Task 9 - + 3 TPE

This was my very first season in the SHL, and to be honest with you, I had no idea what to expect. I'd come from 4 fairly decent seasons in the minors, which included a winning the title during my 3rd year. Then, once I was getting ready to start my rookie season with the team that drafted me, it turns out I got sent to another team right before the season started. That obviously came as a bit of a shock. I mean, I was getting ready to move to Texas and already had plans made there and everything, but then whatever plan I had drafted up basically went out the window and all of the sudden, I'm trying to get whatever place I can afford in Boston on short notice and taking calls from the GM of an entirely different team than the one I had already gotten to know. I'd say despite this early whirlwind, I managed to make the most of a rookie season that I was not really entirely sure about, in terms of my personal performance. There was obviously a lot of things I had to get used to that were different in the minors compared to the majors, but a total of 51 points in my rookie season is nothing to sneeze at, I would say. It did suck to lose so early into the playoffs, because I felt like me and the rest of the team had a lot left to give, but hey, that's what this new season is for.

7. (5) I'm honestly really surprised and saddened to not see John Brown make an appearance at the All Star Game. I've been pretty busy lately and totally get that I'm not in tune with the rest of the league, but I think it's just sad to not see myself there. I always have liked All Star Weeks and not being able to participate is a huge bummer. It really sucks not getting to see how things are and how I can stay involved, but overall it's not that big of a deal. You win some and you lose some. So, hopefully I can just be in the next All Stars event. Hopefully.

4. (8) Overall, I think it is rather interesting to see things go differently and have a unique take on the events for All Stars. Creating a pool of people to draft from if I understand it right isn't too bad, but I do think that the pool should be a wider amount of people. Having a bigger amount of people for the users to select from would be a really nice move, even if not all of them get selected. I do think that this will need some more refinement for future events, but it is a step in a good direction. So I'm happy to see it happen, and always happy to see change take place. But, mostly I think I'm gonna be pretty bummed not getting picked myself, but you win some and you lose some. Most of all, just good on people for actually making change and seeing it through. Always happy to have innovation in the league.

a.
All three Montreal players are solid options but Jussi Mutou and Valerija Serapin are both rookies who had great seasons for the rebuilding Patriotes. But Mutou was 3rd on the team in goals and 1st on team in assists, which was tied for most points on the team. But Mutou also led the team in hits with 102. So Mutou showed offensive and physical skills that would easily fit on the All-Star team.

b.
Topalo and O'Slapahan are great defenseman, but honestly I was surprised that Willow Söderberg-Snooks was not taken higher. The number one point getter for all defensemen was 5th one taken in the All-Star draft. Another defenseman that was taken much later than they should have been, after the season they had, was Wide Peepo Happy 3 Koivu.

c.
I would say the JRuke has the better top line and its not close. Bergmark and Martin is a deadly combo. Bergmark is an elite sniper and Martin is an elite playmaker. And to add the veteran Aksel Fiske, who is very versatile, onto the line just really solidified that it would such a force.

d. Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz and Sir Devoir were picked with back to back picks and thus both teams secured their started. Does either side have advantage on net? Back up goalies were picked lot later, do you think they can play role in the game at all?
Sir Devoir is an outstanding goalie. While Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz  is also great, I think the Los Angeles defense helped out more. Devoir posted a league best 2.69 GAA (goalies with 20+ starts) and also a league best 24.65 GSAA. It goes to show the Devoir held his own and is the stronger netminder.

A popular format of media that has made a resurgence recently due to certain dedicated media writers, The Player's Tribune involves writing from your player's point of view in the 1st person. Write your Player's Tribune about your player's season. How do they feel about their results? Did they achieve their goals? Are they venting out frustration? Are there any moments of the season that were memorable?
I'm going to be honest with you all. Hell I may even be frank. That's a dad joke for everyone. Go ahead and laugh because the rest of this will not be as entertaining. You see, I'm very disappointed with myself. There isn't much I can say about it. I think I am on par with most of my peers, but that is not what I want. I was a star and I have been a team star since I got here. This year, however, I just couldn't string it together. I haven't been focused like I should be. I am not applying myself like I should be. You know, if I did not have as good of a family support system or such a collection of model trains, I may have called it quits. Regulated myself to coaching Junior B or something. I can do better, and I will do better. I am getting another cup. I am getting top minutes. I AM GETTING MORE THAN ONE MILESTONE TPE.

The league has multiple awards, yet there is always room for improvement. What award would you add? Why that award and who it would be named after? Or which of the current awards would you change? How would you change it and why?

This is a great question. A marvelous one at that. I think our awards are lacking in some ways for sure. Provided I even know what our awards are. I think I would name an award that is similar to a Lady Bing or something. Like an award for nicest guy on the ice. Maybe one for nicest guy off the ice? Yea I like that. I would then name it after Simon LeBlanc. He is a national treasure in every way shape and form. I heard he once reconciled with an Italian player after saying "Olive Garden really is a Tuscan Sunset." I mean, how does one even begin to walk that back. Now, knowing the SHL we would somehow turn this into us making fun of someone. Like giving the most recent bigot this award because we can be cheeky like that. Hopefully that isn't the way we go with it, but whatever,

Votes are in and rosters finalized, how you feel about the last 4 players that were voted in? Do you think there were more deserving players that were left out or were you surprised to see these players not to be picked in first place? Did player you voted for get in?

I unfortunately missed the deadline to vote, as I was getting a cleanup procedure on my knee to prep for next year, but I wholeheartedly approve of the winners. Nathaniel Barca is an absolute legend and it would've been criminal if they were not selected to participate in this year's festivities. When you throw in elite names like Jack McCarthy Graj Virrok, and Lasse Zeigler?  We're talking about one of the most historically stacked last group in we've ever had. It's a wonderful way to celebrate the stars of this league and I know those four will relish the opportunity.  Heck, they might even take home MVP honors given their skill level.  Some serious gamechangers across the different positions in that quartet.

I think everyone knows when their run is coming to an end. Whether it's sore knees, a hairline that's creeping up, or just the realization that you can't quite keep up with the young guns any more on the ice.  For me, that time is rapidly approaching. It takes me a little bit longer to recover after a game and I just don't quite have as much in the tank as I used to.  But you know what?  That's okay. We're each given our time in this league, if we're lucky enough to make it, and much like the seasons or the tide, we eventually will be thrown back to mother nature.  That's why this year, I'm going to enjoy every single game, because there's a very real chance this is the last time I lace 'em up in SHL.  Nothing taken for granted this season, no just going through the motions. I'm going to relish every arena, every spotlight, and every chance to play this game that I've loved for so long.  If this is the end, it's been a hell of a ride.

Tell me about your teammate who made the all star game! Who are they, why were they an obvious choice to make the All Star roster, and what do you expect from them this ASG? (If more than one of your teammates made the game, pick one of those players other than yourself. If you are the only player on your team selected for the all star game so far, write about your team's candidate for last man in instead.)

Well, there's multiple Panthers in the All Star Game given how many talented players there are on this team - so it's really hard for me to just single out and talk about only one of them but if I have to talk about Adam Prpich. I'm really glad to be on a team with this guy now because before he was making me look really bad. Firstly, he was making me look bad on the ice by just how naturally gifted he is and just dusting Bergling all over the ice. Much nicer when your job is just to give him the puck. Second, he was making me look bad off the ice when Luke spent an entire prospect ranking series dunking on how badly Rich was dusting me in the earning department. Can't a guy just half ass a recreate in peace? Now that he's on my team, our success is tied so really anything good he does will hopefully rub off on me or at least cover up whatever I'm out there doing in the first place.

The last player voted in is always a tough one because everyone has these players on the team that they feel are oh so deserving of a spot in the all star game, but there's only so many that can go around in a league like this one. Of course I feel like a lot of my teammates should be out there in the all star game, probably over guys like Beauregard but at the same time you have to be realistic. So I think your best bet is to not sweat the details, be happy for the four players that got voted in and hopefully do a better job next year of supporting your teammates so they can make it on their own merits - and maybe do some more media campaigning.

Aleksandr Iskandrov was the individual who was selected to the all star game for HAM He is absolutely the obvious choice to be OUR GUY. He is the leader of our team and has maxxx swag. He is also very very talented and has the ability to change the game on a dime. Another thing that people dont know about him is his determination for the game, he is a person that looks at every single detail, and thus does not make any mistakes and works hard with the weights in the weight room. All of this to say, he is an obvious choice for us to make the ASG. I expect massive things from him in the game, especially because he will use his giant frame and reach to make a big difference for the players on the ice. Anything less than 3 goals and I will be disappointed, he should put up 6!

4. Written, 3 TPE, It is the draft season (150 words min.)
This season we saw huge changes on how All-Star teams were formed. How do you like the new draft format for all-star teams? Do you think it is good that committee picks the pool from which the players are drafter? Should there be more players from each team on the pool? Are last season cup finalist good picks for selecting the players?

The huge changes on how All-Star teams were formed is actually very good in my eyes. I am big fan of the new draft format for the all star teams. I like the fact that the committee picks from the pool from which the players are drafted, rather than the old way of doing things. I think that the committee choosing the pool is good, which allows the captains to focus on the list and the players they want to build around. I actually think the amount of players is also good. Usually after a certain point in these sorts of games, there becomes too much bloat and unnecessary players.. I dont mean that in a bad way, but all star games is inherently a best on best. There probably is maybe 20-25 skates that meet that criteria at the top end for their season. So, keep the pool small-ish, and have a great tournament!

5. Written, 3 TPE, Let me do it (150 words min.)
Anyone who was in drafting pool, but was not selected for All-Star game will take part in skill competition instead (and don’t really know what how that will end up looking like). But all of those players got close but ultimately were passed on by GMs making the picks. But what they got wrong? Who from skill competition should have been in All-star game and who would you replace to make room for them?

Sebastien Regazzoni - was one of those players who got close but ultimately were passed on by GMs making the picks, andwill take part in the lowly skill competition instead. This is a cruel joke that he was not selected, he was arguably HAM’s best player, and should have made the big game! He is a stud and his awareness on the ice is next level! I hope he takes part in all of the mini games at the asg, because he deserves them all! I honestly dont care who he replaces, any forward on the roster who did not have the season that he had! He did text me the other night and said that is grateful to make the skills comp, but admits he is BUMMED he didnt make the asg, and I honestly dont blame him! This guy is a BIG TIME player, and his hockey skills just JUMP off the page in the SHL!

“I thought I was a goalie, but STA told me forget being a goalie they make nothing, and no one cares about them.  Guess what I was a center all along and I had no idea. Now I am the toast of the town, and I am getting offers from all the GMs and Scouts.”

3. While Hai Nam Hoang and his buddy Knight were tagged for the Skills Competition, Emil Egli, their new friend from Edmonton, was picked to play in the All-Star game proper. It’s always a raucous affair when a Monarch gets recognized, as the team generally receives no personal accolades. The locker room explodes when the news is heard, hugs are handed out, and a party is certain to follow in the evening. For Hoang and his teammates, it’s all about supporting your fellow teammates, but it's also about caring for a friend, and making their experience the best it can be. It marks the first time Hoang will engage in All-Star game festivities, and it’s certain to be a driving force for his play moving forward. The question now remains how it will motivate Egli, who has been an All-Star before. Being a standout Monarch is not an easy job to hold.

b. Nash Topalo and Seamus O'Slapahan were only defencemen picked in top 10. Were they two best options this season? Should there have been more picked early on?

yeah i definitely think that they were the two best options to be picked this season and they definitely deserve to be picked honestly and i would say that there were not really any other dmen who should have been picked early on because of course forwards score the goals and the points thats just how it is you know? yeah i know you know and i know @hotdog and @micool132 and @Jepox know too

d. Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz and Sir Devoir were picked with back to back picks and thus both teams secured their started. Does either side have advantage on net? Back up goalies were picked lot later, do you think they can play role in the game at all?

well i would say that the team that picked the person with the absurdly long name the one that sounds polish and looks polish as well. well you know what i want to say about him? i think not only his name seems polish but i would say that his game is also very polished ha get it? and there fore i would say that the team that got mr grzegorz has the advantage here in the battle of the goalies heck yes!

e. Why should YOUR player have made the all star game, and why should you be the last man in? (If your player did make the all star game, tell us why they were picked.)

well we all know that binko the koivu is just a fantastic player one of the best ones and just ask any one really any one in the league and you know they will tell you that binko is truly one of the good ones in the league. and you know how they know that? well binko has been one of the premier two way forwards in the league for a long time to the point where he even won a dar last season! he is premier for sure and he deserves that spot!

9. This season was very good for me. I was one of the best hitting defensemen out there. I was so good, the team gave me many trophies for the effort I put into the season. They give me "The Seamus O'Slapahan Defensive Defender Award" for being the best defender on our team. Then, my teammates give me the "The John Brown Top Defender Award", which gives me so much pride knowing my teammates respect and fear me this season. I did very well in hurting my opponents this year. I was a bit disappointed that i did not score as much as I wanted to, but it still helps that the opponents had to sacrifice their ribs in order to stop my lasers from reaching the back of the net. Next year, I promise to inflict twice as much pain onto the opponents!"

e. Slip McScruff should be in the all star game as a joke.  Old heads would love it, new heads would laugh at it, and everyone in between might have to help him off the ice when he busts a hip.  Also, he could use a truck if they still give that out, he’s not making the same money that he used to.

Overall, I like this format.  I think cup finalists make sense as the drafters but it is a little strange to have a one season delay.  I guess thematically it would make sense for a real all star week happening within the season.  I don’t know if the logistics make sense, but it could be nice to spread the two 8 TPE tasks further with a mid-season all star week.

As an extra little twist, maybe take one representative GM from the cup finalist and another from the regular season conference leader.  In the case where they are different teams, you get another dimension of cooperation between people that usually don’t play together.  Except this time it’s not just a simulation, it’s real people cooperating.

I like the balance of having three players per team as a new default and then having the skill competition as an outlet.  It is a bummer to have a team not at all represented in the game itself, but I think that would make the draft overly complicated.  Each selection would have to be from a unique team until everyone is represented, which means that high skill players will artificially slide to the back half of the draft.

Which of the current players, who were still active during the season 76 has achieved enough that they should make it to the Hall of Fame? Are they already unquestionable first ballot Hall of Famer? Are they still close enough to their prime to make their case better or are they already so far in their career that realistically they are just working on their total career numbers at this point?

I am going to make the shameless plug for Slip McScruff to be a hall of famer.  He doesn’t have any individual awards and all his team awards are in the J and the IIHF, but he has the longest career in history and counting.  Slip McScruff has lost more TPE to regression than most skaters have earned in their entire career.

He holds the league record for shots blocked by almost 1000 blocks and is climbing up in hits (currently 4th place).  These stats are not just a factor of longevity, but also a very productive peak.  His 15 seasons with the Jets in isolation would be top 20 all time in both hits and blocks, including team records for both unless he’s finally been beaten.

Unfortunately, I don’t think this is actually going to be enough.  I don’t know how he only managed a single nom for defensive defensemen with what he put out there on the ice.  If there was a last player in vote for the hall of fame, maybe he made enough of an impression to make it in, but maybe too many of those who were around for the glory days have filtered out by now.
