S39 Championship Week
#16

Task #1 - How would round 1 have gone down if the team matchups had been different? Which teams would be advancing to round 2? Would it have been more evenly matched? Less?
Requirements: At least 200 words

Had the matchups been different we would've seen an entirely different postseason I believe. Vancouver clearly knew the strategy of choice to keep Kelowna down. Getting swept the Knights hope to rebound next season but had they faced Prince George, they could've gone through to the next round. Prince George had some troubles scoring in the first round and I believe Kelowna could've capitalized as they scored 12 goals in 4 against a very good Whalers team. Had this matchup been, I still see the Whalers going through against the Detroit Falcons. The Falcons had an even worse time finding the back of the net with 7 goals in 5 games and the Whalers came into round 1 extremely hot. Scoring 18 goals in 4 games is quite the feat, especially in the postseason. Vancouver is looking to go all the way, and I don't believe anyone can stop them save for the matchup we are looking at in the finals with St. Louis. If Kelowna had faced Detroit, again I think they make it through due to Detroit's troubles finding the twine, with Whalers plowing through Prince George Firebirds taking their rightful spot in the second round emphatically. The teams duking it out for the cup are the teams I saw doing it as soon as the season ended, no matter how the first round matchups went.

Task #2 - Make a top 5 list for the finals. Top 5 goals, top 5 players, top 5 noteworthy people in the audience for one of the games, whatever you want. No word count, but if you just list 5 names, you won't get the full 2 tpe. Be a little creative.

-TOP FIVE FANS-

1. Jimmy Sdnera - Man this kid loves the game. He lives and breathes it, watching as much as he possibly can. Scored tickets to the finals through his place of employment and doesn't care who's playing, but goes for the love of the game.

2. Kelsie Rettir - A fan of the fights. Kelsie keeps plastic knuckles on her as it brings her team luck in the fighting department. Plastic gets through the metal detectors allowing her to keep them on her game in and game out.

3. Avery Hsiri - A hockey transplant. Picked up watching the sport just recently but because he's filthy rich he has a suite to every game he possibly can. Possibly looking into purchasing a team and dons his Japanese jersey at every opportunity.

4. Matthew Nilmot - Again new to the game but unfortunately watches most games on the tele. When he gets to a game he goes full superfan, face painted, jersey, and even wears shinnies occasionally.

5. Eric Vazquez - Drunk. Every single game. The man spends a fortune on beer. When asked about the game the next day, his 1st star is the last beer he remembers drinking. Thankful for Ubers and Lyfts with this one, he pounds the beers harder than even the hardest beer leaguers.

Task #3 - Either write an interview with your player about your team's playoff hopes (or if you're on an eliminated team, an interview about your team's season in review) OR create a program cover for one of the games in any playoff series.
Requirements: Written option - At least 200 words. Graphic option - Logos of both teams in the matchup and at least one player render.

Reporter: So James Dekens, how do you feel about the season now that it has concluded for you and your fellow Knights?

J. Dekens: It was a heck of a rookie year. Though I played the fourth line and didn't get the ice time I'd have hoped, I took it with a grain of salt and continued to work hard throughout the season. I want my ice time, I have to earn it and that's what I'll be doing until opening day.

Reporter: James, you scored your first goal pretty late into the season, was it a relief when the puck crossed the line?

J. Dekens: Absolutely, I was beginning to get into my own head. Once it went in, a weight was off my shoulders and I was able to breathe a bit easier. Went on a short point streak that week and looking to build on it.

Reporter: How do you see the Knights faring next season after a disappointing first round exit?

J. Dekens: Everyone here in Kelowna is already gearing up for S40. We know what was expected of us from the fans. They wanted a deep run and while we dropped the ball this year, we are raring to go in S40.

Reporter: Last question here James, what can we expect from you next season? Will you focus on scoring or notching up some apples?

J. Dekens: I just want a season I feel good about. Get through it healthy as I can to provide some depth to the team. Obviously I want to contribute more next season, but there's more to the game than points and hope to provide some leadership and mental stability to the rooks that come in.
