a decent amount on this site but Hamilton prospect Andrei Kostitsyn's brother Sergei appears to be missing. Does anybody know where Sergei? What have you done/what can you do to help Andrei track down his brother?

As we all know, Andrei has been traded to the Wolfpack so I’ve started to get to know him personally. I can understand the concern about Sergei, but I wouldn’t necessarily say he’s missing. I’d say he’s more “misplaced”. I’m sure Sergei is sitting back in his dacha somewhere with his woman or man, enjoying his life.
I’m personally willing to help Andrei locate his brother at his dacha. I’m assuming that it comes with a nice hefty reward, and maybe personal use of said dacha – cottage in Russia for those who don’t know – and maybe even airfare out there. Who knows what Andrei might do for his brother? – 111 words

I think the Challenge Cup has shown that head-to-head can be a great predictor of postseason success. New Orleans didn’t lose a single game to Hamilton this season, Challenge Cup included. If one team just has the other’s number, it can be borne out in those head-to-head stats. I’m honestly not sure if New Orleans was necessarily the better team overall; in fact, I don’t think they were. But they certainly were better when playing Hamilton, and that’s what matters. – 80 words

d. If SDCore offered you an all-expenses paid week-long vacation to either New Orleans or Hamilton, which city would you choose to go to? (tough choice I know lol.) How would you spend your time there?

I’d definitely choose Hamil-haha who am I kidding? New Orleans is supposed to be one of the most dope cities in the United States. They have great music and I’d love to see a second-line parade. That’s when a group of people follows a jazz band down the street, drinking and dancing. I’ve always wanted to visit New Orleans in real life – like my actual life -  and if someone else is paying, I’m certainly there. – 77 words

Yes I have heard the news about this tragic event. Now I will try to help out by doing my best. What I will do is I will hire some smelling dogs and they will smell all around the world for Sergei! I have his scent in my backpack so they will use that as a base. Then I will also use donuts to bait him out of the hiding locations he may be in because he may be in hiding. In case he is in the ocean, we cannot use donuts because they will get too wet so I will instead bait him out with bags of hot chip. I will find him.

Which player from the Steelhawks or Specters has a great chance to make the Hall of Fame when their playing days are up? Make the case for that player's HOF bid.

I will say that the Hall of Famer right now is the guy on the Steelhawks, by the name of Flacko Lagerfield. While he may be the second best SHL player to have the name of Flacko in his name, I think his record also does speak for itself. He scored an amazing 84 points this season which is now a record set in the stones of the SHL history world. But he has won MVP awards before as well as other awards. He has shined bright through his career and even has a cup to his name. He has been point scoring machine and with such a high level peak, it can be good enough for him to be enshrined in the halls of the SHL.

a. I would say that the Steelhawks' goaltender Geezus Kryyst came into the series with the advantage in net. He was lights out against the Buffalo Stampede, who got stopped cold in their tracks after a dominant regular season. With that hot play from him, I just thought it was so much more than Aleister Cain, who still is a very great goaltender in the league. But I knew it would be maybe a battle there but it was rather Aleister Cain who came out on top here.
b. They are both good Johnsons so it is hard to choose which Johnson is the best Johnson. Now I would say Gabriel Johnson of the Hamilton Steelhawks is normally the better Johnson of the Johnsons but this playoffs, I cannot possibly say that Gabriel is the better Johnson for now. Darnell did a great job for the Specters and proved to be an important part of their cup win.
c. I would say that the regular season head to head is only a very small part of how a playoff series would go. Obviously, it was a good predictor but I don't know if that is why the Specters won. There are often very different concerns at hand in regular season games as opposed to the playoffs. In the playoffs, you really get the chance to plan for the opponent, moreso than in your regular season games. So it will not always be accurate.
d. Obviously I would have to choose New Orleans because I don't even know what is in Hamilton besides the Hamilton Steelhawks and New orleans is a city I really want to see and go to. When I go I will eat the New Orleans foods and go on some tours and get some nice drinks and maybe I can even go during Mardi Gras because that would be really great to see as well. I would get many beads so that I could look extra nice for when I come home.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Reflecting back on the series, who gets your vote for series MVP? Make the case why this player deserves it over any other.

In my opinion, the MVP must be Lil Manius of the New Orleans Specters because he was just great all around and really helped the team win the Challenge Cup! He led all playoff players in points, goals, plus minus, hits, like wow that is some really impressive play right there from the New Orleans forward! He really did his best out there and he definitely had a major role in why the Specters were able to secure a championship in the SHL! But his contribution also went further are he just did so much on that team in a good way for being a leader.
