So? Just cause their getting rid of Horcoff doesnt mean they will take Gunnar instead of a guy like Gardiner or Phaneuf.

Yeah that's my thoughts on the situation. Only way I really see a deal getting done is with Phaneuf or Gardiner.

Gunnarsson is a good DMan but just because he played top line minutes with Phaneuf doesn't mean he's a top defensemen he's a top 4 DMan on most teams and Edmonton has plenty of those

He is terrible. He does nothing well. Also no one would take his contract If it wasn't in a deal like this. Trading Gardiner or Phaneuf doesn't make a bit of sense from a Toronto perspective. No one at the 7 spot most likely has as much upside unless someone falls there like a Lindholm or Barkov. Odds are that the player selected there will never be as good as Phaneuf aswell.

Just doesnt make sense.

Horcoff isn't a terrible player, he has a high cap hit but he isn't a terrible player. He broke his knuckle last season and had a really crappy year, Ryan Smyth however, is a terrible player.

Don't think I like the actual deal either, we already have 2 2nds in this draft, I mean like I said I don't know a lot about Gunnarson but im guessing he plays a similar game to Jeff Petry. I'd think about the deal but not sure i'd do it.

Who are you trying to convince? It's well known he's awful and probably the worst captain in the NHL.

But this is coming from the guy that says he wouldn't trade a 7th overall pick for Phaneuf and that he's nothing more than a top 4 D. Strong talent evaluator.

That proposal is awful.


We have 3 top four D - man and a bunch of bottom pairing guys, we lack a top pairing Dman. We have guys that have the potential to be one in J.Schultz, Klefbom and Marcinin. Something I think Mact realizes, but we need some help now. No one on Toronto really fits our team needs on the backend. We need Steady Puck movers like a Bouwmesster, who would be a perfect fit on our backend and the way we play. Phaneuf isn't fast enough or good with the puck giveaways) to excel in Edmonton.

But ok he might not be terrible but honestly, compare Jay McClemment to him. He's a better play than Horcoff and Horcoff makes like 4 mil more. Horcoff is just not a good player and his cap hit just makes him horrible.
