S59 PT #4 All-Star Snub

The biggest All-Star snub this season, in my opinion, was Buffalo's Monkey D. Luffy. You don't have to be a hockey aficionado to be aware of the simple fact that goals win games. Monkey D. Luffy scored 36 of them, which stands alone as the third highest total in the league. Both players ahead of him made the All-Star team, as did the players ranking 4th to 7th and the players ranked 9th and 10th. The Stampede winger was one of just two of the top 10 in this category to miss out.
Why is that? It wasn't his failure to create goalscoring opportunities for his teammates, as his 36 assists means he ranks T-9th in points. He wasn't inefficient offensively, either. His 14% shooting is one of the better marks in the league, and his average ice time of just over 20 minutes meant that every player with more points than Luffy achieved this feat playing more minutes, giving them more opportunities. Offensively, Luffy was absolutely one of the league's standouts. Apparently whoever picks the All-Star rosters values something silly like defence, an idea I just can't wrap my head around. Oh boy, this is going to be a tough task since I have no clue about SHL player statlines. I barely even follow the SMJHL, really just checking in from time to time on how Newfoundland is doing at any given time. But for shits and gigs, I'll say that Leon Athanasios was the biggest *SHL* snub. Why? He's simply the best! (The following is all satire, I know I'm trash)
Leon Athanasios has had a breakout season in his 3rd season in the SMJHL. The winger who once struggled to score 20 points in a season has already surpassed his season goal of scoring 20 goals, sitting in the top 10 in goals with 24, and 12th in points with 52. If he was in the SHL, I have no doubt that he would continue his scoring streak, especially due to his tendency to continue to rise in performance as the season progresses. Although he started slow, he's exploded recently, having 6 points in 2 games earlier this week, and consistently notching a point in nearly every game since then. Therefore, Leon was #snubbed from the SHL All-Star weekend

I'm grateful for the revamp of the index, I truly am. However, it really sucks to look for who got snubbed, simply because looking up the league leaders and then cross-referencing the post on the forum is hardly justice to those who really make an impact game in and game out.
Just from looking at the league leader totals and then checking if that person is, in fact, on the post for the All Stars, the dude who's farthest up the list in the index but is not on that forum post is Monkey D. Luffy. This is doubly evidenced by Luffy's post in reply to the All-Star post, "top 10 in points with 5 less games played gets the snub. nice", which is very telling. All of the other Buffalo bois jumped in as well, which is even MORE evidence. What more do you need? Numbers? Okay. In 59 games, Luffy has 36 goals and 36 assists. In addition to that being a lot of points, he kept everything even. That's just courteous. I really think he just fell between the automatic representatives and the ballot ones. It's a shame but there's always that one guy who does well and isn't selected.

It is very difficult question for me to say, who is biggest All-Star snub this season just because I do not follow how things are going in SHL and I did not follow All-Star events at all. To be honest all I follow at the moment as a sent-down player is my stats during this season, my personal improvement and how is my team doing in league. Do not want to be rude or something, but I am kinda egocentric human, but I hope that I will change in future, but you should not count on that. In future, I hope, I will be biggest All-Star snub, so I can write something in big pages of SHL history, hoping to go crazy with like 10 assists and make my opponent team's skaters kiss glass and breath heavily on ice, so they remember my jersey for long time.

Luffy has to be the biggest All-Star Snub, I know he was upset about not getting selected. I get why he wasn't selected and I understand why he would be upset. There are better players on buffalo this season to be selected and like I feel like for the betterment of the league having multiple players or 1 player from each team is okay. I feel like some teams simply didn't deserved to have 2 players each but if the league wants to go to that direction to be fair. I get why luffy would be upset when he was an over PPG player that was doing better on a better team than some good players on bad teams. He also plays in the hardest division in the great lakes and sees the great lakes team the most, the 4 great lakes teams are probably the best 4 teams in the league if the league allowed all 4 to make the playoffs, I would be it would be a great lakes conference finals. Thats just how the league is right now. It has gotten better lately and I think teams are slowly understanding fhm better than sths.

I think the most obvious snub was Monkey D. Luffy mainly down to the pure stats of it making it so glaring when simply looking at the top scorers in the league. This is the first season in recent memory where a top 10 scorer would be left out of the all star game, but it is probably the most understandable casualty there has been that I remember. I have seen Luffy make public statements damning his snub, but ultimately the all star game is moving in the right direction by including more teams in the event, and the fault lies on Luffy alone for playing on such a strong team. If were talking pure points, one could argue Luffy should be in over Augustus Wang, but Wang is having an unbelievable offensive season for a Defenseman and it would be shocking to leave the top scoring blueliner out purely to accommodate a team's third-highest scoring forward. At the end of the day if Luffy feels so strongly about making it to an allstar game going forward, they need to put themselves on a team where they can at least be the best or second best forward on that team as Luffy simply was not good enough this season to justify including them over any of the three Buffalo players that did make it in and that is the risk you take playing on a stacked roster going forward. Luffy will probably still be in contention for some awards accolades at the end of the season, but most importantly, they should really be a little bit more composed considering they are still in for a shot at the cup this season, which most of the league would value much more than just the all star game.

Sven Svenson was an absolute snub from the All-Star game and roster in my totally unbiased opinion. It is such a snub that it makes me question whether the All-Star committee knew they had to keep out such a strong, skilled player so as to not embarrass all the other All-Stars in attendance. Now some might have the horrible opinion that Svenson doesn’t deserve to be there because of his pedestrian stats, but those people are simply misinformed. What makes Sven’s 26 goals and 23 assists, good for 49 points in 59 games, All-Star worthy is that he is putting up decently big goal scoring numbers on a bottom 5 scoring team. Sven has put up 18% of the Pride’s goal this season, and without doing any further research, this reporter is going to posit that it is the highest % of team goals scored by a player in the whole league. Sven is a top 25 goal scorer on one of the worst scoring teams in the league and that should make him an All-Star.

Billy Brooks should have been an all-star this year. He has been playing really well and much better than last year. For sure he should at least get in for the number of people he has shoved into the board this year. Billy Brooks has something like 160 hits and it is amazing to me how good he is at doing that. He has been in 10 fights this year! 10 Fights! He is beating and kicking and taking names for sure. He has only 2 of these fights for a 20% winning percantage, but I hardly think that is relevant in the standings of things. Billy also has a career-high goals number of 7! 7 is a very big number! Right after 6 and right before 8. If Billy can put 7 goals a season then I do not see why he is not an all-star. Soccer players put up something like that I think. I don't know. I do not watch Soccer.

Lets go with something bold here because its easy to look at a player in the SHL and say they should have been included in the game. The biggest snub from the SHL all star game was Igor Petrov! This guy have been dominating the minor leagues for multiple season! Its obvious that he's playing at a SHL All Star level yet the Pride refuse to call him up so that he can be the SHL all star that he truly deserves. At this point we can only believe that other SHL Gms's are paying the Pride to intentionally keep Petrov in the minor leagues. This is likely in an attempt to limit his SHL awards and All star selections in hopes to keep such a sketchy character out of the Hall of Fame and not having the same MVP every season. Gms need to do what is right and put Igor in the SHL All Star Game!

aumy jr is the best player to not make the all star team because he has overcome all of his former adversity in his junior years and rookie season. if it weren't for the drama he was involved in, he would be pinned as one of the biggest up-and-comers in our league with his calm and cool demeanor. on top of that, he is easily the best musician in the league with multiple critically acclaimed singles that have molded themselves into an anthem for the buffalo stampede. if the rest of the league knew how much aumy jr has matured in his time as an SHL player, he would have a better reputation and be in contention for awards and spots on the shl all star team.

I am going to take a different approach this time to my all star selection. Rather then selective a forward or defensemen, I am shifting my attention to the net. I feel Knox Booth should have been added to this all star list.. He has the leagues best game rating with a ton of games played and managed to earn six shutouts, which is about 10% of the entire season. Not to mention he doesn't have the best defense in front of him as he faced the most shots against WHILE providing the most saves and yet somehow, was not selected. In my opinion Booth is in the conversation for the McBride award, but yet it is definitely surprising to me to see that his name was not brought up in the all star voting. Maybe it is because the panthers were not a flashy team this year, therefore since his great goaltending did not lead to more wins maybe the committee was not convinced he was worth the vote

Although I don't follow the SHL too closely, I can say that without a doubt, Monkey D. Luffy was absolutely SNUBBED for the all star game. Luffy is the third highest goal scorer in the league (being only 5 goals back from the current league leader) and a major key to Buffalo's success this season. His shooting percentage is one of the best in the league at nearly 15%. This guy can score when his team needs it. His plus minus is maybe not the greatest of all time, but it is still far better than many others selected to be present at the all star game, some who were well into the minuses. Could one argue that Luffy's stats are inflated due to him being surrounded by a solid team? Maybe. But at the same time it takes a little more than dumb luck to be a in the Jay McDonald Trophy race at this point in the season.
