Bobby Watson - Watson was one of the league's best players offensively with an impressive 74 points and also did really well defensively with 24 blocks and 96 hits. Watson's 2.06 defensive point shares were 3rd best amongst forwards in the league and his 54.87 CF% made him a strong player on the puck as well.
88 hits for a dar nominee is low... usually the minimum is 125-140 hits or more .. also Watsons PK minutes were under 100 which is low for a dar nominee and his face off numbers sat around 35% ... you dont have to be a center to win the dar but face off percentage is a spot they typically look at.. Watson was absolutley a MVP nominee but im glad to see that the committee didnt spill the MVP award into the dar as the attributes that help define the dar are differant then the Mexico.
Yea, I think the defensive point shares are what swayed me towards Watson a little. Honestly after Marius it was kinda open for me, I debated for a little over Watson, Bennett, Izzy and Atmey and in the end even though he only had 96 hits it was the underlying numbers that pushed me to put in Watson.
re his faceoff%, it's a non factor imo. He only took 93 faceoff which is way too small of a sample size to make a difference.
