S81 mPT #4: Too Dead didn’t Line Due: Sunday, March 16th @ 11:59 PM PST

The NHL trade deadline is only as crazy as it is because of the LTIR "loophole", which is not a loophole and is working exactly as intended. The league would rather have exciting trade deadlines than close that loophole.

The problem with the SHL is that there's no stakes involved that are high enough to prompt either a GM to yeet a good locker room presence for an unknown, or for someone who really loves their locker room to want to move to a different team for a chance at a cup with their current player. I don't think this is a solveable problem.

I think the main issue is that almost every team makes the playoffs. The teams that don't make the playoffs are either close to making playoffs and may not have incentive to sell, or are so deep into the rebuild that they don't have any assets a playoff team would be interested in.

The people are driven by TPE, so my suggestions is offer up 20 TPE for players traded to another team during the season. Will this work? Sure. Will it be ridiculously unfair for GMs? Absolutely.

SHL trade deadline barely sees any movement and hence not sure why nothing is done about it. There needs to be some sort of incentive to move players around. This will enhance the trade deadline ambience for everyone. Majority of teams just remain as is since they are happy.

I had not put a lot of thought into this, but now that I do, yes. Trades are one of the most interesting things about NHL, but in the SHL they happen quite rarely and are mostly not very dramatic. I get that people like stability and making longer-term connections, but it would make the league more interesting if there were more trades. But how to encourage it? That's a tough one. I have honestly no idea how chemistry works in the sim, but the only idea I can come up with is to somehow increase the likelyhood that a trade could improve the team chemistry and thus on-ice performance.

I am ok with the trade deadline not being too crazy.  Sure it's fun to see a team go all in, but that rarely pays off.  But, if a team wants to mortgage their future for that chance to win, go for it, because if they do get their ultimate goal of winning it all, it would be pretty awesome.

In order to do that, we would need to stop any and all of us from being too friendly with one another which considering the friendships built up is not easy

No, I think trading players is actually bad for a league like the SHL. Everyone forms friendships in the locker room and if players get moved around, those friendships don't form.

I personally don't have any idea. I see the same thing happen in most leagues i'm in, at the end of the day most people get attached to their teams/teammates and don't want to go elsewhere

I get the appeal of exciting trades and all, but I think things are fine how they are. People find their people in internet communities and like to stick with them. Also on my last player I got traded around a lot so personally I'm glad it's not happening so much this go around lol.

thank you amid, swoosh and eni for sigs! <3

Unfortunately, without the pressure of earning your living and finding a better situation to do so, there is little reason for people to move teams. If you want to encourage movement; offer a way for teams to recover value from players lost to FA (so that the players leaving don't feel as bad making that decision) and lower the cap to force teams to make decisions in who to keep. It's really the only way to get people to leave the sub-communities they've likely become attached to.

If teams want to trade at the deadline then they will. I do think there should be more incentivize to trade old veterans looking for a cup. Other than that, trades need to help the now and the future and those are tough to come by.

I would love to see more big deals after the trade deadline, and I think that there isn't just because of the neutrality of players. Not much can be done, but after expansion I feel like it should rise as more talent is spread.

I feel a trade deadline would be cool. Help teams make moves, but the issue could be some players get moved a bunch and push people out of the league.

I think that more teams should be willing to trade players that are IA. These players should be shifted around a little bit more often since they are most likely to be kept on a team for an extended period of time without being able to get moved. Maybe dropping these players could allow for some rookies to get CUTPE and give teams a new shot of life.
