Chris McZherl III is going to light up the stat sheet and has done so in the first 12 games with over one point per game on the second line for the Anchorage Armada. I know McZ from Texas when I was first drafted to the Renegades and know that McZ can create some badass players that light the stat sheet up in the J and in the SHL. Nicolas Corrigan is on our first line as a Center and like McZ is going to be critical to this team’s offensive power. I did not know Corrigan previously, but I can tell you that the people in Anchorage love him because he is so friendly and I can’t wait to see how his player plays throughout the season. An interesting thing about these first two players is that they are both S78 draft prospects and there is a 49 TPE difference between them. The last player happens to be mine and I am excited to see what my Defenseman does throughout the season. So far in his 9 games, he has 4 goals and 8 assists with a +/- of 12 and over 10 blocked shots and hits. This is exactly what I was going for because I want to stop the puck from hitting my pals, Adam Joy and PeanutButter Zamboni, in goal for us.

The Whalers aren't looking the best this year so far, but if we can get our scoring back in action and the rooks start performing, then we might have a better shot.
Three players that are key to the success of the Whalers if they start performing better are number one: Oliver Cornwall, an assistant captain of the Whalers and one of the main players in the Whalers success last year. This year at the blueline he hasn't done the best but Cornwall is hoping to get back into the swing of it and start racking up more points. Number two: MattyJ He so far has the most points on the Whalers, with 15 points in 16 games. He is a great point collector, almost a point per game even when the Whalers are in their slump. Once the wins start coming, MattyJ may get even more points for the Whalers. Number three is NoNo Jo. While NoNo Jo, the captain, hasn't been great this year, he has been crucial to Vancouvers success in past years. As soon as the Whalers get out of their losing slump, NoNo will begin to pick it up. He is such an important part of the team on both ends, having 19 blocks and 23 hits this year. Once the Whalers begin to win more games, these players and more on the team will really begin to prove themselves in the league, helping the Whalers to claw back a playoff chance, if they can. Going into S78 the Yukon Malamutes face an uphill battle as they continue to rebuild. For this season to be a success they will need to replace production from top contributors on their way out. Stepping into those shoes will be the likes Ylib Kove, Hugo Spycher, annd Big Papi, but they'll also need contributions from their rookies like 1st overall pick Earl Biggins. Other potential rookie contributors include winger's Chuck Lumbermouth and Djoe Anderson, as well as center Christina Fantobens. Strong goaltending can always steal you several games, and that's exactly what the Mutes hope to get from 2nd year goaltender Phemeia McLaughlin and rookie Jökull Magnússon. If they can prove to be a steadying force as a tandem behind what should be an improved defense with the addition of Biggins, the Mutes should be in for a better season. We know Spycher, Papi, and Kove are gonna score, but can the goaltending hold up and the rookies contribute enough offense to offset what the Mutes lost and elevate the team even further?

The Vancouver Whalers are coming off a winning season, with a chance to do so again. With eleven returning from that championship year, they are loaded with playoff experience, and they know what it takes to win it all. NoNoJo will play a large role for the forward group, starting at first line center, His previous year was good, and he is only getting better. Two new goalie make up the crease for Vancouver, and Cristobal Khabibulin and DoomGuy will fight for the starting position. Trevor Lopez and Oliver Cornwall lead the blueliners, and will play a huge part of the Whalers playoff run. Dominic Enselmo and Levon Dojkic are the rookies for the Whalers, and they will be looked to for some depth scoring. They have a good chance once the pieces start falling in place.

NL started slow, hovering around 500 ten games in and really struggling to score (all wins had been 1 goal games up until then) but have since found their groove and are sitting at 10-6 and are in sixth place in the league at the end of the first week. The three players who will be absolutely crucial to this season's success are Hannah Crowder, Jason Bourne and Katharina Rosenthal. Hannah Crowder who is sitting at a point per game and shooting at an insane 30%, this lady can't miss. With the addition of three game winning goals, Hannah is really carrying this team to wins. Next star is rookie phenom Jason Bourne, sitting at 14 points while only playing 17 minutes a game he is helping this team when it matters and has come out of the gate real strong. Last star is rookie goaltender Katharina Rosenthal, sitting tied for the most wins in the league at 8, Rosenthal is quickly becoming the teams trusted backstop to carry the team to some wins.

The Newfoundland Berserkers are set up fairly well to be a team that is in a decent spot to start the season, but could really ramp it up towards the middle and end of the season. I think there's quite a few players who's impact will be important for the success of the team, but to highlight just 3 it's hard to choose the ones who aren't leading the way at each of their respective positions.
The first is what everyone wants, their #1 defender. For Newfoundland, that's Turtle Bob. The powerplay quarterback, the penalty killer, leading a rookie by his side. Having an elite defenseman at all is important, and having him perform is one of the ultimate keys for any team to succeed. The second is TheGreatOne. Your top line winger, powerplay, penalty killer. Newfoundland needs to lean on TheGreatOne if they want to find success this season. And finally, in nets is my own player, Katharina Rosenthal. A rookie. A good team needs their goalie to do the bare minimum, a great team is elevated by their goaltending. It's a lot of pressure on a young rookie goaltender, but she can ultimately be a huge difference maker for Newfoundland. Prince George Firebirds GM (S34-S36) Toronto North Stars GM (S37-S43)

San Diego is definitely in a rough spot compared to some other teams, but it is also a newer and younger team. That said, the current draft that San Diego just had was incredibly deep and has done a lot to help build the team a solid foundation. This should in theory, help the team to have a very strong season or two as these young players develop, and San Diego is able to continue bringing in new talent. However, I have been around enough and know enough about the teams, and the sim in general, to know that it doesn't much matter if you have the best TPE some seasons or the lowest TPE some seasons. The sim is also going to ultimately do what it wants to do, and you might find yourself on a losing streak or winning streak, especially when it matters. The playoffs. Having seen what Ottawa had done during Playoffs to the points leader, cinderella stories can potentially come true, and anything can happen.

Ottawa is looking to build off of last season's accomplishments, while still developing the team as a whole to a more rounded game.
One player in particular is leading the way for the teams offensive game - Easton Schaffer. In 16 games played, they have already amassed 23 points to lead the team in the current season all while maintaining a positive +/- rating - which can be difficult for a team trying to establish themselves. They have been the crucial set-up guy for the team, while also being able to score some goals of their own. Next up we have Master Empoleon our defensive mastermind, standing at a respectable 6ft 3in, he has been the stalwart on defense that this team needs if we want to be competitive. Rocking a decent +6 on a team that's been working their way up and down the league standings, but he also has the most blocked shots on the team with 10 more than the person below them. This is really important as our team has a lot of offensive talent with our current iteration. Finally, we have Bishop Van Apeldoorn - our starting goalie. While the defense in front of them may be a bit lackluster at times, there's still a lot of great things to be said about this tendys tenure in net. They're sporting a respectable .894 save percentage, while playing more games than the backup. A lot of stress for this player to work through, but I have confidence that the team will figure it out to help him in net.

Nevada looks like one of the stronger teams on paper heading into the season. With an average team TPE of 347 during preseason, they were the 2nd highest team trailing only VAN. You could argue forwards are more impactful than Dmen in FHM8, and NBB's 362 average forward TPE placed them first in the league heading into the season. It's no surprise in that case that the full 425 line of Raymond, Wieners, and Wingmate-Roc will be the key to Nevada's success this season. This line's purpose is to just score a lot of goals, and all 3 forwards are currently 1+ point per game throughout the first week of sims. I am going to be biased and say that Hip Hurts and Kiwi Söderberg-Snooks will also play pivotal roles for NBB. If the team has 1 weakness, it's defensive depth. They have 3 capped Dmen, but the next highest is Hurts at 245. If this pair can continue to develop to high 200s by playoff times, then they can do a solid job of limiting the team's only weakness.

From a rookies perspective . . .
In Quebec City, just 2 years have passed since the last championship parade, there's still confetti in the streets! Not sure what the says about our sanitation department but that's beside the point. QCC has had no small amount of turnover the past few seasons. Perhaps most notably, this most recent offseason losing 3 of the teams top 4 scorers. As is always the case with a development league like the J, as players depart and holes in the lineup are created, former rookies become relied upon to step up and fill those gaps. Second year players like Cristoforo Roccamontepiano, Andrea Morandi and the Mononymous star Peter will all need to elevate their games for this team to reclaim their place at the top. That's not to say they have to do it all alone . . . Swiss army knife Nor Ge returns for their third season and third position, last years standout defender is now a first line left wing. Joining Ge on the top line Gwendolyn Telenn, the newly acquired third year player adds a much needed veteran presence. Not only will they need to compete against the leagues best, but they will need to do it while attempting to drag their wild rookie Duke Howard up to speed as well! Picking just 2 or 3 players on this team to be the "keys to success" is difficult. (as the reader can probably tell by now) This is absolutely going to have to be a team effort, with everyone pulling their bit of rope in order to bring those parade busses out of storage!

After the preseason is over, it's evident that the Quebec City Citadelles have some bright future ahead of them, despite some obstacles along the way, especially defensively. As the season goes on, the players' growing camaraderie should be advantageous. Gwendolyn Telenn, who has demonstrated leadership qualities, will be essential to QCC's efforts to strengthen its defense. The second line, which includes Christoforo, Andrea, and Randolph, is ready to be a reliable offensive threat since each player has shown flashes of brilliance in the preseason. The team has great expectations for its newcomers as well. Aslak, Duke Howard, QCCBot4, Dejana, and me, Ela, have all shown hints of what we can provide. Even though the Citadelles don't have a lot of momentum going into the season, expansion and consistent improvement are the team's main objectives. This season may be the first step toward the team's development into a strong challenger if they can capitalize on their strengths and strengthen their defensive deficiencies.

The Carolina Kraken are a young team heading into the season with signing nine rookies. Although the preseason was a rough go for the squad, it was valuable time on ice for all the young bucks.
The first pick of the Kraken draft, Kenneth Lind, looks to be the future of the blue line and be a terror on opposing forwards. The star of the show is winger Swedish Chef. The winger from Sweden tied first for points and goals in preseason action and looks to ride that momentum into the regular season. A sneaky late third round pickup from the draft is winger Blake Hutchinson. The American had a solid preseason showing with four points and looks to get regular time on ice with his puck abilities and smartness on defense. |
