There is always that old saying "If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying" and Jack St. Clair believes in this up until a certain point. Everyone does it, and sometimes they get caught. Nothing wrong with that, so long as there isnt intent to injure and it doesn't break the spirit of the game. Mostly talking about hooks where you try and prevent the player from gaining an advantage, but only to slightly disrupt them. Little whacks to protected areas just to keep the opponent off their game, run a little bit of interference, holding in the corners. Maybe a facewash. These are all not the most egregious of cheats but if you are sly enough and do it in a manner the ref doesn't see or think it was worth calling as part of their game management plan, it for sure give you an upper hand on the way to winning. Nobody except the salty fans will remember a slight hook in a championship game, but they will remember you holding up the trophy.

I love pranking all my teammates in NEW. My favorite person to mess with, however, is Pork Tenderloin. What I Do is I train all the time, do super great in practice and really really show that I Am trying to be as good of a defense man as him. I mean, First on the ice, last off the ice, really hit the weight room, only eat what the nutritionist tells me, really really do my best to make sure I Stay in shape and get proper rest. I Do everything I can do make sure I am in perfect game ready shape. Then, once the puck drops, I straight up play like I'm a rookie in the JR league. I stay out of position, I make horrible passes right up the center of the ice, I reverse to Pork every time pork moves up the ice. I force pork to cover for me all the time. in fact, last game I went for a line change as the puck was coming to me. Man, you should have seen porks face as I skated right by the puck and yelled "YOURS!" as I got to the bench,

NO one else thinks my jokes are funny, but I know they are great!!

If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying. This is Henri Losanov motto when it comes to try to get an interference goalie get called. Some people may call it bullshit but since it's fair game for players to step on the blue crease, same should go for goalies looking to get a call. It's the same when you play the puck behind the net, look to sell contact with an opposing player. Players are so big now too, you can't let yourself intimidated in your crease by all those 6'9 forwards. A good ole blocker punch while the referee isn't looking is an another trick Henri likes to use. You're trying to kill a PK and your team has a hard time to clear the puck, it would be very unfortunate during a push from post to post to dislodge the net right? Oops sorry my bad, not my fault the arena crew didn't do their job to not allow this.

Edouard Lavoie has a few standard tricks he will use during games to try to get an edge against his opponents. The standard stick tap to ask for the puck on zone entry when the puck carrier can not see you is pretty normal, but effective. He has also worked on the "look off" where you look to a part of the ice pretending to either go there or pass there, before going and or passing in another direction. He has also worked hard at getting better at his situational awareness behind the net so he can bank shots off the goalie or pretend to bank shots off the goalie and feed an open teammate for an easy goal while the goalie is distracted from the fake bank shot. Ultimately, none of these are fool proof methods for tricking your opponents, so Edouard simply keeps working hard to be better than his opponents. It is the only way to reliably beat them, so that is always his goal.

Aksel would be lying if he said he didn't like pranks. He feels like it makes the newer guys feel more at home, so he'll tape jerseys inside out, tape skates, and tape inside gloves. He goes through so much tape every season. Anything that's just stupid and annoying, he's all about. All the pranks he's seen that break things or hurt his guys, he's super against. He's had to take players aside after a stupid prank to talk them through why the prank wasn't good and brainstorm an apology and a future prank because good vibes are important and Aksel really wants everyone to have a good time, but he also wants to make sure that no one feels targeted or scared about coming into the locker room or getting on the ice. He has 4 rolls of tape in his bag just waiting for a good opportunity, and a chance to give some levity.

Shadow Fenix has a sense of honor when playing hockey. That is to say tricks absolutely will never be used by him, and frankly, he isn’t even really sure of how tricks could be used. When playing hockey, he always just gets in the zone, and becomes one with the game. There’s nothing anyone could do to fool him, they could only outplay him with superior skill. That’s why he’s constantly training and trying to become the best hockey player that there ever was. Of course, opposing players will always try to gain the upper hand. Sometimes they’ll embellish the trip, or sometimes they’ll have a hit just barely after the whistle, but where it’s long enough where it raises an eyebrow. When those types of things happen, Fenix just decides to score goals on them because it makes him extra angry that someone would go against the honor code of hockey.

Cheating is not the textbook play in any sports, including hockey. However, many players change their game physically or mentally to have some sort of advantage in the game. Kevin Kim is not new to these tricks, and uses them pretty often. Why do you think Kevin gets penalties? Because he got caught in an obvious effort to cheat. Every player gets these penalties, and it is incorporated in our game to be a regular occurrence. So no, Kevin does not think cheating is bad per say, however some cases vary. For instance, when a player gets incredibly dirty and hits players in their soft spots (Groin, neck, head) intentionally, this pisses Kevin a lot, because these hits could cause game ending injuries preventing players to play. Fortunately these plays are not a regular occurrence, but when these cheats happen, there is a lot of arguments to potentially banning a style or a player as a whole.

Prank Level 1 : Harmless Prank
An extremely mild prank without much setup, but also not as much embarrassment. Dunkler may hit you with the fake high five, a “made you look”, or even a “pull my finger.” If you get mad over this you are the problem.
Prank Level 2: Classic Prank
Slightly more setup required, slightly more hurt feelings but still overall we are in very tame prank territory. Think whoopie cushion, or quarter glued to the floor style pranks. You are being targeted here and maybe as a hyper competitive athlete you dislike that.
Prank Level 4: Bonafide Prank
Now these are the pranks that get mentioned by the coach and media in pressers. The ones that can start a friendly prank war. This is the shaving cream in the face during the post-game interview. Getting your clothes tossed into your shower so theres nothing for you to wear once you’re done.
Prank Level 5: Day-Ruining Pranks
The only way Dunkler is hitting you with one of these is if you’ve done him or a teammate bad. This is “car filled with packaging peanuts” or “dead fish in your locker” level of impact.

Like I said before, one of the first pranks pulled on my new player was the Buffalo Stampede general manager firing me as his co manager. Ongo Gablogian is a bit of a prankster, but it usually involves sneaking LSD into people’s gatorades so they start tripping balls. One time @Zombiewolf was tripping so hard he stripped down to nothing but his jock and his skates and scored three goals in two minutes. The coach actually started requiring all players take LSD before every game. It didn’t end up working out very well and most of the players either had complete mental breakdowns or ended up attacking the other players, thinking they were demons. As it turns out, Ongo had forgotten to spike zombiewolf’s gatorade and zombiewolf just did that all on his own because he is that much of a man. Other than that, Ongo likes to put people’s clothes in the sink and then throw them in the freezer.

baron just can’t resist messing with the guys a bit, keeps things interesting. one of his favs is slipping a little voodoo charm into their gear - nothing harmful, just something to spook them. maybe a little doll with some wild hair, or a “cursed” object he found at a thrift shop. he’ll act all serious about it too, warning them to “handle it carefully” or they might end up cursed with bad luck on the ice.

most of the guys roll their eyes and laugh it off, but there’s always one or two who get a little freaked out. they’ll double-check their locker, maybe even ask him how to “undo” the curse. of course, he’s got some elaborate ritual they need to follow to lift it. it’s all in good fun, though. the team’s used to his antics by now, and it keeps the mood light in the locker room.

Tricks and slightly dirty play are definitely helpful when you can pull them off. Celeste largely relies on skill, but sometimes you just need to employ the stuff that isn't necessarily by the book. As a soccer player, they're most definitely not above embellishment to try and get a penalty called. and as a smaller player it's relatively easy to sell a hit from a bigger skater as a bigger deal than it actually was.
And with Celeste's general awareness of the ice and the players around them, they're not generally a player that's going to fall victim to the kinds of dirty plays you can see coming from a mile away.
They're also not going to whine about getting got with one of those dirty plays, though. To them, learning to avoid those plays is both a game and a skill to be honed in the process of becoming a better hockey player. If that means they take a few dirty hits or get slewfooted, so be it.
