6. How was the season for you player? What you expect from next one? - 200+ Words - 4 TPE

This season sucked for Dave there is no sugarcoating it as he failed to hit double digit goals for the first time in his career, failed to hit fifty points for the second time in his career, failed to hit forty points for the first time in his career, and overall just failed. It is a clear trend that regression is really getting to him as these past three seasons are his fourth fewest points, second fewest points, and now fewest points. If not for Chicago's request I would be retiring him rather than doing this point task, but I will keep him alive a little longer because I love the team that he is a part of right now. Now I am trying to look a little closer at this stats and I really wish I hadn't as his shooting percentage this season was an abysmal 6% being worse than last season where he managed 9.7% and both of those are the oly times in his career he failed to break 11% on the season. On a positive his 55.2% faceoff percentage is the best in the past four seasons, and tied for his eighth best slash fifth worst. The fact that the only high point for him about this season is a stat not being the worst of his career though really hammers it home that this season whomped. All this before pointing out that it is his worst +/- being almost as much negative as his next two worst seasons combined evading that fate by a whole one goal.

Tampa Bay has potential to end the longest standing cup drought in the
league, even longer than what San Francisco ended by winning their first
cup in S76, and even if they fall short here they should be in position
to be competing for cup for seasons to come. But even as we have seen
some droughts end there are still multiple teams that have had to wait
for more than 25 seasons by now. Toronto hasn’t won since S35, Minnesota
since S39, Baltimore since S47, Calgary since S50 and Manhattan since
S52, which of these teams do you think is in best position to end their
drought and why?

Based purely on TPE spread, I want to say the Toronto North Stars are the most likely of the teams listed to end their cup drought. They improved quite significantly in the standings from season 77 to season 78, and this year they managed to push the Buffalo Stampede to 7 games in the first round of the playoffs. Their top players are just about to reach their peaks, and the supporting roster is full of up and comers who are all only going to continue to improve. They're definitely still a young group, but ancient regressing players (specifically mine) are annoying and overrated.

Pick a one SHL or SMJHL team, that isn’t your own, that did not play as you would have expected at the beginning of the season. Did they do better or worse than you expected? Why you think your expectations were off, can you find an explanation for their performance? Does this change how you view them going into next season?

Apparently it's 'talk about the Toronto North Stars day' for me. They've been in rebuild mode for the entirety of my career in the SHL, so I admittedly wasn't paying attention at all to how much they've grown. At the start of the season I was expecting for them to continue on being a bottom feeder team, and they smashed that idiotic notion into the ground. Anyone with actual eyeballs and a pulse would have seen that they have been on a steady rise in the standings since season 74, and their roster looks primed for a long stay at the top. That is, if they can address their defensive issues. With a goal differential that is almost dead even (-1), the North Stars have issues keeping the puck out of the back of their net. They are scoring just fine with their first line, but it drops off significantly after that. Nonetheless, now that I'm paying attention, I have all the faith in the world that they're going to figure it out. Wally knows what he's doing, and he's already done the hardest part of drafting and developing his locker room after he blew it all up way back in season...uh, season 69. It's true, I went back and made sure.

6. Leo Roze had a pretty good season on a very not good Chicago team. He had a career year(as a sophomore player but even including the SMJHL) offensively. His shots blocked dropped but he really turned on the jets when it came to scoring and assists. I think it’s a great sign for what’s to come with him when Chicago gets older and more successful due to us getting more TPE. (+1 TPE)

11. If I was the dictator of the SHL, my main thing I would do is try and get as much parity as possible. I think that the SHL has pretty good parity already but I have a great idea to make it better. We do a full league draft every season. Every single player gets redrafted every year. This is a great idea because then teams would be even. Who wants to have a community when you could constantly just keep changing who is on which teams. You may say that people want to stay with their friends and on the same the same team but they are just boring. I also wish there was more roleplay opportunities in media. I had an idea back when I was in the WJC, and could be put into the IIHF, where there is a like a 1.5x media bonus for people who wrote about a festival type event during the WJC/IIHF. You’d have a huge event that people would go to and interact with other players. We would reward people for writing about this with the bonus media. I think this would do good things for the league because it would allow people to show off their players personality and could create some fun stories with others (+4 TPE)

12. The main difference in the IIHF this year is going to be that Latvia will win Gold. How do I know? Because Latvia is cool. No one expects it, we’re always underestimated so therefore that will be the biggest swing ever. In the WJC the biggest change is RATVIA!!!! We love Ratvia it is the greatest name change ever and whoever came up with it is great. (+1 TPE)

This season, I don't think a lot of my surprise was given in the regular season. But the playoffs sure threw me for one heck of a loop with some of the different results that came from it. (All for Maine to just win it anyways) The biggest surprise was Anchorage getting swept in round 1 of the playoffs. They looked very formidable during the regular season, even though they had a bit of a tapering off there toward the end. Clearly though, that tapering mattered for the playoffs because they just ended up never finding their stride again. Then again though, I didn't quite expect Kelowna to make it to the finals either. Just a wild playoffs!

11. Give Me More - 188 Words - 3 TPE
Well, I really don't feel that it's stale here at all yet. In fact, I think even now that I've been here for at least a season or two I still find new things that I didn't even know existed. I just found the betting forum the other day and I think that that is certainly a feature of the site that could use some more love and even retain some engagement. A more simplified system of proposing and initiating bets through the portal or maybe an 'official' sportsbook done through the portal as well that maybe can connect to the index so things could be auto paid out? Also I've been a long proponent of realism in my sim leagues and I really think that maybe one season out of every 10 should just have injuries on for the shits and giggles. It would certainly make some of the more lesser used attributes more important, make the role of the enforcer a bit more important and would allow for more strategy making to happen behind the scenes to play around injuries and what not. Could be fun!

2. Derek Martin is player with most points that plays in finals. Los Angeles has 3 other players that are also above or tied in points with Tampa’s Max Carnage. Does Los Angeles have advantage on scoring or does it just seem like it as they have also played 3 more games?

In order to answer this question sincerely, we need to look at historical trends. In the SHL, a “championship window” could be anywhere from 3-6 years. If I am being conservative, lets look at the past 3 years of Los Angeles Championship runs, and see if their offence is consistent with the trend.

In season 76, Los Angeles scored the 3rd most goals in the league, taking a slight regression into season 77, where they were 7th, and THIS season, the leapt back to their normal offensive prowess; 2nd in the league, tailing only the San Fransisco Pride, absolute juggernauts.

San Fransisco were 1st, 2nd and 1st again in scoring from S76 to S78. After the Panthers suffered their disappointing exit in 7 games in season 77, they knew that DEFENCE was not going to stop the Pride, they had to outscore the,.

Los Angeles were eliminated by San Francisco in Season 76 AND Season 77. Coincidentally, the Pride were the only team to remain in the top 2 offensively in each of these seasons. It’s no surprise that Piastri, Martin, and Prpich have taken home another cup, supported by underrated Oliver Castillon.

Although Offense was key to finally getting the Pride monkey off their back, Gregorz Brecysckawicz posted a .926. There is no doubt this Polish tendy is a future hall of famer. So basically, you need otherworldly goaltending and juggernaut offence to come out of the Western conference.

The playoffs could have been longer for the Atlanta Inferno. We were totally embarrassed in round 2 by the Tampa Bay Barracuda. BONGO posted 10 points in 10 games (3g, 7a). This season, Bongo had a little regression pointswise, (61 points to 47 points), but most surprisingly, BONGO’s penalty minutes increased to 60. The team had a lot more grit this season and it shows that they were getting chippy and rough. Atlanta will be BUILT for the playoffs.

8. I think tampa bay has the favors coming into the finals since they haven't lost as many games meaning they are more rested overall and since its only a one game loss the morale could be high in tampa bay while in los angeles they are exhausted from game 7s and morale isn't as high from losing almost half of the games they have faced
but los angeles also has more recent experience in playing more high stakes games since they have played game 7s while tampa bay has just basically swept their way into the finals meaning no recent experience in high stakes games so if it comes to game 6 or 7 i would say los angeles would win but if tampa bay manages to get a early lead they will win the series so overall tampa bay has a better shot if they can just get going early but if the fail to do so i will say los angleses will win the series and bring the cup. and my prediction is florida wins the cup in game 6 with winning the first two games losing the next 2 and then winning 2 of the next games thats at least my prediction on how the finals will go

13. this isn't really realistic or anything but it would be funny for the finnish region of uusimaa (the provience where helsinki is located in) to get a world champ team since there was also kinda of a joke when the boarders from uusimaa was closed to the rest of finland to try to reduce the covid infection in rest of finland that uusimaa should just become independent (this was only a joke btw nothing accttualy serious) but of course it could never happen due to the lack of finnish players and just because its pretty unrealistic for uusima to get a team what has no identity like quebec.

2. I don't think Los Angeles has an advantage in scoring over Tampa Bay. When it comes to playoffs, every team is giving their all. They are all fighting to score and fighting to not let the opponent score. You leading players in points will get shutdown come finals time, you have to be prepared to find scoring in depth. Having players that have more points that your opponents means nothing once it comes to the finals. The finals are like a new season, everything is reset and the best comes out of every single player on the ice. You will get scoring from players that you usually don't expect to see scoring from. Heroics from players that aren't getting more than 10 minutes a night. It comes down to how badly you want it, how much fight you will give. Playoff hockey is where giving and inch could be giving a mile, you have to play at your best the entire time. (162 Words, +3 TPE)

6. Overall, this was a good season for Sven Holmberg. To start off, it was the first season where he had a positive plus/minus. Holmberg was very potent on the powerplay, scoring 10 goals. It was also another season where he spent a fair bit of time in the penalty box, ending up with 73 penalty minutes and 2 fights throughout the season. Defensively, he was able to block 172 shots and throw 49 hits to help his goalie and team. Throughout the season he was able to takeaway 50 passes, while only having 8 of his passes given away. Overall a good season for Holmberg as the Calgary Dragons start to go on the upswing. (116 words, +2 TPE)

I don't have the data to back it up but I don't think playing fewer games or being that rested is really much of an advantage in this league. There is something to be said for playing more games and being in the trenches more, makes you hungrier or harder or something they say in the movies. The team that has been less battle-tested may actually be at the disadvantage. Sure, they're more rested and fresher, but there is something to be said for doing things the hard way. And honestly, we are talking about three games less. It's not like Tampa just went for a stroll and Los Angeles were fresh out of the Battle of the Bulge or something. Three games isn't really enough to make a huge difference. Maybe if Tampa only played their 12 games and Los Angeles played 21, we might be talking about something different. I just don't see how either team had an advantage based on their game totals. You can make a case for either way but I just don't think it was a factor here, especially since the Panthers ended up winning the whole thing anyway. But I'm no expert and I don't look at that much data, so don't take this as any more than opinion.

Yea I'd totally change the format. It's actually pretty simple. At the start of the season each team goes into a pot. Selected randomly, teams would face off in a best of three series. The winner moves on while the loser goes into the redemption league. Then we play the season like normal, 66 games. There would be a redemption playoffs and a regular playoffs, best of five. The people that didn't make the playoffs would be put into a double elimination mini-tournament king of the mountain challenge. Whoever won the redemption losers bracket would qualify for the redemption playoffs. After the first round, the playoffs would be played as normal until we get to the final four who would compete in a round robin tournament. The top two teams from that round robin would face off in a best of seven series to determine the SHL Undisputed Continental Regional North American Laramie County Challenge Cup Champion.

6. How was the season for you player? What you expect from next one?

Leo Finnegan had an excellent year in the SMJHL developing into a star defenseman. This year was heavily focused on defending and it was a great year at that. Leo was the best player in the league when it came to taking the puck away and reducing offensive chances. His take away to give away ratio was absurdly high for a defenseman. There was some disappointment when it came to his point totals. As one of the league leaders in time on ice, Finnegan was expected to produce a few more points. This next off season will be an exciting chance to work on his offensive involvement. The talent is there, he just needs to get used to having his puck on his stick and making plays faster. Working with skill development teams from Philadelphia and Newfoundland will help speed up the process. Although the Berserkers need to start winning to find true success in Finnegan's eyes, the future looks quite bright. With an upcoming influx of talent through the draft and the young players continuing to develop. Leo will be looked on as a veteran, even though he has already logged heavy junior minutes since his rookie year. If Finnegan can get his offensive game going he could even challenge for the top defenseman in the SMJHL. (218 Words +4 TPE)

Each series was won by a score of 4-1, and they only lost 2 games to the strong Kelowna Knights roster before raising the Four Star Cup. (83 Words +1 TPE)

5. Finals can often come down to smallest details and teams are looking for any edge they can have. On average Tamba Bay players have longer names by almost 2 characters, how can either of the teams take advantage of that?

Playoff hockey can definitely come down to the smallest of details, especially when both teams are pretty closely matched in terms of talent. Tampa Bay players have longer names by almost two characters, which may give the Los Angeles Panthers a slight advantage as the longer names lead to heavier jersey weights. This could come to bite Tampa Bay in the butt if they come out skating sluggish, being weighed down by the long last names on their backs. The Panthers on the other hand will be light, likely being able to fly on the ice. Tampa Bay players may want to look to change their names or they'll be in big trouble.

6. How was the season for you player? What you expect from next one?

This was Toronto North Stars' Teemu Salami's first season in the SHL and it can be categorized as a solid season. The right winger finished the season with 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points overall. His 41 points ranked 8th on the team. His +/- rating of +8 was good for 5th on the team. Salami spent just 18 minutes in the penalty box, which ranked 4th on the North Stars. Being apart of a team who went 38-25-3, earning 79 points, and making the playoffs made the season that much better. One thing Salami struggled with was his shooting percentage, having just a 7.5% clip on the season. Salami also seemed to be a little bit of a liability on defense, putting up a defensive game rating of 61 on the season. That defensive game rating was 2nd worse on the team. If Salami can find a way to improve in those two areas, I fully expect him to have an even better season next year. He's young and you would expect him to only get better as he gets more comfortable in the league and starts to find his footing. Salami and the rest of the Toronto North Stars have been working hard in the offseason. Big things are coming for Salami and the Toronto North Stars.

Besides the obvious answer of Tampa Bay who just barely lost in the finals this season with plenty of chances to come, Baltimore is in a decent enough position to at least challenge for the cup. But between the non-Tampa teams I believe Manhattan and Toronto are currently in the best spot to do so. They both have extensive and great prospect pools with many young players already called up. If they wanted to they could easily spend the next five seasons without a single player in regression. Now that's impressive. And it's also what gives them the upper hand against a team like Minnesota, which a lesser prospect pool.

2. There is an advantage for tampa in scoring because the western conference is so horrible at hockey it should be very easy to score goals. Anyone on a decent team in the west should be able to crack the top 5 in pijt s in the west, so anyone doing so in the east is better.

They are not good and need to be put back in their place by the other nations in the world. Also the addition of Quebec is a mistake and needs to be reverted ASAP.
