S65 SMJHL PT #6 - Playoff Dreams

40+ losses? No problem. Easy playoff berth.

The Whalers miraculously made the playoffs this season due to playing in a division with 3 teams and in a league where the top 3 teams in each division make the playoffs. Vancouver, in the early stages of a huge rebuild, really can't do much to prepare for the playoffs. No offense to the Whalers or any of their players, but there was no way in hell this team was winning a playoff game, and especially not against a foe like Nevada. At this point in time, all the baby Whalers can really do is to continue to play hard and make their opponents work for their offense while also attempting to figure out the other teams' defense. If Vancouver can manage to squeeze out even one win in these playoffs, it would feel like a huge accomplishment into the progression of their rebuild. Go whalers?

THe scarecrows have prepared for the playoffs by going hard on the ice in practice. Doing anything we can to be in top tier shape to do some crazy things in these upcoming post season games. we are hitting eachother as hard as possible, shooting at the goalies with full strength, and making tape to tape passes until we have our hands bleed. I cant emphasize enough how hard we are going in the paint (ice). You come to our practices you might as well think we are killing eachother and doing bad things but no we are getting in the mood to do some damage to these other teams oyut there. be on the lookout for us to go hard as hell and make our names heard and make sure we are remembered for many generations to make sure we are doing it big time. we are the best on the planet and can take any team we want to.

The St. Louis Scarecrows had a very solid season this go round and found themselves in the SMJHL playoffs. They were matched up in the first round against the Great Falls Grizzlies, and they showed the league that they deserved to be where they are, with a four game series sweep. This first test has hopefully strengthened the Scarecrows, since their next match up would have them facing off against the 2nd best team from the regular season, Quebec City. This is a familiar opponent for the Scarecrows, one of their division rivals. This isn’t going to be and easy series for the St. Louis Scarecrows, but they do feel that Quebec should be feeling the same way. The underdog Scarecrows will have to play to the ultimate best of their abilities if they want to take down one of the Four Star Cup favourites. They are planning to take it one game at a time, and okay the hockey that they know they can play. The Scarecrows players and their faithful fans believe in this team and look forward to the challenge in front of them and the task at hand, winning the Four Star Cup.

I just saw the very first post of this was a Detroit guy basically talking about how they are going to roll everyone in the playoffs, so that's pretty funny.

Anyway, the team will be preparing for the playoffs by bringing in a lot of sheep and rams and petting them inside the cold, abandoned hellhole that is a hockey stadium. We're also going to be looking at how to carry momentum across series, going to see a movie night of Draft Day which contributes nothing but is a hilarious movie, as well as working on our abilities to pass and shoot from the slot and keep a constant movement and pressure going during offensive sets. We're also going to be preparing on keeping penalties clean, working on stick checking to generate turnovers, and buying a lot of local brooms. Always important to bring both game improvements and a good amount of energy into the arena when working on a playoff series. It builds character. Smile

The St. Louis Scarecrows have been preparing for playoffs since the opening game of the season. This has included: playing physical to match teams' styles and allow the Scarecrows to play their own game and impose the body on the other team to eliminate their chances of wanting to go into the corners for puck battles, and studying tape on teams that have made deep runs in the playoffs consistently over the past 3-4 seasons (Newfoundland, looking at you) and trying to emulate that style to get the Scarecrows to that level as well. Physicallity is criminally underrated in the playoffs and a physical team can beat a stronger skilled team just by being extremely tough to play against.

This might just be a growing season for the Scarecrows, but they will be ready to make a hell of a lot of noise in the playoff seasons the next season and beyond.
