There will be no major scandals during the season

Agaisnt: Are you fucking kidding me? What rock have you been hiding under? This is the SHL. Barely a week or two goes by without a scandal. Sometimes I think people do them on purpose like the Renegades of old just to keep the boredom away. People will always try and dig and find something someone fucked up, just the way the SHL rolls.

Quote:There will be no major scandals during the season

Imagine a time where there was no scandals. I just do not believe it at all. I think there are scandals so much in every league, so I really doubt that this will be the case. I see a major scandal happening sooner than later. I hate to be a pessimist, I really do, but a league with no scandals is just not possible. Look at how many members that we have in this league, do you really think that a scandal will not happen? Now, what do we consider a scandal? Does it have to be on a larger scale or can it be some minor drama? I mean, I guess it really depends on what a scandal is. According to the dictionary, a scandal is "an action or event regarded as morally or legally wrong and causing general public outrage." So, that could be some drama by the definition. So, I stick to my original thought that there will be drama. I am not sure if people realize how widespread that scandals could be.

There will be no major scandals during the season

Against, people in the SHL can't stop themselves whether it is trying to find an edge to the sim or gathering up your discord friends to brigade troll a thread. I think a lot of people here actually thrive off the drama and scandals, and there is always likely something fucky going on.

Code:
Tampa Bay will not finish with the worst record this season - San Francisco will
Against: Tampa Bay is trending up and making the right moves under Trella's guidance, but it won't be enough. Despite the Pride's incredibly poor cap management and cartoonish surplus of sub 500 players, the West is soft this season and they'll be able to eek out at least one more point than the Barracuda.

Code:
The Toronto North Stars will finish with fewer points than the Seattle Argonauts
For: I like the Stars and their roster, and Carpy has the most TPE of any goalie around, but I'm curious to see how the expansion teams have managed their budgets. They are getting clean slates to pick players that they know will be growing throughout the season, as well as inactives who fell asleep at just the right TPE/Price combo to make them effective.

Code:
Neither expansion team will make the playoffs
Against: This one is a bit of a toss-up. The West has never been weaker and more open. Honestly, no one in the West is a lock for playoffs, which means that a supple young argonauts team could find themselves in the 4th spot easily.

Code:
Chicago will win the President's Trophy
Against: Chicago is the anti clutch, particularly when paired against the likes of Hamilton and Buffalo's victory machines. Their roster is very impressive, but their window has been open for a few seasons now and they've done nothing with it except rebrand. I don't see what changes this season.

Code:
Texas will be the top team in the Western Conference
For: I always trust Keygan to pull something out of Blake Lively's ass and get Edmonton to the top of the conference, but with a weaker roster than normal, and Pepperoni lowered to mortal status, and Calgary's window lowering faster than normal, this is an easy season for Texas to jump in and make a splash. Howdy.

Code:
The winner of the McBride Award (top goaltender) will come from the Atlantic Division
For: Carpet and McDoyle are at the tops of their game. Carpet doesn't get enough credit for the team that's in front of him. He pulls all of the weight in Toronto and is responsible for the slow culture shift there.

Code:
New Orleans will see a significant decline and barely make the playoffs
For: With some unplanned departures, some planned ones, and one surprise planned one, New Orleans is nowhere close to as powerful as they were two weeks ago / last season. with the heavy line restructuring that they will need to do, I could see them missing the post season.

Code:
The long reign of Edmonton and Calgary is over - neither of these teams will finish the season atop the Northwest Division standings
Against: Kind of. One of them will, but they are much weaker than their previous ten seasons, and a first-round matchup against one of them is not a death sentence. Minnesota, Seattle, and Winnipeg are not strong enough to push into the top tier yet, so Calgary and Edmonton will get to keep their pants on and shit free for at least one more season.

Code:
Neither Buffalo nor Hamilton will make the Challenge Cup finals
For: The self-cannibalizing (redundant?) eastern conference has a steamy hot Manhattan ready to shake things up and win it all again. With an easy eastern conference regular schedule, outside of those titans + Chicago, any of those teams should be ready and available to win the Challenge Cup.

Code:
Monkey D Luffy, extra TPE and all, will have a worse season than he did in S55
For: That would be funny as hell and a little sad. Luffy is a great player to watch and clearly knows whats best for his team on and around the ice. Finding out that he got jobbed like that was very disappointing, particularly for a player who was as committed to earning and achieving as much as Luffy did. Him topping his awesome s55 though will still be tricky. I'm looking forward to establishing a new meta, where it turns out you needed all of those extra TPE in fighting in order to be successful.

i'm arguing that this bold prediction is flat-out wrong. While I agree Calgary and Edmonton have lost steps, especially after losing good players in the expansion draft, there simply isn't a contender in the NW division to perform better than both of the Alberta teams right now. Minnesota is still pushing through the rebuild, and is very shallow beyond their top line and Seger on D. Winnipeg has improved, but doesn't boast the depth of Calgary nor the explosiveness of Edmonton's top lines/pairings. Seattle put together a good expansion team, and they might defy some odds and make the playoffs, but on paper is not a contender to place higher than both Calgary and Edmonton for top of the Northwest.

I don't think this is a bold prediction. Tampa has improved since their 0-50-0 season while SFP signed a lot of low-tpe inactives this offseason, not to mention that they traded most, if not all, of the good players they had. So I can see SFP finishing last in the league.

Chicago will win the President's Trophy

This is the boldest prediction of all time, ever. And its just so, so wrong. I mean, I feel bad for Chicago. They're right at their peak window to do some damage and win cups, and yet they're still the 3rd best team in their own division. Buffalo has just been so good for so long, and then Hamilton, just when it looks like they'll take a step back, pulls off some ridiculous roster wizardry and ends up building a new monster.

Godspeed Chicago.

The Toronto North Stars will finish with fewer points than the Seattle Argonauts
Is this a hot take? These teams seem extremely even. Toronto has their TPE a lot more even with Harry Carpet and Mika Kadinsky being the big outliers for them in terms of high amount, and Darrow and Tig being the highest for Seattle. The biggest difference, I feel, is in net. Seattle isn't that impressive in net, Toronto has Harry Carpet. However, Frans Eller proved that a lesser TPE amount goalie can be just as good as the top of the league. So that seems less important, but they are so even beyond that I actually think the North Stars will finish higher than the Argonauts sans sim luck/superior regular season tactics

This is totally wrong. Edmonton is in many ways even stronger with a huge upside going into the season. With the influx of youth, there will be fierce competition within the team for ice time. It should be a very good season in Edmonton and I expect them to be on top at the end of the season.

Code:
Neither Buffalo nor Hamilton will make the Challenge Cup finals

This is not that bold, as Chicago is the only logical choice for winning the Challenge Cup. Chicago is using his beer guzzling skills to leverage his beer distributor connections into banning the distribution of alcohol in all cities who passed on him. It is believe this may have a severe impact on all teams and bring the Cup to Chicago.

Someone from the S53 draft class will win rookie of the year
I mean, come on, have you seen the crop of forwards coming up this year from the S53 class? So many top earners graduating to the SHL, all of whom are within reach of 1K TPE by the start of the season - we're going to see a scoring explosion this year unlike any other with how thin defenses have been stretched across the league thanks to expansion, and these rookies are here to take advantage of that.

Code:
Neither expansion team will make the playoffs

This one is completely wrong. Though I wouldn't be surprised to see Seattle miss, there is no way Atlanta misses after their off-season moves. They are in a weaker division with Baltimore, Tampa Bay and New England. New England will make it and Atlanta will sneak in right behind them.

The Nevada Battleborn will win the Four Star Cup

This is just wrong. How can any objective person look at the SMJHL and think the Battleborn have the best team? The Vancouver Whalers have 5 425 wingers and 3 425 defenseman and a 425 goalie. They should easily win the four star cup. Suggesting otherwise is silly and a waste of time.

Neither Buffalo nor Hamilton will make the Challenge Cup finals
(a) - pick one of the below predictions and explain why it's WRONG

This statement to me is absolutely wrong, Buffalo was the top team last season and even though they did lose some pieces this off season they still have their core guys to carry them. Plus the next wave of future shl stars are making their way into the lineup and will contribute significantly.  Guys like, Alexander Roach, Steve Harrington and Jaska Seppälä are all at or just flirting with a 1k tpe build.  I also think Wang will have a breakouyt season and already regret not picking him up in fantasy draft.

In Hamilton's case, well they did great last season and without insulting their goal tending, they did it with inferior goalies compared to the top teams in the league.  A year more mature, better builds and a stacked offense, why not send them straight into the finals!  Additions of Scarn and Morgan this off season coupled with last seasons big addition Clapper, A.Wilson will have a plethora of toys to dish the puck too and exploit any kind of defensive tactics sent his way.

Code:
The Toronto North Stars will finish with fewer points than the Seattle Argonauts

I think this is wrong because Seattle seems like the lesser of the two expansion teams, as far as quality of team is concerned. But I'm also a dunce who knows nothing about the new sim engine, so I could be wrong. I think Toronto will edge out Seattle.
