S80 PT #1: The Greatest Show On Earth Due: Sunday, December 22nd @ 11:59 PM PST

Written Task, Option 2

This season, as with all and every season, opening night is a special one. This season, there is much more of an air of anticipation building in Montreal. The rebuild has been long, and the fans have remained loyal and patient. But after some long seasons of struggle there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel, and the Patriotes look forward to being a team to watch, rather than just another night on the schedule.

With that in mind, Rodrigo Banes is out to make a strong first impression opening night. He pre-game routine is dialled, his nap fine-tuned down to the minute. The chicken and pasta is HEARTY. He arrives early, and will leave late, giving himself ample space and time to prepare, and to wind-down afterwards. Staying late for media availability, and to sign autographs and meet fans, is always a pleasure at home games, and the season opener is extra special. It's a big night, and it should be savoured.

Task 1:

It is a great honor to be invited on to the Greatest Show On Earth, to prove the true superiority of hockey. James frankly thinks the idea needs no elaboration, but goes anyways since it's a chance to prove that it means something to be 'the best there is at what he does'. For James's portion of the show, they'd be getting the beefy guys in. That means the catcher for baseball, a linebacker for football, and an attacking midfielder. I think James excels at a lot of the strength based challenges since he manages to do them while on skates, so being on solid ground would be like taking off training weights. He has more agility than a linebacker needs, and more strength than a midfielder might need. Where he suffers are the baseball challenges, a sport that always bothered him due to the amount of patience required before those big bursts of energy. He needs to release that tension, and tends to get early starts called on him in those challenges. For the victory it's neck and neck between him and the soccer player, but he would eke it out in the end. He does take a few of those ideas from the other contestants' sports to heart though.

(Forgive me soccer fans if I mixed something up about that lol, I'm not too knowledgeable)

Written Option 2: Gwendolyn always tries her best in any game to be honest. If anything, the first home game has her playing worse due to anxiety more than anything else. No, where Gwendolyn spends much of her time to make Home Opening nights special comes from her art. She sells originals of her artwork for charities and happily signs any shirts or memorabilia her fans ask for. She's always had someone to look up to, and she wishes to not be why people say "Never meet your idols." Sure, she's human, but she wishes to help those around her when she can and enjoy her favourite sport alongside it all. Once the game and ceremonies end, Gwendolyn turns to social media to talk highly of those she's met that night and talk about her favourite highlights of the night. Seeing the excitement in people's eyes and responses has always been worth it to her.

Written Option 2:

Twinkle Toes always eats a massive peanut butter sandwich before opening night. He's done it so long he can't remember how it even started but he dare not break the tradition. Then, he shows up to the rink early to sign autographs for the kids. He remembers trying to get his hero's autographs when he was their age and the exhilaration when he got another signature on his worn out jersey. Afterwards, the earbuds are in and the music is blasting. He listens to anything with a driving beat to help get his blood pumping. Twinkle is nervous until he hits the ice but once he's on his skates flying around the rink, those worries disappear. The end of the game comes and Twinkle is bagged from giving everything he had. Returning home he digs into the fridge and grabs a cold brew from the back. The best way to celebrate a great opening day.

Written Option 2:

For Home Openers, there is always a certain buzz around them, since they reflect a new season which means everything that happened the previous season doesn't matter anymore. So you always have to take that into consideration, my player tends to try to make it memorable for the fans who paid extra in order to view the season opener. So my player tends to do numerous things, such as staying out for extra time in order to sign things for the fans in attendance, take photos with them and to talk with them. When introduced in the pre-game ceremony I just tend to keep it casual and not fool around like Ryan Reaves did for the Toronto Maple Leafs last season, flexing to the fans. I tend to let my play talk for itself, so my player doesn't feel the need to do something special for the introductions. Along with that, my player always goes 120% in every game, since what is the point of playing the game if you're not going to try your hardest? If you're only trying 80% just get off the ice, and let someone whos going 100% play more. You are just hurting the team by being selffish.

Written Option 2: Home Opening nights are usually big shows for the hosting team. Fans are watching with anticipation, waiting for the first look at what their favourite teams are going to look like this season. How does your player try to make opening night special? Do they stay behind to sign autographs for the fans? Do they give it 120% to get a win for the first home game of the season? Do they do special celebrations when introduced in the pre-game ceremony?

This is Levin's seventh home opener for the San Francisco Pride, so obviously he isn't as nervous as he used to be back in the day, which helps him enjoy this special day in the season. Nowadays, he will usually take part in the festivities ahead of the game, which usually involve an autograph session with the fans at the arena the evening prior to the game - you don't want to be too distracted when you have a game coming up, after all. Unfortunately, the team had 5 straight away games to start the season, so their home opener was on October 17th, which is rather late in the season, and an even more agonizing wait to greet the Challenge Cup champions and the raising of the banner in the arena... They played against a Manhattan Rage outfit that most probably didn't expect that kind of a beatdown, with the team highly motivated to show their best side to the Bay area faithful, en route to a 9-0 throbbing of the Rage. We apologize to the Manhattan fans, and want to point out that no cattle was injured during the duration of the game.

When Sonja was first invited to this show very recently, she could hardly believe her eyes. This wasn't just a lot of fun but also a great opportunity to meet new people or people she might have been looking up to even. So of course she did not hesitate to accept the invitation. And looking back, she did quite well in it. She was schooling on the ice which, made sense given her experience there and the fact it was her main sport. Then there was of course other sports where she did relatively well but was the one to be schooled and of course there was also baseball which she just wasn't good at. And she knew that so it wasn't a surprise either. Then there was of course the best part of the night when she got to meet the man who inspired her since the early stage of her career and who still inspires her, Cristiano. He was really nice and friendly with her, the pair has chatted a lot as well which was a dream come true for the Norwegian. So all in all this was one of the best experiences in her life so far. And who knows what else to come.

Written option 2.
I would imagine that my plaer would make opening night special by appearing to sign autographs for the fans and more than likely do an auction for the less fortunate ones. They may also do a sort of make a wish foundation deal as well given their popularity. With that being said, I think beyond that Roisin would do her damnedest to make sure she gave opening night a 130 plus percent, probably to the point of even over doing it a bit to be honest. The goal likely being to make sure that she gave the team a big win that wouldn't soon be forgotten by the fans or by the team. Pregame wise, I doubt they would have any special celebrations or such, but likely would post game. Post game I think you'd see them take the team out for drinks, likely at her favorite pub down the street from the arena.

When Shawn Pawn was invited to the "GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH", it was a big shocker. Up until now Shawn Pawn had always lived a very cloistered life out of the limelight, however one day his agent reached out to him and said, "you would be a fool to not take this opportunity. They said they would pay you a metric poopton and you would never need to worry about money again." So Shawn Pawn agreed to this proposition and showed up to the show, Shawn Pawn had no idea what the shows premise was or that there would be quite a few other world class athletes there, it had staples from the international football league like Hall of Fame Offensive Linemen Stumpy Jones and the current cornerback for the Sarasota Sailfish Spruce Willis, who is coming off a fresh Ultimas Loss among other stars. Shawn Pawn does moderately well, thriving in the activities that are based off of balance, there was even some gymnastics action where Shawn Pawn won the balance beam so that was pretty cool. Among sweeping the hockey events, he was also very good at the football rushing drill in that he never went down. The event he did the worst in was actually the Badminton match. Every time Shawn Pawn's racket touched the shuttlecock that shuttlecock flew out of bounds.

1. Cade de Vries got invited on to a pretty cool game show, seeing which out of the 4 athletes in 4 different sports is best among all of them. Now, for de Vries, his biggest strength is well, his strength. More specifically, his arm/core strength and his hitting ability, so when it comes to the 4 sports (Baseball, Football, Soccer and we’ll his own hockey), of course he’s the best at hockey, given it’s normally very hard for people who don’t skate to get good enough to compete at a high level. Now, de Vries does well in football, mainly LB due to his 6 foot 7 stature, and for his ability to lay down the “hit stick” and for having really good vision and pursuit of the ball carrier. For baseball, given he at least is accustomed to swinging a stick wildly, he can do owlish at batting, but the core power allows him to unlock a new type of pitching the show hasn’t seen before, a submarine pitch, or sidearm at a very,ow launch point, which allows him to even throw off the professional batters a bit (Not to much, they’re still professionals)

Written Option 1:

Slip McScruff was accidentally invited to this Greatest Show on Earth because they forgot hockey existed until the last minute and Slip was the only person still available to come to the studio. He does go because he wants to stay relevant and also he needs a paycheck because no one is paying him this season. Slip comes in last in every sport, even hockey.

Luckily, the other athletes treat him well because they don't see him as any kind of threat. So for the first time in months he got to feel like he was on a team again. He didn't even care that he was losing everything because he's only ever lost for quite a few seasons already, to him, it's as natural as lacing up his skates (which he can still do).

In the hockey challenge, he managed to score a couple goals and block a couple shots. Granted, this challenge was dumbed down for non-hockey players and they all did better than he did. But he's hoping that a general manager might have seen him and considered him for a mid-season contract based on his showing.
