S81 mPT #4: Too Dead didn’t Line Due: Sunday, March 16th @ 11:59 PM PST

Things are fine. Players have a right to decide where they want to play and spend their life outside of hockey. So, from my opinion, no need for changes in the current system. Teams already have a lot of control for their guys.

Both yes and no. It would be a more interesting experience seeing more player movement. But I also know I wouldn't really want to be traded haphazardly around the league just for movement's sake.

More trades would be exciting for sure but we're not pro athletes paid for our craft. It would suck to build a relationship with your teammates and get traded every few seasons. Having fun in your locker room is most of the draw of the league.

Players don't tend to move too much in the SHL compared to the NHL. This can be a little boring but it's often the case where people participate in the SHL and their team because it's fun, without things like winning or money to motivate them to act in a certain way (like ask for trades, move in FA etc). Things like the trade deadline will inevitably suffer as a result of this.

I think this can be an issue in many sim leagues. There's a sense of community and friendship with the first team that drafts you, and it can make it more challenging to move teams. I think if there was an initiative for more movement, it would have to start with an incentive for free agents/GMs to move/trade in the first place.

The big thing with the SHL is line chemistry and that is very hard to build up quickly at the end of the season to be set for playoffs, but I think the trade deadline is fine with players able to be mostly comfortable with their teams.

It's hard for me to say honestly. As much as I'd love big blockbuster trades like how we see IRL, the fact of the matter is that most teams (at least from my experience) put vibes of the player and person in control of the player over their actual stats. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, why bother trading someone for more wins if you're trading a good friend?

I don't think there is anything that can be done unless the SHL adopts accusing cap space so competing teams that are already pressed against the cap will have wiggle room to make a move. This is why typically see moves during the offseason.

I don't follow the league enough to come up with a solution, but yes there is definitively something to be done to make the trade deadline more interesting.
I would have loved to see movement from my team to get better or to sell players, there is too much statut quo.

I don't think the trade deadline in the SHL should change. People like the teams/communities they are in and it would just be sad to ship them elsewhere for some arbitrary reason. The season is so short anyways that it hardly seems worth it.

Unfortunately there isn’t really much SHL can do in terms of improving the trade deadline. Especially considering every time teams start to get more stacked expansion happens and dilutes the market a little more.

I think things are fine the way they are! To be fair, I don't really know what way things currently are but by definition I think that means I am okay with it. Plus the seasons are pretty short.

put me incharge of the trade deadline with complete dictatorial powers over all smjhl teams i will totally not rig the entire league to get a bunch of 425s to kelowna so they cup forever and ever and ever also theres a trade deadline in the smjhl thats wild

No! GMs lock in their roster and there's not cap space to add a significant body at the deadline. Plus, chemistry actively deters people from those big acquisitions, especially on expiring contracts.

In short, it's bad for teams who acquire players at deadlines, and the deadline doesn't really matter. Stop trying to make the SHL TDL happen, Gretchen.

I would definitely like to see a bit more action on the trade front, at least during the season. We don't need 20+ trades like some leagues, but the fact that there's absolutely zero going on at the trade deadline is a bit weird. But honestly, I have no good ideas as to how to improve this.
