Lethbridge Lions
When looking at a team with 12 rookies in the starting lineup and including 2 more in goal, the Lethbridge lions could not ask for much more standings wise coming into a new week of the SMJHL. With all of these rookies come growing pains especially in the net. With a young defense core and young goalies, this team struggles hard with keeping shots off of their new goalie with almost 30 shots against a game, this is almost 7 shots worse that the best team in the league. Making sure the defense are getting to the net to prevent rebounds in going to be one of our biggest challenges moving on into the new part of the season. When looking at the opposite side of things Lethbridge lions have somehow been making it work on the road. Their stats on the road are much better than the are at home which seems to surprise me for a team of rookies. Out of their element they are striving to be the best they can with a goal differential of +7. With a record of 8-3-1 on the road, it is the second best away record in the league to the Kelowna Knights. On the other hand, they also have the worst home record of any team at 2-8-0 with a goal differential of -14. Records aside, the Lethbridge Lions do not have to much to worry about only being 5 points out of third place. With some bigger and smaller improvements shown already, one of the stats that really took my eye was the PP+PK% for this team. With a stat line of 103.54%, they are fourth in the league but only behind first place by 3%. With most of their % coming from the PK at 85.26%, with a few more chances on the PP, this team will be a team to be reckoned with on special teams. |
