I'm doing the same thing I always do with it, handing it over to the accountant and letting them take care of it. They'll work with the wife on our budgeting, and I don't have to care about it much. I get some of it in a separate account just for me, as the wife does the same, but ultimately I rarely do anything with it and it just sits there.
I've used the majority of it toward a Roth IRA for the kids, trying to build out a good fund for them because while I've enjoyed a good life and have plenty of money for them in the future, I'd like to be sure that they're secure in case anything were to happen. I may take advantage of circumstances and maybe buy a few things to set up fun nights with the wife and kids, trying to give them the best time possible in an extremely difficult situation. I'm just a boring person though, and would rather focus on making my kids days and making meaningful memories. I've been away so much for hockey, I owe it to them to make every second I'm home about them and so I do with everything I have. An old man's dream ended. A young man's vision of the future opened wide. Young men have visions, old men have dreams. But the place for old men to dream is beside the fire.

Toko's got gamestop fever! After all of the excitement of r/SHLStreetBets, Tokolosh started really paying attention to his finances. As a professional athlete, he's agreed to not wager on the league [except in the league sanctioned casino...], but throwing all of his earnings into penny stocks and watching his earnings multiply, Julio has set up a nice little nest-egg/barn-calf for his future. Now that he's rich (and with continual endorsements from the art community coming in), Julio can adjust to a more "boomer-folio" style of savings accounts. A Roth IRA is a practical choice [honestly, probably not because Julio has so much money now, and probably less when he retires], so he has purchased a fair amount of shares of Edmonton's arena's sponsor: Rogers Communications Inc (Class B).
Other earnings are going straight to card packs once those suckers come out. I'm ready to go out of control and blow my budget in a weekend, again. ![]() SHL GM SHL GM
As a player for the Tampa bay barracuda, I take a minimum contract to ensure that I'm surrounded with the best talent. I spend the money in a variety of ways. First thing I do is make sure I take care of my money maker-- my body. I start with a personal chef that I spend about 100k a year to make sure that what I put into my body will keep me going for decades to come. I spent another 20k purchasing a mild hyperbaric chamber it has reduced inflammation from hard training and decreases the amount of down time between intense training sessions. I spend another 30k on medical message and other medical services. After those expenses, I like to take Tampa bay Barracuda super fan, James Harden out on the town. Usually we will pop bottles and have a great time some times that can cost about 70k depending on the night but the real cost is his shooting percentage when he is in town.
Other money earned will be put towards day to day expenses. The rest of my paycheck goes towards investments into media and other miscellaneous ventures. ![]() SMJHL Awards Committee Posting Freak
Jonas Kahnwald has started his first season in the SHL. He's got a few points to his name and he's feeling good about himself. And best yet, he's now making the big boy bucks at the SHL level. It's big a big culture shock to move to the big american city of LA from the small canadian town of st johns in Newfoundland. Across the continent, and a few time zones into the past, Jonas has a lot to get used to. He's not super comfortable just and and so has decided to spend a lot of his money on fixing that. Jonas buys a house with a large yard and installs an out door rink in the yard. It is refrigerated so that he can skate on it all times of the year in sunny california. He also bought a fully loaded rav4 in case it ever snowed. Better safe than sorry, need that awd that comes within a reliable vehicle. Can't go wrong with the rav4. Since it's only been a few weeks, that was the extent of what Jonas' money could buy.

You hear all these horror stories where athletes made millions playing in the big leagues, millions in endorsement deals, going into money troubles, and eventually going into bankruptcy protection. Luckily, the SHL has provided resources for Rikard to understand how to take care of his money. Signing his deals with Anaheim and Hamilton have been the single largest amount of income Hammarberg has ever been given. Having a financial advisor that he trusts, who has been vetted by multiple players and teams, has been a big boon for Hammarberg. After his major purchases to settle into North America were handled, a large portion of his paycheque each year is safely put away to earn passive income. With portions allotted for training, equipment, and routine purchases, Hammarberg still has a bit of money to spend for himself. Whether that is new clothes to look fresh going to the rink, or furniture around the home, Hammarberg ensures that his parents, and his own future are taken care of.

The very first thing Roboute is doing with his money is spending it on the best coaching money can buy. His goal this season is to improve as much as he can. So with that he needs training from the best of the best. Once that is done the rest of the money is towards having fun, saving up for more training, and helping those in need. Roboute donates a percentage of his money to a variety of charities. Some notable ones are P.E.T.A. which stands for Please Erase Tau Armies. This charities is geared towards erasing the heretical armies of the Tau Empire. And Roboute spends his fun money on some plastic toy miniatures. As well as adding more flaming swords to his collection. He has an odd fascination with these weapons and can often be found pretending to fight someone with them. His current crazy play though is figuring our a way to get flames to come out of his hockey stick without effecting the ice in a negative way. So some of his fun money is paying scientists to solve this problem.

The payday that Patrick received this season is being saved to buy some personal coaching. Patrick is looking to work with an SHL great to continue learning the skills that will lead to bigger and bigger paydays. Every season he does sit aside a small amount of the money to work towards the cabin he's building back in the woods of Maine. There is not any rush to try and finish this cabin since it will be his retirement home after his career. Other than training and saving for his dream home, Patrick mostly uses his money on paying rent in Baltimore and paying for a nutritionist to make sure he is getting the most out of his meals and workouts throughout the season. Most of the money that Patrick makes playing in the SHL he puts back into his own career to keep getting better and stronger as a player to try and extend his career as long as possible.

Joseph Weston tries his hardest to make the money he has last a long time. You never know when that money will run out, be it from bills, sudden injuries, medical emergencies, or any sort of ridiculous expense. Joseph Weston sets up his income to predominantly cover housing expenses, groceries, insurance, and even bills from credit cards and so on. From there, the large majority of the remaining contract and job income goes into savings to be compounded for emergencies and retirement. Unfortunately nobody is invincible, and the slow march of time will come for us all in this sport. Weston hopes to make this money last for a long time, and is going to do everything in his power to make that happen. Weston has even gone far enough to begin consulting with a financial advisor to make sure this payday can last for a lifetime if necessary. Just gonna also make sure that's not a short lifetime

It's the most wonderful time of the year. When my pockets are full of cash and my checks are no longer bouncing. I have been waiting for this day for a long time and it has finally here. This season, instead of spending all my money on stupid things like training and coaching, I'm going all in on a bakery? Yes. A Bakery. Why? Why the hell not? I'm French, I know good bread when I see it. I want to bring fresh bread and other goodies to the New Orleans area when I get there. Plus, this should earn me enough profits to buy that expensive coaching and training I need. "But Jean-Locke, what if it is not a success? What will you do?" Of course it will be a success, a French hockey player opening a bakery for the people of New Orleans to experience the authentic French bread is going to be huge. I might even get a key to the city for how successful it will be.

Debt. I'm paying back debt. LOADS OF FUCKING DEBT! Look sometimes you get mixed up with the casino and maple syrup. You might end up like Evander Kane! BUT UNLIKE KANE I PAY MY DEBTS!
But lets say I didn't have debt. Let's say that I was an intelligent person. I'd invest in stock. Maybe a specific plant. OR INVEST IN RETIRMENT! YOU KNOW WHAT LETS GO ALL IN ON GAMESTOP! SHIP IT ALL! EAT THE RICH! DESTROY THE HEDGEFUNDS! Honestly, I should just have someone who handles my money for me. Honestly I really need to just save and stuff. BUT IT'S SO HARD WHEN THERE ARE THINGS TO BUY AND WASTE MONEY ON! LIKE BOBBLEHEADS?! WHO EVEN HAS BOBBLEHEADS ANYMORE?! Honestly though kids, invest in your future not a get rich quick scheme. Chances are it won't work and you'll just be making it harder for yourself in the future. Though like investing a bit here and there in things isn't a bad idea. For legal reasons, I do not have the licenses or education to give financial advice. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Senior Member
I've been making bank playing hockey and everything I don't need to live goes back up home to the family farm. That place has gotten so many upgrades the last few years of junior and now professional hockey money being funneled into it. We've redone the entire irrigation system with self regulated valves, set on timers, to make sure the hay is getting its premium amount of fertilizer and water. We also just bought a fleet of Mahindra 9125 P Tractors. Those bad boys are 120 HP of solid steel ready to get any job done. Of course they come with all the bells and whistles, which include pallet forks, bale spears, rake grapples, heavy duty rotary cutters, power harrows and much, much more to make the haying season our bitch. On top of all that awesome stuff, we also upgraded all the barns. They are now double insulated, with each having their own 5 kW HVAC system, to keep the animals in optimal conditions no matter if its -40 C or a balmy +30 C. I'm sure as I continue to make big bucks playing hockey, that place will become the most state of the art farm in Northern BC.

Another Season, another paycheck, another empty bank account for Zoltan. Not only are taxes at an all time high and public spending at an all time low. Zoltan also provides 80% of his take home Salary to the foundation for Zoltans around the world. Some of you around the league may see how much Zoltan works. THAT’S BECAUSE HE SPENDS SO MUCH MONEY. Or it just disappears as he doesn’t manage his own finances. Zoltan does from time to time withdraw some money from the ATM to keep under his pillow. He has been saving up to buy some trading cards as it is probably going to be his new obsession. Just opening the packs, inhaling the sterile air, and praying to lord Zoltan that there is a Zoltan card in there. Zoltan is planning to spend his hard earned money on more trading cards. He has to collect all the Zoltan cards to give as a git for lord Zoltan.

Payday is the most exciting time of the year for Zlatan Ibrahimovic jr. Why would someone who is from a well-off family be so excited about payday? Well its because Zlatan contributes 70% of his salary to kids in his hometown of Malmo, Sweden. Ibra Jr never struggled with money as he is from a strong pedigree as his dad is a football sensation across the globe. As a result, money was never an issue for him growing up. Only time when Ibra Jr., realized was why his friends in his community were under privileged and were unable to take part in many of the activities he was able to do as a kid. Because of that, Ibra Jr., has sworn that he will continue to provide support for the underprivileged families of his hometown. Not only is this a caring act but Ibra jr., gets very happy when kids are able to play the sport they want or do what other kids can do. If even one of these kids make it to the big leagues, there is nothing more that can make Ibra jr happy. Ibra Jr., goal one day is to go back to his hometown and coach kids with hockey. So contributing to his community will allow kids from Sweden to be able to do what kids in Canada and USA can do for example. He wants to increase the competitiveness of hockey in Sweden and if anyone can do that it is the almighty Zlatan Ibrahimovic jr.

Kaapo Kampainen is not usually known for flashing his wealth around, even though he has amassed quite a hefty amount in his bank account since the beginning of his SMJHL career. A highly regarded undrafted free agent out of Finland, he signed a big one year deal with the Anaheim Outlaws when he came over from America and he hasn't looked back since. He mostly uses his money to pay for his extensive training program that help him get better and right now we can say it's working. He also loves to spend his money on charity. He even has his own charity in Tampere where he helps kids and teenagers to get better at the game of hockey, so he can help develop the Finland of tomorrow. With his extra money, he likes to decorate his own he purshased with his Outlaw money and he also enjoys buying houses for people in need and paying it for them. Kampainen is as generous off the ice and he has improved on the ice.
