S65 PT #1: Inspiration

Player Prompt
Greyson Cooper has been picking up a mini stick ever since he began to walk. He comes from a family who loves hockey & is always on the TV. All. Day. Long. I think his dad had a lot to do with it & helping him fall in love with the sport. Most of his cousins also play hockey so they spent many hours at the rink watching hockey & running around with all the kids. It wasn't until he was in the 7th grade that he really started to find his game & become a spotlight player on his team. He made the AAA team & it all went uphill from there. His biggest supporter on & off the ice is his dad, he makes sure to call him after every game to catch up on how the game went because he knows his dad would never miss a game even if he is watching from afar.

Prompt 1
Aaron Wilson is a son of a college hockey coach so it's no surprise that he's been playing hockey since early age, although even his dad had doubts whether Aaron could make it as a professional hockey player because of his inability to pass the puck. As a kid, Aaron would either refuse to pass or when he did try to pass, he would turn the puck over to the other team, and more often than not, young Aaron would just shoot at the net, often missing the net because he was shooting from far away or from low danger areas. Aaron's advanced stats were very good due to a high number of shot attempts, and he was able to play decent defense, but his apparent inability to make an accurate pass or good decisions offensively was the reason he fell to the 4th round in the smjhl draft, but as time went on, Aaron learned how to pass and developed into an ok hockey player.

Matsmith didn't really want to play hockey growing up, he was a late comer to the sport. He was a really good roller skater, he played roller hockey before he even considered playing Ice Hockey. That was until he saw the Chicago Syndicate play in the S57 season of the Simulation Hockey League. As a young kid who grew up underprivileged in Chicago, he never thought he could really afford and have the ability to learn the ice hockey game. This all changed in that season, because Chicago did an outreach to youth roller kids and he got the good luck of connecting with them and then learned ice hockey. It was quickly there he found he out he was surprisingly good at it. Side note, it's also how he met his adoptive parents, god father, and uncle, so feel good story there. As for hockey tho, he really was forunate and was in the right place to learn from some of the best around.

Player Prompt
Sven got into hockey because it ran in his family. His dad used to play hockey as did his father before him. Sven and his brother were put on the ice as almost as soon as they could stand and walk. It was a family tradition by now, and honestly they didn't have much say in it. Luckily for them, both Sven and his brother enjoyed playing hockey.

No one in Sven's family had ever made it big professionally. His dad did make it into the 3rd tier league in Sweden, but switched careers when he reached 30 years old because the low pay made it hard to support a family of four.

Sven's dad spent hundreds of early mornings and late nights driving smelly hockey gear and tired players back and forth between rinks and cities. His father is most defiantly his largest inspiration and motivation when it comes to playing hockey. He wish to do well and make sure all the work he and his father put in was worth it.

Past Players

Joseph Weston first wanted to play hockey because it came naturally to him. There used to be a long drainage ditch on his way to school that he would skate on when the weather got cold enough, something Joseph Weston has talked about in previous prompts about these kinds of things. It just seemed like the normal thing to him, playing hockey. It wasn't any particular or special person, it was just something that he could pick up a hockey stick and do. Grabbing the puck, shooting it, he all learned slowly by himself before picking up more pickup games at local ice arenas. What made hockey special to Joseph Weston was that it was like breathing air, you don't know how badly you need it till it is gone. He is always thankful for the time he gets to spend on the ice, and wouldn't spend it anywhere else if given the option.

The most important moment that sparked my players career was the first time he went ice skating at a frozen lake. The moment he stepped onto the slick surface and tried to glide through the surface he realized that hockey and ice skating were his passions. After that trip he attended the local games of the Fussen leopards of the 2nd German league and instantly became a fan of the team and the sport. After that he attended several camps in USA and Canada, where he was scouted by the Colorado Raptors and thus began his career.
In the end he hopes to create the same sense of excitement for the German fans and inspire a new generation of hockey players to bolster the ranks of the German team and spread the influence of the sport in his native land. With a little bit more time and a breakout season in the SHL he hopes to make his country proud.

Prompt #1

Growing up in St. Paul, Minnesota was the best thing that could happen for Jack Klompus. He quickly became interested in hockey from a young age and got interested in the SHL. Klompus would spend most nights watching whatever games would happen to be showing that night. He was dead set on making an impact on the game and wanted to be someone who would be in the spotlight and one of the game's greatest superstars. With his focus on hockey through the years he was able to get to where he wants to be, preparing for another big season of SHL hockey. Especially being a player with their player agent as the GM of the team, all the pressure is already there to perform but thankfully Klompus is already used to this through his years in hockey growing up. Now as a veteran player in the league it's up to him to help lead the next generation.

Written Task:  What activities, sports, or games do you have prepared for your group of kids to teach them the values your player lives by? Are you trying to do meaningful team building exercises with lessons that last a lifetime, or something stupid like trying to sneak the kids into the back door of a casino? Your call. Go wild. (150+ words)

Mando Lorian has been tasked with running a youth camp for his son Grogu and other up and coming hockey players. This has been quite the challenge for Mando, as he doesn’t always understand what motivates children and sometimes pushes them too hard. Though he is a tough trainer, he was able to find a balance of extensive training, and fun activities for the young ones. Grogu has been showing great promise as a hockey player and is always a leader in the drills. Mando has gone from being apprehensive about running the camp, to being enthusiastic to lead the kids and make them into better hockey players. The favorite drill of the kids involves them shooting shots into the goal while Mando does something he’s not usually known for and plays goalie. The pucks fly towards him and either go into the net, or they strike him in the beskar armor. (152 words)

Pretty easy one here for Red Kirkby obviously. His dad Rex was a long time shl pro and it only made sense to follow in his footsteps. Kirkby senior scored the fourth most points as a defender all time in the shl, holds the record for most points for the British IIHF team and is more than likely a future hall of famer so Red has some big shoes too fill. There was never really any question of whether he would go into pro simulation sports as he also has family members playing American football, basketball and baseball in various leagues. However he was always in love with hockey and with his father's connection to the game it only made sense that he would also choose to represent the code. On top of this he is fortunate that he also gets to represent the same team that his dad eventually retired on in the he Philadelphia Forge, unlike Rex though who became somewhat of a journeyman with teams Red will probably be a one team player.

Parker Smeb was drawn to the game of hockey due to growing up the illegitimate son of Chico Salmon after he was abandoned in Korea with the rest of his illegitimate Smeb siblings. His dream was to one day reconnect with his father by following in his footsteps and being inducted into the SHL HOF. Time will tell if this dream will become a reality, but Parker has exceeded the expectations put on him when the 5 Smeb siblings announced their move to NA to the SMJHL, most thought they would bust, Parker was even selected 66th overall in the SMJHL draft that year. Parker has put up an amazing career to this point but after getting into a fight with his brother Daniel, Daniel went to team management and politicked his way into getting Parker kicked off the only team he ever knew in Chicago. Parker was very saddened and he has since bounced around the league while Daniel has gotten carried to his second cup by his Chicago teammates. Parker's final goal before retiring is to win his second cup and tie Daniel.

Player prompt

As someone born in sweden, a country with a strong tradition and history of hockey. Evert Jansson grew up with a family where his father was a professional hockey player in the swedish first tier league until Evert was twelve years old. This was one of the prime reason Evert really started focusing on becoming a professional hockey player. Having a family that supported his journey really helped him to keep grinding to become the best. As a boy he always dreamed of making it into the big leagues and he had and still has a lot of idols in the sport that helped him push it to the limit.

Another reason Evert wanted to play professional hockey was because he loved the way goalies managed to catch pucks with the glove. The sheer satisfaction he got from watching save highlights on youtube made him picture himself in those videos as a star for a team in the SHL

You got a bunch of kids together so you know you gotta teach them rats to live AND play the right way (cause hockey is life). Skating hard? Sure. Making good passes? I hope so. How to get away with dirty shit? You dont just enter the league knowing how to drag a foot in a way tha tmakes it look like you're just skating while clipping the guy behind you. That's something you gotta learn from the pros.

So first, you Foley is gonna take these kids to the yard and make em play Red Rover. This is just a clean scouting assignment. Red Rover is one of those games you can really hurt someone with if you want to, so you get an eye for which kids are out there to hurt people, which of em are pure souls, and which kids got weak ass bones that get broken playing Red Rover. Once you figure that out, the weak ones are already gone due to broken bones, so plausible deniability that you weren't gonna kick em out anyways since they're hospitalized. The strong ones get free lunch and are left alone in a KFC or McD's or smth, while the weak kids who don't want to hurt other kids are brought to the Barracuda training complex to get trained into hating life. They gotta run suicides baby, the ol' dry-land bag-skate. After that they're gonna feel some resentment, so you can go pick up the mean ones from the fast food joint and pray none of em ran out, and get em all together for the real ringer. Foley finna show the kids how to; angle the knee right for a big hit, the proper way to chicken wing, how much stick to hold when launching a butt end, how to make it look like you got fake tripped into a goalie, etc. etc.

After that, the kids are gonna know how to be real good people in life

When Shoyo Hinata was in Japan he played volleyball. He started in middle school and played until the end of high school. He was a pretty good middle blocker and they even made an animated documentary about his playing days. What drew him to the game of hockey ? When going home from the national tournament of volleyball he caught a game of hockey on TV. He saw the IIHF Japan team win a gold medal and he was really inspired. He found that skating fast and scoring goals was really cool. So he quits his volleyball team and started to play hockey. At first it was difficult because he hardly knew how to skate. But he was scoring goals and it was enough to be noticed by the Colorado Raptors.

Shoyo still looks up to the Japan team that won the gold. He hopes that one day he will be good enough to inspire others to start to play the sport.
