I think implementing a harsher salary cap like the NHL has would be really interesting for the SHL. This would lead to more fun contract talks and more free agents hitting the market.
In my honest opinion, I think one thing the National Hockey League does that the Simulation Hockey League could do would be to play more games. With a 60ish game schedule, the sample size is smaller, making luck have more of an influence.
The SHL should implement the rule that the PWHL uses where if you score while your team is shorthanded on a minor penalty, your player gets out of the penalty box. It would be a fun way to encourage teams to go for it even on the PK and could be a major momentum shift at the right time.
Yeah - real leagues seed their teams 1-8 per conference. The way the NHL does it makes no sense. I couldn't tell you why the SHL does it (I truly don't know). It punishes the good teams (but not the best teams) - especially the ones in the tougher divisions. That makes me think it was implemented to grasp at some semblance of parity but it just results in the same old first and even second round matchups every season. It's terrible and I hate it.
It's not quite a difference between SHL and NHL but rather something that both should look into changing. In other sports (like European Football) there are 3 points for winning which gives you much more of a reason to fight for the win as there are more points up for grabs. Of course neither SHL or NHL needs to ditch their current points system completely, just change it up a bit. If I'm correct, IIHF already uses a 3-2-1-0 points system. So teams could get 3 for win, 2 for OT win, 1 for OT loss and 0 for regular time loss.

" Maybe someones er... they don't like me but... because i'm too good, i don't know why. "
The real leagues allow me to become a season ticket holder and show up to games - the people of the SHL want food, beer, arts, crafts, and jerseys I think our league needs to focus on building new arenas and work to further be the league that competes and takes over the NHL. I know that it is a big ask but I have full faith we can pull it off.
Hockey fan for life. I pack the heat and score the goals!
I think the SHL should learn about the second PP units. The numbers for my team is 4 minutes to 1 minute. That is insane, and not a good idea. Also, I'm on the second unit.
I think free agency is pretty quiet compared to the NHL. What I would like to see is something to a frenzy, not necessarily live, but something after a couple days, or at the end of it where a video shows all of the signings in free agency. This way for those who do not look through all the moves actually get to see what's happening in video shortened form.
In the NHL there are two power play units versus one in the SHL. If there was a way to implement that here, I think we would see stats spread out a little more.
we need more canadian teams that choke i think that iwll help the shl since wwe dont have enough canadian teams who lose alot here since that is something that we as a society are missing out on
Imagine the reaction of fans in real life NHL if they had something roughly equivalent to re-sims. Like maybe they make two teams play each other again because they find out some of the players on one team had faulty equipment or someone didn't fill their water bottles up all the way or something lol.
Call ups during the regular season or post season should be a thing! Turn on injuries and suspensions and test the depth of the organizations. It would put more of a focus on teams drafting rather than trading all their picks for players at the trade deadline.

We currentlt use a divisional format that gives us additional games to play against a handful of teams. Id rather see every team play every other team exactly the same number of times in the season for more fairness in competition.
One thing that I could see being fun, is to have the play-offs cross over between the 2 conferences a bit more. As right now the same teams often play the same teams.
I think the SHL could get rid of divisions. NHL has it for travel reasons, we don't have that issue. No reason to play one team 8x and another only twice.
