The difference between what my coaches in Buffalo asked for as opposed to Winnipeg is night and day, to be honest. In Winnipeg, I was complementing a young up and coming Darrow like defender in Adam Barron with defensive defenseman skills. So we trained for that and I ended up last season setting the Jets team record for shots blocked in a game with 12, finishing with 111 overall. This offseason, now back in Buffalo, my coaches asked me to focus less defensive defending and more within an all-round style of play.
Something that utilizes both my passing and speed with the bravery to lay down and block a shot. My coaches drilled into my head this offseason that they feel I shouldn't be typecast as other trophy winners are. For instance, winning the Bojo as I did means I should settle in for a life as a defensive, stay at home defender. They took the time this offseason to ensure that I explored not only that side of my game but other intangibles that will complement Scoop and Darrow and I am looking forward to a season of two way play. |
