1. Fan Appreciation Day

The Colorado Raptors franchise are never one to short the fans for exclusive stadium giveaways throughout the season. The Raptors build a community based on inclusivity and team swag. Heading into the Season 88 season the Raptors media team have begun putting together the stadium giveaways for five exclusive home games throughout the season. The first giveaway will be the home opener were they will be giving away a two pack Funko pop of Zeus Storm and Kral King titled "Dynamic Dinos" in honor of their rookie league leading points scored in season 77. This will be the most exclusive giveaway as it will be limited to the first 2,000 fans and 10 random ones will receive an extra redemption ticket for a special two pack that will be signed by Storm and King with a certificate of authenticity. The second giveaway the team is planning is a pickle and cheese night to play off the name of fan favorite Raw Cheese McPickle. This will not be raw food but a plastic figure of a cheese wrapped pickle with his jersey number on the back. This will be limited to the first 5,000 fans in attendance. Third the team is planning an official game puck giveaway with the Raptors logo. Much like the funko pop there will be randomly inserted signed pucks by a member of the Raptors both current and past. The first 10,000 fans will receive a puck and there will be 500 randomly inserted signed ones. This is sure to be a major hit for the fan base young and old. The fourth giveaway for the season will be trading card night where the Raptors will team up with Fanatics to product team trading card sets. These will be available to every fan that enters the arena on this night. Finally the last giveaway of the season will be a Fan Appreciation Night where everyone in attendance will receive an exclusive Raptor mascot bobblehead. On top of that the team will be raffling away to random tickets, which will be done all mobile through the Raptors official app, and fans will be randomly select to win game used items from the Raptors players. They have a chance to pick up a Campbell Fishchermann used hockey stick or a Timmo Leppanen used goalie glove. Really the possibilites are endless and there will be over 500 game used and player signed items given out plus 10 lucky fans will win season tickets for life. This is an exciting time to be a Raptors fan and there will be plenty of opportunities to come watch some great hockey and walk away with amazing swag that you can only get at the game.

2. Looking Towards the Future

The Colorado Raptors are in for quite an adjustment headed into Season 88 as they lost a majority of their top offensive talent due to call ups. They still have a decent foundation in Baron Samedi, Zeus Storm, Campbell Fischermann, Raw Cheese McPickle, Nathangus McExplosion and Kral King. These guys should keep them competitive in terms of being able to score the puck but is it enough to truly compete? The Raptors are a little light at goalie with Timo Leppanen once again expected to be the starter. He has been serviceable but not truly a reliable source of shutdown net minding. That is especially concerning as the Raptors defenseman in O'Fink, Ixazaluoh, and D'Lee are currently the only ones on the roster. Fatigue will surely be a factor and that will force the offensive minded forwards to not be able to play fluid having to worry more about the defense then they typically would. Not only looking at the players on the ice but taking look at the coaching staff the Raptors went through a general manager change over the off season. Takk, who was assistant general manager last season, has moved up into the general manager role. With that move they conducted an assistant manager search and landed on home grown talent when they decided to hire Fishy. We do not know how this will change the on ice philosophy or game plans for the Raptors but it will certainly be a factor to keep an eye on. Overall this team has some talent to put on the ice but the depth is the big concern. They look to be a middle of the road team and one that will compete for one of the last playoff spots next season. But if they do get into the playoffs, like we saw last season, anything can happen when you have a core of solid offensive play makers like the Raptors do.

2. Looking towards the future, 103 words, +2 TPE

Headed into next season, the Quebec City Citadelles only have six forwards, two defensemen, and no goalies under contract. This means that they'll need to find some way to bring in three forwards, two defensemen, and at least one goalie, a tough task for the Citadelles' management this offseason. Defense will definitely be the biggest thing on their radar as the second pairing will be more important to fill than the third forward line, and goaltending doesn't matter. QCC will definitely be hoping for a deep draft, hopefully bringing in at least one goalie, a few forwards, and as many defenders as possible.

6. Team History, 127 words, +2 TPE

Having been in Quebec City pretty much since the beginning, I know the team's history pretty well. Here's little bit of trivia about the team that most people won't know. The first two QCC non-GMs to join the war room were myself and Hordle, back in season 56. Being the team's two goalies, and the team's GM, Evok, also having a goalie in the SHL, we far outnumbered non-goalies in there, the only one being the team's co-GM, Faelax. Eventually the non-goalies caught up, but the goalie culture always stayed strong, with people like Ramen, Caleb, and Puppy becoming big parts of the war room, and Hordle and I becoming the old men yelling at clouds about something called Drog and a team so-called the Anaheim Outlaws.

Part 1: Pre-draft
Cristoforo Roccamontepiano is very excited to go into the draft tomorrow, he's enjoyed the scouting process and talking with some of the GMs around the league. When asked what teams should know about him, he had this to say: "I'm really looking forward to the start of my SHL career with my new team, going into the locker room and meeting everybody, that's what I'm most excited about. I don't have any strong preferences for which team drafts me, I just hope it's a team I talk with beforehand to learn a little bit about them. On the ice, what teams can expect from me is a lot of offense, and a lot of goal scoring. I hate goalies so I'm going to fill the net as much as possible, I'd rather a game end in a 7-6 match than a 1-0 goalie battle. Defense isn't really my thing, imagine spending time trying to stop goals from happening, could never ever be me."

Part 2: Post-draft
We are now one day after the S78 SHL draft, and obviously it couldn't have gone better for Cristoforo. He was drafted first overall by the Edmonton Blizzard, and was one of seven players to be drafted by the franchise. When asked how he felt, Roccamontepiano had the following to say: "Never in my dreams did I think this would happen, even in the days leading up to the draft. When I heard that Edmonton had traded for the first overall pick that's when it started to feel real, since I had some really great talks with them. I'm so excited to be a part of such a storied franchise, and to be a part of their plans through the rebuild. I briefly met everyone after the draft and I can already tell that it's going to be a great place to call home, everyone was so welcoming, and I even get to join the team with a familiar face from the Citadelles, Andrea Morandi. Before we know it we'll be lifting Challenge Cup after Challenge Cup, that'll have to wait though as I still have lots to prove in the SMJHL."

16. Goals, 154 words, +3 TPE

Having missed out on the goals he set for his rookie season, Cristoforo Roccamontepiano is a little weary about setting new ones, he just wants to score as much as possible when he's on the ice. Going into next season, getting up to a point per game pace would be nice, maybe with at least a goal every two games. These may be hard to reach as a sophomore player, but hitting these milestones early would just push Cristoforo into doing more and more every season as he grows. He has no goals for anything like blocking shots, takeaways versus giveaways, or hits, although he would like to be in at least one fight before his juniors career comes to a close, and winning that fight would be icing on the cake. At the end of the day though, the biggest and most important goal that Cristoforo has is to win the Four-Star Cup.

While most people would say it’s torture, Solaire of Astora thinks a great funtime activity is getting the gang together and playing in a lan party like area, but instead of playing multiplayer games, everyone there is playing the Dark Souls series, since well Solaire doesn’t really know how it is going to end. So massive Dark Souls lan party.

9. Obviously, this is a bit biased, but I am quite a fan of Solaire, and obviously Solaire of Astora, since that is where he is from. Solaire of Astora is obviously from a game series, Dark Souls, and it has a lot of meaning to me, since it is obviously the game that really brought me into the FromSoftware games. Solaire has a always been a favorite character of mine, as well as he is quite the fan favorite from many folks who played the original game. So, as I play him, I hope that I can find his “Sun” here in the SHL and show the league a good time with such an amazing character and such a great backstory. I even used all his quotes for my original chirps until I ran out of his dialogue so now I got to find something else to help push through chirps, to make Solaire a household name!

12. Solaire of Astora’s pre-draft scouting report would read probably something along these lines.

Great defensive first mind, he loves to block shots and take the hits that come to him. He’s quick with his stick, and quick on his feet for being such a monster of a man. He’s quite agile, and has the stamina to stay on the ice for a long time. He really reads the ice when playing on defense, and looks to get others involved.
Horrible offensive mindset. Does not really know how to do much on that end of the ice. Passing and shot range is acceptable, at best. He really needs to learn how to get his feet set, his positioning down, and his ability to screen is lackluster at best. He has a decent handle on the puck, but that won’t go far in the majors unless he gets it under control and becomes a better offensive weapon.

14. Solaire of Astora is actually going to be traveling during his off-season. There’s a few other members from Dark Souls that ended up here, in the real word, most notably Blacksmith Andre (Cornerback of the San Jose Sabercats, ISFL), and Siegmeyer of Catarina (Relief Pitcher of the Nashville Stars, PBE). He plans to meet up with Siegmeyer of Catarina and travel to see Blacksmith Andre play in San Jose, so they can also figure out a way they can try to get back into their video game. It is a long, winding road, and if they can pull the money they make from the perspective leagues (we’re hoping here in the hundreds of millions over time), they can maybe find a way to get home and back into their world, where they actually understand what is going on and can be themselves again without having to worry about this outer world, and things like cars.

16. I have a few goals I’d like to accomplish with Solaire and I guess being back on the SHL. First and foremost, I want Solaire of Astora to set the shots blocked record, and hits record (I know this is probably not going to happen, since most hits go to wings / centers), but those are my lofty expectations. I would also like to see Solaire of Astora hit the Hall of Fame, so I could say that I have 2 of my now 3 players in the SHL in the Hall of Fame, which would feel nice. Personal goals, I think I would like to really get back into the swing of things and have a nice time wherever I go, and make sure that I can enjoy my time here again, maybe end up getting a job or two, and just have a good time around. I burnt out of Vladmir Petrov because I was just not enjoying my time in general, so I am hoping to turn it around with Solaire, because while I don’t really watch or like hockey all too much, I do enjoy the atmosphere here and the people here are pretty awesome as well, if I do say so.

18. Milestone Rewards +3 TPE

2. In Newfoundland we had a bit of a middling year. Expected to finish in the middle of the pack, and that is exactly where we landed. Our team had lost a lot of talent the year before Leo had been drafted. The veterans that were still left are talented players, but the huge loss of so much talent put a damper on the season. Our team for next year looks to be improved. Our defense will be amongst the top 3 in the league, with four strong defensive options in Leo Finnegan, Turtle Bob, Joe Degen and Weston Windsor. All four should be near the cap for the playoffs. Our forward group lost some talent, but still has some strong players on the roster. Led by high scoring Jason Warwaha, the teams younger players will look to step up into the top-6 and make a big impact. Jett Labyrinth and Hannah Crowder, two promising rookies on the Newfoundland roster will make huge strides during the offseason and will no doubt have a bigger impact next season. The biggest need for the team is Goaltending. With a rock solid defense, a goaltender could have a very easy time playing for the Newfoundland hopeful. Ideally a forward and goaltender will be acquired at the draft. (213 Words) +4 TPE

9. The ability to name your player anything you want (to an extent) is what makes the SHL great. The amount of diversity in player names is outstanding. Some are so bad that they may actually be good. You'll see a lot of really strong hockey names and some really good 'meme' names. It's really up to the user to decide their player name because anything goes, its a great way for someone to show a bit of their personality. I usually make Irish players, so I tend to go for a strong sounding Irish name. If I made a player from a different country I'd probably do something similar. That being said, I really do like a lot of the 'meme' names. In the SMJHL you have great uncommon names such as WonderBread, Hockey Player, and McLovin. The best name in the SMJHL this season I probably would give to either Bean Beanman Jr. or Spaceman Spliff. Bean Beanman Jr basically speaks for itself. It rolls off the tongue, sounds like a future superstar. I'm sure Regina sells a lot of Beanman Jr jerseys at their home games. Spaceman Spliff is just starting his SMJHL career but already in contention for a top name. There is always a new induction of rookies so Spaceman will have to see at the end of the season 78 if he can remain in the hunt for best name of the SMJHL. I would say that my all time favourite player name that I have seen over the years has to be Lord Pretty Flacko. Great name, Great player. (265 Words) +5 TPE

3. At the end of each season the entire team will sit down and discuss the future. For some players that are moving on this is one of their last goodbyes as they move on to their respective homes in the pro league. For rookies like myself, its the start of a new offseason after a great first year of junior hockey. We can't give away all of our secrets, a lot of our training tactics and strategies have been passed down through many seasons of Berserker Hockey. One of the coaches must've been watching a Rocky rerun late at night, because now our whole team is up running to the top of the stairs in the highest point in Newfoundland. We are not up running at any sensible time for any other normal human beings. No, coach wants us to beat the sun so we are up at 4:30 every morning. We all show up though, the whole team. We are extremely close knit and dedicated to becoming a stronger team. We show up for ourselves and for each other. I already told coach the running is fine but there's no way i am drinking 6 raw eggs. One of the other training tactics we are following for the upcoming season is yoga. We have a yoga teacher come to the rink and we do a team yoga session. The flexibility helps with recovery and it strengthens the core extremely well. A lot of older athletes use it to maintain their fitness, so we thought we'd give it a try to see if it'll give us an edge next season. (271 Words) +5 TPE

Prompt 1 - Fan appreciation day!

The Scarecrows are a little too extra for something as simple, practical, and affordable as a rally towel, or a foam finger - the bobble heads might well take off, there's a fair few people who support individual players - Ozzy and myself, Popol and Alexa, and of course, the venerated dman, Jack Booth. But, having seen the cool plastic-injection work done on popcorn buckets recently, I think the team might well decide to make commemorative buckets - maybe have the Scarecrows logo embossed on them, and make them extra big, so that our fans can keep them filled right the way through to the OT finishes that our team so often gets!

Prompt 3 - Secret Plans

The scarecrows are a frugal and simple lot - we don't want to be doing anything too convoluted, since it may involve many points of failure, and we want consistency. So naturally, we plan on building a space station and hosting all of our games in zero-gravity; something for which our team will have trained, and our opponents will be woefully under-equipped to handle. This is not banned anywhere in the rulebook, believe me, I checked. This will massively increase our team's effectiveness, though it may come with the risk of some of our opponents floating off into the vacuum of space. The head office of the scarecrows has decided that this is a risk we are willing to accept.

Prompt 10 - In the Zone

I now have the chance to talk about my draft brother - the venerable rookie, Ozzy Bradford. Not to say that he underperformed during the regular season, but when playoffs hit, he suddenly became the sim's favourite person. Knocking out goal after goal, assist after assist, Ozzy was tearing through the Nevada Battleborn with a vengeance - we had only 5 games in the playoffs, and he racked up 6 points in that series - while sharing the ice with one of the most formidable defence men in the entire league, Cade de Vries. His shot percentage in the regular season was around 6% - double my own - but when the playoffs hit, he suddenly crashed through the door with an ELEVEN PERCENT GOAL CHANCE - that's absolutely unheard of from a dman, especially in such a cutthroat series.

If I'm going to talk about Ozzy, I also desperately need to discuss Jack Booth - being an absolute wall of a man with 219 shot blocks in the regular season, everyone expected him to keep going - and he certainly did not disappoint, locking down 31 shots in just a few games, but what wasn't expected from our defensive defender was just how aggressive he would get to be on power plays, specifically, nailing three assists with only 2:45 average time on ice during a power play. That's a very significant increase over his regular season, with 7 power play assists over the entire time. Getting assists like that isn't even his job - he's a shot-block machine and a bone-crunching hitter, but once the playoffs started, he was suddenly nailing assists and winning face-offs, without any sort of drop in his defensive qualities.

And lastly, though I know I spoke about him already in my Deep Dive, "Battle of the Goalies," I'd also like to bring up one of the greatest treasures on our team, Evil Kyle Murray. Especially with two rookie dmen joining his team, Kyle really had his work cut out for him, and the final stats allocated to him really don't do him justice - MET had some of the strongest forward lines in SMJHL history, and Murray really took it all on the chin. But. We will never forget how he stood on his head, blocking an absolute storm of shots from Nevada and MET, too, before it all went down. If you've ever played Halo Reach, it really did have that same feeling, watching this absolute unit of a player slowly be worn down by attrition - dare I say it, he may well be too good for the team that has him. And his performance in the playoffs exemplified that to a T. In that first upset series, he really did just pick up the whole team onto his back, and said "nope. We're winning this, just watch."

14. R&R
It's almost officially the offseason. Whether you just won the cup or didn't even make it past the first round of the playoffs, it's time to take a break and look toward the SHL draft. Tell us how you're spending your time this offseason, whether it be with family or friends.

The toughest part of being in St Louis is that I was so far away from my family. Yea, the team is great and I met some really great people. But this was the first time I have ever been away from home for more than a few days. So I am really looking to seeing my family and spending time with them. It is going to be the simple things I want to do, sit and watch Match of the Day with my Dad…waking up to the smells of Ma cooking breakfast and the gentle feel of the breeze on my face as I sit out in the garden. I am also looking forward to heading down to Twerton for a day or too. Twerton Park is the home ground for my favorite football team, the Bath City Romans. I know most people have not heard of them, I mean, I know they are not Arsenal, but they are the best team in the world to me. I am lucky enough to be able to follow them via the internet, they even have an internet radio station! So I want to head down to Twerton and help out in the Community Day. We try to do as much as we can to help out and get the grounds ready for the upcoming season. Hopefully I will be able to catch a friendly match or 2 before I head back to the Scarecrows. I know that I will need to be heading to the rink to make sure that my skills don’t drop off any…but this is a time to relax and reset as I get ready for next season.

15. Charity Drive
Professional hockey players are among the luckiest members of a community, but not everyone is given the same opportunities. As such, many players are expected to give back to the community by volunteering their time and energy off the ice with various charitable organizations. Write about a charity or event that your player helped out with.

The charity I support, and I have since I was very young, is The Til Valhalla Project. I know it is not one of the most well-known charities, but it is one that is very important to my family. My family has a history of serving in the military. I have uncles and aunts, grandparents, great grandparents and numerous others who have served their country. I have some distant relatives that moved to America and some to Australia, but the tradition followed them there as they volunteered to serve their new home countries as well. Til Valhalla is a charity that gives back to the veteran community. There are many troubling statistics that relate to veterans, but one of the saddest is that an average of 22 veterans a day lose their struggle with their demons within and commit suicide. Til Valhalla recognizes the battles these veterans, and first responders, have continued to fit even when they are no longer wearing the uniforms. So when I am given a choice, I wear the number 22 to remind people of this. I also spent at least 2 days of every week that I was at home volunteering at local veteran organizations. I want to make sure they never forget that they have not been forgotten…

Although your career may still be in its early stages, it's still a great time to think about the future. What are some goals you have for your career, or some personal goals for the site? Are you striving for a HOF induction? Getting a site job?
Ozzy had a great rookie season. No one, at least I didn’t, expected the season that I had. I know that can be a curse because it sets an expectation that people will expect. There will be the belief that if I could have the success I did as a rookie, then it should happen every season thereafter…as well as noticeable improvements as well. The reality is that with every season, as I improve, so will the competition. So what is next season going to be like? I have no idea. But my goal is pretty simple, to be the best teammate that I can be. Does that mean I will be the “best” player/teammate on the team? No, I honestly hope there are players who are much better than me. But I am going to be the best that I can…because that is what I know how to do. I hope that helps us to win championships, to be a part of a legendary franchise. If I win any personal accolades along the way, that is fine. But for me a successful career is one where my team is a success. As far as other goals/ambitions…I never say no to something that I haven’t seen yet. No one knows what the future holds and my plan is to take advantage of the opportunities that I have…and just go from there…

"We here at the Yukon Malamutes want to stress the importance of our fans, if it was not for their attendance, passion and mon- I mean, involvement. We would not be here right now and for a lot of sports fans, they would not be here right now without their own little fans. Their pets. Their good boys. For Fan Appreciation Day, the Yukon Malamutes would give out dog related items like collars, rags, little Yukon hats and plenty more. Even hosting a charity for people to donate to local Yukon animal shelters for support. Yes, this also means this is a bring your pup to the arena type of day. Please bring your doggy bags too. "So allow me to begin with this, you all messed up giving me control of this. You're giving the adrenaline junkie of the group the ideas of FUN? Now granted, I am very limited in my options because under Yukon rule we can't be having too much reckless fun in the offseason in case of injuries. Gotta stay healthy for the cup, perfectly fair. Though I will say this, Malamutes laser tag is gonna set a fire under our ass for the regular season. The team chemistry, especially if we do more than just Red vs Blue? Oh the possibilities are endless. Just throw the boys and I at a go-karting track and we'd be like kids in a candy store. We keep the blood pumping, we get amped up, we have a fun and amazing time and that is gonna build the team closer than ever. Team chemistry up, stress of the last season down. 8. An Alternate Timeline
"You know it's actually a bitter pill to swallow because of the most recent playoffs but I would say if there's an alternative to what team I get drafted to.. it would be Vancouver. Reason I say that is simple, they won the cup. It sadly came at the expense of the Malamutes in the first round but that thought of them winning it, it's supposed to dampen the blow right? The eventual winner just happened to be our first opponent? That could have been Yukon, you never know. Overall for me, I say Vancouver because they won in the finals. I want to win in the finals. If this is an alternate timeline, I would have won two championships in my career. I would have won in Game 7 twice.. back to back.. to end my career in the Victory Hockey League. I'm not in that timeline right now. Though I will get there one day, I know it. For this alternate world. Vancouver." [Word Count: 165]

12. On the Radar
[SHL Scout]: "Let's see here, Isamu Knievel. Born and raised in Fukuoka, Japan where hockey isn't essentially a top sport within the country. Even in Japan, colder climates like Hokkaido would have a higher chance of developing a hockey player, rather than Fukuoka which is on the other side of the entire country. Despite the surprising origin of this player, everything about him screams unique and valuable. He shows the perfect balance of maintaining a possible long career, with the risk of shortening it every time on the ice. Isamu here seems, human. Probably the most human-like player I've seen, a mix of risk and reward, good and bad, pros and cons. On one hand you have a player who is undisciplined, known for being in the penalty box almost once a game or multiple in a game. On the other hand, you have a player that when he's on the ice you're not going to see the puck enter the net. On one hand, he can be considered a regular middle line defenseman. On the other, you have a defenseman with an important role in the locker room and on the ice. On one hand, you got a player crossing from one league to another with a completely different level of play. On the other, you have a player with previous experience. A player that got into hockey just for the fun of it, one that doesn't mind not getting a point per game but matters about his team winning games. His pros aren't even terrible too, he clocks in at incredible speed on the ice which shows great footwork with the ice skates. One willing to take physical risks and propel himself for shot blocks and big hits, a player that is willing to take one for the team. Whether first or final round, this kid has value and potential. Plus, he shares a common goal among most teams... winning the cup." [Word Count: 324]

It's almost officially the offseason. Whether you just won the cup or didn't even make it past the first round of the playoffs, it's time to take a break and look toward the SHL draft. Tell us how you're spending your time this offseason, whether it be with family or friends.
Blast is spending the offseason WJC GMing and enjoying the weekends in the summer. Spent a weekend a couple weeks back with a buddy for his party and this last weekend was a music festival. This weekend we look forward to some piece and downtime around the house before getting back at it.

16. Goals
Although your career may still be in its early stages, it's still a great time to think about the future. What are some goals you have for your career, or some personal goals for the site? Are you striving for a HOF induction? Getting a site job?
Career goes for Kral King are to make the player live up to the name, Personal hardware is a requirement along the way and will be expected. Alongside this we are expecting team championships in most stops along the road. Site jobs are probably out of the picture for me in the near future gonna live on contract money.

I would join Quebec City to help them repeat. They've had tons of stars throughout the seasons and Hannah can learn from them! Hannah was a midseason waiver claim, so Hannah Crowder might be a less impact into the Citadelles. I think Hannah would improve Quebec City's cup chances by a bit, because she is still a rookie.

Hannah is spending some time with family, and other times, you'll find her in the gym working out for the next SMJHL or SHL season. Her family has set up an SHL Draft watch party on the day of the draft and the most memorable moment of that party was when Hannah got selected to Buffalo! Hannah is going to continue working hard and pushing until she makes a spot on the Stampede lineup.

1. Fan Appreciation Day

Your team is giving back to their supporters by holding a fan appreciation day for one of their games, where the team will hand out a special commemorative item to show thanks for their continued support of the franchise. You have been tasked to design the product to be given out to the attendees (can be a rally towel, foam finger, bobble head, etc.) Write a blurb about the item, including details on during which game was / will be given out.

The Vancouver Whalers hosted a fan appreciation day and to give back to the fans, the first 1,000 fans that make it to the stadium in their rivalry series against the Kelowna Knights gets their very own washing machine bobble heads with miniatures of the team inside the washing machine spinning around! Why a washing machine you may ask? Well the team set out a contest among the players to decide on this special commemorative item and while there were great ideas like bobble heads of our captaincy team and whale plushies, the ultimate winner was @HillsHaveHats who loves washing machines and presented the idea of a washing machine bobble head with a bit of a Whalers flair to it. The fans loved the idea and and the lines stretched far outside of the Pacific Coliseum for the chance to get this limited edition bobblehead. But of course, we could not let the rest of the fans go empty handed so to appreciate the rest of the fan base the team offered 40% the team store for the day!

2. Looking Towards the Future

As we near the end of S77, the SMJHL draft will be happening soon. Going into next season, what are your team's biggest needs and areas of strength? Do any holes need to be filled with call-ups? Do you have a position that is incredibly stacked? Give us all an overview of your team, from top to bottom.

The Vancouver Whalers are losing the likes of Niclas Wastlund, Groaty Bronson, and Masked Stanger. The loss of Groaty Bronson on defense is resolved by our goaltender Galton Woggins strapping on the player skates and becoming a defenseman for the rest of his career. This in addition to the Whalers' recent addition in Bojan Miovski, the defensive lines look solid with David Vent, Trevor Lopez, Oliver Cornwall, Bojan Miovski, Galton Woggins, and likely the return of Andy Lammers. Offensively, the hole of Niclas Wastlund was also filled with a recent trade in obtaining Chuff D'Lee from the Colorado Raptors making the three lines ultimately the same with the rest of the team being returning faces. This now leaves the biggest question mark in net where the Vancouver Whalers have a rookie in Cristobal Khabibulin. They had a rookie last season to help lead the team to a cup, but this time without the leadership and confidence in our backup, it will be interesting to see how this will play out.

4. Funtimes

You have been designated as the team's official Fun Director! Now, everyone is looking for some sort of fun activity where you all can spend an afternoon or day to chill, hang out and build some team spirit. Especially after a long and stressful season, what are your plans to ensure everyone has a great time?

Ville Sato-Maki having grown up in Vancouver for a part of his life was more than ecstatic in becoming the team's official Fun Director for this offseason. Knowing Vancouver is known as a very outdoorsy city, Sato-Maki had the idea of a from the oceans to the mountains kind of adventure. So to start off the day, the team will work together in some kayaking. Making teams of 2 between veterans and rookies, the pairs will go out into Jericho Beach and kayak in a preorganized relay race. Some friendly competition always helps bring people together. Next, the team will get out of the water and find themselves with a beachside barbeque and some beach volleyball. The coaches and staff are cooking up a good lunch as the team works on their teamwork and in some beach volleyball, but of course with the staff cooking, the players are expected to clean up. Once that is all cleaned up, the team hops on some bikes and are told to go on a crazy bike ride along the seawall and eventually make it to the seabus. Once that is done, the will catch themselves heading to Grouse Mountain where they will do the Grouse Grind for fitness, but also go ziplining on top! At this point it's about dinner so the team has the decision to eat on the mountain or head back down to the Quay. Then finally, the team will set off to a prebooked campsite where they will spend the weekend. A busy and packed day to see all that Vancouver can offer and hopefully the team isn't too tired by the end of this!

PLAYOFF PROMPTS

7. Winner Winner Chicken

At the end of the day, what we all really strive for is the Four Star Cup. It takes everyone's best efforts, an unrelenting determination to win and hard work to be able to hoist the glorious trophy. Out of the 16 teams in playoffs, only one can win the 4 Star Cup. Who won and why? Were they the best team on these playoffs?

These playoffs were of course won by your very own Vancouver Whalers. Backstopped by the rookie sensation Galton Woggins, the team had firepower on all three lines and the defensive capabilities from all three defensive lines. The coaching staff on the team have also been working very hard as with about 15 games left to go, they took some chances in changing some tactics and although the end of the season was nothing to write home about, the additional changes in the first round of the playoffs against the Yukon Malamutes found the team winning that series 4-1. From then, the team just clicked sweeping both the Quebec City Citadelles and the Regina Elk before winning the cup in 6 games against the Ottawa Highlanders. Ultimately a bit of luck, a bit of skill and just getting hot right at the right time led to what I believed was the best team winning.

10. In the Zone

Some players are excellent in the regular season, however there are a certain few that really elevate their play in the playoffs. The pressure and the thought of winning it all really benefits some, while others just have that natural clutch factor, with a knack of showing up at the right times. Write about players who have been crucial to their team, or players that could be in contention for Playoffs MVP.

I would say that the playoff MVP has to go to NoNo Jo. NoNo Jo not only led the Vancouver Whalers in points, but Jo also led the league in the playoffs and was on the first line center position, up against the other team's top players and winning crucial faceoffs when it mattered. What is more impressive is that in 19 games, NoNo Jo had 18 goals making her almost a point per game in the playoffs. Her 3 game winning goals also was tied for first in the playoffs for the team with 3. But in addition to her offensive capabilities, NoNo Jo had the most blocks for a forward and did not shy away from the penalty kill as well. Overall, I don't think there is any question who should be the playoff MVP this season. No one come close to her playoff performance this season and it clearly shows in the stats.

2. Looking Towards the Future - (104 Words, 2 TPE)
Needless to say, with 16 graduates over the course of two mere seasons, the core of the cup-winning QCC is long-gone. Our challenge now comes in as we try to fill in the gaps left by these giants' steps. Our compositions may be in need of reconsiderations, our personal specializations, player dynamics and methods may also be prone to change, all the while ever greater expectations and challenges loom in the horizon. Former draftees such as myself will need to go the extra mile to build up a new core for the team, and give our best out there in the field.

9. What's in a Name? - (109 Words, 2 TPE, 4 Cumulative)
As a native spanish speaker, there's some hilarity to be found in names such as Christophoro Roccamontepiano (while non-spanish, the romance roots allows for one to understand it, which, in the simplest of terms, could be roughly translated to: "Christopher Rock-Mount-Piano). Others shine through the outright unapologetic nature of their non-chalant, whimsical humour such as "Hockey Player" (Duh), or "No This is Patrick" (Oh god..."). I must also admit cracking a good laughter the first time I've heard of McLovin, and couldn't possibly avert my mind from thinking about a commentarist, annoucing full of enthusiasm, "And here comes McLovin ladies and gentlemen!".

12. On the Radar - (207 words, 4 TPE, 8 Cumulative)
As a whole, Andrea could be defined him as yet another jewel to-be-polished. While he has yet to untap the largest portion of his potential, true potential may lie inside of him. For anyone who where interested in drafting Andrea, they should likely be very aware of his compromise to the smooth transition of the team's puck possession. Whether it may encompass a clutch hit followed by a counteroffensive, or a deep pass into a key companion with an opening, Andrea always endeavours to be a part of the plays, through perseverance and agile, tactical gameplay become a steady source of pressure, always eager to tip the scales of the match in one's team's favour! Moreover, at the locker room as well as off-game, Andrea proves to be remarkably laid-back and gregarious, even if not precisely the most outgoing, and ever so slightly more passionate than usual, he proves to be a reliable teammate, with an earnest approach to life and team's coexistence, just as he finds himself building his way into becoming an avid playmaker and abler for their teammates, his role in the social dynamics could pretty much described in a similar way. Unproblematic, and cohesion-oriented.

The transition period was a major breakpoint in Andrea's career, much effort has gone to that cause and will certainly continue to be the case. While the responsibility of partaking in trainings, keeping up with tasks and one own's physical fitness will never truly go away, it is true that without the constant pressure of scheduled games, Andrea may now finally spend some time getting to further look into the nooks and crannies of the cold cement jungle known as Canada. Now we look at him spending some quality time with peps, either teammates or acquaintances made along his stay, getting to spend some time trying out activities such as Skying, something which he had been certainly eager for a while but never truly managed to find the time to commit. At some point, it felt natural to make his way back to Italy for about a week, enjoy a placid climate for a change, prattle and share time with family member or merely familiar faces, old friends, great food. Something he had yearned for, not one doubt about it, but also not quite ready to return to indefinitely either. All in all, a vacation for the spirit, even if the body still ought to keep up with the pace. And by the looks of it, and the challenges ahead, keeping up would be the bare minimum he could be asked for, even by his own standards... Who knows, perhaps something in this journey will reignite something in him, perhaps he'll return with rekindled spirits and ready for giving it all the next season.

In their first season, they finishes third from the bottom in the league. While they were still respectable, winning over a third of their games, the real bar of measurement was how they compared to San Diego. And they finishes below San Diego overall so it looked like they had lost the expansion race. They were also bounced from the playoffs by Carolina in six games. The second season tells a much different story though. The finished well above San Diego, winning over half their games and managed to finish fourth in a very competitive Southern Conference. But the real accomplishment was in the playoffs. They ousted Colorado and Carolina in short order before eliminating regular season leaders Maine in the conference finals. Unfortunately the storybook ending was not a happy one for them as Vancouver managed to win the Cup in six games. Still, while Ottawa's history is brief, it's an impressive one. What's the blueprint? We are still figuring that out but the GMs appear to look for one thing above everything else and that is cohesion. If they players are buying in, that's half the battle right there. Whether this success continues in their third season remains to be seen but after another successful draft, it's hard to see them slowing down too much. I think teams could do worse than to adopt Ottawa's blueprint.

It's hard to say that Vancouver were the best team. The finished second in the Northern Conference and sixth overall. They seemed to sail through the playoffs going 12-1 on their road to the finals. They handled Ottawa with a little difficulty as the Highlanders managed to stretch it to six games and avoid a total shutout. So just based on their regular season, I don't think they were the best team. But that makes it more impressive honestly. I don't think anyone was sleeping on them, and as a Highlander myself I was not looking forward to the series. While their conference lagged behind the Southern conference for the most part, it doesn't make their accomplishments any less impressive. They did the task that was put in front of them and handled their business. It was a well deserved win. I'm not taking anything away from the Whalers at all, I think it's pretty boring then the "best" regular season team sleepwalks to a final. Vancouver certainly weren't that. They turned it on when it mattered and no one had an answer. There's definitely more to this than stats, that's why we play the games after all. They had a dominant playoff run.

I took a bit of a break the last week or two. I barely paid attention to the draft last week which ended up being a bit of a surprise anyway. I just got back from vacation yesterday so I guess it's time to prepare for another season. I definitely feel like I've done all I can for Ottawa and just have to let the chips fall where they may now. It's nice to be disconnected for a little bit so it doesn't feel like one things is taking up too much of your time. Hanging out with the family is a good way to decompress.

My goals for this player are minimal. I never had a desire or interest to go in the Hall of Fame. With previous players, I would get discouraged quick if I fell behind in the TPE race, missing a PT or two. So I'd just pack it in and struggle to remain active. This time around I just don't really care. My best player only ever make it to 1700 TPE and he did just fine so I am not losing sleep over how much or little Worley accomplishes. I'll still do my best of course, and I won't be lazy. But I'm not getting caught up in anything else. The only thing I would like to do is be a part of a few more finals, hopefully win a few. I managed to be a part of the Four Star Cup Finals in my rookie season so at least that's off to a good start.

3. Secret Plans - 454 words - 9 tpe

Randolph steps out of the locker room as the match ends. A loss for the Citadelles.
“Not good enough,” he mutters to himself, his coat trailing behind him. “Not good enough at all.”
A black car, resembling a London Hackney Cab, rounds the corner, and stops, just as The Gentleman reaches the edge of the pavement, and he steps in, squatting into the back.
“Where to Guv?” asks The Driver in a thick Cockney accent, an unusual thing to hear in Quebec, but not as unusual as the cab itself, seemingly plucked straight out of London.
“Home, for now.” answers Randolph, as he leans back into the seat and closes his eyes.
“Not good enough.” He repeats in his head “I have to improve. First home, to watch myself on replay, then research.”

Randolph opens his eyes and finds himself outside his house. As he approaches the door, it is opened by a man dressed in a sharp black suit, who says in a received English accent “Good evening sir.” as he bows his head. Randolph nods to The Butler, as he enters his study, and begins watching replays of his games, scrawling notes as he pays attention to his gameplay and where he went wrong. He shifts in his chair, stretching his arms and legs, and returns to studying.

Two hours later, The Butler arrives at the study. “Tea, sir?” he asks, his head once again bowed,
“Of course,” replies The Gentleman, his eyes staying fixed on his studies. “I need the energy to improve myself.” he flexes his fingers, as though curling them around a stick. “I cannot allow this to be how we are defeated.”
“Very well, sir.” responds The Butler, as he produces a cup of tea, to which he adds two teaspoons of sugar, and stirs. He leaves the cup on the desk next to The Gentleman and leaves the room.

Another three hours pass, as The Gentleman continues his studies. The sun long since set, and the cold, dark night set in. Randolph stands, stretching one last time. He turns to leave the room, and heads to the room at the back of the house.

The next day, Randolph takes a chartered jet to London Gatwick, where he is met by The Driver
“Back ‘ome, guv’nor?” he asks, in the familiar Cockney accent.
“Yes, thank you.” replies Randolph, as he sits back in the seat, and closes his eyes, picturing the images from the previous night. Some time later, the cab stops, and he opens his eyes to the familiar sight of Carter House. His home, and the place he will now spend the next few months preparing for his return to Canada. This time, far better prepared.

Fan Appreciation Day
For fan appreciation day The Detroit Falcons will give out a hat with falcon wings on it. The goal here is that these wings have the capability of flight. The idea is that when a player scores a hat trick and fans then throw their hats on the ice, the hats will literally take flight to the ice. The team is also allowing anyone who throws the hat on the ice at the end of the game a free replacement hat if the they can post on social media about throwing the flying hat on the ice in celebration of the great Detroit falcons.

Looking Forward to The Future
The Detroit Falcons have an exciting future ahead of them since they don’t really lose a ton of players to the SHL going into next season. The biggest loss for sure is Teemu Salami but they retain virtually every other top forward on the team. Players like Theo Kane and Bas O’Bigbers Jr. will improve and so the fire power will probably remain. Detroit also retains their top goal tender, Anastasia Soderstrom. That significantly helps things going into next season. We have a lot of talent on the blue line to back up our goal tender. I’m not sure that Detroit should be an expected favorite for the four star cup but they should be in that conversation.

Secret Plans
The secret plan so far is to sort of torture the opposing team by creating this infuriating white noise sound that is just audible enough that most should be able to hear it but not audible enough that it is immediately noticeable. The result is that some players will hear it, raise alarm, they will have mixed levels of support and this will divide a team before they’ve even stepped foot on the ice. When the opposing team complains we’ll just say that there are issues around the building and that engineers are working to identify a source of the issue. If the league sends some kind of team to investigate we’ll make sure that the device which causes the main issue is removed and we’ll replace it with a less noticeable but annoying smaller device that will almost certainly never be found. The point of this is that the league will have to come out and say that we are not intentionally sabotaging anyone. Full proof plan honestly.

Fun Times
Making Bas O’Bigbers Jr. the fun times coordinator was a terrible mistake that the team will soon regret. Bas O’Bigbers Jr. is a massive Phish fan and as such all fun times will be spent doing Phish themed activities. First the team will be forced to have a massive hot tub day as part of the “bath tub gin” celebration. The captain of the team will wear a crown and then a purple humpback whale will dive into the hot tub so everyone takes a bath! Then later that night the team will sit down to watch a recording of IT night 2 in its entirety. Anyone who leaves before the 3 and half hours are over suffers a team punishment! Then the team will all be forced to participate in a You Enjoy Myself Style Vocal Jam for 15 minutes so that everyone’s mind can meld together. While yes Bas runs the risk of having all of his teammates hate him, it is important to teach them about the great thing that is PHISH! PHISH IS LOVE PHISH IS LIFE. So even if no one has fun, they all learned. I think one fun part they all may enjoy is that this whole event will take place entirely inside the Vegas Sphere. So even if they don’t like phish they will like the colors.

Superlatives
So first of all the annoying player on the team is in fact Bas O’Bigbers Jr. He never shuts up about Phish and honestly has a lot of annoying fun facts that become exhausting to hear. In a nutshell he’s what the kids call “extra.” Roquefort Cotswald would be the player who almost seems like he loves other sports a bit more than he loves hockey. Despite being from Latvia, Cotswald seems to love American Football to a shocking amount and I don’t really understand it. He’d be the “quirky” one. Anastasia Soderstrom is a player for whom we as a team always love and feel like is a guiding light on the team. It always has felt like nobody what happens on the ice Soderstrom can always save the day and that really makes everyone feel like they can do anything. Soderstrom would be the “inspiring” one I’d say.

Team History
The Detroit Falcons are one of very few teams who have played since the very first season of the SMJHL and have also maintained the franchise in the exact same city they began in. As such The Detroit Falcons has a rich history since they won their first Four Star Cup in Season 5. That was the first of their eight four star cups with the most recent one being won in Season 74. Detroit has had generations of fans at this point and it is not enough to just compete. Fans demand to win every single year. It’s a lot to live up to but with the most recent cup being in Season 74 and The Falcons looking really strong going into Season 78 it looks like The Falcons could win another which would lead them to having four four star cups in 13 years. For a taem this historic that is a massive achievement.
