Task 01: (Written, 3 TPE)
You are at the airport awaiting a flight to meet back up with your team after spending the day being honoured as a 'Hometown Hero' in the place where you grew up! Tell us about your day... what did they have planned for you? Who did you see there? What were you given? How did it turn out? ... In 150 words or more, tell us all about this big moment as hometown hero. Playing for the Lethbridge Lions in the SMJHL, going back to my hometown of Edmonton was an exciting time for me. I missed the increased hustle and bustle of Edmonton compared to Lethbridge. Once I arrived at the airport, I was greeted by family and friends. Unfortunately, the mayor or other city officials were not present to welcome me. This could be because of the lack of success I had in going deep into the playoffs with the Lions in the SMJHL. I spent the next couple of days with family and friends and visiting my old stomping grounds. The ceremony for me being honoured as a "Hometown Hero" was on the weekend and the turnout wasn't bad. I was given a key to the local rink, not quite big enough for a key to the city, and the day was temporarily announced as a civic holiday for a year. It was an exciting time for me. Task 03: (Written, 3 TPE) If you are in the SMJHL then you have been there for at least a few seasons and its likely that a promotion to the SHL is coming soon. The question is.. are you ready?.. what areas of your game do you believe are SHL ready and what areas are you concerned about? what things are you sad to leave behind and what things are you excited about when moving to your parent club. (Must be 150 words or more) This will be my third season in the SMJHL and I feel ready to be moving up to the SHL. I believe my defensive game will be SHL-average and if tucked on the third defensive pairing, I will be able to hold my own while learning and gaining valuable experience in the big league. Offensively, I may not have as much of a major impact as I did in the SMJHL with the Lethbridge Lions. This will take time for me to learn and adjust as my first priority is to be able to take care of my own end before trying to take any risks offensively. I will leave that to the veterans. What I will be sad to leave behind are my teammates on the Lions. While we did not amount to anything, we had a special bond as an expansion team and underdogs of the league. I will be excited to be moving to a big city like Toronto. Much more play and action on and off the ice. Task 05: (Written, up to 6 TPE) Pick up to 6 challenge cup related topics to write about! Each topic is worth '1' TPE. Each answer must be '50' words or more. 1. Breakdown this finals matchup for us, how will it play out? who will be the stars of this series, what will the outcome be? (*tag anyone involved) I think this will be a series and championship win for WKP. Calgary does not have enough depth and experience in the back end to be able to handle the firepower of WKP. The star of this series will have to be Kata Vilde for Calgary to have a chance to win. 2. A major managerial showdown is about to take place Between WKP's (Jr95, Wongy) and Calgarys (Steelhead77, C00kies) which set of GM's have the tactical/managerial advantage in this series and why? I feel like Calgary's management team are more tactical and experienced. They brought a rebuilding team to the championship final. Unfortunately, considering all factors, their own individual abilities will not be displayed on the ice and the WKP are too good of a team for Calgary to beat right now. 4. Which player do you believe will be the differance maker in their franchise winning the title here in S47? It will be Beaujeaux Biscuit for the WKP. Biscuit has been a wall for WKP and has insane individual stats going into the final here. Only losing three times and having a 0.941 save percentage is incredible considering they faced Buffalo in Round 3. If Biscuit continues to play like they have, Calgary will have little chance of winning. 5. After trading off there best players and declaring themselves in a full rebuild back in S45, The Calgary Dragons have made it to the S47 finals.. just 2 seasons later. Choose: ('No surprise', 'mild surprise', 'major surprise' or 'in shock') and explain why. It is still a major surprise even though Calgary's management staff is top of the league. The league is competitive and to be able to make it to the finals 2 seasons after declaring a rebuild requires a bit of luck and skill. Calgary did pretty good in the regular season and was able to upset their rival Edmonton in the second round. Luck was on their side when they had the fortune of facing another underdog team in the Texas Renegades in round 3. 7. The West Kendall Platoon are back in the finals after a season out of the playoffs and a team that was in serious regression Choose: ('No surprise', 'mild surprise', 'major surprise' or 'in shock') and explain why. It is no surprise that the WKP are back in the finals. Last season was an anomaly and their team was always strong and deep enough to contend for a championship. Winning the presidents trophy was enough of an indicator that they were not regressing and reaching the finals was an obtainable goal for the team. 8. Star netminders Kata Vilde and Beaujeaux Biscuit have both carried there teams into the finals. Which franchise goalie has a better chance to carry their franchise to a title? Beaujeaux Biscuit has the upper hand over Kata Vilde in carrying their team to a title. This is because Biscuit is on the overall better team and will have a much easier time carrying their team with the support they have. Vilde may have the better individual goalie stats but their supporting cast is not as strong. Task 13 - PM SENT ![]() ![]() |
