S54 WFT #1 - Goal Songs

So we're gonna go with another Disney themed one going over every one of the SMJHL teams.
Anaheim Outlaws ![]() https://youtu.be/3YLmQDN5B5E?t=100 Unfortunately for them there isn't really quite a gritty thing out there. I kinda wanted to go with Ducktales cause it's just so darn catchy and maybe I could make the stretch argument that since it's Anaheim anything goes...But at least there's a bit of that Western vibe to it. A little more of a yodel than a yee haw but I think it's fun one for all the family. Anchorage Armada ![]() Part of it is that I'm personally a big fan of the big band style as it just gets you on your feet and wanting to dance. The other part is just how gosh darn cute this little tug boat is. How could the Armada not want a family friendly mascot that's attractive to their younger fans as well? I'm sure if they could hammer out a deal with Disney about making some team branded merch this could be something big. Hardest part was trying to figure where the 10 second sequence was going to start but I think that keeping it simple was best for this one. Carolina Kraken ![]() https://youtu.be/Gi58pN8W3hY?t=256 For me it was obvious that it was going to be a Little Mermaid reference. Could have gone with the classic "Under the Sea" number, but wanted to go with something darker and a little off the beaten path for the Kraken. I suppose I could have done something with Pirates of the Caribbean and achieved the same kind of goal but again, a little too obvious of a choice. The whole image of a Kraken in my mind is something that's a little bit more sinister and Ursula deserves a little spotlight to be honest. Colorado Raptors ![]() https://youtu.be/QM4dTkkdisg?t=68 If I could edit this one a bit I would. My idea was the percussive lead after the goal horn, brass instruments blasting until the woodwinds wind up and being punctuated by a raptors cry as to represent the fact that the raptors have indeed struck. A little bit of a longer build up and could probably be shortened but the general idea stands. The actual raptors attack scene in 'Dinosaurs' isn't quite as epic as having the instrumental music on its own. Detroit Falcons ![]() https://youtu.be/HdimnI4Xtc0?list=PLsb-E...ERMx&t=105 Likewise, a little artistic license with this would to kind of keep the spirit of the Falcons existing goalhorn while giving them a fresh tune in line with this Disney theme. I'm not gonna lie, this one was a bit of a stretch to find something that could tie into it. Since it's Detroit, I guess 'Cars' was the best thing I could find without dipping into the old 50's cartoons again. Sheryl Crow should be a favorite over there right? Anyways, just as she finishes the chorus of "real gone" for the 3rd or 4th time and instead of the harmonica solo kicking in, this is where the Falcons can have their skree. Kelowna Knights ![]() https://youtu.be/tHoIEli6jn8?list=PL5Nar...-Bot&t=127 This was absolutely the hardest one out of every team. I couldn't quite find a fit that I was completely satisfied with and even was thinking of pigeon holing some popular numbers into this like "Make a Man out of You" or cheating and going into some Pixar stuff. I guess thematically this isn't quite where I would have wanted it, but my idea was for the fans to get into it, treating the enemy team like a beast and rallying together like a group of soldiers ready to face their foe. More often than not anything I can across made the Knights seem evil esque and I'm sure no fan base considers themselves the bad guys by choice. Also it really seemed like any Knight character in Disney stuff was either a completely background filler, good turned evil kind of guys or not really a topic. If it was the Kelowna Princesses then we'd have something else to talk about. Maine Timber ![]() https://youtu.be/MiXyDoBpAIQ?t=61 I gotta say it's hard trying to find something for trees. Especially with the limitations I'm working with. You'd think there'd be more talking trees or something but not from what I could find. Oh well, the lyrics look good enough for fans that cheer for trees. "I think that I shall never see, a poem lovely as a tree!" Newfoundland Berserkers ![]() https://youtu.be/yLUAByRGhyc?list=PL3FF2...37EB&t=124 Surprisingly graphic lyrics and an intense message which at first glance you wouldn't think to find in Disney songs but then again they're not afraid to shy away from some darker stuff usually a bit more subtly. Still, between the whole Scandinavian connection and literally saying that we're going to slaughter you? I think this is an easy fit. My other choice was to go with the Han attacking in Mulan but that was a little more Far Eastern of a feel than I would have liked. The characters seemed to fit the idea of a Berserker though. St. Louis Scarecrows ![]() https://youtu.be/zyhUHJKfR5Y?t=220 I want to say that St. Louis already did this for a goal horn at one point. Maybe it was a quick pre-season game or something but the fit is too perfect to not go with this. Just a fun tune to go along with even if the lyrics aren't exactly complimentary of the team. Vancouver Whalers ![]() https://youtu.be/AkjTGCrLvAU?t=106 The whole Dory speaking whale thing was done already so this time I'm gonna try pushing it a little differently. Another older one but it checks out between fitting the portside Vancouver team, having a little jaunty jig and just being an all around banger. Honestly wouldn't mind the Whalers scoring on my team while we play away just to hear this, that's how much I kinda enjoy this. |
