S56 mPT #0 - Bold (ish) Predictions
#31

Neither expansion team will make the playoffs

Against - I think with a bunch of free agents choosing to sign with Atlanta and a top defenseman like Zheng, Atlanta is pretty clearly the third best team in their division. A much harder road for Seattle at this point, but I think it's a good bet that we see the Inferno make it

There will be no major scandals during the season

Bold statement, even if the standards on what passes for scandal in SHL have dropped a lot over the years, people love to get outraged and for that reason alone something will come up that will spark heated debate. Hopefully the reason for it is not sim related.

Monkey D Luffy, extra TPE and all, will have a worse season than he did in S55

I think it would be very fitting for luffy to have a worse season that last. To be fair buffalo is a little weaker this season so it will be hard to put up the same performance, but i have high hopes for the superstar if IIHF had any news to say abouyt that. 6 point games dont just come around all the time

Code:
Tampa Bay will not finish with the worst record this season - San Francisco will

Incorrect. While Tampa Bay's young player core has matured another year, making them a good bit stronger than last season, they're not quite there yet. SFP has lost quite a few players but should still have enough quality left to not finish the season with the absolute worst record in the league. For what it's worth, at least neither team is going to go 0-50-0 this season.

Code:
The Toronto North Stars will finish with fewer points than the Seattle Argonauts

Correct. The Seattle Argonauts didn't do bad in the expansion draft, or in picking up FA's and doing some strong trades in the time since the draft. However, they're very defense-heavy and don't actually have a lot fo quality forwards except for Bo Kane. Toronto is in a similar spot, maybe a bit more balanced. It'll come down to quality of GMing in this matchup and I'm going to assume Tig has a solid plan and can get his Argonauts to cause a few upsets along the way.

Code:
Neither expansion team will make the playoffs

Correct. I'm expecting both to get close to that last PO spot, and give the older teams a run for their money; but in the end roster depth is going to be an issue for them. Of the two teams, Atlanta may actually have the best shot, despite Seattle having a bit more roster strength. They're in the easier of the two conferences and with RNG falling their way on the right moments could sneak into the POs. But realistically, I don't see that happening just yet this season.

Code:
Chicago will win the President's Trophy

Incorrect. Chicago seems to have noticed their window for competing is starting to close on them and they've decided to go full throttle into this season. They bought another high TPE at the cost of futures they'll need for a rebuild, indicating they believe this should be the season they can grab a trophy if not the cup. However, The Steelhawks have made a few solid trades to strengthen an already strong team. Given their roster, and the way they've squeezed the maximum out of it last few seasons I don't see the President's Trophy going anywhere else than Hamilton.

Code:
Texas will be the top team in the Western Conference

Correct. With NOLA losing their goalie, and a few high TPE players, LAP bleeding TPE and EDM not getting stronger either, the door is open for a team that has been on the rise for the last 2-3 seasons to compete for the top spot. It's going to take a lot of hard work from their GMs in figuring out optimal lines and strategies and will depend on their players progression through the season but I could see the Texas team finishing first in their conference this season.

Code:
The winner of the McBride Award (top goaltender) will come from the Atlantic Division

Correct. Eller had a pretty much perfect rookie season, coming close to winning the Mcbride as a rookie. The addition of Atlanta to their division, next to Baltimore and Tampa Bay are going to ensure he gets a good number of low quality shots to make easy saves on again. He should be able to repeat last season's performance and end the season with a high sv% again.

Code:
New Orleans will see a significant decline and barely make the playoffs

Correct. New Orleans has lost quite a bit, but so have a few other teams in their conference. They're going to see a drop in performance compared to last season and won't be in the running for the top few PO spots. They're most likely to compete for the last spot in the post season, and it's going to be a tough battle for them.

Code:
The long reign of Edmonton and Calgary is over - neither of these teams will finish the season atop the Northwest Division standings

Incorrect. Edmonton probably dropped out of the race a bit, but Calgary should still be able to beat the rest of their division to the top spot. Their roster has aged another year, and not in a good way, but they should still have enough TPE left in their tank to win this division one last time before the rebuilding teams take over.

Code:
Neither Buffalo nor Hamilton will make the Challenge Cup finals

Incorrect. In fact, I believe both these teams have only grown stronger during this offseason. Unless they meet earlier in the playoffs, I believe both of these teams should be able to beat any other competitor and both end up in the Challenge Cup Finals.

Code:
There will be no major scandals during the season

Incorrect. As long as there are teams that will jump at any shady opportunity to gain an edge on their opponents, there will be scandals. Especcially if they keep getting away with it.

Code:
Monkey D Luffy, extra TPE and all, will have a worse season than he did in S55

Correct. Purely on his own TPE and skill alone, Luffy should have a better season than last obviously. However, Great Lakes Division has grown stronger and Luffy and the Stampede will face tougher opponents than last season. That'll hurt his stats more than the extra TPE he gained.

Code:
Someone from the S53 draft class will win rookie of the year

Correct. And unless one of the goalies decides to have a star player season again, it could be a player like Rocco Berni. Getting 2nd line minutes, and being in the mix for PP and probably PK time as well, Berni should have plenty of opportunities to showcase his skills and grab that Jesster.

Code:
The Nevada Battleborn will win the Four Star Cup

Incorrect. What have you been smoking? If you'd have said Quebec I might've considered it for a second, but Nevada is not even going to come close to winning the cup and will need some huge luck and RNG to even make it into the playoffs.

Code:
The Detroit Falcons will return to dominance and be a top 3 team in the SMJHL regular season

Incorrect. The Falcons have lost most of their S53 stars by now, are already losing some of their S54s to callups as well and the last of their S52s have aged out. They'll be back in the running for top spot soon again, but this is not going to be their season yet.

Code:
The Nevada Battleborn will win the Four Star Cup

Not a bold prediction in the slightest. Defense wins championships and the Nevada Battleborn have a defensive squad that should be all maxed out in tpe in front of two maxed out tpe goaltenders. Offense might be an issue but as long as the Battleborn can find a way to win 2-1/1-0 games the sky will be the limit and a 4 Star Cup should be in their grasp.

Texas will be the top team in the Western Conference

I think this could very well happen. The TPE gap between us and the previous top teams in the west has tightened a lot over the offseason, and with the level of coaching we have, its definitely possible that we’re able to push through and take the top spot in the west

Quote:Monkey D Luffy, extra TPE and all, will have a worse season than he did in S55

Agree. Don't get me wrong, Luffy is a fantastic player but he played with one of the best if not THE best teams of all time around him last season and while Buffalo still has a great roster, they don't quite have that same overwhelming punch anymore. Unlike in STHS, where having a strong overall roster would often hurt your individual stats, it definitely helps you in FHM. And while he received quite a lot of TPE for next season, I don't think they will be all that significant for a player already so high in attribute points, so they won't be enough to upset the loss talent around him.

Quote:Monkey D Luffy, extra TPE and all, will have a worse season than he did in S55

This is NOT A BOLD PREDICTION simply because the Buffalo Stampede lost many key contributors to Luffy's success. Cassius Darrow was taken in the expansion draft by the Seattle Argonauts, Michael Scarn chased the money and signed for $9.5m with Hamilton, and Viktor Marius is off into the sunset on a beach drinking cocktails enjoying retirement.

The loss of so many skilled players puts Luffy in a worse position to surmount the monstrous season he had in S55. The expectations are high, but they should be tempered simply because of the extreme loss of talent on the Stampede.

There will be no major scandals during the season

It does not matter what season it is, there will always be a major scandal. This is the SHL we are talking about here after all.

there is not a shot in hell that anyone beats Rikard Hammarberg for ROTY in the SHL this season so im gonna have to be for that one. Early predictions have him playing on a line possibly with Morgan and Miller which might be all he needs to get over 40 points.

Quote:The Toronto North Stars will finish with fewer points than the Seattle Argonauts

This is wrong, oh so wrong.
While this might only be a hunch, Toronto somehow feel weaker with the departures during the offseason.

Argonauts on the other hand feels strong right out of the gate.

Completely wrong. These 2 teams are still going to be strong play-off teams and going to be battling it for the division title. I do know see the other teams getting close considering the gap that has damn near always existed.

There will be no major scandals during the season

First time in the SHL? This place feasts upon scandal. Even if there truly isn’t a need for a good old fashioned scandal, we will fabricate one for the clicks. They’re the lifeblood of this league.

Neither expansion team will make the playoffs

In my opinion the two SHL Expansion teams will not have any chance this season for a playoff spot. I can smell it maybe for next season but not this one. In my opinion its also better to have a smooth start and not a rushing start with a deep fall.
