5. In order to more effectively train and be competitive next season, Melvin found out that his antlers are able to go in the skate sharpener. He decided to spend the offseason working with the skate pro to make sure that his antlers were always filed to the finest of points. By allowing himself to be able to be a little bit more dangerous, in a good way, on the ice it might make the defenders think twice before they hit him. After all, Melvin would never intentionally hurt anyone, but he couldn't help if they hit themselves hard enough to get a little poke. Additionally, Melvin worked toward making sure that the entirety of the team had the option to wear similar headgear if they so chose. He worked with the equipment manager to order specialized antler helmets for the entire team, and while it seemed that only de Pengu may take him up on the offer, he was definitely excited about the prospect of a team of moose. (3)

18. Honestly, my favorite thing about Hotdog and Atlanta winning the cup is that a. micool's predictions of I'm gonna win the cup finally came true, and b. I remember first joining sim leagues and the ISFL and meeting Hotdog and learning about his expansion bid for the SHL and seeing the branding after he made it and everything. I think it's super cool that a. he was able to make a team and everything and b. that he's finally been able to see all of his hard work and dedication toward building a team from scrap finally come to fruition. I think for the most part playoffs went as expected, but I also think Chicago did better than anticipated, and that was definitely fun. Overall I'm happy. (2)

23. My biggest hopes and goals for the future are that I'm able to get started building a house in the next 12 months. Hopefully that will then allow to a whole host of things trickling forward, but most importantly, getting a house means that my boyfriend and I can finally stop being long-distance. Currently, with his job and salary it makes more sense for him to stay where he is, especially as moving would mean renting when he owns his home at the moment. I am still living with a very generous sister of mine, and once we have a place where we can be paying our forever home prices, it means we can just be.. settled and together and that's going to be very, very nice. If you're Seattle, how do you try to contain three lines of unending offensive pressure? If you're Atlanta, how do you ensure everyone is able to continue to contribute against such a stellar defense?

Obviously Seattle had their hands full from the get go.  The plan was had to be to limit shots and for the most part the Seattle defense was able to do this.  The problem is that Atlanta was also able to limit Seattle’s chances  especially in games five and six.  Atlanta was able to ensure victory by capitalizing on their limited chances as Willie Miller’s luck finally ran out.

Could any SMJHL team in history (if they were NOT capped at their usual 350/425 builds) have beaten any SHL team in history a 7 game series? Why or why not? What historical teams do you think are good candidates for this trial? Who do you think is the best team in SMJHL history and the worst team in SHL history? Would the J team have a chance? Make your case!

I think the S58 Maine Timber would have decimated the S54 Tampa Bay Barracuda easily.  That team was loaded with future stars like Rikard Bjerg, Walton Stromberg, Alexander Oscarsson, Adrik Baranov, and Nathan Thomas all at their peak.  But, not to mention Calvin Hobbes, Jonny Tsunami, Puddles O’Duck, Dogwood Maple, and Ville Kurri all played on this team as well, all of which are having long SHL careers.  This team was the epitome of stacked and I didn’t even realize how much talent they had at the time as I was focused on the SHL by this point in my own career.  On the flip side, Tampa Bay had only 6 players above 500 TPE and even worse, many skaters who seemed as if they were just there to puck watch, which is obviously why they failed to win a single game that season.  However, I think Maine would have a difficult time with any other team in SHL history.  Even this past season’s Edmonton team would probably smoke them.

Write your predictions for this year's IIHF tournament or WJC! Last season we had a lot of surprise finishes that shook up the groups quite a bit this time around. Do you think last year’s top teams will stay there? Was that an anomaly? Why or why not?

I’m writing this late, but it felt obvious to me that last season was a fluke from the beginning.  I did think that Switzerland might be able to make the medal round and make some noise despite their lack of TPE, but I had no expectations for Ireland this season so I guessed this correctly.  I absolutely nailed my prediction that Japan would miss for the first time in many seasons despite having the second highest TPE in the tournament, however I was shocked to see Latvia as the beneficiary of this.  The team with the least TPE in the tournament actually made the medal round.  Of course, the reward was a first round date with Sweden and that ended poorly for them.  Of the remaining matchups, I expect Sweden to prevail over Canada in a very tight matchup and Finland to beat Norway handily and then defeat Sweden in the gold medal game.  I think in the future that Sweden and Finland will be battling for quite some time.  Japan’s glory days are likely over.

Congratulations, procrastinator!  Through your terrible time management skills, you’ve unlocked a special task! [TEAM] has won it all! Were the playoffs as you expected this year, or were there some surprises? Did anything stand out to you about this season’s final series? Did the engine switch make a difference for you?

I really didn’t feel that the way things went in these playoffs were too surprising.  I think most of the league, including myself, had the Atlanta Inferno as the favorites from the beginning of the season.  However, I did not expect this season to be the one where the Seattle Argonauts broke through and seeing them go right through the Panthers and then coming back and beating Chicago after going down 2-0 was a bit unexpected.  Seeing that both teams had high quality defenses, I wonder if that will have an effect on the league where defense is seen once again is a premium instead of something nice to have.

a. I'm not sure many people would have seen this coming. Two teams that joined the league at the same time, both making the finals and competing against each other for their franchise-first cup. So... who do think wins it all? The first time to the Challenge Cup Seattle Argonauts, that have been dismantling higher seeded teams through their entire playoff run? Or the President's Trophy winning Atlanta Inferno that are back with a vengeance after a S64 Challenge Cup defeat?

b. You can't talk about Seattle's run without talking about the dominant performance of starting goaltender Willie Miller, who has posted a .935 SV% heading into the finals. If your Atlanta, how do you solve this brick wall? If your Seattle, what do you do to make sure your guy stays hot?

c. Atlanta's big storyline is their incredible depth. They have eleven players that have logged 10 or more points so far in the playoffs. If you're Seattle, how do you try to contain three lines of unending offensive pressure? If you're Atlanta, how do you ensure everyone is able to continue to contribute against such a stellar defense?

d. Seattle's powerplay has been on fire contributing 14 goals up to this point, which comes out to almost 30% of their goals scored (50G total) in these playoffs. Atlanta on the other hand have managed just 5 power play goals, which is only 5% of their scoring (59G total). In your opinion-- is this a good thing for Seattle, or a good thing for Atlanta? Maybe a good thing for both? Do you think a dynamic team like Seattle that can capitalize on so many of their PP chances will lead to Atlanta playing scared-- worried about what might happen if they enter the box? Do you think a relentless Atlanta team that is so flush with even strength scoring is going to be too much for Seattle to take?

a) I know it's cheating since the finals are already over, but my money was on the Atlanta Inferno to win it all. It was impressive to see Seattle beat all the higher-seeded teams, but I don't think their Cinderella run will continue in the finals. Their goalie is due to come back to earth at some time and unfortunately I think it'll happen in the finals.

b) If I were an Inferno player, I'd make sure to disturb Willie Miller as much as possible. It's been proven so far in the playoffs that he's good at stopping pucks so it's useless to try and shoot at him as much as possible. As for Seattle, I'd make sure to leave him as much vision as possible so he can keep doing his thing.

c) I'd continue to play the trap. It's boring hockey for most fans, but it seems to work for Seattle as they beat a lot of higher seed teams that they should've lost against. As for Atlanta, i'd keep pushing to make sure that they apply pressure against a Seattle team that will crack at some point. It's going to be a tough matchup for both teams.

d) I think it's a much better thing for Atlanta than it is for Seattle. Atlanta won all these games with a worse power play, so imagine how much better they'd be if their power play can pick it up. As for Seattle, I think it's worrying, because if their power play gets a bit worse, they'd have to rely on their 5on5 play to score, which isn't a good thing for them right now.

Take your SHL/SMJHL team’s name and enter it into an anagram generator (like this one: https://ingesanagram.com/) and generate a new team name! Choose one of the mixed-up results and tell me why it would be a fun choice for your franchise to rebrand to! Give me some jersey and logo ideas as well!

I entered Winnipeg Aurora in the anagram generator and had a lot more results that I thought I would. I settled on Ania Grow Unripe. Ania could be our new, old witch mascot. Think of it like a big cartoon character. Green face with big zits, big nose, pointy hat, grey hair, you know what I'm talking about. The rest of our logo would be unripe fruits, because that old witch grows fruits but doesn't wait until they're ripe. The jerseys would be grey with ugly colors like a bad dark green or burgundy. Our mascot would be the imbodiement of Ania and she'd give out bad fruits and vegetables to other team's fans that make the trip to Winnipeg, so people would think twice before coming to Winnipeg to encourage their favorite teams. The arena would be changed to make it as ugly as possible to make it look like our fans are entering Ania's lair.

Your player has been asked to use some of their immense pro-athlete wealth to open up an animal rescue! Lucky for you, the type of animal was not specified, so it’s your call! What kind of animal does your player want to protect and why? Is it something you find cute? Something that actually needs help? Or do you just want a herd of llamas on hand to threaten your enemies with? As a graphic task, show me your player hard at work tending to whatever animals you’ve chosen.

This one hits right in my character's backstory I've developped in the PTs over the last few seasons! Kaapo actually already has a animal rescue sanctuary in Finland. He's been helping stray dogs all his life and dedicates the better part of his offseason to rescuing poor abandonned dogs. With his immense wealth and notoriety, combined with his passion for animals, Kaapo Kampainen has decided to open a new animal rescue center in Winnipeg, where he settled down after a couple of years in Edmonton. This rescue however, would be different from the one in Finland. Not only will it accept stray dogs, but it'll also help the Winnipeg wildlife too! There are polar bears, belugas, birds, snakes, wolves, bisons, a lot of stuff to take care of! Kaapo has a big heart of gold and wants to help as many animals as possible, whether they're sick, injured, or just lost and without a home. It's a great initiative for all players around the league, so hopefully other players participate!

So. I am pretty sure that the Nevada Battleborn have a good chance to beat the Minnesota Monarchs in a seven game series this season. Being active for both teams I know about their strengths and weaknesses, what their star players are and how they are currently doing. Minnesota didn't perform well again this season and still managed to secure the first draft pick. Nevada on the other hand, has proven all the critics wrong and made history with an incredible series, as well as winning the title for the first time in their history. Especially because of their strength on defense and Minnesota's relatively weak offense, I think the matchup is more even than you might think. Even if it doesn't work out this year, I think Nevada has incredible young players with incredible talent and would be capable of that surprise within the next 3 seasons.

5.
So, there will be two big factors that will hopefully put Nevada on the same path of success that it entered this season. First there will be banners with 12-0 everywhere all over our home arena to remind everyone, friend or foe of the incredible feat of an undefeated playoff run. There will also be some banners that will read 20-0 in light of our 20 games win-streak in the regular season. Both of these feats were utter madness if you think about it and we want everyone else to know it, to fear us. That might be an edge worth exploiting.
Second, there needs to be a ton of motivational music on full blast. Nothing gets the blood boiling more than some good old Hardstyle or Hands-Up music with tons of bass. The enemy will shiver from hearing damage, we will get pumped up before entering glorious melee combat....uh hockey.
I see this as an absolute win!

Well. I just hope that this order also applies to the Junior League. So it's done, nevada has won the junior league. And how do you see this league won. a fantastic series of undefeated 20 games. In addition, not lost a single game in the playoffs. Had such an outstanding performance ever before? I'm not sure and hope that a player from the old guard might have something to say about that, but either way, definitely a season to remember. This team simply has no weaknesses. It's a top-notch team offensively and defensively, which is why the title surprises me, but doesn't take me completely by surprise either. There is still so much room for improvement for this young team that one could even speak of a dynasty here. It remains to be seen how it will continue over the next few seasons.

I got to say, a lot of my dreams hvae been fullfilled already. I have my dream job (could be paid better though), a loving partner who I married some years ago, a house with garden and a dog. Kids will arrive someday in the future as well. Not too shabby for not even being 30 years old right now. I just hope this path continues and that we will be blessed with vitality and the abilitiy to make the right decisions going forward. For myself I wish to improve on anxiety and sometimes my exaggerated competitiveness job-wise, because I tend to dramatize any setback that occours, forgetting that I already have made it much farer than other people in my age, acknowledging that I should foremost be thanksful for what I have already and not what I might get or not get in the future.

It’s never too early to start thinking about how you’re going to gain a competitive edge next season! How is your team going to go the extra mile to get wins next season? Is it a secret training regimen? Sneaky equipment modifications? Booby trapping the visiting teams’ locker room? Anything goes.

The Atlanta inferno is a strong hockey team. In fact they are the best team in the league and they had the most points in the season. They even have the most TPE. So when they need a special weapon they have to use something that is not hockey related. If they want to win the cup they don’t need to get better at hockey, they just need to be luckier. So the team superpower is their superstition. They have a lot of spells that they chant during and after the game to try to have luck on their side. Jeziak likes to say “Jim wen?” a lot of time during the day before a game. He knows very well when the gym is ! When the team scores a goal we can hear Shoyo Hinata mooing pretty loud. They even have a superfan that travels with the team. They cheer and write poems about the team and all of Atlante's success can be attributed to them. They are the true secret weapon.

a. Well hindsight is 20/20 but I don't think you needed to be an Expert to predict that Atlanta would win this one. Sadly this era of the SHL is one that is dominated by the favorites, with the teams that finished first in the regular season winning the Cup in both the SHL and SMJHL, and in pretty dominant fashion as well. So yeah unless things change dramaticall, my money will always be on the on-paper favorites.
b. Willie Miller truly was fantastic this postseason but sadly when his magic started to run out, the Argonauts cup chances withered as well. It would have been truly lovely to see him backstop the Argonauts to a Cup. But ultimately Atlanta were able to beat him not with their starpower but due to their depth. Put out three or four lines that are consistently dangerous and no goalie will be able stand up to that barrage forever.
c. Damn I didn't even see that this next question would be about depth when I wrote my previous answer, nice! Well right now I don't think there is much you can do to contain a team with so much depth, we have seen it time and time again in recent years that the deepest teams in the league just overpower the rest. You can pray that your goalie stays hot, that your own stars put in some magic performances, but ultimately the odds will be stacked against you.
d. I think it's a good thing for both, you can draw positives from both situations, but ultimately it's better for Atlanta. No Powerplay of that quality stays cold forever, it is simply much easier to get your PP-unit sharpened up than to instill extra 5-on-5 scoring into an entire team, if that team had been struggling with it so far. The one thing is just easier to add/fix than the other.

That's not even really a question for me, the answer is a clear and re-sounding yes. It is a pretty regular occurence in the SMJHL to see teams stacked with 3rd and 4th year players in the 600-900 TPE range and you can build a solid SHL-caliber lineup from that. It still would have been tough for that team to beat SHL teams for much of the SHLs existence - up until recently, when all-out tank operations became a thing in the big leagues. Now you see SHL teams tearing it down every few seasons, trading away everything they have and keeping their good rookies in juniors, icing pitiful rosters that mostly consist of IAs that are way below the older SMJHL player both in pure TPE count and build quality. There have been a bunch of teams like that over the last decade or so that wouldn't just have struggled against some of the best teams in SMJHL-history, but also just against a bunch of the better team playing in the SMJHL in that very season.

I have to go for some old timey OGs for this so there is no way around Joe McKeil and Chris McZehrl as two of the Forwards here and of course I'll put in my own previous player David Winter as the 3rd player on that line. Three players that came into the league almost at the same time, that ended up shaping Team Germany for years if not decades, who still reign near the top of various all-time stat categories. Complementing them will be Darian Scherbluk and Brandon Cant to make for a great S7-S11 collection of players, with Timo Haas in net who didn't have a very long career, but who somehow is always the first guy that comes to mind for me when I think "German goalie".

It's a region called "Rheinhessen" which is in South-Western Germany, a relatively rural part of the country but the again also very close to the Frankfurt Metropolitan region and the commercial opportunities it provides and a close connection to the World through one of the biggest Airports in Europe. Rheinhesse is actually one of the warmes regions in Germany and even outside of the current heatwave the whole continent seems to be in, things can almost feel Mediterranean here at times. Long and warm Summers, barely any Snow in the Winter and not a lot of rain either throughout the rest of the year - which is why we are one of Europe's biggest wine regions as well!

6. I think it woul be hilarious if there was a curse related to the team that did the worst the previous season always never being able to get a good draft pick. You tank all season and you have just a terrible year on the ice, and your top 1 overall draft pick is guaranteed to be a big dud that will never pan out for you. There are numerous examples that could be used to name this curse after from all sorts of sports and all sorts of different examples of why their careers went haywire once they got that 1 overall selection. The draft is never a perfect science and will never be 100% perfect and I think it would be really funny if the team that just gets shelled the absolute worst during the season gets a reward of jack-squat once the next season draft rolls around. Ironic. +3 TPE

20.  You have heard of the Buffalo Stampede, but have you heard of the Lambasted Pouffe(s), The pouffes are among the best in the world and you have, or ever will see anything like, these guys. The Pouffes are a crazy team of crazy hockey players that are just all about the game and they love themselves some hard playing on the ice. They also have some of the most comfortable and fun setting arrangements both in their team transportation as well as in their stadium. As well, the lambasted adjective creates a situation in which oppositing players and team know what they are getting into when they take us on! They think they will get an easy team full of comfortable sitting arrangements and ottomans, but that could not be farther from the truth. They are going to get lambasted when they come into our house and we are going to play a great game and get some real good stuff done! Go Poufes!

23. It has been a weird couple of months. I went from working a hard summer job a few weeks ago to a very intense school year that is really kicking my ass right now. I have lost 5 pounds have seen my blood pressure go up almost 40 points in recent weeks. It is all just very hard, but I am just not sure where it is leading me in terms of what I want to do. I want to help people and I want to do a job in which I can be selfless for a living. I just feel a bit frustrated right now because school is just so personalized in a lot of ways and I want to help people more with everyday rather than just further my own education. Where thing are going I am not sure, but I am hoping things will work themselves out as time goes forward. I just hope I am making a positive net impact on the world. I hope for that at least in the long run.  +2 TPE

Sticking with the “last prompt is just letting people write about themselves” idea, here we go! I’m curious to know what sort of things you hope for in the world! What are your dreams? Maybe that’s a dream job, a dream house, an opportunity for your kids. I don’t know! Whatever you want to write about. What do you hope for in the future?

As an educator and a human being, I know that my goal in life is to help others. I'm the kind of person to give the shirt off his back, the kind of person who never gives up on someone who needs me, and, through my career, a consistent day-to-day presence for a lot of kids who struggle to have stability and someone who shows they care at home. We just started our school year on Thursday, and it's been a wild and crazy two days, with some stories most of you wouldn't believe, but I wouldn't change it for the world. I only hope that others can do as I have been lucky enough to do and find their purpose, because then, no matter how hard things get, you feel the fulfillment that comes with knowing you are making a true impact and difference. 13. Graphic, 1 TPE, crAIyon? More like CWaiyon!
In the spirit of the insanely easy ring task that stayed around forever, we can run this one again!. Try using OpenAI’s DALL E Mini (now known as crAIyon) to generate a Challenge Cup related image. It could be a championship ring, your player lifting the cup, a locker room celebration. Go nuts as long as you’re attempting to make it SHL related! The results will be weird, but it’s fun!

Winland, oh sweet Winland! I'm super excited to be playing in my first IIHF tournament after repping the team in the WJC, so this is a perfect prompt for the moment! Without further ado...

F - Walter Salming: The Seattle winger had a great resurgent season, even outpacing the man many picked as a 1st rounder in fantasy in Vaseline Podcalzone. 65 points and a Challenge Cup appearance. Yes please.

F - Walton Stromberg: The San Francisco center put up an incredible 89 points on the season, finishing just two behind the team leader, Kev Kevens. He also finished 5th in the league in assists with 55!

F - Zoltan Topalo: Who doesn't love Jase?! His player was once again a huge part of Tampa Bay's success, as he finished the season with 77 points.

D - Eero Makela: Every fantasy season leaves users scrambling to find a D man or two who can help carry their team, and Eero was the hot name on the block last season (and continues to be this season). Makela combines good scoring totals (52 points) with fantastic defense (273 blocks and 75 takeaways) to be a great all-around player at D.

D - Jay O'Neil: The youngest player on this list, the Winnepeg defenseman doesn't pride himself on adding to the offense, but rather locking down the opposing team, as he finished with 51 takeaways!

G - Mat Smith: The Finland starter represents the Chicago Syndicate in the SHL. He finished 2nd in the league in wins last season with 35, and posting a goals against average of 2.98.

18. Written, 2 TPE - The Procrastinator Special! (100 words min.)

I think this season was pretty wild all around with the sim swap. Teams took a lot of time figuring out what might work through trial and error. When it came time for the playoffs, I was pleasantly surprised by my former team, the Seattle Argonauts. The team lost a few key players and depth pieces but ended up pushing the eventual champions Atlanta to the bring in the Challenge Cup finals. While things didn't exactly go our way in our playoff series against Toronto, we in Montreal were relatively pleased at the growth we showed to get there and know we are set up well for future seasons and are hopeful for a cup run of our own in the coming years.
