S81 mPT #4: Too Dead didn’t Line Due: Sunday, March 16th @ 11:59 PM PST
#1

NHL trade deadline can get crazy, SHL usually not so much. Do you think something should be done to encourage more movement of players during the season? Any ideas what could be done about it? Or do you think that things are fine as it is?

mpt pass.

I think lot of it comes down to the fact that in real life next season is lot further away than on SHL, nine weeks goes by lot faster than a year and that the stakes aren't nearly as high in SHL, also only 4 teams missing means there are less teams selling even if someone was looking to move a player plus lack of farm means sending young players down while replacing them with rentals isn't that feasible in the long run. Maybe somekind of cap relief could be implemented during the season to open up space to make some moves

I really think something needs to be done, for sure. More trades is good for the league, but there's so many things to account for, as well. Players may not want to move, for example, or a team might have barely missed playoffs (or 2nd round etc) and try to run it back when they shouldn't. If they don't expand playoffs with expansion that may help, though.

I was hoping to see some nice SHL Deadline Deals but nothing. Very sad about it. I believe after the Expansion we could see more Deadline Deals again. Because the Depth Level will be changed at this point. If Teams sitting full of top TPE players you have no need. After Expansion the teams will have some open spots.

Hard to say really. I think trades are a bit less likely because players become friends and although everyone wants to win there isn’t the same competition to win as in real life. I think it’s more a byproduct of teams having people that like each other and not wanting to give up an active person they like for another. It would be cool to see more trades though.

I think everything is fine as is. There's not a whole lot of pressure to win a cup and real millions of dollars aren't being thrown around. Being unwillingly traded more might just cause people to quit.

I personally think that however we approach it, the communal aspect of the league being one of the predominant drivers in how users engage and interact with its processes, we'll never see the same level of movement as the NHL sees.

I don't have a strong opinion on this but I think it would be more fun if there was more trading and more between team transfers like free agents. I think a lot of people are, understandably, loyal to the teams that drafted them but it would make it more interesting for the league if there were some roster changes and big block buster trades.

I'm all for making free agency active as much as possible, but I don't know if I feel the same about during the season. Also I haven't paid that much attention to in season player movement, anyway.

i think the trade deadline is fine as is. encouraging more movement would be tantamount to tampering and that's something that we really don't need to deal with on a regular basis

I believe that the expansion of the league will help with this issue. But, I think it’s fine how it is, as teams have already decided if they’re gonna tank or not much before the deadline

The only real solution would be to shift off of FHM to facilitate more trades. However, the way this sim engine prioritizes chemistry, this will never happen.

there is nothing wrong with the trade deadline or movement in season in the SHL. Movement in season should be done for reasons of making the playoffs and needs partners for that. If you want more movement you would probably need to reduce the number making the playoffs, but I think it is an ok number.
