S62 PT#6: Wrap-up

For #2,
Overall, Lilja's season went pretty well. He got bumped up from the 3rd line to the 2nd line, and he also doubles his powerplay minutes as well as points in comparison to last season. He did not play his true position, which is fair when looking at a team that still does not have their building blocks set up properly - but we will get there. 18 goals and 47 points in total is a new career high for my guy, and im happy to produce from one season to another. What still bums me about last season was my absolutely horrific shooting - which is something to work up on this offseason ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Am a peasant
Overall, this was a really positive step and season for the Anaheim Outlaws franchise. We saw our team take a nice step forward, both on and off the ice. Our S62 class had really nice seasons, and will look to improve further next season. We added some great rookies in Cuffy, Vik, and Lesgo Brandon. We took two games from Maine in our playoff series, a huge accomplishment given the large difference in TPE between our two teams. All in all, I'm super proud of our players, our locker room cohesion, and the direction we are headed. @Talls and @takethehorizon are doing a fantastic job at the helm, and I can't wait to see what Anaheim can do next season!

Well first of all I'd have to decide which conciousness to upload, the one of my current player Philipp Winter who would fall into the grizzled vet category, or that of his grandfather Hall of Famer David Winter. On a sidenote, it's kinda rude to not even give my third player Nicolas Winter a chance to participate here given that he is neither an active player nor a Hall of Famer, but I digress. I think I would end up going with David and the Hall of Famers team, just because it is a bit more special to get such a group with players from all kinds of different eras and backgrounds together, a what-if that could never be replicated in reality, whereas Philipp still has the chance to play with and against his peers that would currently fall into the grizzled vets team. The group of players I've selected to join me in that thought experienced are therefore very different as well: Ron Mexico, Esa Anrikkanen, Sophia Bennett, Robert Phelps and John Falkirk. Those four would allow for very some interesting comparisons... How does an old-timey superstar like Ron Mexico compare to modern era greats such as Robert Phelps? How does one of the very first female HOF-inductees in Sophia Bennett compare to her male counterparts from different eras? How good was Esa Anrikkanen, whose main attributes were always "consistency" and "longevity" really? And lastly, how would John Falkirk fare, one of the few players from the very early seasons of the league who snuck into the HOF despite not having a particularly impressive record? All those questions and many more could be answered through the Hall of Famer team! #2 Pretty cool idea to have this as a season-long continuous PT, it's nice to see you guys come up with cool stuff like this. Prompt #2 is a little too generic for my liking, I think there is a better middle ground between crazy promps and "just write about your season", but maybe some people like it that way. Alright, to the task at hand... As described in the previous PT, I would be participating with my first player David Winters alter ego as a member of Team Hall of Famer, so this first game is basically the biggest contrast one could imagine: A bunch of legendary players, a lot of them being seniors these days and some actually already having passed away, versus a group of players so young that many of them aren't even allowed to order a beer in a bar or rent a car yet. It's the ultimate test of experience vs hunger, of tactical prowess and skills that have been honed over decades vs explosive physicality, talent and creativity. Ultimately I see my team emerging victorious however and I'm gonna go full boomer here for a second for the purpose of this: I think a lot of young players underestimate how good the legends of the olden days used to be, they see themselves earning TPE at a faster rate and think that that's because they work harder, when in reality these old legends were just as good if not better, while operating in a league and TPE ecosystem that was much different from the one we have today. And given that the Hall-of-Fame team is made up of all Hall of Famers, so exclusively players with both an elite mindset and skill, i see them having the edge against a younger team where the jury is still out whether they will all reach the great potential they undoubtedly have or fall short at some point along the way. #3 Well it turns out the "Superstars" team carry that name for a reason, as they were the first squad to beat us in the round robin stages fo this tournament. I have to say that I wasn't completely surprised, in a tournament with as much quality as this one everyone can beat everyone, but I still would've expected us to have the upper hand of course. The superstars of one generation vs the superstars of all the other generations that came before them? Should have been a win for us but oh well, luckily things aren't that easy and predictable in hockey. Unless you are the current version of the SHL of course where parity is a constant issues and seasons are more predictable than ever. But I digress. One thing that did become apparent in this loss was the physical aspect of the game - players today simply are in much better shape than we had to be in our primes, and it showed in the battles along the boards and as the game went on and Enduracne became more and more important. I would argue that we had a slight edge in raw skill but we couldn't quite match their combination of both skill and physicality this time so this is definitely something we have to figure out until our next matchup... #4 Whew for a second there I thought I was on team grizzled vets because well, that's where my current player would be, until I remembered that for the purpose of this tournament I actually chose Team Hall Of Famers. Is guess that's what happens when you get up there in age and it's getting time to upload your conciousness into a tournament like this one here... So alright then, let's get at it Vets! As a matter of fact, this win felt surprisingly easy for us... We struggled against the Superstars in the Round Robin and to our surprise, the young up and comers also gave us a run for our money at times as well. But the Grizzled Vets are basically the same kind of team that we are, just not as good. They are also built on experience and skill and instincts that have been honed over decades, not just as much of it as on a team where every single player is a Hall of Famer. It was basically the best match-up that couldn't happen to us in the Semis, even though I was still a bit surprised to see us move on with such ease in a 4-1 game. #5 It's finals time and we are meeting the Superstars... again! This truly is a battle of the best of the best and to be completely honest, the finals that were to be expected beforehand if you just looked at the teams on paper. The very best of today versus the very best of the past, legendary Hall of Famers who dominated their peers versus the current creme of the crop which is better trained and more profesionally developed than players have ever been. And the game did indeed turn out to be a really close one. The Superstars would go on to score the first goal of the game at the hands of Theo Morgan but the Hall of Famers would adjust quickly to tie it midway through the first on a Benjamin Wong goal, before the Superstars would take the lead again just a minute before the first intermission on a bit of a lucky deflection in front of the goalie. The second period turned out to be a rather boring, or should I say tactical one, with teams looking to minimize mistakes and adjust their systems so we went into the second intermission with the Superstars still up 2-1. The third would end up being a lot more exciting however, just a few minutes in the Hall of Famers tied the game on the man-advantage but the Superstars would come back taking the lead once again with a rocket of a shot from the blueline by Nicholas Owens. So we went into the last ten minutes with the Superstars still up 3-2. With the game on the line, it was time for the absolute best of the best to step up and maybe the most legendary player in the game did just that: Ron Mexico picked up the puck at his own blueline, dangled his way through the Defense before putting it right under the crossbar with a beautiful wrister to tie it at three a piece. Despite a couple of other good chances the goalies would stand tall for the rest of the third period with John McBride putting in some especially clutch saves. So the game went into overtime - and there the conditioning advantage that the modern day athletes have finally started to show itself. The Superstars took more and more control of the game, gained possession and let the Hall of Famers chase the puck. Only McBride's sensational performance kept the Hall of Famers alive at that point until suddenly - a quick save, an outlet pass and a BREAKWAY FOR JOE MCKEIL. Forehand... Backhand... Back to the Forehand... Backhand again... SCOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRREEEEEEESSSS!!! The Hall of Famers win it in Ooooooooovertime! Final thoughts: Overall I thought this was a really cool idea. It got a liiiiitle stale towards the end as the stuff we wrote about started to repeat itself a little bit, but it was still a neat idea in general that kept me more engaged over the course of a season than the regular PTs. ![]() SHL GM SHL GM Code: Written Task: Write 100 words about anything SHL related. Venting, talking about your season, talking about site features you're excited/not excited about, fun times in LRs, whatever you want. It was definitely an interesting season in Vancouver. What was supposed to be a rebuilding year after the majority of our team left for the SHL, we ended up finishing first in the league during the regular season. As a team, we really came together and I couldn’t be more proud of this group. Individually I had my best statistical year yet, and am hopeful to get some recognition in the off-season. We will see what comes of that. Either way, what an incredible season it was. Now comes the difficult part. I am faced with the tough decision of do I stay in Vancouver for a fourth season and see what comes of it all, or do I make the leap and head off to Seattle and begin my pro career? It won’t be easy to make the choice, but I am waiting to see what happens during these playoffs before I make any final decision. One hundred words to talk about anything SHL related? Should be easy. I'd like to take this moment to address the current members, rookies and alumni of the Great Falls Grizzlies and her staff. You all are absolutely fantastic, and brilliant. You make the locker room such a fantastic place to be, and your drive to keep your player improved continually pushes us to be the best we can be in the SMJHL. From expansion, to sophomore season and more...you have set a baseline of excellence for all future grizzlies to come and I just wanted to publicly thank all of you for your hard work and dedication.

Interesting, so you think I know players in this league outside of my team? That's a lot you are asking for, but ok. Look at me, I'm definitely an up and coming superstar (maybe), who would be on the first team described. In my draft class - ok, you got me, I know other players outside of my own team - I am not the TPE leader, this honor goes to Jonas Kahnwald from the Los Angeles Panthers, who would definitely join me in this up and coming team. The next one is an old teammate of mine back in the beginnings of my time in this league, we played together on the Anchorage Armada. None less than the future star Theo Kondos, currently playing for the Texas Renegades. Another one that comes to my mind, who I never played with, but still remember from my deep dive of my first season, is the upcoming star Ryuuji Minamino, he's already one of the top picks in fantasy for his rather young age. Last but not least we need another forward, and I can't decide who of the two should get the nod. So both are welcome in my team, hello Anton Mihailov and Pablo Salvatici. Both are awesome teammates in Atlanta. I have no idea about goalies in this league tho. The only one that comes to mind is Evgeny - I think - Petrov. Welcome Reno! So that's the squad that's going to hit the league by storm and easily racks up the tourney. We met at the first training and had some nice interaction (so you can't say I haven't talked about the first training as requested). #2 Think I'm trapped in the first prompt now, I can see a pattern right there. You really think I remembered what I wrote on the first point task? That's a lot to ask for. But I will try. I chose team up and coming with some teammates I mostly remember. So our first game is against the grizzled vets. And while they are experienced vets, they are old and not up to the game they once were. We lack in experience, but make up with it with physicality. We are fast, agile and just powerhouses, each and every one of us. So we crush them, of course. Would say it's a 7-2 or something like that, pretty clear from the beginning. The speed of our play compared with the chemistry we built up in the short camp we had before, gets us to a heroic first win in the tournament. All of us had a stellar game, more so on the offensive side than defense, that's why I didn't shine a lot. But still recorded an assist. So there's that. The upcoming opponents will be hard to challenge, so it's nice to start off with a win. #3 I'm trapped in this, right? Ok, let's do this. We started good into the tourney facing the old farts, but now the superstars of Hall of Famers were on the table. And they smashed us. You think young and coming would stand a chance? Nope, definitely not the case. They showed us what it takes to play hockey, they let us bleed with their experience and skills. A lot of training is ahead of us to get on their level. There wasn't one player that stood out and held up to the challenge, but it's a teamsports anyways. They never left us a chance right from the start. We were hyped up and saw a chance of a surprise, but they never let that happen. In the third we at least got to score, but that's only because they slowed down the intensity and let it happen. That's where we have to go to become superstars in this league. If it had a good thing, then that we now know what it takes to get better. #4 We already played them, we won that game. We play them again, and will win again, and did win again as I just read. Nice, we advanced a round in the playoffs. Well, the round robin had its up and downs, but we got a solid performance going as the Up and Coming team in the tourney. The Veterans couldn't hold up with the speed of our game, it was almost like we had constant powerplay going that game. After the first game they seemed a bit closer to us in strength than they appeared now. I guess we made the perfect adjustments and used the experience of the prior games in the tournament to handle them. What was very nice to see is, that it seemed we took a very good lesson out of the game against the superstars and tried to act a little more like them, which worked like charm in that game. Now is the time to tighten that process of playing even more and further, now that we saw that it is indeed successful. On to the next game. #5 Ok, this is as dramatic as it's going to get. The Up- and Comers made it to the final game, it's for all or nothing. Well, we at least got to the finals, so it won't be nothing. We already played the Superstars back in the round robin and it was a blowout. They showed us what limits we still have in our game. To be fair, we learned our lessons from that game and improved. Experience is the key sometimes. But it's still a matchup David vs Goliath. We know we can take this league in a few seasons, but now, the challenge ahead seems merely impossible. Well, game on I'd say. We get beaten the crap out of us. In the first third we kind of keep up, but get 2 late goals. In the middle third we get to close in, but only to get another 3 against us. With 1-5 going into the last third, we know that this game is over. We manage to score 2 more, but they do the same and give us another 2. So that's a final score of 3-9. We made the final at least. Yay! Bonus - Final Thoughts: Good idea, although I felt trapped in it at first. I even kind of liked it. PTs are rather low level things, so it's hard to build up a real story, and reading over everything probably shows that. And no thanks, I haven't re-read my submissions haha ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Posting Freak
So the Simulation Hockey League has these things called Locker Rooms, in which, me, Igor Victory, are apart of. These used to be located directly on the forums, but that was slow and awkward and you'd just be pressing f5 trying to refresh the site for new posts. That's cumbersome, so Discord it is. It's one of the best things about the league in general is the Discord Locker Rooms. This helps to keep thing updated quickly, conversations flowing, and in general creates a welcoming environment for all. The sims, have been quite lackluster, especially after the departure of the GOAT simmer, Kal.

Prompt #2
I've really enjoyed the SHL lately. I've just been named co-GM at Nevada with @sköldpaddor and I'm so excited to get next season started. Nevada just finished their best season ever and I'm so grateful for my player to have been part of it, and really hope to do better next season. SHL has been a good break from reality for me moving across the country with my wife and the struggles that have come with it. Having a good community to just talk fake hockey and laugh with has been a huge help. I can't wait for my first draft has a GM and only one more season in the Js before I go to the SHL! Optional I didn't always pick the 1st prompt this season, but I enjoyed that there was an option for a season long narrative. I appreciate the hard work the PT Team puts in. ![]() Registered Senior Member ![]() Registered Senior Member
PT #1 Somehow, for some reason, Duncan Mackenzie has been selected to the Up and Comers team. It was a shock to be joining players like Alexis Saint-Michel, fellow Knight Leons Breidis, Greyson Cooper and Grogu Mandosson on a team designed to show the old guard what can be done with a little youth and enthusiasm. It was easy to settle in with the folks I recognized from my time in Kelowna or the training camps with the Calgary Dragons. The others that I only recognized by my time hunting them down on the ice for hits were a bit different.
The first practice started at a very high intensity and went upwards from there. The coach made one thing clear, we cannot beat the Superstars with our skill, the Grizzled Vets will beat us with treachery and wiles and the Hall of Famers will just be happy to be playing and not be dead. The big advantage we have is our energy, so every shift will be played at the maximum and that starts in practice. Hits come fast and furious. Grogu lines me up and just eases off at the last second, avoiding plastering my brains over the ice. Then bag skates start. Once the first guy pukes, the intensity then begins to ramp up. It is going to be a loooooong training camp. PT#2: It started as you would expect. We came out skating hard and fast, trying to use our energy to outwork the Grizzled Vets and force them to lose their legs early. It worked, for about two minutes, then their old age and treachery came forth. We starting taking penalties as a stick was held under the arm, a tripping call from an "accidental" step onto a stick blade. It continued to get worse, we kept pushing, but the harder we tried, the more the game seemed to get away from us. The vets did start to slow down in the back half of the game. They switched to a far more defensive posture with less forechecking pressure. We tried to use this to our advantage, but even gaining the zone was difficult. Deservedly placed on the fourth line, Duncan Mackenzie tried to play to the maximum of his energy, hitting and grinding and trying to wear out his opposition. In the end, we managed to claw back to within 1 goal, but their victory was never really in doubt and a late empty netter sealed our fate. Final Score: Vets 5, Up and Comers 3. PT#3 Once again we were faced off against the Old Guys and once again we were shown that youth and enthusiasm gets beat by old age and treachery. It was the same gameplan as used by the wily vets and it still worked against us perfectly. The rest of the up and comers and I came out roaring, hoping that our energy would see us through the opening few minutes as the old timer's energy expired. But once again it turned into a parade to the penalty box for us, as they sold every call possible. It probably didnt help that they knew the idiosyncrasies of the referee team better than us either. Late in the game we did manage to wear them down enough for a pushback, but I spent several minutes in a dark room being checked for a concussion after a subtle yet effective elbow from none other than Mr Mike Izzy himself. We will have our revenge later on in the tournament, though. After two straight embarrassments, us young pups have learned a thing or two about how to play big boy hockey. PT#4 It all went to plan. After continuous beatdowns by the elder statespeople of the game, we finally put our gameplan together and executed it to perfection. Knowing that we would not be able to just use our hustle to take down the grizzled vets, we started slower and played smarter. We stuck to the gameplan laid out by the coach: Take the fall, Act Hurt, Get Indignant! We sold the calls and beat the Grizzled Vets at their own game. Eventually the Refs had to give us some power plays and then our youth and enthusiasm took over and we started to put pucks in the net. The vets became unglued and that is when things really fell apart for them as their parade to the box continued and we were able to slam more home. Alexis Saint-Michel was a superstar out there, putting in three goals and drawing five penalties! It was a heck of a game and it has sent the Up and Comers through to next round. PT#5 Finally, the Final we have all be waiting for, but none expected: The Up and Comers vs the Grizzled Vets. No-one had bet on the Up and Comers getting this far, yet, here they are, in all their glory. The puck drops. And so do the Up and Comers. They try their patented fall down, act hurt, get indignant routine, but this time, the refs are not buying what the players are selling. Now we are down by 2. In the Second Intermission we discuss the power of friendship, that the inches we need are right there in front of us, that if we believe in ourselves we will win, that ASM might actually be The One, and that, maybe if we change into Mighty Ducks Jerseys, we will find the will and skill to win somehow. We come out of the tunnel in our Mighty Ducks Jerseys we somehow all had brought. And we are immediately sent back down the tunnel to change into our proper jerseys as that is ridiculous and you cant actually change jerseys in the middle of a game. Anyways, the Grizzled Vets beat the tar out of us in the third period, scored another three goals and beat us 5-0 for the championship. Maybe we will get them in the sequel... I liked the season long "story" I'd vote to keep them. ![]() ![]() ![]() Height: 6'2"

Prompt 2
Written Task: Write 100 words about anything SHL related. Venting, talking about your season, talking about site features you're excited/not excited about, fun times in LRs, whatever you want. Where to start with this one ??? I have certainly enjoyed my first few seasons in the SHL. My player, Rinky McDangle, has had a degree of personal success with the Colorado Raptors. However, we didn't get too far into the playoffs in any season. The plus side of that comment, though, is that we did, in fact, make the playoffs each season. (Almost "Leaf-like.) As I understand it, Rinky will be moving on to the SHL in his 6th season. I believe that entitles him to one more season in which to burn up the SMJHL. Colorado has been a fine team with which to play. The management has put Rinky in a position to succeed and help the team as a whole. The SHL community, as a whole, has been helpful and welcoming. I haven't witnesses any flame wars that are prevalent in other forum-based games. Maybe there were, but they went over my head...... I have also enjoyed responding to these prompts. Keep up the fine effort. Merry Christmas !! ![]() Winnipeg Aurora Jack of All Trades
Prompt #2:
Let's talk about the WJC and GMing. It's my 3rd season as the North America GM. Pretty much every year I have a metric ton of turnover because all the good players are poached off to their national teams (and rightly so, don't get me wrong.) But that leaves me with a very young, low tpe team every year. And every year, I feel that I make things interesting. Sure, 3-7-2 isn't great - but isn't it with 200 tpe players vs 400 tpe players? I'm curious how I could do as a GM if I had the roster that some of the other countries do. Maybe I've gotten lucky. All I'm saying is maybe I'm a natural that is soon going to jump over to full-time? I'm excited to see what can happen. PROMPT 2
Well if I can pick the topic, I'd like to vent about a thing I think the league desperately needs to figure out. Lack of communication, especially during the offseasons. It feels like nobody knows when things are going to happen and why things aren't happening. I get that there are things that require some time to get sorted out before moving on to draft, offseason etc. But it would be way easier to wait, if we were told a) what are we waiting for b) when we are going to move on c) if we don't know, what is being done about it. I'm worried that this pushes people to inactivity. It causes quandary every offseason, more and more all the time. There should be someone responsible of keeping the whole league informed. Now there is not. Or if there is, they aren't doing their job. |
