This offseason Olli Saarinen worked on just about everything - the transition from SMJHL goalie to a back up in the big leagues is a tough one, and he had a lot of work to do to make sure he was ready to step onto the ice. Thankfully his time in juniors had prepared him well and there were a lot of skills that he'd learned the basics of and just needed a big league coach to help him really see improvement in (yay banked TPE!). His biggest focus was in making sure he'd have the endurance to play at the SHL level, even if he knew he'd be seeing less ice time overall. After that, he did some specific training in all of his various save positions as well as his reflexes and positioning. And lastly, he spent some time talking to Cain, who he'd be backing up, to try and think through the new difficulties of playing in the SHL and make sure he'd be mentally prepared to face them.
