- The Calgary Dragons will miss the playoffs for just the 3rd time in 15 seasons. The old guard in Calgary has almost entirely moved on to the shadow realm, and the young stars aren’t all quite there yet, so I’m predicting the Dragons to get left behind come playoff time.
- Jason Visser will set a single season point record. I’m not exactly sure which, but Jason Visser looks as dominant as ever in Winnipeg, and something about his preseason plays looks like it will translate to regular season glory.
- Chris Partridge will win the John McBride trophy as the SHL’s best goalie. Expectations were high last season, and despite a rather rough start Partridge still finished the season strong. It was the first time he felt like there were even expectations around the roster, and said nerves got the better of him on many nights early on in the season. With a ton of experience under his belt now, the young goalie looks poised to ascend to the top of the SHL ranks.
- No defenseman will reach the 50 point mark this season. With so many talented defenseman in the league right now it’s hard to imagine this coming true, but based on preseason play it looks like the defense may be spreading the point share around a bit this season.
