Free Agency is uncomfortable because it puts your career in limbo. When you are a bottom feeder like me, you have to do the legwork to find a team and have no idea if you'll find a landing place. When I was a prime asset, I wouldn't want to leave my team without any asset in return. Even then, I wouldn't know how to find a more promising situation unless I went and blindly asked around.

On a fundamental level, I'd need to be discomforted somehow by the team's locker room ambiance in some way in order to push me into free agency. I enjoy far more the aspect of cultivating an enjoyable group experience, and if performance is the team's issue, I'd rather step in and try and help with the strategic aspects so that the nice environment can also succeed in the world of SHL.

I would need a lot of guarantees about playing time, incentives for doing well, and a very good and player friendly contract. Also some ISFL friends wouldn’t hurt either

It would take a lot of effort to make me seek a new team with James, but if for some reason Calgary went radio silent overnight that might do it. Just the locker room vibes suddenly getting off.
