The Raiders are sitting 4/10 in the SMJHL off very strong overtime points. We are last in the league with only 6 regular time victories, but have won 4/5 shootouts and have picked up points in 2/3 of our total games played. It may not be pretty, but it's effective now. Come playoff time we will need to find a way to turn those overtime losses into wins, because game points wont mean anything.
Sitting second in Penalty Kill % (84.88%) allows for some more aggressive play and we should aim to take advantage of that by playing a more aggressive style of hockey. We are also second in hits per game, so we have been bringing the punch, but have been keeping it clean. I believe continuing this style of play will benefit us in the long term as other teams get worn down.
We take the second least amount of shots for per game, averaging at 23.83. This is 6 shots per game average behind the current leaders Detroit. This paired with allowing the 3rd most shots against per game with 27.04 mean that the goalies have been playing above average to get us into extra time situations to gain a point, but we need to put some focus here to improve both these categories. This stat is a bit worrisome because it will be very difficult to win games in the post season having these metrics.
The Raiders have a lot of work to do to get in prime shape for playoffs, time to hit the gym!
