15. This should be a very interesting IIHF. I still expect the current big 4 of the United States, Canada, Finland, and Sweden to be the dominating forces, but I’m also expecting some of the smaller Federations, such as Czechia, Norway, and Switzerland, to make some noise this tournament. I predicted a gold medal for Canada, a silver for Sweden, and a bronze for the United States I think. In terms of my nation, Japan is going to be bad. We have a roster with a mix of young players and people deep into regression with not a lot of prospects coming up to replace them. To state it bluntly, Japan is in a state of disarray right now and I don’t see us getting out of it anytime soon. I hope I’m wrong and we can get back to our medal winning ways, but I frankly don’t see it happening soon. I don’t expect much out of my player individually this tournament, probably like 3 points and no playoff points since we wont make the playoffs. (+3 TPE)
18. I think Seattle winning the cup wasn’t really a surprise, but I do think Manhattan making the run they did was a surprise to me. I was fully expecting an Atlanta/Seattle rematch for the cup but Manhattan did a great job in the playoffs to reach the finals. Overall I do think FHM 8 is still a massive improvement over 6. The 3d sim isn’t great and there are still some issues but looking at both playoffs there are absolutely some big upsets and more parity occurring than we were getting in 6. Watching Maine make the run that they did, seeing Montreal upset Toronto, and watching Quebec all season in what was supposed to be a rebuilding season for them shows that we’re making the right steps parity wise. Starting with Newfoundland, I wanna give a shoutout to @JNH, @Nhamlet, @juke, @Dangles13, @Sburbine, @RashfordU, @Tylar, @teztify, @Lime, @Patty. Newfoundland is still one of the best J locker rooms in the leagues and the names I just mentioned are a large reason why. A quick shoutout to some of my favorite people in Japan:@SFresh3, @TheWoZy, and @slothfacekilla. And finally, San Francisco. Of course the biggest shoutout in the world goes to @Toast, but I also wanna acknowledge @AgentSmith630, @Henrik,@boom, @artermis,@r1c3bowl22, @ZootTX, @Caleb_H, @lespoils,@Ruggsy,@LordBirdman, and everyone else in there. How would you replace gold, silver, and bronze? The idea behind using these three metals in the first place is their relative rarity and value, although bronze seems like an odd choice instead of copper. Then again bronze is something like 85% copper, it's just alloyed with some other stuff to make it durable. Now, this is hockey, right? And hockey is a grueling sport. Hockey tournaments are some of the toughest sporting events anyone can participate in. So why not honor the winners with metals that represent their toughness? For first place, I'm thinking perhaps an osmium medal. It would have to be pretty small: osmium is the densest material you can find on earth. Just 1 cubic inch of the stuff weighs more than half a pound! Another reason it would have to be small, and why it's nice for first place: it's astonishingly rare, much rarer than gold or even platinum. And it's certainly tough, it's notoriously difficult to shape, machine, or work in any way, and its melting point is the 4th-highest of any element. Second place gets another tough metal, tungsten. It's one of the only elements with an even higher melting point than osmium, and it's famous for its toughness. It isn't quite as rare as osmium, but it's rarer than the third-place metal, titanium. Titanium has one of the highest strength-to-weight ratios of any material. There's my idea: three tough metals, in descending order of rarity, osmium, tungsten, and titanium.
20. Championship Leek: 200-ish words, +3 TPE
So first I had to remind myself what a "leek" actually is, since I thought a leek was basically just a small onion. Which... yes and no. They're in the same genus as onions, but they're actually a completely different thing. They also aren't the same thing as scallions, which was news to me. I definitely thought they were different words for the same thing. I'm glad I sorted that out, it would've been embarrassing if I was asked to judge a leek competition and showed up at a scallion competition instead. So what makes a championship leek? First you want a good healthy size: a large circumference and some real heft. No scrawny leeks here, we want stout, honest, hard-working leeks! Color is important too, you want a clean, spotless white on the stem part, no yeallow; and a dark, even green for the leaves, no spots or pale areas. And a champion leek must be symmetrical of course, no weird bumps on the stem, an even number of leaves, nicely distributed, and nothing weird going on with the roots. When all else fails you could judge on flavor I suppose, but since leeks are gross it seems like a poor way to choose a winner. "Least awful-tasting vegetable" is hardly a prestigious title.

a. Answer: Seattle is back in the finals for the second time in a row. While last season was an unexpected run led by a miracle goalie performance-- this season's appearance comes at no surprise to those who watched their offseason closely. What roster changes do you think have put Seattle in this position again? Do you think it's enough for them to finish the job this time around?
Answer: I think what really pushed seattles over the top this season was the big offseason trades they made to add some key veterans to their team that have had a lot of offensive success throughout their careers. Getting guys like Luukas Lilja, Jonas Kahnwald and Jimmy Wagner from the Los Angles Panthers who have a cup ring and lots of playoff experience was huge.
3. Written, 3 TPE, Song of the Playoffs (150 words min.)
Every season the NHL buys the rights to a song that they edit their playoff promotional materials to. This season we’re doing the same thing for the SHL! Pitch me your “Song of the S67 Playoffs”! Who sings it? Why do you think it would make a good hype song?
Answer: Music has long been an important part of the Simulation Hockey League and in hockey more generally. It plays a huge role in the atmosphere in an arena, and many players will listen to music before the puck drop to get ready for the game especially to get hyped before a playoff game. So my pitch for the Song of the S67 Playoffs would be Thunderstruck sang by AC/DC. This is a classic that is not only fun to sing along to, but everything from the vocals to the guitar just gets you amped up. It is great to play at all times of the game, but especially after a big hit or a huge goal. Despite how long the song has been around, and how often most of us have heard it, it simply never gets old and will continue to be played by hockey players and fans for years to come and would be the perfect playoff song.
4. Written, 3 TPE, Tough to Swallow (150 words min.)
In your opinion, who was the best SHL or SMJHL team to NOT win the Challenge Cup / Four Star Cup? Who was on that team, and why do you think they deserved to win it all? What round did they lose in and how? Was it bad luck? A hot opposing goalie? Inexperience?
Answer: I am probably a bit biased but I think the season fifty four Newfoundland Berserkers are the best SMJHL team in history to NOT win the Four Star Cup. When you look at things that team would have future SHL MVPs, top points scoeres at forward (and record breaks), absolute studs on the backend and a starting goaltender at the SHL level. The team consisted of future star SHLers such as: Steve Harrington, Ryuuji Minamino, Jack Klompus, Patric Twist, Mats Marner, Cale Amundsen, Elias Kierkegaard, Jukka Timonen, (Clean) Andrei Kostitsyn, Liam Slate and many more. Now just imagine if that was your SHL team right now with all those players I am sure you would have a cup team right there. Many of these guys went on to win Challenge Cups and that hard fought serious against the Carolina Kraken in the eastern conference finals of the SMJHL playoffs was really the finals series. After the Kraken won that close series they went onto winning the Four Star Cup so I think Newfoundland would have been in that same spot.

Write your predictions for this year's IIHF tournament or WJC! Tell me about your team! Are they up and coming? Win now mode? Entering into a re-build phase? What are your expectations for your player? What teams are you watching out for this time around?
Answer: Season sixty seven was another step in the right direction during its IHHF tournament for team Latvia. While there is still more growing left for this pretty young team, last season was the first in many seasons that team Latvia made it out of the round robin which was huge. Even though team Latvia lost in the quarter finals they had some really big wins against some major players in the world. An exciting thing for this tournament too will be Mats Marner wearing the captaincy for team Latvia again so I hope that I will be able to lead the team to some success. There are going to be some rookies joining the team this season with a lot of promise including Teodors Skalbergs, Koty Kochan and Gravy Train. In addition, there are going to be some players on team Latvia that will be retiring. Overall, I hope team can improve on their quarter finals finish from last season and think it can be done.

d. In many ways this seems like a battle of who can stay hotter longer. Both teams have PDO ratings as high as 110 while barely having any players that dip below 100. Seattle and Manhattan are both on absolute heaters of strong goalies and high shooting percentages. What do you think is driving this, and who do you think can keep it going longer? Who comes out on top?
I think Seattle comes out on top and keeps their heat going in the finals, they brought in some veteran players and lets face it, Manhattan likely shouldn't be a cup contender, they got lucky and made it this far, but I believe their luck has to run out against a Seattle team that has also had luck and a better group of players behind it.

20. Championship Leek - 3 TPE
Judging leeks is a serious matter, and do not let anyone tell you differently. There is a lot to a leek that can occasionally go unnoticed by the less-observant populace. Aesthetics, of course, are always of import. One cannot have a championship leek unless it is of the highest quality, the choicest rareness, the rare spiciness and and shock that only the greatest leeks can supply. No one is impressed or shocked with a minor, predictable leek. One must be rendered speechless at the mere sight of the leek, truly confounded in its size, girth, and proportions. But that is not the only measure of a quality leek. One must also question its timing, its ability to deliver, delight, and surprise. The leek itself must be able to take you on a journey, at once both familiar and surprising. A difficult bridge to walk, which only the choicest and most impressive leeks could possible content.
21. Speedrunning - 3 TPE
For those that are unaware, 'speedrunning' is sort of an unofficial challenge that people put on themselves when it comes to any activity. some sort of task that requires precision and skill in order to deliver on a deadline. In video games, where this is most common, the top records and times can only be achieved with feats of daring and technical expertise. If we were to bring the same concept to the SHL, there's a few targets that are obvious choices. Fastest time to go from missing the playoffs to a Cup win. Or perhaps how long between being drafted and hitting 500 goals in the SHL. But those are obvious and somewhat boring awards. I want to see the folks who speed run fastest to some absurd amount of penalty minutes in a season. Or how long until they are traded for spare parts as a unneeded or wanted player. Something interesting, that you don't see every day.
22. We Should Start a Band - 3 TPE
You know, there's probably more money in music these days anyway. Imagine the residuals you can live off of if you manage to get a hit out there. So if we were starting a band, I suppose that Jon St. Ark would be a drummer. Think about it, when you are behind a drum kit you need to do another of things at once with your feet and your arms. Goalies must practice the same sort of skills, using their whole bodies in order to make a clutch save or take up space in the net. Also, goalies are typically in an incredibly important place in the game but they are not always at the forefront, the way a forward or a lead guitarist might be. So drummers are goaltenders, that means we need to fill in the other spots of the lineup. At lead guitar We can put Nikolaj Boyle on bass guitar, because he plays a great supporting role on defense and should be used to it. And then we'll put Xavier Doom and Vlastislav Mailk in guitar and let them fight out who gets to be lead.
5. Hotel room, 3 TPE
As a veteran and starting goalie on the Chicago Syndicate, Mat Smith has earned the right to his own hotel room when the team is travelling. Despite this, he chooses to bunk with his good friend Ben Jammin. In Smith's words, Jammin "always has the best tunes playing," "is the best on the team at snuggling," and "is always a delight to be around." When asked how they pass the time, Smith laughed and responded "we mostly just banter, sometimes he'll play some League of Legends and I'll play some Destiny 2. Other than that though we don't spend much time in the room, nobody on the team really does. We all go out for dinners and hang out together." Smith then thought for a moment before following it up with "well that's not true, we have been known to have some hotel room parties from time to time, nothing crazy but a great way to break up a long road trip.
18. Procrastinator, 2 TPE
Besides Chicago losing in the first round, I'm happy with the playoffs this season. Winnipeg and Manhattan are two teams I've liked for awhile so I have no complaints seeing either of them succeed. Good for Winnipeg for winning, I wouldn't call it an upset since they went all in this season with trades and such, and good for Manhattan, I can't say I wasn't surprised by their Cinderella run, and that'll be a team with many more chances to compete for a Cup. As far as FHM 8 goes, compete-wise it's definitely given some new life to the league and made it much more interesting since it's not just the top three or so teams that can win all the time, but I do really hate that presentation, the slowness and the decisions that the players make are just excruciating to watch. Still an upgrade over FHM 6 though.
22. Band, 3 TPE
I would create my band like a hockey team, with each member's role on the ice filling a similar role in the band. For example, I would be the drummer, since to me every great band has a capable drummer who you can rely on to be set a consistent beat that the rest of the band plays off of. Similarly, every hockey team needs a capable goalie who you can rely on to make routine saves to keep the skaters in the game. On bass guitar I would choose a defensive defenseman, the unsung hero of the band who nobody really pays attention to but is incredibly important nonetheless. For this there's no better option than music icon Ben Jammin. Lead guitar is definitely an offensive forward, someone who likes to make a lot of flashy plays. Here I'm slotting in SHL record-holder for goals Ryuuji Minamino. On vocals we could have another offensive forward, but I think a good two way guy is important here. Someone who can steal the show but also someone who can take a backseat and help others shine. For this position one of the first names that came to mine is none other than Jean-Uhtred Soderberg-Tremblay.
23. Say something nice, 2 TPE
The most important quality of a great GM in my mind is definitely the ability to make their players to feel welcome, accepted, and comfortable in their locker room. With this in mind I have been so incredibly lucky to have had the GMs I've had over my two+ years on the site. Starting with @Evok, you put a piece of your heart into QCC when you created it, and are one of the most generous people I've ever met to have invited everyone in with open arms into it, even accepting us into your home. @Faelax, you are quite possibly the chillest human being on the planet, you're the type of friend that everyone should have in their life. The type of person that within moments of meeting you, anyone would consider you to be like a brother. Evok and Flex, I love every moment I get to interact with you two, without both of you I'm not sure how far I would have made it in this league, and I'm not sure how many amazing people I would have missed out on meeting as well. @SDCore, to keep things short and sweet, I have never met anyone quite like you, in the best way possible. You're the perfect combination of witty, sarcastic, and just purely, unapologetically caring. @JNH, it's no wonder that even after your over ten years on the site, I've yet to encounter anyone who's had a negative thing to say about you. You're such an easy to talk to, inviting, and kind person that I just don't think it would be possible. Corey and J, without you two there would be no Chicago. I don't mean that the team would fold or that we would never be competitive, though both are probably true, what I mean to say is you two didn't just create the culture in the locker room, you are the culture, from the moment I got drafted to when you two took over to today and beyond.

The SHL's official song of the playoffs should be G.W.W. by Revanchist. the reason being that i wrote/recorded the song and it's good. For real tho, this shit goes hard - it's perfect for the intensity we all know and love from playoff hockey. what better to match with hard hitting, aggressive and primal hockey than hard hitting, aggressive and primal riffs? it's a match made in heaven, a true no brainier, it's obvious when you sit down and really think about it with your thinkin' brain. plus the music video we made for it has lots of blood, which is also a staple of SHL playoff hockey. or it should be anyways. we should start sticking lil razor blades in the gloves of players kinda how they used to do in the WWE. i see absolutely no downside to this plan. Ok that's enough, go listen to my song now please and thank you very much. (157 words)

'm gonna make the argument that the Regina Elk teams for these last two seasons, s66 and S67, was fantastic and absolutely deserved a better a fate than they were dealt in the end. Both teams were absolutely stacked with capped out players with some solid young blood adding crucial depth. S67 was the best season in Elk history and the round 2 loss in 6 was really a punch to the gut, truly a loss that will sting for some time for all those involved.
So instead of focusing on the pain, i'd like to go over the amazing members of those Regina teams. Of course ,one cannot start a discussion on the recent regular season dominance by Regina without talking about the legendary leader, D.A.D. He led on and off the ice. M'baku and Don Juan also contributed mightly to the offence, while the defence driven by the likes of Lord Farquaads, Hodor, and Angry Gilmore combined with rookie hotshot goalie Alexis Texas to have a league leading GAA. overall, while the playoffs disapointments sting, the S66 and S67 Regina Elk teams were truly something special. While Kezia does pride themselves on their physical ability and athletic acumen as a player, they still know when to blow off some steam, especially during particularly turbulent road trips. Kezia absolutely loves live music and will take every oppurtunity to see a band that they might only vaguely know of or like while on the road. Usually this involves dragging a couple teammates out to shows with them, and while some might protest initially, by the end of the evening everybody along for the ride is usually in various states of non-sobriety which generally makes everyone forget about any misgivings they might have had. Early on in their junior career with the Regina Elk, this proved to be an issue for Kezia as he was late to a couple practices which resulted in disciplinary action on more than one occasion. As Kezia grew as a player and matured as an adult, they learned to strike a balance between work and play. (162 words)

A) This is the season I think Seattle can pull off the win. As mentioned last season they were lead by a hot goalie, but they still had a very good roster. This season they built on the roster and added a couple of big pieces to boost their offence. I think they will also have the benefit of playing a weaker Manhattan team then they had to play last season. (71)
B) The rage definitely have the under dog story this season and they have a lot of players playing above expected values, one key player being lev lebedev. However, I think the biggest contributing factor to this is their coaching, and I think the coaching staff should be recognized for their performance this post season. (55)
C) Knowing little about the sim, I do not think the schedule will play much of a factor into how the games play out. I know during the regular season players can get tired from playing to much. However, I believe in the playoffs the gap at the end of the playoff series gives enough time for rest. So I do not think it will be much of a benefit. (70)
D) I think at this point you have to start playing the law of averages. Seattle is simply a better team, so they will naturally have a higher PDO with their team preforming better. Heading into the finals it is more like the Rage regress, while Seattle stays on top of their game. So the Rage will have to show out. (60)

This is easy, and it is a throwback so it is not complete new. My song would Savin me by Nickelback - now I know there are a lot of people who are self proclaimed nickelback haters, but I think that is mostly a persona they put on in the public, and many of them actually jam to nickelback when in private. This song would unite the two groups, it is an easy rock listen, and it is easy to learn the lyrics to the song. This song was used for game 7 in the edmonton and carolina series. I suggest you take some time out of your day and go listen to the song. The SHL would be able to bump this song, and bring the users together, and get amped up for a great playoff hockey season. There might be some better hype songs, but a lot of them get repetitive after the first listen, which is why Saving me is a great choice for the song. (168)

Write your predictions for this year's IIHF tournament or WJC! Tell me about your team! Are they up and coming? Win now mode? Entering into a re-build phase? What are your expectations for your player? What teams are you watching out for this time around?
I don't think there will be much change in the overall standings for IIHF. Sure there is always sim luck that could change the outcome, and move a couple teams up or down. However, IIHF usually follows the averages pretty closely due to larger nations being on the top. Smaller nations struggle as they do not get new recruits(Finally Austria got some recruits!!), while bigger nations just sit there and wait for new players to sign up. This is why I don't think we will see much change from the top nations. Canada will always be a strong nation, Finland is another strong team, in which you can throw Sweden in there with them as well. The one nation which is an outlier is Japan, as they are often a strong team as well. But as we've seen many teams are facing GM issues, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out. So essentially yes, I think that was an anomaly and we will see the top nations back on top shortly. (175)
